Recruiting for New Weeknight Pathfinder Online Group

As far as Kingmaker goes, it's starting to look iffy on that one for me as well. One player is pushing very hard for the DM to drop everyone who can't post once per day, like me, and many of the other players seem to be actually disappearing. Considering that we've barely started the AP, it's not looking good.

Otherwise I do like the voting idea a lot.

Grand Lodge

I'm struggling somewhat on how to pare down the AP choices to a short list of no more than 4 or 5 to choose from when voting.

I've decided to remove War of the Burning Sky and Slumbering Tsar from consideration. I want to stay with Paizo APs because 1) I can readily find conversions of the older 3.5 APs to PFRPG, and 2) I am more likely to find advice on these boards on how to scale a Paizo AP for 5-6 players than for non-Paizo adventures.

Although I don't want to exclude anyone who has expressed interest in the group, I will probably include a couple of APs that some may have already played through. If one of those were to receive the most votes and be selected, I'll understand if a player then decides to drop out because they don't want to play that AP again. I'm trying to please as large a group as possible but may not be able to accomodate everyone, and frankly, I'd rather have only 4 or 5 instead of 6 players active in an AP.

I would like to point out that according to other parts of this forum Reign of Winter apparently might involve some kind of time travel and Rasputin/World War 1/Modern weaponry is involved.

So just a fyi for "no science in my fantasy" types.

Lol, both of my top choices were removed.

:(

I've always found the boundary between science fiction and fantasy a bit funny. The only difference is that science fiction tries to claim a belated truth or inevitability.

A friend of mine is the same way. He hates psionics because "it's too sci-fi." And he isn't a fan of Star Wars because the Force is "space magic."

He's weird like that.

I remember reading somewhere (couldn't remember where) that a lot of writers do themselves a disservice through the use of genres. That by conforming to one, they tend to close themselves off to others.

Grand Lodge

The votes are in and the winning AP is Second Darkness!

I have emailed character creation instructions.

Please begin working on your PCs.

I decided to go Barbarian. Here he is.

Ganth

He'll be mostly a damage dealer/mage killer. I am open to picking something else however, if we find we're lacking in a department or if there are too many damage dealers.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I decided to be a Dark Tapestry Oracle. I also picked the trait that my friends are dragging me to "Cheat the Devil" tournament, so if you want to drag me there let me know! Also, I built this oracle to be stealth/disguise/smooth-talker, and if we really just need a rogue, I can just make one instead, but let me know what you want.

--------------------
Samara doesn't know where she came from, only where she was found. Supposedly her parents, finding her appearance too hard to bare, dropped her off in the streets of Riddleport to die, swaddled in a thick black cloth.

It is a rare occasion when thieves and scoundrels have more heart than one's parents. They took turns raising her, and teaching her how to be a beggar with 'broken limbs' and, as she grew older, used her to distract pedestrians so that one of her teammates can pick their pockets. She eventually realized the long black cloth she was swaddled in had some sort of magical property that allowed her to stealth better. She spent stolen money to turn it into a cloak for easier use, and named it the cloak of darkness.

However, despite growing up in the underworld of Riddleport, she always was afraid of something. She would hear voices no one else could hear, and would dream of ghosts trying to warn her or communicate with her. When she tried to draw items from bags, it always seem there was an invisible hand in the bag hindering her. Though these signs of poltergeists frightened her, she grew accustomed to them over time. In fact, she learned to control the poltergeist and would have them tip dice in her favor during the gambling nights or when she was surrounded by men with knives she would use the poltergeists to make noises and distract the enemy or even have the ghost 'push' people and use dazzling faerie lights in order to escape into the darkness to hide. It even got to the point she would take the job as a ghost medium just to swindle a couple more coins from people.

Unfortunately her instincts were telling her something was coming. Or maybe it was perhaps her ghosts telling her this? The dark cloud looming in the sky certainly was unnerving, but people in Riddleport seemed to pay it no mind, so why should she? Yet she could not shake the nervous feeling in her gut.

Well her friends were getting antsy for money again, and were in 'need' of her special talents of dice pushing. So, it was time she had to show her usefulness again at the gambling tournament "Cheat the Devil and Take his Gold".

Heh, no worries. :)

Your characters are looking good!

I've created a PC Roster spreadsheet here.

I still need characters from Gorbag and King_Of_The_Crossroads.

sunderedhero emailed me that he is out of the group.

