As Second Edition continues to build momentum, let’s take a look at the initial focus of the beginning adventures supporting the changed campaign setting: the Isle of Kortos. Throughout the entirety of the Golarion campaign setting, Absalom has been THE stopping point for most adventures on the isle. With the arrival of the Second Edition, we have been treated to two adventure paths that explore the rest of island, and it turns out that there is a LOT more to Kortos than just Absalom proper.

So, let’s go exploring across the Isle of Kortos, and the Isle of Erran as well! Trek out into the Cairnlands, venture into the heart of the Immenwood, climb the Kortos Mounts, hike across the Swardlands! Visit the other towns and cities of the isle, such as Otari, Diobel, Pier’s End, and Escadar. And most importantly, expand upon all of this for the 22nd issue of Wayfinder!

Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Campaign Setting world of Golarion and the Pact Worlds.

The theme for Wayfinder #22 will be the Isle of Kortos, focusing on those areas outside of Absalom, but not necessarily excluding Absalom. Given that the new Absalom book is coming out after the Open Call, it is tricky to write on specific places or features in the city without the risk of being made obsolete from the new content Paizo will be detailing in the book, so we encourage people who want to write Absalom submissions to take a more generic approach to places and people in the city. If you pick a named place with some importance, and expand on that, chances are that the book is going to do that as well. If your version contradicts the official Paizo material, it will likely be rejected. If it is a minor conflict, your piece may be selected, but revisions required. Ties to the Agents of Edgewatch AP would be more favorable submissions for locations within Absalom, as it specifically supports a published product.

Please use the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook Second Edition as your main reference, along with Lost Omens World Guide, and many published adventures (Abomination Vaults, Extinction Curse APs; The Gauntlet, Master of Fallen Fortress, Troubles in Otari), and tons of PFS scenarios (The Kortos Envoy, Bandits of Immenwood, Raiders of Shrieking Peak, Ruins of Bonekeep, Skeleton Moon, and others), as well as the handy-dandy Archives of Nethys, and PathfinderWiki!

Preference will be given to articles that follow the issue’s theme. Writers are invited to submit articles that fit within the following categories:

Advice: Share valuable information or experiences with new GMs or players in the new Lost Omens campaign setting and 2nd edition rules system. Submission size: 750 words.
Bestiary: New creatures to terrorize your PCs! Each creature counts as a separate submission. Submission size: 750 words per creature. However, because multiple creatures are combined to form a single bestiary article, smaller entries will be considered as long as they are complete. (i.e., a hard target word count of 750 words does not apply to bestiary entries. See the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary, Bestiary 2, or Bestiary 3 for examples of proper formatting and content.)
Fiction: Wayfinder now accepts fiction submissions directly from the public. Joining a writer’s group to help with editing and development is still highly recommended. Submission size: either 750 or 1,500 words.
Flavor Articles: People, shops, organizations, events, or other aspects of life on the Isle of Kortos in the Pathfinder Lost Omens Campaign Setting. These articles should build on the material already available in other Lost Omens sources. Flavor articles may include some rules material, such as item, location, or spell stat blocks, if necessary, but it should be a minor part of the article. Submission Size: 750 or 1,500 words.
Gazetteer: Expand and explore places on the Isle of Kortos that have little to no information about them in the campaign setting literature. If applicable, you may submit up to a 1/2-page map of your chosen locale. Submission size: 1,500 words.
Of Chance and Skill: Games, new to or adapted for Pathfinder, to play at your table. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
New Rules: Articles devoted to new backgrounds, ancestries, feats (ancestral, class, or general), or spells for the Pathfinder RPG Second Edition. Multiple smaller entries (usually feats, backgrounds, or spells) can be grouped together by a clear theme and submitted as one article. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
New Equipment: Articles detailing new weapons, armor, or magic items. See the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook Second Edition for examples of proper formatting and content.
Side Trek Seeds: Side trek seeds are short outlines that provide GMs with ideas, either as side treks for a Pathfinder adventure or as mini-adventures on the Isle of Kortos. Each side trek seed counts as a separate submission. Please refer to earlier issues of Wayfinder for the layout for this article. Submission size: 325 words.
Poetry and Song: Music and poetry often define a culture. Share your vision of the best-known songs and poems of Golarion, with special emphasis on the issue’s theme. Submission size: 35 to 50 lines in total.
Weal or Woe: Two 6th-level or lower NPCs (including statblocks—one potential ally, one potential adversary, set in the campaign setting on the Isle of Kortos. Include hooks for how PCs might meet each NPC and how to use them in a campaign. Include a boon that can come from the Weal character and a drawback from the Woe character. Please reference earlier Wayfinders for the layout for this article, and try to avoid lengthy and complicated stat blocks, as they take up more space than regular text, and can cause problems with layout (i.e., not enough room for art). Submission size: 1,500 words.

Guidelines

• Thou shalt not disregard canon, thou shalt build upon it.
• Keep in mind thy audience. Keep it PG-13. No slash fic/porn fantasies, cheesecake/beefcake/fan service. These are prohibited by the Community Use Policy.
• Short and sweet. Refer to the word count requirements for each type of submission. These are HARD targets, not a range. Articles submitted with word counts more than 5% above or below the target numbers will not be accepted.
• Limit of up to THREE submissions per person per issue. So, pick your three best ideas!
• Do not submit an article that relies heavily on another submission, whether the other submission is yours or someone else’s. Any submitted articles that reference (an)other article(s) must be pre-approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
• Stick to the theme. Articles that do not relate to the theme will not be accepted. Articles should be taking place on the Isles of Kortos or Erran.
• Submissions used to defame, harass, or threaten board members are not tolerated.

Submission Instructions

Conditions for Submissions. All authors and artists must agree to have their works reproduced for this and other Wayfinder products, be it for translations into other languages (we will be responsible for the truthfulness of the translations), special publications, or use on a Wayfinder website. All of Wayfinder’s publications are NON-PROFIT, and authors and artists will be given proper credit where due.

• Send all submissions to: wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com with the subject line containing “Wayfinder #22 Submission:”, followed by the article title.
All text submissions must be submitted in DOC or DOCX format (doesn’t matter if you use Office or OpenOffice). Note: Files sent in RTF, TXT, or any other format than DOC will be rejected.

• For people who use open-source software, like OpenOffice and LibreOffice, and save their files as .DOC files, there is a mismatch between file types when trying to open the .DOC files in versions of Word from 2013 and up. It results in losing the last few lines of text. Those lines can only be viewed on Word 2010 or earlier. If you use these open-source programs, you MUST put one or two carriage returns after your last paragraph before you save the document as a .DOC file. Otherwise, we will have great difficulty being able to read and edit your submission.

• Do not use fancy fonts or colors or styles for formatting - these will get stripped out in the editing and layout process. Use the standard body font for the program you’re using - bold and italics are fine. Ask us for an example of our style templates, if you’d like to use that. Tables must be tab delimited (DO NOT USE FORMATTED TABLES).

• Use standard Pathfinder RPG Second Edition formats for stat blocks. Familiarize yourself with the style and wording choices used in Paizo products and apply those same style and wording choices to your submissions. Insertion of the action icons (if you do not have access to the font) should be [one-action}, [two-actions], [three-actions], [reaction], [free-action].

• At the top of your submission, in the body of the article, provide the following information: article title (and subtitle, if any), author name(s), contact e-mail address(es), and word count of the submission.

For example,
Article About Something Cool: Subtitle Would Go Here
Liz ‘Lilith’ Courts
Lilithsemail@cooldomain.com
Word Count: 754 words

• Accepted entries will go through editing passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback from the editing process.

