Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Oh of all the intolerable bugaboo... And I'm guessing that the warden was, again, casting defensively?

"YEOWCH!" Todin yells, as he's burned by the blazing ball.

The pain is immense, and might have killed a lesser man, but Todin was no such man. He was a Lael. He knew when to... strike!

Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Rapier Crit confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Not my day, is it?

Regular Rapier damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

As the Warden moves off of his mattress, Todin sees an opening.

Rapier Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 (remember that the Warden takes a -4 to AC for being prone until he has completed his action of standing)
Rapier Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

He plunges his rapier once more into... fabric at least. He's not sure if that connected with flesh at all...

Damn if I'll be defeated by a sheet!

Todin attempts an assault once more, hoping to avoid such fabricky tomfoolery now that the warden was standing.

Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Rapier Damage (on the off chance that actually hits): 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Alas, this attempt is even less successful. In the midst of Todin's thrust, the not-so-successful rogue steps upon the cast off sheet, almost falling on his face as he slips.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Hey all, just letting you guys know that I'm starting work at a new location, so the next few days I'm going to be moving around and may not have time to post. Will let you know what new schedule allows.

Same here. We're all chomping at the bit to get this party started!

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

In addition to Tragens question about casting defensively: the warden takes a -4 to AC against melee attacks until he stands up, which would provoke another AoO.

"Sonofa Barbazu's bastard!"

Todin cries out in pain as the bolts of force collide with his torso.

How!? How could he have survived that? I impaled him, I...

Then Todin looked down. He had indeed stabbed the man, but through the sheets. His blade had missed its fatal mark because the warden's form was obfuscated by his bedding.

"Drowning devils and damnation!"

Todin shakes off the pain and assumes a dueling stance, ready to strike.

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Haha! You thought Todin's Pride would want to pass up killing an enemy commander? Think again!

Todin tiptoes next to the bed, takes a shallow breath, and plunges his rapier into the sleeping form!

Coup de Grace auto crit: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (5) = 8 3x2+5 is 11 damage. The figure must make a DC 21 Fort save or die.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

"Why Elf, I would be honored," Todin states with a crocodile grin, his rapier gleaming in the torchlight.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

He sneaks up to the chamber extending to the left, peering about for a sleeping body.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Is Grumblejack still with us? We haven't heard from him in awhile...

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin does as he is beckoned, quieting his steps as he approaches the door.

Yes, yes, let the expert through, you bumbling bufoons.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Why does this always happens while others are watching?! Damn tools...

Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Todin tries a second time, but his haste merely betrays him. Taking a breath, he tries a third.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Hopefully that's done it...

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

"Quite right, Targi and Tragen. As my great uncle always said: 'Pillage before you burn.' A cousin of mine once decided to set an enemy's treasury aflame and then attempt to loot it. Poor fool lost his both his hands and half his men. We used to call him 'Toasted Tim' behind his back. The nickname got a little grim, though, after he was burned at the stake for heresy..."

Todin has been following along at a regular pace, not eager to be at either the front or the rear of the group. He does, however, follow directly behind Tragen as the large Angelkin ascends the next flight of stairs.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Hi guys, sorry about my lack of posting for the past few days. I got hit pretty bad with a combo of the flu and tonsilitis, so I've pretty much been doing nothing but sleeping and catching up on work. I'll get caught up on the game thread soon.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin will listen at the door first, and then if he finds the results to be satisfactory, will try to open the door. If it is locked, he will attempt to pick said lock.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin, in that case, will move quickly and stealthily to the corner of the building closest to the warden's tower.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

On his way, however, Todin stubs his toe on a stone hidden in the shadows. Letting out a rather unsavory curse word, he half-hops the rest of the way. The pain rather inhibits his perceptual acuity as well.

"Fine, I'll look! Must I do everything myself?"

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

"Yes, Father Jaedoom, I'll lead. Wait for my signal to follow."

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Todin, with extreme caution, opens the door from the kitchen just a crack to observe the exterior.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

If Todin observes an enemy, he will stop there, but if he perceives no immediate danger he will continue to the right and peer around the corner as well.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

"Much thanks, Elf. And worry not, we will divide the spoils at a more appropriate time. You have my word as a lord that I shall render unto Sotha what is Sotha's."

Todin raises his arm as he takes this oath, and accepts the rapier. His eyes run over the blade as he sheathes the dagger that once was in his hand.

"An elegant weapon for a more civilized technique. Hmmm... As much as I'm in favor of getting out of here, I believe our chances are best if we leave no survivors to fire at our backs as we flee. It might also do best to take the warden by surprise. I doubt he'll be prepared for an attack in the middle of his indulgent gambling. So... who's up for a little surprise warfare with our wonderful warden?"