Learned something cool today. You can change what type of favored class bonus you get every level. Tomorrow I'll go over my sheet and add in the backstory as well as fix some mechanical problems I think I made.

Dark Archive

ok np. Flag me as possible sub if anyone drops. Good luck.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay with my character; work has been unexpectedly hectic and I've just now got a breather. I'll be posting a character fairly soon (as soon as I figure out what to play) :)

If you are up for suggestions, we probably need a blaster. I think Gnome Flame Oracle is a good blaster due to their bonuses with fire with pyromaniac. A Sorcerer or wizard might be good too. But don't let me persuade you into anything. Its up to you. ^_^;

Finished Ganth and added his backstory.

For those of you who don't want to find the link.

Ganth:
Ganth was once a favored son of the Sklar-Quah. While he lacked the skill to become a burn rider, he proved himself to be both strong and honorable as he grew. By the time Ganth took his burn run, everyone, most of all him, was certain it was the start of an auspicious destiny. He managed to make a fine showing of himself, but an ember storm interrupted his trial.

Buffeted by the burning winds, Ganth did his best to survive. A day later he crawled back to his people, blackened and fire scarred from his ordeal. While he healed, he gained the name Walks-the-Cinder and was named a full member of the tribe. Despite his success there were grumblings among some members of the tribe who saw the ember storm as a portent from the spirits and one that Ganth had brazenly ignored.

To them the ember storm was meant to ferry him away to the service of the spirits. By coming back Ganth was inviting their wrath upon the quah. Other questioned whether he was even alive at all anymore, thinking his burns too sever for anyone to survive. By the time Ganth had recovered most of the tribe now shunned him.

Unwilling to be driven out by his brethren, Ganth chose to leave and took an aimless path through Varisia. At first he struggled with a lifetime of ingrained prejudices as he took the path that led to Riddleport. These were conquered, however, as he made acquaintances with others who deserved his company and friendship. He also picked up a regrettable love of gambling. With the Golden Goblin’s call for a tournament going out, Ganth hopes to make enough to live without having to resort to the degrading guard work he’s been forced to do to get by.

By the way, not entirely sure if this applies outside of PFS, but was anyone aware of this?

That's always been the rule I've flow by. It's a nice bonus since sometimes it comes up and seems silly when your Tian rogue doesn't know his own language.

Blasting seems about right; not my usual cup of tea, but it would be an interesting change of pace. I'm not so sure about the flame oracle, though; the idea of focusing all my blasting on the most commonly resisted element leaves me nervous.

Well is there a class you've really wanted to try? I can choose another and get him together in no time, now that I'm on my days off, if you prefer a more melee based character.

So far I've received emailed character sheets from Ataraxias, Langsford, Lunneil, and zerceses.

I'm still waiting to receive emailed character sheets from Gorbag and King_Of_The_Crossroads, which are due by 6:00 PM CST on Monday, 2/4, if they still want in the game.

And then I showed up to steal the spot of someone who doesn't submit their sheet on time.

My character will be in by monday morning at the latest. Again, sorry for the delay; work has been weird. And lengthy.

Grand Lodge

I received King's character sheet yesterday.

The game is now full with five players. I will not be seeking a 6th player nor alternates at this time.

I've updated the player roster here.

So, after an automatic update, my skype cannot connect. When I try to sign in to d20pro, it says that I'm not using the right version or some such. I'm using 3.3.4.

What version are we using?

Looks like we're on 3.2.0

Grand Lodge

I think we need to upgrade to the new 3.3.4 version and see if that enables the handouts to work.

I will install 3.3.4 before next week's session.

Is this still an open recruitment?

No, the game is now full with five players.

I realized something last night. We never sold Angvar's spellbook. I don't think any of us could use it, so it would help out in the pocket change area.

Dark Archive

I am looking for a weeknight campaign, preferably Wednesdays or Thursdays. I can begin at four in California (6 central). I am a very experienced tabletop player, playing since the early eighties. I have been playing pathfinder since it's inception. I am new to d20pro, but I've downloaded the client and I am eager to try it.

I am currently running Runelords and playing Emerald Spire and various PFS scenarios. I have played or run Carrion Crown, Kingmaker, Council of Thieves, Dragon's Demand, and a few other modules. Most of my characters tend towards a gish archetype, with some blend of martial and magical focus. That said, I have and will play everything except a paladin. I am not LG.

I am a 39 year old male, if that matters.

Best,
Clayton