• Failure to follow these instructions or to meet one or more guidelines will result in rejection of the submission.

DEADLINE: October 15, 2021, 11:59 Pacific. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Some articles may be rejected depending on the final size of the PDF.

After two years, Wayfinder returns to Golarion, and Avistan is no longer the same. The Whispering Tyrant, Tar-Baphon, has broken free of his prison, destroying the nation of Lastwall in the process, and lashing out at the entirety of Avistan before finally being forced to retreat to the Isle of Terror. This is the current state in The Age of Lost Omens.

What changes will you find? Will you describe the unsettling scenes in The Gravelands, full of undead serving Tar-Baphon? Or perhaps explore Oprak, the new kingdom of hobgoblins? Will you venture West to the Saga Lands, and see what New Thassilon has to offer? Travel to Irrisen, and see how it has changed with their new Queen? Dare to visit to the East, to the Sarkoris Scar, and join the Reclaimers in their quest to restore their homeland after the demonic invasion? These are just a few of the changes that have transpired in the ten regions of the Inner Sea. There is much to discover.

There is also a whole new set of rules to explore and expand upon! New character creation rules and options! Ancestries, and feats galore! A new action economy! Revamped classes! And that opens up a lot of opportunities for new ideas to fit into the new rules!

So, let’s explore all the changes that a new Second Edition ruleset and an everchanging campaign setting presents, and expand upon it in this, the 21st issue of Wayfinder!

Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Campaign Setting world of Golarion and the Pact Worlds.

The theme for Wayfinder #21 will be The Age of Lost Omens: Aftermath! Please use the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook Second Edition as your main reference, along with the Lost Omens World Guide, (as well as the handy-dandy Archives of Nethys)!

See the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary or Bestiary 2 for examples of proper formatting and content.)
Fiction: Wayfinder now accepts fiction submissions directly from the public. Joining a writer’s group to help with editing and development is still highly recommended. Submission size: either 750 or 1,500 words. Longer fiction pieces allowed only by pre-approval of the Editor-in-Chief.
Flavor Articles: People, shops, organizations, events, or other aspects of life in the Pathfinder Lost Omens Campaign Setting. These articles should build on the material already available in other Lost Omens sources. Flavor articles may include some rules material, such as item, location, or spell stat blocks, if necessary, but it should be a minor part of the article. Submission Size: 750 or 1,500 words.
Gazetteer: Expand and explore places in Golarion following the escape of the Whispering Tyrant that have little to no information about them in the campaign setting literature. If applicable, you may submit up to a 1/2-page map of your chosen locale. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
Multiple smaller entries (usually feats, spells, or magic items) can be grouped together by a clear theme and submitted as one article. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
New Equipment: Articles detailing new weapons, armor, or magic items. See the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook Second Edition for examples of proper formatting and content. Article should have a "theme" tying the items together. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words. However, much like the Bestiary entries, we will accept smaller item entries, but these have a lesser chance of being used unless we can find a good home for them in an article.
Side Trek Seeds: Side trek seeds are short outlines that provide GMs with ideas, either as side treks for a Pathfinder adventure or as mini-adventures in the Inner Sea region after Tar Baphon’s escape and rampage. Each side trek seed counts as a separate submission. Please refer to earlier issues of Wayfinder for the layout for this article. Submission size: 325 words.
Poetry and Song: Music lyrics and poetry often define a culture. Share your vision of the best-known songs and poems of Golarion, with special emphasis on the issue’s theme. Submission size: 35 to 50 lines in total.
Weal or Woe: Two 6th-level or lower NPCs (including statblocks) — one potential ally, one potential adversary, set in the campaign setting following Tar Baphon’s resurgence.

As we announced last year, Wayfinder is now going to be an annual issue, released for PaizoCon each year. Therefore, Wayfinder #19 is slated for a May 2019 release.

With the revelation that Pathfinder v.2 was slated to begin a playtest in August 2018, with a final product in August 2019, we felt that producing a Pathfinder v.1 issue in May 2019 would not get a lot of interest. Luckily, readers have been requesting a Starfinder issue a since the Core Rulebook came out. Now, it’s important that a theme has enough created content from Paizo for fans to create new content, so we thought it best to give it some time….and we think it’s time now!

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Campaign Setting world of Golarion and the Pact Worlds.

The theme for Wayfinder #19 will be Starfinder’s Absalom Station! Please use the Starfinder RPG Core Rulebook as your main reference, along with Pact Worlds, and the Absalom Station Gazetteer in the Dead Suns Adventure Path: #1 Incident at Absalom Station (as well as the handy-dandy StarfinderWiki and the Archives of Nethys)! Preference will be given to articles that follow the issue’s theme. Writers are invited to submit articles that fit within the following categories:

    • Advice: Share valuable information or experiences with new GMs or players in the new Pact Worlds system. Submission size: 750 words.
    • Alien Archive: New creatures to terrorize your PCs! Each creature counts as a separate submission. Submission size: 750 words per creature. However, because multiple creatures are combined to form a single bestiary article, smaller entries will be considered as long as they are complete. (i.e., a hard target word count of 750 words does not apply to bestiary entries. See the Starfinder RPG Alien Archive for examples of proper formatting and content.)
    • Fiction: Wayfinder now accepts fiction submissions directly from the public. Joining a writer’s group to help with editing and development is still highly recommended. Submission size: either 750 or 1,500 words.
    • Flavor Articles: People, shops, organizations, events, poetry, or other aspects of life in the Starfinder Campaign Setting. These articles should build on the material already available in other sources. Flavor articles may include some rules material, such as item, location, or spell stat blocks, if necessary, but it should be a minor part of the article. Submission Size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • Gazetteer: Expand and explore places or levels on Absalom Station that have little to no information about them in the campaign setting literature. If applicable, you may submit up to a 1/2-page map of your chosen locale. Submission size: 1,500 words.
    • Of Chance and Skill: Games, new to or adapted for Starfinder, to play at your table. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • New Rules: Articles devoted to new themes, class archetypes, feats, or spells for the Starfinder RPG. Multiple smaller entries (usually feats, spells, or magic items) can be grouped together by a clear theme and submitted as one article. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • New Equipment: Articles detailing new weapons, armor, augmentations, technological items, magic items, hybrid items, or vehicles. See the Starfinder RPG Core Rulebook for examples of proper formatting and content.
    • Starship Building: The Starfinder RPG Core Rulebook contains rules for building starships! This article type is focused on building upon those rules. The article should contain a history or description of the ship or ship line, as well as stat blocks for each ship type. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • Side Trek Seeds: Side trek seeds are short outlines that provide GMs with ideas, either as side treks for a Starfinder adventure or as mini-adventures on Absalom Station. Each side trek seed counts as a separate submission. Please refer to earlier issues of Wayfinder for the layout for this article. Submission size: 325 words.
    • Poetry and Song: Music and poetry often define a culture. Share your vision of the best-known songs and poems of the Pact Worlds, with special emphasis on the issue’s theme. Submission size: 35 to 50 lines in total.
    • Weal or Woe: Two 6th-level or lower NPCs (including statblocks—one potential ally, one potential adversary.

Articles should be taking place on Absalom Station in some way.
    • Submissions used to defame, harass, or threaten board members are not tolerated.

    Submission Instructions

    • Conditions for Submissions.
    • Send all submissions to: wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com with the subject line containing “Wayfinder #19 Submission:”, followed by the article title.
    • All text submissions must be submitted in DOC or DOCX format (doesn’t matter if you use Office or OpenOffice).
    • Use standard Starfinder RPG formats for stat blocks. Familiarize yourself with the style and wording choices used in Paizo products and apply those same style and wording choices to your submissions.

