Bye Conall…

Hope your health issues improve RJ

No problems DM. And thanks for letting us know... Hope it sorts itself out in its own time - no pressure from me - I'm just happy you took the time to give us a heads up...

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Alarmed by the turn of events, Tanque drops into a defensive crouch, ready to leap up off the floor and defend himself from the roof if the floating platform crashes upwards.

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque continues to hold his own counsel.

What is the grim guy gabbling on about? Magic? Weird!

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Well, from a roleplay point of view it must be frustrating Alynthar. I understand.

I can't wait to see Tanque's reaction either, or (just saying) when he finds out Charlie has glowing ink...

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque breathes a sigh of relief as Conall volunteers again.

I am not cutting myself for no reason. These…people… are mad….

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque neglects to offer himself up for donating any blood...

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque thinks to himself how the littlest thing can make a huge impact...

Like being hunted by a Returned, only, the Returned is your own brother.

He shakes himself to attention, and grips his axe tight.

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque nods.

"I'm with Shield. My gear is pretty good, unless you could Mana up a spitter… "

The young man smiles nervously.

"Let's go kill…reaktivaight... some Subrooteens!"

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

No idea. At least I think it is. Or it was when I tried to get it from my iPhone a while back. You could check to see if it now available for iOS…

Alynthar - Wayfinder is an Android-only app that makes posting from an Android not a pain in the arras. I think it has some neat formatting fields for auto-formatting dice rolls/checks etc…

Tanque stands around trying not to feel overwhelmed by this admittedly gloomy place…

"Reya - was your creator…human? Like me? Did he have any family? Children?"

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque simply stares in disbelief as Alynthar's rope does…magic. His efforts are somewhat impaired by his wonder, but he pulls along with the rest of this strange crew.

And stares again as Conall lifts the crucible by himself.

He follows on taking rearguard while Conall is engaged.

What is with these people?.

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

"Legitimate" is for the GM to decide. All this is for naught. ;P

I'd let it fly, and tie. But I'm a card carrying handwaver since the 80's...

Don't be so hard on yourself, no matter how you think that is a true representation of your existence Alynthar.

You could always GM a game of your own...

Site to host games - some are still tabletop, other are PbP.

Obsidian Portal

What old guy?

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

That is the nature of PbP's Anynthar.

I do the majority of my posting from my smartphone, but I also tend to sleep (I know, right!) and work, mostly nightshift. Which screws with my diurnal patterns. And I'm in Australia, which makes things even more gleeful.

You can always find other games to play as well as this one. Look around for games on Obsidian Portal, or find games specifying that they are played over Skype, or Roll20.

Alynthar42 wrote:
I suppose that's valid. I just tend to be a fairly aggressive player.

That's cool. I do however differentiate between an aggressive player and an aggressive character.

If you are always pushing to have combat and action as a player, then there will be problems.

I play a lot of….foolhardy/brave melee characters, who go toe to toe with foes, even when not martials.

Tanque is not one of those. To be honest, it's slightly frustrating, but true to his backstory.

Alynthar42 wrote:
And I know that, about the abilities, I just really want to start raising the dead.

Understood. And I know it can be frustrating. If Tanque dies, by all means raise him. Just don't expedite it. :)

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

@Alynthar.

Moving to an attack position is useful if there is combat. So far, Initiative has been rolled, but much seems to be happening outside or before that, so that up until I flashed them or -you- shot at them, these critters are merely inhabitants, not bogeys.

Tanque sees three possible enemies. He has moved next to Shield to block the passageway - which anyone else can move through if they desire...

Now it is true he and Shield are in a position to be swamped across the face of the passageway, but being a guerrilla fighter, Tanque is a:) not sure these critters are aggressive, and b:) not willing to move into undefined, possibly dangerous space to be flanked or surrounded. Let them come to us, where we are nominally safe.

* Re: your abilities. You are much more than your magic or special abilities. Part of the challenge of this game is to try to work with what you have, not focus on what you do not yet.

I do, but I'm also asleep when you guys are posting.

Tanque steps up next to Shield in the corridor and switches on his lightstick to illuminate the creatures.

Likely sending them into a crazed frenzy of flesh-tearing, rabid gem-implanting terror…

"Woah. They look dangerous... and then "and kinda disgusting. Poor lil dudes. I guess if they get aggressive we'll have to mash them…"

I moved my avatar - hope that's ok.

By the way, I was reviewing the gameplay, and noticed that Charlie seemed oblivious to the concept of necromancy. Does she not know what it is? Or am I misinterpreting something?

Tanque's world has no necromancy either. No magic to speak of. Psychic/psionic abilities exist, but are not widespread nor understood as extant per se. Some folk can just.... do stuff.

