Angus Sadly, no dice on this again. They're out of town GenCon weekend. I would wager they are out of town every GenCon weekend. They've been in town a couple of times. They were in town a couple of years ago - I almost went to the game but was then convinced to stay and play in the kobolds special. I didn't realize that my wanting to go to the game was creating a bit of a stir behind the scenes because I didn't know I was going to be awarded a campaign coin that night. I heard after the fact that there was some relief when I decided to play.

BigNorseWolf wrote: Buying HQ an extra box of paperclips if i ever get to do this again... LOL! Don't worry about it! I brought a package of 1000 paperclips with me this year that I left with HQ and they didn't need to dip into them. I'll still probably bring more next year. I will never again run out of paperclips putting together the chronicle packages for GenCon.
And a big thank you to everyone who helped put Slot 1 chronicles together after I was delayed 7.5 hours by a blown tire while driving in on Wednesday!

What?!? I don't see this as a good thing at all! We just lost a good Venture Captain in Ontario, and she's left me with just Glen as a VC. This isn't good at all!
Well, I guess what is best for the larger community is better than what is best for me.
Congratulations, Tonya!

Michael Brock wrote: As I'm biased towards the U.S., I'm drafting all of Canada to join us since we are your closest neighbors :-)
For the poor folks in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, you are going to have to hinge your hopes on England. Good luck with that ;-)
Darn North American bias! Here I was expecting to be able to hold out for the best offer as an undrafted free agent.
And as your northern neighbour (note proper English spelling) is a member of the Commonwealth we should also be able to pin our hopes to England.
But no, you insist on us remaining your hat.
Nice way to fit the World Cup into PFS, and I guess I'll have to cheer for the U.S. Sigh.
BTW, is there room for a Johnny Soccer? Since the Padres drafted him he must be able to play any sport. Just let him please have success in football. ;)

BigDTBone wrote: Do you have any suggestions about telling 11 year olds that spent their allowance on pathfinder stuff that what they bought may not work right and the only way to know is read every single other book (that she doesn't own) cover to cover to make sure there isn't a contradictory entry? That would be some super helpful advice for you to give. I point out that over 99% of the book is accurate, and there are some little things that might have slipped through that we have to change, but it doesn't make the book bad. Tell the kid that mistakes happen, and we just have to change them when we find them. Point out other good options, and that the book she bought is still one of the best books out there in the game. Make her feel good about the purchase instead of feeling bad about it because of one thing that was missed when reprinting it due to the rush in reprinting.
Now, looking at that argument (and yes, I read the thread about the 11 year old), and seeing how a lot of people have played rules wrong over the years even when they were written properly, and then those people have to change when they are told the correct rules, well I'm willing to give the writers, developers and editors a break when they miss something. Players miss enough.

If Mike Brock had his way, I'm sure that it would be "The Year that the Falcons Win the Super Bowl", and that it would be that way every year.

I've spent a GenCon rooming with an awesome PFS writer...and I've also spent a GenCon rooming with Thursty! Now on to what he wrote above:
Thursty wrote: ...it was a cold Canadian Monday when my local venture-officers told me to stop by the local game shop... So that could have been any Monday of the year in Winterpeg. So, did you get to soak in any tears that night?
Quote: ...sharing drinks and conversations with people like Liz Courts, Jason Bulmahn, Tim Hitchcock, Mark Moreland, and many more. All good people, but us Canadians really have to work and get Jason to put out those Canadian pdf versions of all the books with the proper spelling of armour, colour, etc. And hey, you named the other PFS writer that I've roomed with: Hi Tim!
Quote: ...I've made friends from across the world, and I like to consider this community more than just a game. It's a group of great people, and it's my pleasure to interact with them. Agreed, and I'm glad that I've had the chance to meet and have a drink with you, even though you are from Winnipeg.
Congratulations on your spotlight this month, keep up the good writing, and look forward to seeing you again at GenCon!

Chris Mortika wrote: There are different sorts of GM incentives. The campaign began with none. Then half credit, then full credit, but only gold, XP, and Fame. Now boons as well. I'm not going to go back and look through all the old threads after each of these changes were made, but my memory is that in pretty much each case (and you can add the not having to eat a scenario as another benefit GMs have received) the GMs that posted said that they were really happy with the changes and that they wouldn't need anything else.
What will people want after getting generic chronicles for replaying events?

Okay, I've just read through the entire thread, and one thing that I saw mentioned quite a few times was that people were willing to play down and take a hit because they knew they could play up on another occasion to make up for it.
Well, if we're trying to stop characters that are always playing up, why not bring in a limit on how often characters can play up (I did see this mentioned in one post but I'm going to add something), and then allow every time they play down to buy off a time that they played up.
What I would suggest is that players can never be more than +/- 1 from playing their own subtier. If a player plays a character up on one scenario, it is noted on his character sheet, and he can't play that character up again until he has played down, and has it noted on that chronicle. If you make it really visible on the chronicles, it should be really easy for a GM to flip through them to see if the character is able to play up/down or not.
You could keep the monetary benefit for having played up, as long as you take the monetary hit for playing down. At most a character could be one up on his expected wealth. (Yes, I suppose they could try to game it by trying to play up at break points where they might get higher amounts, but it shouldn't allow a character to get too far ahead.)
This would allow for someone to be able to adapt to a game day having an occasion where people can't fill the same level ranges, but not have that occasion happen all the time.

Cosmo wrote: Jason Bulmahn wrote: Yeah there was a little game by folks at the show that year, to claim credit for the book I wrote...
There ya go taking credit for my book again... Oh, Cosmo, don't you want Jason to take credit for all the spelling mistakes riddled throughout your book?
It was fun to see the look on Jason's face as he was showing off the new Core Rulebook to PFS GMs on the Wednesday night of GenCon, only to hear Neil Shackleton say that it was great except for the spelling mistakes that were repeated throughout the book... He asked what and was given the spelling of 'armour' as an example. I quickly added that 'colour' was incorrect as well, and that started the ball rolling.
The whole thing ended with us asking if he would be coming out with a corrected version of the Core Rulebook. We understood that it probably wouldn't be feasible to reprint the book, but we figured they could do a pdf with the proper spelling...
Needless to say, Jason has continued to be stubborn about the whole thing!