      Word Count: 1,501 words

    • Accepted entries will go through editing passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback from the editing process.
    • Failure to follow these instructions or to meet one or more guidelines will result in rejection of the submission.
    • DEADLINE: October 31, 2018, 11:59 Pacific. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Some articles may be rejected depending on the final size of the PDF.

Hey there. This is Tim, the Editor-in-Chief of the Wayfinder fanzine. I have something I would like to run by all you Pathfinder fans, and especially by all the RPG Superstar fans.

First a little background. Back at PaizoCon 2017, Jacob Michaels (aka motteditor) approached me and asked if Wayfinder would be interested teaming up with the Swords for Hire gang (Jacob, Mikko Kallio, and Mike Welham) for their next Here Be Monsters contest. The prize would be that the winner would be printed in Wayfinder #18 (our Fey/First World issue coming out at PaizoCon 2018 this year). We worked things out, the contest went well, and we added the winner to our bestiary section line up. COOL!

With that as a success, Swords for Hire and Wayfinder have started to discuss doing something a bit more… ambitious. Something in the spirit of the Superstar contest. Now, let’s be clear here, we all realize that the RPG Superstar contest was HUGE, and there is no way our two volunteer groups can reproduce RPGSS. We accept that and want to be very clear on that fact. However….we’d like to try something to fill that void.

So we are in initial discussions on what such a contest would (and should) look like. The RPG Superstar contest meant lots of different things to lots of people. Some were in it for the glory, and that sweet Paizo contract to write a published adventure module. Some loved the rush of the competition. Some came and stayed for the community. And some just liked the brain exercise of game design.

So, if the Wayfinder/Swords for Hire teams held a design contest, it would be to find the next author to create our side trek adventure for Wayfinder #19 (theme to be announced later). Rounds would be assignments to show judges basic aptitudes for the creation of the different pieces that come together to make a side trek adventure. Initial discussions have revolved around rounds like the following: A Wondrous Magic Item. An encounter area with map. A Weal or Woe article. Your side trek adventure pitch.

Judges would be former Superstar finalists, semifinalists, established freelancers, hopefully some game industry folks, and members of the Wayfinder/Swords for Hire teams (which have some of all of that mixed in). The winner gets to use all their content from the rounds to write a 6-page side trek adventure for Wayfinder #19. Winners of the previous rounds? Well they now have content already prepared, along with the feedback on how to improve it. Those entries would be 100% allowed as submissions in the general Open Call for Wayfinder #19 (where they still have a fairly good chance of being selected).

That’s as far as we’ve made it in these initial discussions. We honestly have a lot of things still to talk about. The MOST IMPORTANT thing, we’d like to know though:

Would anybody be interested in participating?

Seriously. That’s what we want to know…. If we went through with this, would you, the fanbase, want to be a part of it? Do you have any suggestions for us to consider? Because, if we do this, we’d like to do it right, and we’d like to have a good-sized crowd.

Again, please keep in mind a few things:
    1) We are ALL volunteers. No one gets paid for doing this. We are doing it because we want to, and we miss that great community.
    2) This isn’t Paizo sponsored. It’s not official. This is working within the confines of the Community Use Policy to generate a Wayfinder fanzine feature.
    3) This isn’t RPG Superstar. So, we ask that all the expectations that this be “just like Superstar” be put aside. This is something… similar, but something new-ish. Simply put, this is what we make it as a community. And it’s going to take all of us to make it everything we want it to be. OK?

So, time for your feedback! Are you interested? Have thoughts or advice for our teams? Post them below, and let’s open this up for a really good discussion!

    Thanks!

    Tim, Kalyna, Eric, Dain (Wayfinder)
Jacob, Mikko, and Mike (Swords for Hire)

The Wayfinder Meet and Eat is a go!

Any Wayfinder authors, artists, and editors that are attending PaizoCon this year, and will be around on Thursday early evening, are invited to join us. (Sorry, not an open event....)

We will meet in the lobby of the Doubletree at 5:45 pm and walk over to Sharp's Roasthouse for our 6 pm reservation. I have reservations for 16 people, based on past years' attendance.

Since we are limited in spots, I'm going to need RSVPs. If you are planning on attending, please reply here or on the Facebook post. The more accurate the head count, the better.

    Sovereign Court Wayfinder, PaizoCon Founder

Setting up this discussion for those who are looking at this slot, and for those who eventually get in!

    Happy to answer questions.

As we previously announced, Wayfinder is now going to be an annual issue, released for PaizoCon each year. Therefore, Wayfinder #18 is slated for a May 2018 release.

Alright! Back to themed issues. This one is a theme that has been requested for quite a while, and we think it’s time…..Fey and the First World!

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion.

The theme for Wayfinder #18 will be Fey and the First World! Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference, along with Pathfinder Campaign Setting: The First World, Realm of the Fey; Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Fey Revisited; Legacy of the First World, and “The First World” in AP #36 Sound of a Thousand Screams (as well as the handy-dandy PathfinderWiki and the Archives of Nethys)!

Preference will be given to articles that follow the issue’s theme. Writers are invited to submit articles that fit within the following categories:

    • Advice: Share valuable information or experiences with new GMs or players in the world of Golarion. Submission size: 750 words.
    • Bestiary: New creatures to terrorize your PCs! Each creature counts as a separate submission. Submission size: 750 words per creature. However, because multiple creatures are combined to form a single bestiary article, smaller entries will be considered as long as they are complete. (i.e., a hard target word count of 750 words does not apply to bestiary entries. See the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary for examples of proper formatting and content.)
    • Fiction: Wayfinder now accepts fiction submissions directly from the public. Joining a writer’s group to help with editing and development is still highly recommended. Submission size: either 750 or 1,500 words.
    • Flavor Articles: People, organizations, events, poetry, or other aspects of life in the Pathfinder Campaign Setting. These articles should build on the material already available in other sources. Flavor articles may include some rules material, such as item, location, or spell stat blocks, if necessary. Submission Size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • Golarion Gazetteer: Expand and explore places or towns on the Inner Sea maps that have little to no information about them in the campaign setting literature. If applicable, you may submit up to a 1/2-page map of your chosen locale. Submission size: 1,500 words.
    • Of Chance and Skill: Games, new to or adapted for Golarion, to play at your table. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • New Rules: Articles devoted to new archetypes, prestige classes, class abilities, feats, spells or magic items for the world of Golarion. Multiple smaller entries (usually feats, spells, or magic items) can be grouped together by a clear theme and submitted as one article. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • Realm Building: Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Campaign contains rules for building armies, cities and kingdoms. This column is focused on building upon those rules. Submission size: 1,500 words.
    • Side Trek Seeds: Side trek seeds are short outlines that provide GMs with ideas, either as side treks for a Pathfinder adventure or as mini-adventures involving the fey and First World. Each side trek seed counts as a separate submission. Please refer to earlier issues of Wayfinder for the layout for this article. Submission size: 325 words.
    • Poetry and Song: Music and poetry often define a culture. Share your vision of the best-known songs and poems of the Inner Sea, with special emphasis on the issue’s theme. Submission size: 35 to 50 lines in total.
    • Weal or Woe: Two 7th-level or lower NPCs (including statblocks—one potential ally, one potential adversary. Hey Everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know that we have made the decision to switch Wayfinder over to an annual (1 issue per year) publication, thus dropping the winter issue, and focusing primarily on our PaizoCon issue. The single issue will likely exceed our current 76-page limit, so that we can take in more new authors and artists.

Printing for PaizoCon will be entirely dependent on whether we have enough sponsors to fund a print run, otherwise it will be PDF only.