Captured psychically talented "subjects" were very valuable to the invading aliens (the Darrein), who studied them and operated on them....almost always resulting in death or madness.

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque's face screws up in concentration.

"What, we have to bleed our way through all these doors? We'll be dead before we get halfway to our goal...Maybe."

The young man looks to his companions.

"You sure Reya is on the up and up?"

Tanque sighs, and lowers his greataxe a moment.

"Alynthar. That paperstuff you got - what if we put blood on that, and then just pressed it on the glowpanels? Might work for a little while, and save on the redstuff... Or black, in Conall's case." Tanque finishes with a half-smile to Conall.

Seeing as rearguard is taken, Tanque would want to be on point or second. Plenty of time for Charlie to move up if and when we need her.

So 2nd suits me.

Tanque follows after Shield, bardiche wavering back and forth as he grips his greataxe.

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque steps to the edge of the platform, stows his greataxe, and also looks to see what there is to see. He brings his bardiche to bear, and looks to the others to see what they think.

I'm sorry for lack of posts. I'm here, and enjoying playing a fish out of water. Mostly Tanque watches and tries to learn, and hungers for technology equipment, having been on the receiving end of it his whole life...

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

The more events transpire the more Tanque relaxes. This is most definitely not some kind of Darrein construction or ruse. But Tanque remains less and less sure of himself or what actually is going on.

He flashes his lightstick down the deep shaft, then notices the others actions.

Why are they cutting themselves and smearing their blood on the machine panels. Even the Darrein never did that...

Likewise he is unsure of the significance, dire or otherwise of black blood, nor what neckrohmansee is.

"Why are we all standing on this small platform?" he asks Shield quietly once they are assembled upon it. When the platform drops the young warrior grips his axe tightly...

"Oh..."

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Ok I checked the Technological items section and bought:

Flashlight 30 gp
Goo tubes x2 12 gp
Zipstick 20 gp.

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque tries to keep up with the young woman's comments or the discussions of Angels, orcs, Humvees and is completely at a loss when Reya explains the rune-blood system. He decides he is better off watching and learning, much like his people did when the Darrein invaded.

He explains to the strange avatar-woman what he needs, and upon receiving the apparent facsimilies changes out of his strange grey tunic and dons his strange scale armor that looks to have been ripped from some sort of bio-mechanical monster and similarly fashioned weapons - a businesslike great axe, rather formidable looking bardiche and (again, vaguely biomech-organically styled, perhaps from the ocular components) throwing rings. Finally he straps on his pack and bedroll. If only he had a dazzler-arm, jagger or stun-probe. The small lighttube, foodpacks and shocknub would have to do.

Going to check the Tech rules on d20PFSRD to see if Tanque can afford any scraps of tech - the two items mentioned above are the names of equipment bodychop-scavenged from defeated Darrein and kitbashed to suit humanoid physique and opposable thumbs.

When Shield speaks Tanque recognises the mien of a captain or leader. His brother had led Raiders, before he was taken.

"Well met Shield, Alynthar, Charlie, Conall. Ah....I am Tanque...as I....already said. I'm a warrior. Mostly I hit things...and run away to live before I am killed. Generally in the forest, though sometimes in the .... scorchlands. Though I guess that doesn't mean... much... to ay of you." The young man looks to each of the assembled with an open countenance, and shyly shrugs and half smile. He steps back, as if his introduction were the most taxing public speaking he has ever attempted.

We are still missing nostrusUK? The same poster was selected in another PbP I am now in, but has not posted there yet.

Will send PM...

Either they are all as mad as I, or they are figments of the Darrein.... Mayhap this is all... truly real.

Tanque listened, learning quickly. He was not on his world, and the Darrein were...not here. He was...safe. For the moment.

He smiles at the positive insistence of the brutish looking creature. Tanque nods and turns to the golden figure.

"But....Angel...of the First [here looks at Connal for reassurance] - what is your name?"

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque blinks as he takes in this information. Most of which he acks the knowledge to comprehend.

Is this a trick of the Darrein? If so, better to play along...

"What do we hail you? I am Tatu - though you can call me Tanque. I am...was.... a warrior. My... Flair... had failed, and I was about to be eaten by a great beast. Where is it now? Where am I? And if I am to undertake this...these manifold tasks - how will I accomplish them? I need to...I do not know how to say...uhm... I need to Lock and Load. Gear?

Although ostensibly medieval-tech, Tanque's people were somewhat advanced by the predation of and subsquent scavenging from the Darrein.

Human Fighter 1; HP 13/13; AC 18 || T 12 || FF 16; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +4; Per +3; CMB 3; CMD 14; Spd 20 ft.

Tanque closed his eyes as the malevolent creature's maw closed in, not wishing to see any more....

