I intend to be the resident ranger of Forgeholm but as my stubby legs take awhile it'll be awhile till I head that way. But head somewhere I will have to as no Player rogue trainers are anywhere nearby. >.> Phaeros will be Wizard/Rogue for the near future, so you're welcome to camp out with us on your trips down south to train. After we can start building our own buildings, Phaeros will become a university settlement, offering as much training as possible.

We do love our buttered scones ;) We're also very casual friendly, light hearted, and we're here to have fun. There will never be a requirement to show up for anything - our hope is that you will play because you want to play, not because you're required to for any reason. Along with others from The Seventh Veil, we've been working on escalations in our area south of Phaeros, and it's been a ton of fun. Last night I logged in for a bit to join one such group and we managed to fight the escalation from 100% down to 95% with some effort before I had to log off. Come help us keep our forest healthy and clear of encroaching fiends!

The forums on Goblinworks.com (currently referred to as the Alpha Forums) are pretty much exactly what you described that you wanted. There are sub-forums for everything from crafting to different class roles to technical questions and bug reports. My understanding is that those forums will eventually be the permanent default forums for Pathfinder Online. Also, don't ever be afraid to ask questions. Especially now - lots of in-game information is not yet in the game, and even veterans have to search on the forums or other external resources for information from time to time. A few weeks ago there weren't even tooltips in the game for feats, so it's coming along.
I'd also like to see some cases in which a shortsword and dagger is superior to a greatsword, and I haven't seen such a case yet. Perhaps once grapple effects are implemented we will see more reason to use small weapons in the offhand, or in the secondary slot. Being able to cut yourself out of grapple-like root spells would be much better than sitting there with your greatsword making faces at your enemy until the root effect wears off.

I had a similar problem, and the fix didn't work but did put me on the right track. I tried the steps listed above but when I had no success, here's what I did to get it working again: - Uninstalled Pathfinder Online
Just like you, I'm not sure why it renames the file and then appears to not use the new one correctly. I also don't understand why your instructions worked for Dan but I had to do a completely clean reinstall and essentially force my way through a crash to get it to work.

The Echo Woodsmen are casual friendly! A game is meant to be fun, and not a second job. Even if you only log in once a week or less, there will be no problem with you being a member of our family. Many of us have families and other commitments outside of the game, and we understand. We're also ok with alts or secondary characters joining the Echo Woodsmen, as long as the situation isn't abused. Many of us are tabletop roleplayers in more than one game at a time, so we understand that keeping characters separate is something that can be done.
Exciting times! With the announcement of a Mac client on Day 1 of EE, a couple of our guys are now super elated. Also the additional few days in exchange for the entire map on Day 1 will affect us because we're in the area that would not otherwise have been available immediately. We've secured a Smallholding and have come to a decision on where to place it when we get it. We're on track to be one of the premier PvE groups within the Seventh Veil, with our future home hex being located in proximity to more than one potential PvE rewarding hex. That doesn't mean we won't participate in PvP and other aspects of the game; in fact we have some members who are aiming for PvP to be at the center of their character concepts. Note that you can delay the start of your prepaid training time until whenever you feel the features are in that need to be in for you to have fun. In many cases the option of self-delay may not be desirable, but in some cases it might be the best option. If you know you aren't going to have fun without feature X, wait until feature X is implemented before starting your character. After a few months the couple of weeks difference in XP won't seem like that big of a thing.
This sounds slightly similar to the system that various MUDs based on the GodWars code base use. Almost all are free to play and fun, but text only. If you like that kind of system it's worthwhile to check it out, and make sure you choose Mage as your class, of course. As far as Pathfinder Online, I like the idea behind it but it would take a lot of balancing that might cause the development investment vs gain to not be worth it. It would be interesting to see what the devs think about it though.
A few of the guys from The Echo Woodsmen will be at DragonCon this year, though sadly my wife and I won't be able to make it. They'll be part of the crew of the HMA Borealis and will be dressed up in appropriate Steampunk garb. If you come across them, I'm sure a few will be up for any talk of PFO. :)
Have you ever wanted to be a hunter but you love the forest and those that live within too much? Are you a vegetarian because you hate animal cruelty and love cute little furry things? Why not just restrict free accounts to only be members of NPC settlements? You can experience quite a lot of the game from that perspective, and those people will see that by subscribing there will be a lot more they can experience. Only allow them to get to a certain point in training, perhaps 1 week of exp gain (which I think is currently 16,800 exp). NPC settlements will allow them to use that exp for Tier 1 stuff and maybe some Tier 2 as well, but with only a week's worth of exp I doubt they would even get to that point. Character names would still be a problem, but you could wipe the characters if they haven't added game time after a couple of months or something. That is, if the point is to allow people to play for free just to try the game. If the point is rather to allow people to play for free to increase population then you could do everything mentioned above except wiping the characters.