Why the change? Simple. The back-to-back schedule for the two issues has become too much for our solely volunteer efforts. This option allows us to be much more flexible, but helps avoid the cancellation of Wayfinder, which I hope no one wants.

We also would like to try and fill the winter void by taking on much smaller, special projects, like a collection of Beginner Box scenarios, or a Gazetteer-based supplement, depending on volunteer interest and availability. We'll see how it goes, I guess.

So, Wayfinder #18 will be our PaizoCon 2018 issue, #19 for PaizoCon 2019...and so on. (See how that works out? Pretty cool, right?)

We greatly appreciate all the support our fellow fans have given to Wayfinder, and hope that you want to continue to be a part of our community project going forward.

If you have any questions, please ask in the thread here. We will try and have good answers for you!

PaizoCon 2017 will mark two momentous milestones….the 10th PaizoCon (if you include that very first one in 2008) AND TEN YEARS of Pathfinder! Wayfinder #7 marked the 5 year anniversary for Pathfinder by establishing the theme to include all Pathfinder products published to date. We thought we should build off that concept, but pick it up where #7 left off in 2012, and continue it on through 2016. It’s about as open-concept for a theme that we are willing to attempt!

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion.

The theme for Wayfinder #17 will be Another Five Years of Pathfinder 2012-2016! What does this include? Glad you asked!

    • Skull and Shackles (February 2012)
    • Shattered Star (August 2012)
    • Reign of Winter (February 2013)
    • Wrath of the Righteous (August 2013)
    • Mummy's Mask (February 2014)
    • Iron Gods (August 2014)
    • Giantslayer (February 2015)
    • Hell's Rebels (August 2015)
    • Hell's Vengeance (February 2016)
    • Strange Eons (August 2016)

Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference, along with any of the aforementioned Adventure Paths and their supplements (as well as the handy-dandy PathfinderWiki and the Archives of Nethys)! With no idea of where to post, I'm choosing here.

On the Thursday before PaizoCon, Wayfinder invites our contributors (that includes authors, artists, editors, and sponsors) to get together for a Meet and Eat. Last year, we met at Sharp's Roaster across the street. I am looking into seeing if Dave's Diner has space we can reserve as an alternative.

I would like to get an idea of how many of our contributors will be around on Thursday, and would like to join us.

I'd also like to know if anyone has a strong preference as to where we should eat....Sharp's again? Maybe the diner? Maybe the Thai place across the street? 13 Coins?

OK, folks. I am sort of known to start things that take off pretty well. So, I have a proposition....

We might be a small convention, but we are still a convention! And one thing that I keep seeing at conventions are badge ribbons. Such ribbons are coveted at conventions, with people trying to collect as many as possible, and having fun doing it!

So, I would like to see different groups and persons create their own humorous and Pathfinder-themed ribbons to hand out to fellow con-goers. Wayfinder will definitely be handing some out, and I do believe that the Razmiran Faith Barge Union #107 will be providing ribbons to prospective new members.....;-) I also think I'll be printing a small, elite set for PaizoCon first-timers and/or PaizoCon Founding Members (attended the 1st PaizoCon).

Honestly, the possibilities are ENDLESS. And ribbons can be had at 100 for $30 or so....easily done online.

So, who's game to start a new tradition for PaizoCon?

Let's use this thread to knock some ideas around, and if you want to commit to joining this cause, state your ribbon idea and how many you plan on bringing to hand out.

Numeria...a bizarre land, filled with both savages and wonders of a new kind of magic: technology. Wondrous tales trickle out of the area, some too strange to believe. From the hundreds of valleys of the Felldales, rumored to have been formed from the Rain of Stars, stories tell of monoliths and areas rich in the alien skymetal. Travelers recount the wonders of the Numerian Plains, of the purple fires of Torch, and rumors of a hidden city full of metal men. Men whisper in fear and awe of the decadent rule of the Black Sovereign in Starfall, his mind poisoned by the Technic League, and the silent and brutally efficient patrols of the gearmen in the capital. An alien land, with countless wonders and fathomless mysteries. And yet, so much more lies undiscovered....

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion.
The theme for Wayfinder #16 will be Numeria! Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference, along with Numeria, Land of the Fallen Stars, Technology Guide, and the Iron Gods Adventure Path (as well as the handy-dandy PathfinderWiki and the Archives of Nethys)!

    • Side Trek Seeds: Side trek seeds are short outlines that provide GMs with ideas, either as side treks for a Pathfinder adventure or as mini-adventures set in Numeria.
    • Tales from the Front: Fiction articles based on any of Paizo’s adventure modules or paths. Submission size: 1,500 words.
    • Weal or Woe: Two 7th-level or lower NPCs (including statblocks—one potential ally, one potential adversary.

Articles should feature things in or related to Numeria, not another region.
    • Submissions used to defame, harass, or threaten board members are not tolerated.

    Submission Instructions

    • Conditions for Submissions: All authors and artists must agree to have their works reproduced for this and other Wayfinder products, be it for translations into other languages (we will be responsible for the truthfulness of the translations), special publications, or use on a Wayfinder website. All of Wayfinder’s publications are NON-PROFIT, and authors and artists will be given proper credit where due.
    • Send all submissions to: wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com with the subject line containing “Wayfinder #16 Submission:”, followed by the article title.
    • All text submissions must be submitted in DOC or DOCX format (doesn’t matter if you use Office or OpenOffice). Note: Files sent in RTF, TXT, or any other format than DOC or DOCX will be rejected.
    • Use standard Pathfinder RPG formats for stat blocks. Familiarize yourself with the style and wording choices used in Paizo products and apply those same style and wording choices to your submissions.

      Word Count: 1,501 words

    • Accepted entries will go through editing passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback from the editing process.
    • Failure to follow these instructions or to meet one or more guidelines will result in rejection of the submission.
    • DEADLINE: August 31, 2016, 11:59 Pacific. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Some articles may be rejected depending on the final size of the PDF.

Walk Any Road, Float Any River...

The River Kingdoms are the true frontier of Golarion. Whether you’re in a calculated duel in Mivon, taking a turn in the Arena of Aroden in Tymon, walking down a dark alley in Daggermark, camping overnight on the shores of Glow Water Lake near Mosswater, or just staying too long in the unstuck side of Uringen, the life you make here is your own. These lands call many seeking to start a new life. Some hope to settle the lands and perhaps carve out new nations on the edges of the ones already established…whatever your reasons for entering the River Kingdoms, one fact hold true:
You Have What You Hold. The question is, how long can you hold it?

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion.
The theme for Wayfinder #15 will be The River Kingdoms! However, because multiple creatures are combined to form a single bestiary article, smaller entries will be considered as long as they are complete. (i.e., 750 words is the upper limit for bestiary entries, rather than a hard target. See the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary for examples of proper formatting and content.)

We exist in all places, in shadow and light, in forests and ruins, above and below ground, on this plane and others. Yet what do you know of us, truly? How well do you know these creatures you slay? Come then, let us rectify this. Let us teach you what it means to be “monsters.”

    Goal

The goal for the Wayfinder fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion. In the process, we both show Paizo our love for their creation, and we showcase the talent in the fan community, hopefully opening doors to the industry for some.

The theme for Wayfinder #14 is more of an open concept: Monsters!

What does this mean? Monsters are the focus. Weal or Woe articles should feature monsters, not the standard races. Fiction should have monsters as the main characters. Magic Items, spells, feats, special archetypes and PrCs...all for use by monsters.

