Working on a player resources, news, guides, databases -

Just a little shout out, mostly to help new players coming in for the Alpha Stress test and Early Enrollment - I'm working on a sort of hub website for the game that is going to have news, guides, and filterable/searchable databases of items, skills, recipes in game. I hope it will be helpful for people just starting out.

www.pathfinderonlinehq.com

So far have all skills (not feats) with experience progression and filtering, and most of the crafting items in. Will be working on adding providing additional context on what recipes open up at which skill levels, or what crafting items are used to make other things like equipment.

Wow, this is great. Super easy navigation, lots of info in a useful format, thanks a lot. Another Favorite on my desktop!

No problem, glad it is helpful! I'm going to be putting a ton of work into it to add more context and information. So keep checking back.

Cool. Thanks for your work! Do you mind adding in links to the PFO Wiki and whatever other resources are out there?

Do you mind also giving me credit for my work, Doc? I put a shit ton of hours into making those tables.

Your currently 'stolen' work:
http://www.pathfinderonlinehq.com/crafting-skill-progression

My work:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1V36eTEk5XcCruh0u_BqkCXVBhAMH13IR3Ii k-K76VZk/edit#gid=1447672629

The tables are the same down to the columns and the caveats at the bottom. I don't mind you using it. But it needs to say at the very top of each table you use from me: "Tables by Sspitfire of Blackfeather's Keep"

I definitely will provide credit. Putting that up there now. Apologies, hard for me to tell what is just output by GW. I'll add more annotations.

Mainly just trying to put things in a easy to consume format.

Spitfire, please review the attribution here: http://www.pathfinderonlinehq.com/crafting-skill-progression - I'll apply that to all the other pages that use your research. Again, sorry about that!

Thank you! We're square now. You could actually take the link off of my name, though, or just link to the original tables (which isn't necessary).

Unless it is the "Raw from the Dev's" file on Nihimon's Google Drive, assume someone in the community has done something to bring that information into that particular format. Most of us also have our names somewhere on the work in someway.

And I appreciate the fact that having my tables up on your sight will make them more visible and, for some, more accessible. Their being useful to newbs and old-timers alike is the whole reason I did them :)

Actually, we can do even better.

If you're keen, I can make that attribution spot on those pages into a nice eye-grabbing space providing attribution to your work, but also plugging Blackfeather's Keep with a preferred logo/banner, and a brief blurb about the company/settlement and what you guys are all about. Can link to a website if you have one, etc. Could be a nice way to recruit.

Let me know, feel free to email or send PM. I'd like to make it really nice for you/your group as thanks for all your contributions to the community.

Very nice, Doc. I will likely use this quite a bit when I don't feel like tabbing through spreadsheets.

Are you planning to add pages that can filter equipment and feats by keywords?

"Are you planning to add pages that can filter equipment and feats by keywords?"

Definitely.

The framework I'm using works very well with hierarchical taxonomies like this.

Thank you for the offer. I think that would be a bit much. You could throw this link in, however, for Blackfeater Keep

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2r6n4?Settlement-Blackfeather-Keep#1

The only reason I include Blackfeather Keep with my work is to let folks know that we are there and we are among "the good guys." Otherwise, right now we are a small settlement- only about 20 residents.

Ok, will do.

When viewing on my android phone, the skill/feat tables are all scrunched up and unreadable. Other than that, the mobile format is good.

Responsive tables are tough, I'm looking into a better form for those. Thank you for mentioning it though, totally right.

Actually, sitting back and looking at it, this was way stronger than it needed to be. Sorry about that, Doc.

I think this is a good sign it is time for me to take a little break from the forums. I'm getting a bit too touchy and reactive. I'll be back in time for EE and the newby question onslaught :)

@Sspitfire

No worries, I should have looked more closely for attribution. Anyone can tell you put a lot of effort into getting all of that data put together, so your reaction was perfectly understandable.

@Uthreth - I've redone some of the responsive calls, and so lower priority columns will be dropped off the skill/item database display tables at phone screen size. Hope that helps.

A few minor notes: You appear to have missed Adhesive chemicals (you could easily not be there yet, just want to make sure you are aware of the category)

Also if you could filter the Skills Database based on the ability they raise that would be quite useful as people reach the point that they need 11-20 in an ability to increase their skills.

@Keign

Added Adhesive to Chemical Extract Type taxonomy, thanks.

As far as the skills and abilities - some skills will have ability requirements, right? And some skills raise ability scores, correct as well?

Are they always the same ability for the particular skill? Can you give me an example? Thanks!

<minor edit>

Goblin Squad Member

In the case of skills, they are always related to a single ability. This ability is both increased by these skills and also serves as a requirement for them.

For example:
Lightning Reflexes increases your Dexterity by .099 when you increase it to rank 2.
In order to get rank 3 of Lightning Reflexes, you must have a Dexterity of 13. (And you will gain .167 from this upgrade.)

The rate of increase in the abilities is dependent on the type of skill it is - Crafting skills, for example, increase abilities at a higher rate than most other skills.

Ok, gotcha. I already have the Ability types related to the appropriate skills, I've added the filter on ability type as well.

Let me know if that helps -> http://www.pathfinderonlinehq.com/skill-database -- thanks!

That's lovely. Accomplishes (most of) the goal of a spreadsheet I made when we were still in Alpha 7 (before they changed a lot on me and rendered most of it moot.)

Goblin Squad Member

I'm still having the same problem with browsing on an android mobile device. Specifically, this page: http://www.pathfinderonlinehq.com/gathering-skill-progression

@Uthreth

Ah, yes. Those are really complicated and lengthy tables. At some point I may have to just create a separate version of it (and link to it) with just minimum columns that are the most useful/desired.

Out of all of those columns, which ones would you most like to be able to look up on your mobile device?

Goblin Squad Member

I wonder if a simple overflow:auto would help correct the issue. Feel free to PM me or I'll probably be on T7V's TeamSpeak later (maybe 4 hours from now) if you want to troubleshoot.

The skill filters appear to be working great but the item filters do not work.

The item database has been fully loaded in, so that may be what you're experiencing.