Also, you should come visit us south of Phaeros, we've got some amazing wild high-bush blueberry shrubs that we've been cultivating. Ye woodsie men probably get some good green whilst ye out there, no? Methinks ye do, yup, me do. Fancy selling some to a poor old fishwife? Calms me nerves down it does! These are troubled time 'lil laddies. The forest provides many different things to those that are friendly to the natural environs around them. Several of those things are green. I expect that a few of the things we've been able to accept from the forest would suit your needs.
I would caution everyone not to expect Early Enrollment to begin right after the Land Rush. There's probably still a fair bit of waiting to be done, but hang in there! When it comes, we'll be ready! the only reason I haven't done any TS is because I lack a usable mic xD There are a couple of others who regularly visit without the ability to speak. There's a built-in chat that we can utilize in those cases, and if you can at least hear people talking then you'll be able to participate in whatever discussion is going on via that medium. I shall have to submit my bona fides for membership. A well-tended forest is a healthy forest. Indeed. Whether there is an in-game mechanic for sustainable harvesting or not, we plan to roleplay as those who tend to the forest and accept what it provides. The company is Audacity, and the settlement is Dagedai. Currently they are positioned in the south west corner of the map, near the main road and one of the starting NPC settlements. A prime location for anyone wanting to be in an accessible location while still being able to get away from the bustle of the NPC cities.
The Land Rush has only a couple of weeks left. We're pretty excited to get to the next phase of Pathfinder Online. Alpha seems to be going well and several of the addons have been addressed such as the Hell Knights and the Geography ones. Even considering that we want Alpha to last as long as it needs to, we're hoping that Early Enrollment isn't too far off. *Dryads not included.
Awesome. I expect that we'll actually become very strong allies and even possibly great friends. It even factored into our decision for which tower hex to go for, actually. Feel free to hop on The Seventh Veil's TeamSpeak (the same one used for many Alpha gatherings) and hang out with us!
Reddit just created a sub-reddit for PFO recruitment, as the only things getting posted were recruitment threads. They were hogging up the whole thing. IT was mostly us known Paizo posters hogging it up too. The Echo Woodsmen, EoX, and Forgeholm were the only groups who submitted recruitment threads before PFORecruitment was formed. There were several other messages interspersed, so they were hardly "the only things getting posted." There were also posts with questions that Ryan Dancey actually chimed in and answered, along with links to live streams, Gobbocasts, and several recent blogs. One of the most exciting things about being a member of Phaeros in terms of game mechanics is the idea that I'll be able to train anything I want at my home settlement and will not be boxed into a specific role or couple of roles. As a result, companies who are sponsored by Phaeros or our nearby allies need not have their members worry about being forced to play something they might not want to just so that they will be able to play with their friends. If your group is diverse in desired roles or play styles, Phaeros is one of the few places that will be able to offer you a place to live where everyone can play what they want and how they want. The True Neutral alignment only adds to that - we will be able to support 5 alignments, as many or more than any other settlement.
Now is the best time to get involved. There are already several really great looking and diverse groups forming within the Seventh Veil and all sponsored by Phaeros. The Echo Woodsmen, The Grey Guard, Frozen Fingers, and a few other groups that haven't made formal announcements yet (including a mining group and an all-gnome group, among others). If you have your own group you can maintain autonomy and join Phaeros, or The Seventh Veil, and become part of this fantastic community.