Your main references should be all the Pathfinder Bestiaries, the Monster Codex, the Advanced Race Guide, and the Inner Sea Monster Codex (to be released in May 2015), as well as the Inner Sea World Guide. Also, be sure to use the handy-dandy PathfinderWiki and the Archives of Nethys!

Submission size: Max 750 words per creature. However, because multiple creatures are combined to form a single bestiary article, smaller entries will be considered as long as they are complete. (i.e., a hard target word count of 750 words does not apply to bestiary entries. (See the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary for examples of proper formatting and content.)
    • Fiction: Wayfinder now accepts fiction submissions directly from the public. Joining a writer’s group to help with editing and development is still highly recommended. Submission size: either 750 or 1,500 words.
    • Flavor Articles: Notable monsters, organizations, events, or other aspects of monster life in the Pathfinder Campaign Setting. These articles should build on the material already available in other sources. Flavor articles may include some rules material, such as item, location, or spell stat blocks, if necessary. Submission Size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • Golarion Gazetteer: Expand and explore locations, cities, or lairs on the Inner Sea maps that have little to no information about them in the campaign setting literature. If applicable, you may submit up to a 1/2-page map of your chosen locale. Submission size: 1,500 words.
    • Of Chance and Skill: Games, new to or adapted for Golarion, to play at your table. Again, these should match the monster theme. Submission size: 750 or 1,500 words.
    • New Rules: Articles devoted to new archetypes, prestige classes, class abilities, feats, spells or magic items for monsters in the world of Golarion.
This column is focused on building upon those rules, and for THIS issue, it should be all about monsters. Submission size: 1,500 words.
    • Side Trek Seeds: Side trek seeds are short outlines that provide GMs with ideas, either as side treks for a Pathfinder adventure or as mini-adventures. Each side trek seed counts as a separate submission. Please refer to earlier issues of Wayfinder for the layout for this article. Submission size: 325 words.
    • Poetry and Song: Music and poetry often define a culture, even that of monsters. Share your vision of the best-known songs and poems of the Inner Sea, with special emphasis on the issue’s theme. Submission size: 325 or 500 words.
    • Tales from the Front: Fiction articles based on any of Paizo’s adventure modules or paths. Submission size: 1,500 words.
    • Weal or Woe: Two monster NPCs, 1st- to 7th-level (including statblocks)—one potential ally, one potential adversary.

Shadows linger where the dead once ruled the living. Those who would cast aside the darkness may not be ready for what the light reveals...

The Whispering Tyrant and his armies controlled Ustalav for over six hundred years. The scars of his reign have not fully healed in the nine centuries since his defeat. In his wake, the old Kingdom could not be remade. The wealthy scheme and plot against one another, benefiting from membership in esoteric societies that promise power, worldly and otherwise, for a price. While nobles bicker and stab at each other from the cover of darkness, the orcs of Belkzen continue to press Ustalav’s borders. Meanwhile, the restless dead and other monsters haunt the mist-shrouded land. Whether created by the Whispering Tyrant, drawn here by the tainted energies that still linger, or trapped here by the horror of events from long ago, these terrors stalk ancient hallways, remote forests, and fog-bound streets. Enter, if you dare. There are great treasures to be found in Ustalav. But if you are careless, losing your life may only be the beginning of your nightmare.

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion.
The theme for Wayfinder #13 will be Ustalav! Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference (as well as the handy-dandy PathfinderWiki and the Archives of Nethys)! Preference will be given to articles that follow the issue’s theme.
Please read this entire Call for Submissions to ensure that you are following the most up-to-date guidelines.

Please reference earlier issues of Wayfinder for the layout for this article. Submission size: 1,500 words.

    Guidelines

    • Stick to the theme. Articles that do not relate to the Ustalav theme will not be accepted.
    • Submissions used to defame, harass, or threaten board members are not tolerated.

    Submission Instructions
    • Conditions for Submissions.
    • Send all submissions to: wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com with the subject line containing “Wayfinder #13 Submission:”, followed by the article title.

    • DO NOT USE FORMATTED TABLES. Tables must be tab delimited. If your article requires a table and you are unsure about these instructions, please contact us for an explanation before submitting.
    • Use standard Pathfinder RPG formats for stat blocks. Familiarize yourself with the style and wording choices used in Paizo products and apply those same style and wording choices to your submissions.
    • For reference in this issue, the country’s name is Ustalav. People from Ustalav are called Ustalavs. The adjective used to describe things from Ustalav is Ustalavic. Languages spoken in Ustalav are Common, Skald, and Varisian.
    • At the top of your submission, in the body of the article, provide the following information: article title (and subtitle, if any), author name(s), contact e-mail address(es), and word count of the submission. For example,

Enter a land reborn! Like new life rising from the fertile soil along the River Sphinx, Osirion’s ancient mysteries call to you! Visit the resplendent city of Sothis and then venture beyond its walls to uncover the remains of 9,000 years of history. The Ruby Prince blesses your endeavors, for he knows that your risk is great, but your efforts help restore the glory of the Land of Pharaohs.

The word has spread. From the Alamein Peninsula to the Brazen Peaks, a land once closed to foreigners is now open for exploration. Take up your weapons and prepare your spells, for adventure awaits! Uncover the mysterious secrets of the Black Sphinx and share the lost history of Menedes I, the Sky Pharaoh. Tell us of your discovery at Lamashtu’s Flower and of your harrowing escape from Nathrek the Pale and his vicious gnoll cultists. Detail your findings in the Slave Trenches of Hakotep and share your theories about the strange, ever-changing hieroglyphics in amber—what terrible event do those ever-decreasing numbers portend? Reveal what lies in the Temple of An-Alak, between the Underdunes and the Salt Hills or share the stories of your brave companions who were lost within the tomb of Ahn'Selota, known to outsiders as the Pact Stone Pyramid. These and many more stories must be told. Historical artifacts must be recovered and studied so that the spirits of the ancient dead and their greatest deeds will not be forgotten. In helping to recover Osirion’s lost heritage, brave adventurer, you stand to gain great wealth and power…in this world or the next.

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion.

The theme for Wayfinder #12 will be Osirion! Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference (as well as the handy-dandy PathfinderWiki and the Archives of Nethys)! Preference will be given to articles that follow the issue’s theme.

    • Side Trek Seeds: Side trek seeds are short outlines that provide GMs with ideas, either as side treks for a Pathfinder adventure or as mini-adventures set in Osirion.
Submission size: 325 or 500 words.
    • Weal or Woe: Two 7th-level or lower NPCs (including statblocks)—one potential ally, one potential adversary. Include hooks for how PCs might meet each NPC and how to use them in a campaign. Include a boon that can come from the Weal character and a drawback, from the Woe. Please reference earlier Wayfinders for the layout for this article. Submission size: 1,500 words.

    Guidelines

    • Thou shalt not disregard canon, thou shalt build upon it.
    • Keep in mind thy audience. Keep it PG-13. No slash fic/porn fantasies, cheesecake/beefcake/fan service.
    • Short and sweet. Refer to the word count requirements for each type of submission. These are HARD targets, not a range. Articles submitted with word counts more than 5% above or below the target numbers will not be accepted.
    • Limit of THREE submissions per person per issue. So, pick your three best ideas!
    • Do not submit an article that relies heavily on another submission, whether the other submission is yours or someone else’s. Any submitted articles that reference (an)other article(s) must be pre-approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
    • Stick to the theme. Articles that do not relate to the Osirion theme will not be accepted.
    • Submissions used to defame, harass, or threaten board members are not tolerated.

Behold the might of the empire! From the Arcadian Ocean to the Aspodell Mountains and beyond, Queen Abrogail II, Infernal Majestrix of Cheliax, reaches out to bring all the people of the Inner Sea under her control. And both her ambitions and her grip are strengthened by the powers of Hell.