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin balks at the large and unwieldy spear.

"I'll take a dagger over that thing any day, thanks."

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin wipes the sweat from his brow.

"Indeed it will. Glad it was worth the time. I'll hold onto it for safe keeping."

Todin dons his chain shirt once more, and sees the rapier at Sotha's side.

"Say, there weren't any more of those, were there?"

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

If Todin indeed does not succeed with his 28 (I figured it may be a non-canon DC since the book is 3rd party) then he will indeed take 20 for a total of 31, saying:

If not successful...:
"Alright you guys, this is some serious hardware. Give me some peace and quiet to concentrate in, and I can have it open in a minute or two."

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Wait, the trapfinding bonus doesn't just apply to traps?! Megan, I'd like to make that roll a 28, please.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

"Hellish Hamatulas! This one might be out of even my league..."

Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Nonetheless, he tries again, hoping a little extra effort will do the trick...

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

"Yes, yes, yes. One request at a time, now."

Before he commences with picking locks, Todin looks around to make sure it is safe. If he believes so, he will take off his chain shirt to achieve greater results. If he does not deem the area safe, he will keep the chain shirt on and take a -2 to his disable device checks.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

First he attempts to pick the armory door lock:
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

Then the Chest that Sotha found:
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin watches Tragen's blow with some amusement: "Well I was going to try one of the keys, but that works too..."

Thoughts:
[i]That's it. I'm through doing the grunt work, you brutes. It's time for you to work for ME.

Stage, mostly, and a few student films. And highly doubtful, as I'm making my professional debut this summer with a Shakespeare company in New England.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

"Storeroom? That sounds like something we'd like to search!"

Todin's Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Sense Motive 14:
You notice a great change in Todin's demeanor. Ever since he found the lute, he's been much happier than before.

While you can't hear his thoughts, the impression is somewhat along the lines of: Haha! I'm finally getting what I deserve: riches! When we get out of here, I'll use this to buy all sorts of things. Rebuild. Refit. Todin, you're really going places, and these peons don't even realize they're helping you.

Todin saunters over to the storeroom door, opens it, and looks around.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

I anticipated you'd want it, Jack. Out of character I felt that taking more than the lute would have been a bit unfair: Getting the short end of the stick just because someone else posted first sucks. Besides, the party will work better if we can all take full advantage of our feats.

Barbazu's beard! I could have used that! No matter. I'll let the half-breed get their attention while I sneak in from behind. Besides, I can hide my dagger far more easily should a situation arise where that's needed.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Whoops!

Seeing that the much larger Tragen was reaching for the whetstone at the same time, Todin decides to hand the object over to the larger and more imposing aasimar.

"I suppose I can spare this if you really need it."

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Appraise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

"Trinkets and minor baubles... except for this!

Todin picks up the Masterwork Lute, running his hands over the wood and strings.

"A fine piece of work. Reminds me of the one my grandfather used to have in his study. I'll hold onto this if you all don't mind. And this should be useful as well..."

Todin picks up the whetstone as well, beginning to run it over the edge of his dagger.

"I concur wholeheartedly. To the office!"

After 15 minutes with the whetstone, Todin's dagger will gain a +1 on it's next damage roll.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Jesus, Tragen, talk about overkill...

Todin will search the bodies for keys and other useful loot. He'll take 10 for a 17, as we're not in any immediate danger.

If we're going to make it out of this place alive, I'm going to be needing some more befitting belongings. A Lord of the Laels cannot subsist off of daggers alone...

Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Todin sneaks into the guardroom veeery veery carefully, silently regarding any sleeping bodies around. He draws close to the nearest one, raises his dagger and aims for the throat.

All the harder for them to scream... He thinks.

Coup de Grace: 1d4 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (6) = 10 with the base damage x2 is 14 damage. If that doesn't kill the guard, he must make a DC 22 Fort save or die.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin's delay is mostly due to his being unhappy with this turn of events. He looks back at his cleric friend:

"Father Jaedoom, I had hoped that the Dark Prince's will would allow our subterfuge to prevail, but it seems that our elf friend has made that quite impossible. Fear not, I shall put His guidance to good use."

Todin then joins the fray, attempting to flank with anyone in any way that he can.

Dagger Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19 +2 if flanking
Dagger Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 +1d6 Sneak Attack if flanking: 1d6 ⇒ 6

"Well that escalated quickly. Make sure they do not raise the alarm!"

Todin will also jump into the fray. He maneuvers as best as he can to the guard most likely to raise alarm, by the horn or otherwise, before the guard can act.

Initiative, if necessary: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin smiles.

