The hours of operation (Pacific time) for the Alpha Server will be:
Thursday: 3pm - (no close)
Monday: (already open) - 6am
These are the release notes for the updated Client:Art:
Updates to world lighting
Fixes to many building placements, props, terrain issues, and collision
Fixes to a number of visual glitches with player clothing
Multiple animation fixes including Ogre death and player death while using longsword
Skeletons now display the correct texturesCharacter Creation:
Characters start with 1,000XP
Loot:
Spoils system removed
Added coin to loot tablesFeats:
Activated several Utility feats
Temporarily changed feats with the Charge effect to have an appropriate range to be able to charge (this is a temporary fix in lieu of a more robust mechanic involving charge which is in development)
Added some Utility feats to trainersNPCs:
Increased most NPC move speeds by 20%. Kiting will now be harder.
Tweaked some NPC melee attacks to allow them to strike moving characters
Gave Thornguards a ranged knockdown attack to initiate combat (try to run away now you filthy murderers!)
Removed Thornguards from the respawn points in town (ok, you get a tiny head start.)Death:
Added Pharasma Shrines in many locations throughout the region
Gathering:
Changed resource ratings to alter the distribution of various resources (should be easier to find what you want once you figure out where it spawns)
Gathering can now be interrupted by movement or combatEscalations:
Adjusted the rate at which Bonedancers, Broken Men and Razmiran Cultists spread to new hexes
Hexes no longer act infected (spawn related events and encounters) during initial stages of invasion. However, there is a known bug where the infection icon still shows up next to the mini-map and shows infection data for that hex even though the hex is just building up to an infected state.Known Issues:
NPCs and monsters drop all items on their loot tables at a 100% chance rather than the intended ratios.

Aww, now what am I supposed to do when I get bored? Though I am glad to see that my murderhobo'ing was for a good cause.
Is persistence in yet? Are we still resetting back down when we relog? Cause I wanna get into the crafting system, and that is kinda hard when I can't logout, even with the 1000 xp :p

Aww, now what am I supposed to do when I get bored?
Is persistence in yet? Are we still resetting back down when we relog? Cause I wanna get into the crafting system, and that is kinda hard when I can't logout, even with the 1000 xp :p
Persistence seemed to be somewhat reliable on Friday last week, but sometimes logging out would cause you to lose all items/armor/weapons. It was unfortunate, because as a rogue, I was not able to do anything at all without a weapon. I had no skills or attacks with which to fight bare-handed, and I was completely useless. Without the ability to delete my character and start anew (and thus re-gaining equipment) and no ability to trade (trade seemed broken), it was impossible for that character to do anything. I had to re-roll with a new name entirely.

Oh, I'll still be trying it out at first. Well, maybe not at first. I really don't want to mess with Paizocon people. That is not a good thing for people to experience on first contact with the game. At least last week the majority of people were already engaged with the mechanics, and knew the consequences of what I was doing. Random people walking into a room and sitting down won't have that.
Maybe I'll ask for a volunteer to be harassed.

You bring up a rather good point. We ("veteran Alphas") should all try not to be ***hats this weekend, in light of the idea that potential subscribers might be looking at this game for the very first time as they sit down to play at Paizocon this weekend.

That is a good point and one that I had not thought about.

The team is trying to get the persistence issue fixed. We may go with a version of the client that doesn't fix it and then look to release another version later. A lot of buzzing here in the office as we try to figure out the best plan and options.
The 1000XP should really help in this area, Ryan (thanks! it will help us get more useful testing done!!). But can someone add an "unstuck" button or maybe even perhaps a quick-and-dirty "delete character" button?

Non-persistence is fine, as long as you still aren't limiting character generation. It would suck if I made a character, it bugs, and I can't create a new one. It seemed last week that you didn't restrict it at all.
Exactly, and that's fine. But my character was stuck/bugged and I wanted to continue playing with the same name (new character) to fix it. But of course, had to come up with anew character name, or append with extra letters. :P
(thus, requesting a "Delete" button for characters).

I was told there is a delete button for characters. At least that is what Bob told me. I hope he is right, because right now, all my characters are in their underwear!

My download started at exactly 3:00pm saying "20min remaining" - now it's up to over an hour. -_-
(this is why I made that thread about releasing the clients as torrents, or otherwise have some sort of peer-to-peer sharing...).

LAST MINUTE NEWS UPDATE:
We have found and fixed a problem with the loss of persistent data between game sessions. When you exit the game and return you will find that your XP and inventory has been reset.
We are going to do some testing on this fix today, and we expect to push a new version of the client tomorrow. If you download and install today's client, please uninstall it before you install the hot-fixed updated client to follow.
Playing with today's client will not introduce any problems, you just won't retain XP or inventory when you log off.