Hey! Psst! Over here! If you want to say out of trouble—and keep your freedom, you’ll put away those holy symbols and that Pathfinder badge. I don’t know how you’ve stayed out of the hands of the Inquisitors this long, but you can bet someone’s got their eye on you. In Cheliax, everyone watches everyone else, and nobody trusts anyone if they’re smart. You want to know about Cheliax? I can tell you things. I can tell you about the temple to Asmodeus in Barrowood where the queen’s own mum made her deal with Hell or about the gate to the Infernal Realms that yawns in the middle of Whisperwood. I can tell you about the winged devils that come down from the mountains to torment sailors in Hellmouth Gulf or their close cousins, the Hellknights of Citadel Enferac, who march pretty much wherever they want. There’s both good and evil in Cheliax, if you know where to look. In places like Westcrown and Egorian, when the law comes looking, good and evil often have to share the same hiding places. Now, some of what I’ll tell you is true, and some of it isn’t. But whether you’re an adventurer searching for treasure among the ruins of fallen noble houses or part of the “resistance” looking to free a few slaves, you learn quickly that in Cheliax, if you have enough power, the truth is whatever you want it to be. Be smart, be strong, stay hidden, and you just might keep your head.

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion.

The theme for Wayfinder #11 will be Cheliax! Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference (as well as that handy-dandy PathfinderWiki)! In the case of a plethora of articles on similar subjects, preference will be given to articles that follow this theme. As always, crunch (classes, spells, magic items, etc.), fiction, and flavor (people, places, organizations, events) articles are welcome!
In addition, writers can submit to one of several regular series featured in Wayfinder:

    • Advice: Have some advice you want to pass on to new GMs or players to the world of Golarion?
    • Bestiary: New creatures to terrorize your PCs with!
    • Fiction: Wayfinder will now accept all submissions from the public, 750 or 1500 words. We do recommend you join a writer’s group to help with editing and development, though.
    • Golarion Gazetteer: Places or towns on the Inner Sea maps that have little to no information on them in the campaign setting literature. Expand and explore!
    • Of Chance and Skill: Games, new to or adapted for Golarion, to play at your table!
    • Prestigious: This article is devoted to a new prestige class for the world of Golarion.
    • Realm Building: The Kingmaker Adventure Path introduced a lot of new goodies for building armies, cities and kingdoms. This column is focused on building upon those rules.
    • Side Treks: Side treks feature short outlines for a sidetrek adventure set in a particular Pathfinder adventure, from the products listed below. One side trek outline per submission for this column. Please reference earlier Wayfinders for the layout for this article. Submission size: 325 words.
    • Tales from the Front: Fiction articles based on any of Paizo’s adventure modules or paths.
    • Weal or Woe? Two NPCs (including statblocks), one helpful, one not so much. Include hooks for the PCs to know (or hate) this NPC and how to use them in a campaign. Include a boon (Weal) and drawback (Woe) for the NPCs in your article. Please reference earlier Wayfinders for the layout for this article.

    Guidelines

    • Thou shalt not disregard canon, thou shalt build upon it.
    • Keep in mind thy audience. Keep it PG-13. No slash fic/porn fantasies, cheesecake/beefcake/fan service.
    • Short and sweet. Unless otherwise specified, article sizes are 750 and 1,500 words. These are HARD targets, not a range, so come as close as possible to these targets. Coming in too far under or over these targets will likely result in the rejection of your submission. Anything over 1,500 words must be pre-approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
    • Limit of THREE submissions per person per issue. So, pick your three best ideas!
    • You should refrain from any submissions that are reliant upon another submission. This puts us in a difficult situation in being forced to take both if we just like the one, or taking neither of them. Any submitted articles that reference another article(s) must be pre-approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
    • Stick to the theme. An article on frost giants in a desert-themed issue is not going to make it. Sorry.
    • Submissions used to defame, harass, or threaten board members are not tolerated.

    • Include your name and board name as text at the very beginning of your submission - example, “Liz ‘Lilith’ Courts”. We compile these in a folder, and if we open up the file, and your name is absent, it’s hard to credit you. So, don’t make us hunt for you name, OK?
    • Your entries will go through editing passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback on the editing process and your script.

From the Brazen Peaks to the Zho Mountains, the deserts between sigh with hot winds, and danger lurks behind every dune. Yet, the caravans keep moving, and trade endures.

Come, Adventurer, spend your gold here, in my humble stall, and we shall trade--not only for goods, but for stories of the desert, of the wonders of Katapesh, and the majesty of Qadira! I will tell you of the wonders of the Peculiar Emporium, and the dangers of the Nightstalls. I will recount to you the sights and smells of glorious Katheer, the city of a thousand caravans! And you, Brave Traveler, will you tell me of the ruins of El-Fatar, Kelmarane, Al-Bashir, or Shadun? Or perhaps you have ventured to the Zolurket Mines, testing the rumors that they are still full of ores and riches? No? Oh well…here then, peruse my wares! Exotics from Bug Harbor! A carpet from Gurat! I’m told it can fly, if you know the command word! Wait! My friend! I’ll give it to you for 100 gold! 50! Do not walk away from such a bargain!

Deep below, through endless passages, in the twisted caverns, evil awaits you.

There is a world of darkness below us. A world of tunnels and caverns, of entire cities of dark denizens. Shadows upon shadows…this is the Darklands! Few surface-dwellers have survived the dangers below, but yet strange tales exist of an inverted city ruled by evil fey; of the necropolis Nemret Noktoria, homeland of ghouls; of Zirnakaynin, the “Last Home of the Elves”. Stranger still are the rumors of deeper lands, the Vaults, and the great evils that dwell within them. Rumors, that is, from the mouths of madmen, screaming of places like Ilvarandin, the Midnight Mountains, and of sailing the Sightless Sea.

Perhaps you, brave Pathfinders, have information to share of these dark places?

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Campaign Setting world of Golarion.

The open seas, they call to you!

Pull up a chair, Pathfinder, and tell your tales to this here old sea dog…. Tell me of the reefclaws and great whites of the Lost Coast! Or have you skirted the Eye of Abendigo, sailed with the Free Captains of the Shackles? Perhaps you could tell me about sailing out of Quantium, through the polluted waters of the Miasmere, or along the Coast of Graves of Osirion? Do you have tales of the Steaming Sea, with the fast ships of the Mordant Spire elves? Ah! Perhaps you are an explorer, crossing the Arcadian Ocean to search the remnants of Azlant, or the wild lands of Arcadia! Tell me! Barkeep, my friend here has tales to tell…keep his mug filled!

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Chronicles world of Golarion.
The theme for Wayfinder #8 will be focusing on the seas and coasts of Golarion! Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference (as well as that handy-dandy PathfinderWiki)! In the case of a plethora of articles on similar subjects, preference will be given to articles that follow this theme. As always, crunch, fiction, and flavor articles are welcome!
In addition, writers can submit to one of several regular series featured in Wayfinder:

    • Advice: Have some advice you want to pass on to new GMs or players to the world of Golarion?
    • Bestiary: New creatures to terrorize your PCs with!
One sidetrek outline per submission for this column.

Anything over 1,500 words will have to be pre-approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
    • Submissions used to defame, harass, or threaten board members are not tolerated.