"My bargain was also made long ago. The Prince of Law has been my family's patron for generations. You may have heard of some of my relatives: Executed for heresy. I was indicted for a different crime first, so I was never to face the flames at the hands of these goody-goody zealots. I am the picture of health at the moment, however, so waste not your magicks on me."

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin also dons a surcoat.

Disguise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

It seems to fit quite poorly, but still stays upon his shoulders.

"If it's not one thing, it's another..." he muttered.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Damn this... he may be right. I'd hate to lose an ally in this fight when I needed him, and this one seems important.

"Very well. Your point is well-taken. Far be it me to leave another man in a compromising situation when we can be of use to one-another."

Todin re-enters the cell and produces the lock-picks once more. He begins his work upon Malak's bonds.

Disable Device on Right Hand: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Don't lose your cool, Todin. Stay calm...

Disable Device fourth try on Left Hand: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

In a little under a minute, Todin successfully removes Malak's chains.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Keys? Excellent. Now I won't have to lower myself to unlock those chains like before. No antics like last time. Now that I'm armed and armored, it's time to show this motley crew that I am no one's fool.

"Fear not, good priest, it seems that you shall be free soon. Those seem to be some rather powerful magicks that this... I'm sorry, I never caught your name..." Todin says, addressing Shalastar.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Hey all! As a heads up, I won't be available for a while due to a long road trip I'm taking on Friday and Saturday. Perhaps all of both days depending on internet connectivity. I'll post when I can, but right now I need to sleep.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin walks over the room, seemingly ignoring Sotha's comment noting his incompetence.

Pay him no mind Todin. No mind at all. It doesn't matter that he's ungrateful for being freed. You went through those other locks in record time, it was just... that... one... GRRRRAH WHY DID THAT STUPID LOCK RESIST SO!?!

Bluff for Todin to not show these feelings in his face and actions: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

The former lawyer comes across Trieze's corpse, a dagger still clutched in the elf's hands. Todin wordlessly takes it. He then goes to the other dead guard (I'm not sure which one Jack looted, the one he shot or the one was killed before I got here) and searches for armor. If he has the same loot as the other guard, Todin puts on the chain shirt

After that, he turns to the bearded priest. "Malak, you say? Would you care for some assistance with those shackles?

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

"Do I ever! I was practically born with a set in my hands."

Todin gracefully bends, grasps the lockpicks and immediately begins to work on the locks around him.

No longer in initiative order, Todin goes to work.

Disable Device Sotha's Right hand Retry: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

"Well d*mn."

Todin's brow begins to sweat. His determination is almost palpable.

Disable Device Right Hand Re-retry: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Failing yet again, Todin grimaces and begins gritting his teeth.

Come on you stupid son of a-

Disable Device Right Hand Re-re-retry: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

At this point, Todin begins obsessing over the lock. If anyone tries to talk to him or otherwise engage him, he'll tell them to shush unless he's in immediate present danger.

Disable Device Righ Hand re-re-re-retry: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

"AH-HAAAAAA! Take that you stupid piece of metal! You shall forever rue the day that you challenged the house of Lael to feats of underhanded deftness!"

A moment passes.

Todin realizes he's been yelling at an an inanimate object. Everyone is most likely staring at him.

He brushes himself off, takes a few awkard steps outside the cell, and begins looking for whatever weapons and other objects have not yet been taken after all the time he's spent.

"Anyone have a dagger or some mail I could use?"

This whole process takes 11 rounds. This is also assuming these are all simple locks, so I'm prepared to retcon any of this if incorrect, Megan.

Male Human Scroll Scoundrel (Rogue) |16/22 hp|AC 18, T 14, FF 14|Fort+2 Ref+7 Will+0|Init. +4|Perc. +7|

Todin first addresses Kyrul, "Sorry, Half-Elf, but I can't help but notice that I'm still imprisoned. Shall I continue the mundane and difficult wriggling out of chains or would you actually like more allies on your side? And Sir Bowman, your idea of disguise is good, but if you really want to get out of here a more suitable trickster may be necessary," Todin points to himself.

"I'm very good at passing for things that I am not. Put a suit on my back, a dagger in my hand and you'll have the most potent ally in an environment like this that you could ever hope for. Deception and infiltration are my birthright. I'm afraid you, however, are a bit... gray to pass for a human prison guard."

Todin is unable to see Jack's pocketing.

Ah crap, Jack and Sotha are right. It's too bad b/c the backstory for Skaldi was actually well written. I change my vote:

1. Artorius
2. Malak
3. Xerxes

I am in favor of the applicants in this order:

1. Skaldi the Tallest
2. Artorius Pavo
3. Malak Jaedoom