And then...nothing.

For a long time? A short time? He did not know. He woke here in this place, with... the voice calling him.

Ascender?

So he had been chosen by the Darrein to be a Returner. And this was their sky-fortress?

He checked his body. He wore nothing except the strange raiment made of some unknown material and fashioned by some arcane method.

No choice I guess.

He called out:

"Syethsya kantal pikaya? Nahv to Darrein doorun?"

But there was no reply. He proceeded as the voice instructed.

Tanque is here.

As detailed in his background, Tanque's last memories/thoughts regarded his imminent demise at the teeth of a demented bio-mechanical alien monstrosity known as a Darrein that had heretofore been part of a failed invasion of his homeworld which had nonetheless decimated his people.

Good times. ;)

Thanks for the heads up RJ.

@Alynthar - finally! Good to see you get into a game...

My interest in your world does not directly affect the picking process, it doesn't hurt anything, but i'll be building plenty of worlds later anyway, if you can't or don't want to come up with something right now i'll work with you later.

@RJ - is this a general comment to all applicants? That's how I took it, not as specific to me... :)

@RJ the DM - Ok, understood. By all means hit me with a PM when necessary to discuss Tanque's world.

I changed his avatar as well - the mark on his brow indicates he killed a Darrein. Though truth be told it was in concert with a score others of his people. He merely dealt the killing blow.

Ok, Tanque's backstory written.

Tanque's Tale:
When the orbs fell the sun stank and the wind burned your heart. Only the love of your closest kept you going as the terrors roamed. Sleek pulsing black marauders with an inscrutable mien and a penchant for horrific execution or indiscriminate torture.

What had been a pleasant verdant world was changed overnight by the arrival of the beings only known as the Darrein. Bio-mechanical monstrosities that could phase between realities and twist your mind with a glance. Tanque's people were decimated in mere months, and after that led a subterranean life of scrape and harrowed existence. Though war, ambush and battle were not foreign to them, the human folk accelerated their own aggressive and martial traditions to combat this implacable and it seems, insurmountable foe.

The Darrein took many they did not kill and returned them to root out their former friends and communities - augmented shells without much in the way of mind or intellect - beasts of pure instinct and feral acumen.

Tanque's brother was one such Returned - he still has nightmares of running from his slavering family member, and the iron bar a friend used to dash his brother's brains and circuitry out against a cavern wall.

And then, after only a few decades, the Darrein suddenly and mysteriously disappeared, leaving many that, having succumbed to some kind of maddening malady, wandered aimlessly through a blasted, wasted landscape now inhabited by a bereft people.

The last thing Tanque remembers is being stalked by one of these "lost Darrein" in a marshy region not far from his home village. He had foolishly let himself be cornered in a sedge, and surprised, was picked up and about to be eviscerated but the multi-limbed monstrosity when….he blacked out, and awoke in the chamber with the red-haired man.

Tanque is possessed of an abundant curiosity, and a wisdom gained from an upbringing watching people and their decisions. Despite his horrific experience with the Darrein and the Returned Tanque is friendly and prepossessing, though he can be inwardly cautious in his dealing with strangers. His heart is kind and his mind clear.

RJ the DM wrote:
You don't have to have a crazy world, you're going to a pretty crazy place, I just want to give the players the option to make up some cool stuff.

Which is why I want to give Tanque that opportunity. Golarion is...not my cup of tea. The Runed Citadel however is intriguing due to being unknown, and I have some idea for Tanque's world that will give him something to draw on while...gone.

Ok, here is OSW's submission - Tatu "Tanque" Skarskind. Human Fighter. :)

He was unsuccessful in getting into another PbP a while back. I've retooled him from 15 to 25 point buy.

He *currently* has a simple Golarion backstory as the PbP he was initially created for was set there, without the *yoink* from almost dying you require. I'll rewrite something from a completely different world...

Play well folks.

Tomorrow night, give plenty time for a good few to throw themselves into the hat. Thank you for asking, still learning, hehe.

No problems. I'm not sure I've ever seen the PbP GM draw the applicants randomly, but it does kind of make sense. Sandpoint is probably just as likely to see Tanque wandering in as any of the other characters...

Good luck all!

MatsuKeiji, sorry if I missed this - when are you thinking of closing recrutment?

@MatsuKeiji: Presenting Tatu "Tanque" Skarskind. He needs updating to 20-point buy.

I've always been interested in the classic nature of Rise of the Runelords, and Tanque is a roleplay-heavy Fighter. Let me know what you think...

Have fun all.

Those are good parameters and considerations for us GM, and I appreciate the non-standard approach to XP rewards.

Looking forward to finding out the final party composition.

I have no problems with Antipaladins or evil characters.