    Submission Instructions

    • Conditions for Submissions.
    • Send all submissions to: wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com with the subject line containing “Wayfinder #8 Submission”.
    • All text submissions must be submitted in DOC or DOCX format (doesn’t matter if you use Office or OpenOffice). Note: Files sent in RTF, TXT, or any other format than DOC will be rejected.
    • Do not use fancy fonts or colors or styles for formatting - these will get stripped out in the editing and layout process. Use the standard body font for the program you’re using - bold and italics are fine.
    • For tables, please make them tab delimited. Fancy formatted tables just get reduced to this format anyway.
    • Include your name and board name in your submission - example, “Liz ‘Lilith’ Courts”. Your entries will go through editing passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback on the editing process and your script.
    • DEADLINE: October 14, 2012, 11:59 Pacific. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Some articles may be rejected depending on the final size of the PDF.

    The Polls have opened!

I posted this is in the Contest thread, but the link is buried deep in comments, so I've moved it to it's own thread!

We, the judges have chosen! Now is the time to VOTE!!

Matt "fray" Widmann, Ted "Zuxius" Thompson, Andrew Vallas of Paizo, and myself all sat down and discussed the 17 entries in this contest. In an hour long conversation over Skype, we selected what we all agreed were the top five logos.

Now, keep in mind, the judges had critical comments about each one of these logos, and whichever logo does claim the most votes will still require some modifications. But, we all agreed that each of these logos, with the necessary corrections and changes, would serve as a great logo for PFU.

And now, you, the Paizo fans, get to vote on which of these excellent logos should become the OFFICIAL PFU symbol. This logo will adorn Wayfinders, Pathfinder Chroniclers Anthologies, and future PFU products.

The Voting Survey can be reached VIA THIS LINK.

The voting poll closes on May 15th, 11:59 PM Pacific.

Good luck to each of our finalists!

And also, feel free to continue this thread with discussion on which logo YOU like best! We'd like to hear your thoughts!

    Sovereign Court Wayfinder, PaizoCon Founder

So, every year we've had a PaizoCon, it has been a tradition to hold a dinner event that we call the "Meet and Eat" the Thursday night before PaizoCon on Friday.

For the first PaizoCon, we held it at Todai Sushi/Asian Buffet, in the Redmond Town Center (that is gone, but a nearly identical restaurant called Haiku is there now). We had maybe 20 people.

For the 2nd-4th PaizoCon in Bellevue, we have held the Meet and Eat at the Crab Pot in Bellevue. This event went from 50 to 130 people attending in that time.

Now, for this, the 5th PaizoCon, we are in Redmond. Not only that, we are in the Redmond Town Center. Lots of places to eat. But not many can handle a 100+ person event.

Here are my top two suggestions at this time, both very close to the hotel:

Haiku Sushi Buffet. This would be sort of a "homecoming" for me, as this was the same space we held the 1st Meet and Eat. Price is $25+drink cost. All you can eat sushi, seafood, Asian cuisine. Private party space only holds 60 people, though. So any people in excess of that would need to get a table outside of the party room. I am inquiring about the availability of the party room, and whether we could take over the tables in the area of the room as well.

Claimjumper. I just went to dinner here tonight. The menu is VAST. They have a pretty large area that could accommodate 100+ people. They have a happy hour from 3:00pm - 7:00pm in their saloon area, so a great way to hang out and gather before we go get seated at 6:30 or 7 PM.

Again, these are my initial choices. I have no confirmation of availability for July 5th.

I would like to hear from all of you that are coming to PaizoCon 2012, and are planning on attending the Meet and Eat. What sounds good to you? (keep in mind, I can only pick ONE)

Paizo Fans United. What exactly is it? A company? A secret organization? A front?

Paizo Fans United (PFU) is a banner for fan-based products produced under Paizo’s Community Use Policy. Rumor has it that Paizo needed something to put the Wayfinder issues under in their store, and "Paizo Fans United" seemed to be a pretty apt name. Since then, Wayfinder Fanzine issues have been loaded under the PFU name, and recently the Pathfinder Chroniclers’ Anthology was added. But, the PFU banner has come to mean a bit more. These are not just any fan-made materials. These are products that are inspired by Pathfinder content and by Paizo’s quality. The result is a highly professional look that makes readers question, "this is by fans?? Wow." THAT is what the Paizo Fans United banner means.

But, despite all that, when people ask for a logo for PFU...well, there isn’t one. :-/

After nearly a year of discussions about how to come up with a suitable logo for PFU came up with no ideas, Hugo (butterfrog) Solis proposed this: A CONTEST.

    And so it shall be!

We call upon the Paizo fan community to design a logo for Paizo Fans United!

This logo should be the best representative image that symbolizes professional quality content produced by Pathfinder fans FOR Pathfinder fans.

We will be accepting your interpretations and designs until April 16, 2012. Then, a panel of judges from the Paizo Fans United representatives will select their TOP 5 choices from the pool of entries, to be announced on April 30, 2012. At that time, the contest will be open to the public to vote for their favorite logo from the top 5 choices. Voting will close on May 15, 2012.

The end result, of course, is a fan-created logo for a fan-based content banner chosen by the fan community!

PRIZE: The designer of the winning logo will not only receive the accolades of the fan community, and get to see their logo representing the Paizo Fans United banner, but they will also receive:

    • Print copies of Wayfinder #1, 3, 5, and 7
    • Print copies of Pathfinder Chroniclers Anthology #1 and #2

So, in case anyone is curious, each of the aquatic insects is actually based on the real thing. I'm an aquatic entomologist by profession, and it has been my wish to be able to make some of what I see under the microscope in a bestiary as MONSTERS.

The artwork that is shown in #49 is of the belostomatid...the giant water bug. Belostomatidae is the family name of these true bugs. To get a good idea of these critters you can download a PDF on them. Or google "belostomatid". Lots of good pictures. Even a few youtube videos of them hunting!

The water strider is also a true bug, from the family Gerridae. These are the "jesus bugs" you see skimming across lakes and ponds, and slower river waters. They can gather in swarms, too...just not on humans!

The hellgrammite is a dobsonfly larvae. You can't get a real good sense of how truly nasty these things can be until you SEE and HOLD them. Check out these wonderful pictures!

For all those attending PaizoCon 2011.....

Our Butterfrog is once again hauling our Wayfinders north to Bellevue, and our Wayfinder funds are depleted!! If you are at PaizoCon, and enjoy your copy of Wayfinder, please consider a small donation. You don't have to, but even a buck would help us to cover these last unforeseen costs of getting your copy to PaizoCon.

    BACKGROUND:

For the past two PaizoCons, Paizo Fans United has produced a PaizoCon edition of Wayfinder, the Pathfinder 'zine by fans, for fans. What is special is that it is an actual PRINTED issue, and it is provided for free to all attendees.

But, printing isn't cheap. In order to print copies, we ask for donations. 3PP companies donate money for advertising space in Wayfinder. Paizo fans donate to support the 'zine and to get a physical copy for themselves. Paizo has been very supportive in donating $1 for every PaizoCon glass sold.

This year, we have produced Wayfinder #5. To scale up with PaizoCon, we have also printed more physical copies than ever before....500 copies. Luckily we had raised enough funds to meet all these costs.

    Or so we thought.

The copies have been printed and assembled. Now, to just get them from Mexico to PaizoCon....

That's where we need your help.

In the past two years, Hugo (aka Butterfrog) has taken it upon himself (literally) to haul our copies in his own luggage, and check his bags to get the Wayfinders to us. He has even enrolled the help of Carlos! This has worked, but checked bag fees have gone up, and the weight limits are less (with steeper fees, too). And we have spent all our funds on the bigger print run.

