Do they just go back to being normal animals?

In terms of the official artwork I mean? I think blue dragons look way prettier. I always found the DND version kind of ugly TBH.

Would a half-drow be treated as its own ancestry? Or would they just use half-elf stats and look different?

Like the troglodytes are called Xulgaths now. I'm guessing it's so the name can be copyrighted, as "troglodyte" is a pre-existing word found in the dictionary, so you can't copyright it.

If the giant is only like 12 feet tall I could see stabbing it in the femoral artery or something, but what about, say, Mogaru? A human would only come up to like his ankle joint. How could hitting him there kill him?

Since it's 2e I thought I would start a thread about this. I decided to make stats for Carrie White (from the movie Carrie). Feel free to comment or post your own stats for other horror characters

I've never been sure if this is a deliberate pun, or just a coincidince.

The nightwave. It's a shark that's the size of a blue whale, is super smart (22 int), and can fly as well. Also the whisperer from Bestiary 6. That thing is scary as hell.

Can you make the technological item without Fabricate? Fabricate only allows you to create an item you can already create without the spell. There are other restrictions like having the proper raw material and not being able to create magic items. So, if the item requires a skill, you cannot use untrained Fabricate will not work.

I'm well aware of this. I mean if you have the right feats and a high enough skill (what skill is used to make technological items, anyway?) The main benefit of Fabricate is it doesn't take weeks or months to make the item.

Well you normally need a forge to make metal weapons/armor, correct? Yet the spell allows you to make them without that.

It says you can't make magic items, but doesn't say anything about technological, so I would guess you can if you have all the raw materials.

Paizo's take on the Succubus/incubus really makes me uncomfortable. All enchantment magic kind of fits the bill but I hate monsters where the GM tells me as a player how I am supposed to feel about that creature.

OH yes. I forgot to mention that anything with mind control freaks me out. I find enchantment to be by far the most morally sketchy of the magic schools (even more than necromancy.)

when you say change a feat, do you mean replace it with another, or change how it works?

(English is not my main language and this seem to me to go ether way).

replace one feat with another that you have the requirements seem, as mentioned, sound ok if not a waste of a wish.

change how the feat works would depend on how it changes the feat.

I mean replace with another.

E-V-I-L (sorry, couldn't resist)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would say so, though I can't for the life of me think of how you would actually word the wish without using metagame concepts. Any ideas?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

For anyone unfamiliar with the term, it means a language that's no longer spoken by any country (such as Latin and Sanskrit in real life), and is mostly only known by linguists and scholars. Are there any languages like this in Golarion? And, if so, why did they die out?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Since someone mentioned Starfinder, I was thinking a lich there could use the black box from a spaceship as it's soul cage. I would guess they would have a lot more hp and hardness than usual, considering how tough they are in real life. Plus, I assume a black box from a futuristic space ship would be a lot more advanced than one from a modern-day airplane

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Since you usually don't track the dying condition for monsters/npcs and just have them die at 0 hp, I'm a little confused as to how it would work. Should you just track dying in the case of monsters that have it?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What if the whole reason diamonds are valuable on Golarion is precisely BECAUSE they seem to be the (almost) universal spell component?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I know it's finite, but it doesn't seem to say anywhere how big it is.I would guess only as big as Australia or no.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would say so, as even a level 20 caster can only cast it once (or at most twice) a day.

Phylactery was phased out because of the antisemitic origin of the name; chiefly the fact that you're giving a stated to be supremely evil caster's soul holding box the same name and physical description as an item important to jewish religion.

Point of order, the lich's version of the item has basically never (or only coincidentally) resembled the Jewish phylactery in physical description. Edit: I went back to this, and the default "description" is a bit similar, but I've never seen it represented in a story as a metal box with writing. Everyone always jazzes it up. And the implication is that every one was unique, so giving a default description was a bad idea anyways. End edit.

And honestly until this issue came up, I hadn't heard of the items being referred to as phylacteries, I was familiar with the term tefillin. I'm not going to argue that it was a bad idea to change from phylactery though. I identify as Jew-adjacent (I started conversion and never technically finished) but not having grown up with background I am not the best representation of what is or isn't an....unpleasant experience or association...for other Jewish people.

At the same time, I do think that a majority of people had no idea that it could even be considered offensive, and after decades in the popular milieu it is hard for people to change terms. So I think any sort of judgement towards people for still using the word is perhaps...unwarranted.

That said, I think the Black Raven's statement was an attempt at a neutral reminder, though I can see where it can be read a bit preachy. And Leon's response feels a lot like "You can pry it from my cold dead hands".

Ultimately I think we should all think about why we might be inclined to do certain things, especially when those things might hurt other people. Do you want to intentionally hurt people? I'm going to presume no. So while it might be hard, I would plead with you to try to change...

Maybe a dumb question, but can't you just change the name of it in your game if you don't like it (or request that the DM calls it something else)? Techincally, you can change the name of anything in the game if you want.

Perhaps a solid adamantine cube placed in a demiplane kept as a vacuum?

I think this is my favorite. Especially since the lich doesn't need to breathe, while most of its enemies presumably do. That said, putting some planar tuning forks in the place would be a good idea, for obvious reasons.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Even though they are described as metal boxes, I usually imagine them looking like black heart-shaped gems with a light (the lich's soul) inside. Since it can be any small object (I think) I was thinking a lich might use something worthless (like a rat dropping) as one, as people would never suspect it unless they happened to cast detect magic (and who would think to do that on a rat turd to begin with?)