So, as you page through your copy at PaizoCon, think about Hugo and Carlos lugging their suitcases full of Wayfinders. If you can spare a buck or two, find Hugo or myself. We will be VERY appreciative!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Gather around our campfire, visitor, and we will tell you tales of daring to fill your heart and sing songs to make even the hardest soul weep. Try your hand at Towers, or if you are brave enough in this Age of Lost Omens, receive a Harrowing. The horizon beckons us ever onward - we will not be here tomorrow, for we are Varisians, and the road is our home.

    Welcome back to Varisia!

Some of you may remember this little fan project called Wayfinder (if you aren't, go get yourself acquainted). It is now time for the FIFTH issue of Wayfinder! A little change up this time around...Lilith is passing the baton, so it is looking like I will be stepping in to help steer this project this time around. (Desna help us...) So, let's review the rules and guidelines for submitting to the fanzine:

    Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Chronicles world of Golarion.

    Types of Submissions
    Regular Columns

    • Advice: Have some advice you want to pass on to new GMs or players to the world of Golarion? Share them!
    • Bestiary: New creatures to terrorize your PCs with!
    • Prestigious: This article is devoted to a new prestige class for the world of Golarion! In the past, we have included such classes as the dawa defender, dawnflower dervish of Sarenrae, the gunslinger, wave rider of Absalom and the witch warden.
    • Realm Building: The Kingmaker Adventure Path introduced a lot of new goodies for building armies, cities and kingdoms. This column is focused on building upon those rules.
    • Side Treks: Set in a particular region of Golarion, Side Treks will feature short outlines for a sidetrek adventure. Please reference earlier Wayfinders for the layout for this article. For Wayfinder #5, these regions are Ustalav and Varisia. One sidetrek outline per submission for this column. Submission size: 325 words.
    • Tales from the Front: Fiction articles based on any of Paizo’s adventure modules or paths.
    • Taste of Golarion: We're continuing collections for The Golarion Cookbook! One recipe per submission for this column.
    • Weal or Woe? Two NPCs (including statblocks), one helpful, one not so much. Include hooks for the PCs to know (or hate) this NPC and how to use them in a campaign. Include a boon (Weal) and drawback (Woe) for the NPCs in your article.

In addition to our regular columns, Wayfinder #5 will be focusing on Varisia and the surrounding regions of the Hold of Belkzen and Ustalav. Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference (as well as that handy-dandy PathfinderWiki)! In the case of a plethora of articles on similar subjects, preference will be given to articles that follow this theme. As always, crunch, fiction and flavor articles are welcome!

    Guidelines

    • Thou shalt not disregard canon, thou shalt build upon it.
    • Keep in mind thy audience. No slash fic/porn fantasies, cheesecake/beefcake/fan service - keep it PG-13.
    • Short and sweet. Unless otherwise specified, article sizes are 750 and 1500 words. Anything over 1500 words will have to be pre-approved by me.
    • Submissions used to defame, harass or threaten board members are not tolerated.

    Submission Instructions

    • Conditions for Submissions. All authors and artists must agree to have their works reproduced for other Wayfinder products, be it for translations into other languages, special publications, or use on a Wayfinder website. (We will be responsible for the truthfulness of the translations). All of Wayfinder’s publications are NON-PROFIT, and authors and artists will be given proper credit where due.
    • Send all submissions to me via email with the subject line "Wayfinder #5". My email is listed in my profile.
    • All text submissions submitted in DOC format (doesn't matter if you use Office or OpenOffice). Do not use fancy fonts or colors - these will get stripped out in the editing and layout process. Use the standard body font for the program you're using - bold and italics are fine. Note: Files sent in RTF, TXT, DOCX, or any other format than DOC will be rejected.
    • Include your name and board name in your submission - example, "Liz 'Lilith' Courts". Your entries will go through editing passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback on the editing process and your script.
    • DEADLINE: April 12th (printing deadline waits for no one, and is cold, heartless, and unfeeling). All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Some articles may be rejected depending on the final size of the PDF.

    Advertising

    • Fan projects operating under Paizo’s Community Use Policy are welcome to advertise their websites and materials.
    • Third party publishers wishing to advertise their Pathfinder Roleplaying Game-compatible projects in Wayfinder #5 are welcome to advertise as well. Space is available for 1/4, 1/2 and full page ads.
    • Email me for questions about pricing. Email is in my profile - be sure to include "Wayfinder #5 Advertising" in your subject line.
    • DEADLINE: April 12th.

A PDF copy will be available for free here at Paizo.com.

I’m looking forward to everybody’s entries. Now everybody put on their kapenia, ready their starknife (or klar) and let's head back to Varisia!

The question was posed in another thread if I should be getting a head count of those planning on attending.....

    The answer: YES!!!!

Please sound off here, with the fact you will be attending, AND if you are representing more than yourself, how many.

If you are counting more than yourself, just make sure that those people don't come on here and post that they are attending as well. That'll inflate the numbers REAL fast.

    SO, SOUND OFF!!

I just started up a Kingmaker game, and was a bit worried out how I was going to run the game with NO minis whatsoever. I love painting minis, but can't afford to go out and buy several 100 minis, and then paint them. And certainly not when my game was in TWO days.

So, I came up with a cheap alternative to buying tons of miniatures. I told some friends, made a post on Facebook showing how I did it, and got a really positive response. So, I reposted to my Livejournal page, to share with the larger community.

    Non-Facebook Post is here

I hope this idea helps other, like-minded gamers.

Let me know what you think!

So, I recall that there once were some inquiries on what folks should do with spouses with kids not gaming at PaizoCon?

My wife has offered to meet such people at a local venue for a Saturday. This could be:

    Woodland Park Zoo
    Seattle Aquarium
Seattle Center (which has the Children's Museum and the Pacific Science Center)

Anyone interested? Post here, and we can start a discussion!

    Just a note to everyone...

I finally made my room reservation, and found out that pretty much all the rooms were booked for Saturday night. They had a few left outside of the Paizocon block, and I ended up getting one of the remaining townhome suites.

So, if you've delayed to the last day, keep that in mind. You may need to get a room in a neighboring hotel.

    Hey everyone!

This being the 3rd Annual PaizoCon, we need to have the 3rd Annual Meet and Eat, as well!

The Meet and Eat is a pre-PaizoCon gathering, where folks coming in from out of town, as well as us locals, all descend on an area restaurant, eat some dinner, and get to know each other. This way, when you show up for PaizoCon, you've already got some friends!

We have it on the Thursday evening before PaizoCon, starting around 6 pm or so. The present choice so far is The Crab Pot in Bellevue (it was GREAT last year!).

Every year so far, we've managed to get 20-25% of the Con attendees to show up for the Meet and Eat. And since this year we have a cap of 500, we could get...(ulp!) 100 people??? Yikes!

I don't want to depend on that as my sole estimate, though. SO!

If you are attending PaizoCon, and are planning to attend the Meet and Eat as well, please post here that you are coming, and how many of you are coming.

So, once again I'm the track leader for the gaming panels at Norwescon. Norwescon 33 is coming up on Easter weekend, April 1-4, 2010. I set the lofty goal of getting Pros in the gaming industry on my panels, and I'm doing pretty well with that...several of the Paizo folks, WotC folks, Green Ronin, and quite a few other game companies in the Seattle-area attended. And it looks like we will have a great group of Pros again this year!

I have a lot of good panel topics...thanks in part to the post I made here last year, I had a list of 38 topics that I used to establish my 26 panels for Norwescon 32. However, I really don't want a replay of last year. So, I need more IDEAS for gaming panel topics.

My first step: ask my Pros. Done. And I'm getting some great ideas.

Second step: ask a bunch of gamers what they'd want to have for panels if they were to attend the Con. And, I hope many of you will attend.

So, this is the 2nd step....hit me with your ideas/requests!

    Fire away!!