Thought of a few more:
LG: Knuckles The Echidna and Blaze The Cat (from Sonic)
LE: Darkseid, Margaret White (from Carrie), Handsome Jack
CE: Simon Phoenix, Freddy Kreuger.

Any level 3 cleric can cure deafness, so it doesn't seem like there would be any need for them. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention.

They outright hate all the gods, and, even considering the non-interference rules the gods have, I'd think they'd ALL be against a country that bans religion. Even if the good gods are too nice to do anything, I'm pretty sure the neutral and evil gods would wreck the place.

Well, someone mentioned Unfetter, which lets them get farther away. The summoner could also use Extend Spell if it's too short for their taste.

Abomination Vaults seems like the most likely to actually get turned into one, but I think it would be somewhat of a boring choice. While it's a great dungeon, people want a lot more out of their CRPGs than a single dungeon.

It worked for the original Diablo.

Agents seems impossible to do as a video game, since in a TTRPG context a GM can create the illusion of "huge, bustling city" by improvising when called for, but when you have to actually put the whole thing on the screen you're asking for a lot if you want Absalom to feel like Absalom ought to.

Like the thing about software is that nothing that the developers didn't think about in advance makes it into the game, so there's a reason a lot of video games take place on a frontier, in a wasteland, etc.

The A1 #1 with a bullet Pathfinder AP I'd like to see adapted to be a video game is Strange Aeons.

What if they made most of the city an overland map (similar to the one in Kingmaker), and only had the important areas actually be in the game?

I noticed Achol is still LG despite being a broken soul. That being the case, has anyone tried to reason with him? Or even fix him some how (maybe with limited wish?)

What are some good alignment examples? Some I think are

LG:
Superman, Princess Leia, Robocop (though he usually starts out as LN), Professor Xavier

NG:
Spiderman, Luke Skywalker, Harry Potter, Mario Bros

CG:
Sonic The Hedgehog, The Doctor (Doctor Who), Han Solo (Though he starts as CN)

LN:
Spock, Data, Emma Frost, The Punisher (bordering on LE)

N: Lara Croft Locke (from Lost) Galactus (yes, he eats planets, but doesn't have a choice) ,The Living Tribunal

CN: Shadow The Hedgehog, Most of the "good guys" in the Borderlands games, Harley Quinn (some versions are CE, but still more about the C than the E.)

LE: Doctor Doom, The Party (from 1984), Magneto (usually), Claude Frollo

NE: Palpatine, Thanos, Dr Eggman, Bowser

CE: The Joker, Sabertooth (from X-men) Xenia from Goldeneye.

I pick Agents Of Edgewatch, mainly because it's so different than the others. It almost seems more like a crime drama or spy thriller than a standard fantasy story.

Relatedly, I once described the sounds of druidic in a home game. What I described has lots of "natural" sounding and breathy fricatives (think 'f' and 'sh' sounds) that sound like actual sounds from nature. So, someone speaking druidic would almost sound like they're making the sounds of flowing water or shaking leaves and so on. The idea behind that is that speakers could safely speak druidic out in nature and anyone hearing the speech would have trouble distinguishing the sounds of speaking from the rest of the natural soundscape.

It's a fun exercise to think about these sounds!

That's brilliant, actually!

Here would be my guesses:

Common: English (or whatever the group's native language is)
Undercommon: Old English
Elven: French
Dwarven: Either German or Russian
Draconic: Latin
Giant: Either Swedish or Norweigian
Celestial: Hebrew
Sylvan: Gaelic
Aklo: Probably unlike any real language, or maybe like some conlang like Ithkuil.
Druidic: Again, probably unlike any real language.

It seems like it would be really useful for caster NPCs especially, as most DMs probably haven't memorized what all the spells do.

Does it say the actual name of the Conqueror Worm who is the Big Bad? As far as I can tell, no, which seems really odd. Do conqueror worms just not have personal names?

Do melee weapons use up a charge each time you hit something? If so, I would houserule that they don't use charges and just have a battery that lasts a certain amount of time (say, 12 hours), as chainsaws in real life can run for up to 2000 hours before running out of gas, and don't just automatically run out after you cut down 10 trees or whatever, so it's hard to believe an advanced, futuristic melee weapon would run out faster.

I've always liked the hobgoblins (even before I started Pathfinder and just played DND). They remind me of the Spartans, i.e very warlike and disciplined, and tend to live in city-states.

I was thinking about listing Hannibal Lecter but figured he would just be an expert, which is kind of boring. I like the rogue version a lot better. Also, Can anyone do stats for Carrie? She's my favorite.

I’m very fond of Arazni, who is NE but allows CG followers, and whose edicts aren’t all that cruel. She’s a patron to survivors of abuse and the unwillingly undead, and while her focus on never forgiving isn’t exactly warm and fuzzy, you could do a lot worse than her in the Evil zone.

She’s one of the most interesting deities in the setting, IMO.

I feel the same way. I suspect the "allowing CG followers" bit is hinting at her eventually turning neutral or even good, as she was originally a paladin, so her going back to her old ways makes sense to me.
