I'm kind of at a loss: I bought Alien Archive at Barnes and Noble and it's straight up missing pages 9-24. They didn't fall out, and they aren't torn out. The missing pages just look like they weren't included when the book was bound. I don't have my receipt to take it back as I bought it shortly after the book hit shelves. Is there anything I can do? I can take pictures of the book if that helps.
My concern is that I want the full gamit of Tieflings and Aasimar, not to mention the elemental races too. The generic versions don't really do it for me. I agree that the resistances are very strong. Completely axing them is questionable, but I'm not sure I know what would work better. One more point to make: if your Aasimar get +2 to any stat, so should your Tieflings. Considering the extra large variety of Tieflings in the setting, I'd say it's not a crazy change to give them +2 to anything and no negative.

Thanks, I'm halting my TPP project until I see Starfinder and this is very encouraging. It will be more work than using pathfinder, but I think the system will be much more accessible if they only have to purchase my setting book and Starfinder Core Rulebook to play my setting, as opposed to Pathfinder, where I would be expected to find a place for most of the bloat Pathfinder has accumulated.

I hope I'm not out of line sharing this here, but living with three trans people for the past two years has really opened my eyes to the almost constant struggle that you all have to go through. For what it's worth, from a straight white dude, I wish you all the greatest blessings and providences. You are all heroes, and I'm proud to stand with you now, and in the future. Evil characters? Is there going to be an official Evil AP? If so, where was I when that news dropped?
The only problem I have is that Draconic Eidolons are impossible with the Unchained summoner, as are Lovecraftian horrors. My campaigns will allow the Unchained Summoner, and if someone wants to make a Draconic or Lovecraftian Eidolon, they'll be allowed to use the old Eidolon instead. Oh! And What about Sarkorian God-Callers? They are cannon Summoners, and none of the descriptions of their Eidolons fit with the Unchained Summoner...

My question was mostly rhetorical, but since it affirms my own thoughts on the matter, I'll agree and let this topic slide. I was mostly curious about this because I lost about a third of my Pathfinder books in a complex move-related incident due to health emergencies and poor planning in said move due to hospitalization. Needless to say, rebuilding that bookshelf is getting expensive. I've been purchasing the PDFs because they're cheaper, but I dunno. Call me old-school, but I like the feel of a tome in my lap. *shrugs*

Fair enough, fair enough. But it doesn't explain why it's linked as a player resource, nor does it account for the splat books and non-core books that are not included in the PRD.
Michael Brock wrote: Only currebtly allowed options are available to be retrained into. Since assimar is not a current legal option, it is not available. Thanks, Mike. I figured that was the answer I was looking at, and that I'd have to nab the pdf (since the print version is inconceivably hard to find at a reasonable price) but it's good to get some confirmation.
Serious question: I recognise the cost-to-play/cost-to-run ideals, and that's fine since PDFs are cheap. That said, the PRD IS on the Player's Resources page. If this is true, why wouldn't I be allowed to reference the PRD when creating a character/siting a sources for a feat/spell/rule/etc? Seems kind of backwards if you ask me.
So, due to some medical emergencies and potentially life-threatening conditions, I was unable to play for basically all of last year. towards the beginning I had made a tiefling character. They are at 2/3 xp. If I were to retrain this character, would they have to be retrained according to current season retraining rules, or would I be allowed to retrain them using the available races from the season they were created under? It's a little vague in the places I've read about this. Primarily, I'd like to retrain them to Aasimar since in the midst of the medical problems I also lost a lot of my Pathfinder books so I couldn't actually play the tiefling bloodline I had chosen due to not owning Blood of Fiends anymore; I still possess Blood of Angels though. Thanks for the answers in advance, I'm hoping to get back into the thick of things. -TP

So... it's probably super late that I'm arriving to this particular party... but I had no idea that my character had been selected until this morning when a friend asked me if something I'd done had gotten published in a Pathfinder Comic. I was all like "Well, maybe. Let me do a quick search." Then BLAM! I find this post. I'm beyond words. I have the City of Secrets comics held for me at my local comic store, but I hadn't picked them up yet (I like reading them all at once, basically). Thank you so much for considering me and thank you so much for including Aeldren in your world! I'm going to rush out and nab these from the comic shop ASAP. Thank you so much! `Michael Brothers
I have houseruled Rogues (and ninjas) to gain a precision bonus to damage equal to the number of sneak attack dice on hits against sneak-able targets. I have also houseruled the addition of "Advantage" and "Disadvantage" from 5e into Pathfinder, and made it so that sneak attacks are possible against enemies who are disadvantaged. "Disadvantage" is basically a simple status condition that says the creature rolls 2d20 and takes the lower roll whenever they take an action that requires a d20 roll. "Advantage" is the opposite. I've changed a couple rogue talents to give Advantage to the rogue, or disadvantage to the rogue's enemies, depending on how the talent works, and made certain other mechanics incorporate Advantage and Disadvantage. (You have advantage attacking a prone creature with a melee attack, or disadvantage when attacking the same creature with a ranged attack, etc.) Mainly, these bonuses have given my rogues a little extra boost in combat effectiveness. Damage isn't the main problem for rogues, I know, but increasing the chances to do that sneak damage are things I'm all for, which is why the Scout Archetype is so awesome to me. About the to-hit problem... I don't have a good solution. If you're the GM, make sure the rogue's the first one to get a masterwork or +1 weapon. Especially if they use something like a dagger or a short sword as their primary, as it will be pretty low-risk. If they use a Scimitar or Kukri, that's fine too, just realize that their higher crit range will be twice as good with a +1 weapon.
I've seen enough hentai to know where this thread is headed... And I approve! That being said, the Vestigial discoveries are quite "meh". They should do more, but since they don't, I'd stay away. Obviously disregard if it's a character concept that needs it, but I'd find it a little underpowered TBH.
This thread started when I wanted to know what Carbauxine Gas is. So, here are some questions about these things. 1. What is Carbauxine Gas? 2. What is the geological composition of Golarion?
3. What is Golarion's size/radius/volume/mass in relation to the Earth's. 4. What is the gravitational force on Golarion? 5. How do immovable rods have a frame of reference? I'm not looking for "Magic, you dope!" kinds of answers, I'm looking for things that make sense. Inasmuch as they can, Paizo seems to try pretty hard to simulate reality, and they've done a fairly good job despite the fantasy nature of their game. I just am curious about certain scientific principles in relation to Golarion's descriptions. Trying to make sense of things, etc.
While Mass Effect's Geth are very different than our Pathfinder Androids, I do think that some of them, the ones who know they are not completely organic, might think or act like they do. Especially considering the Nanites are a part of their body: if they are so intimate to the Android condition, is it possible that they are less of an "external" object and more of a part of their very being. Having millions of nano-sized computers running around inside you may change how you relate to concepts like identity and the "self". My android in Iron Gods will have emotions: They wont be strong, and they may not even be relatable to other humanoids. But He has two points where I am going to be more than emotive: His desire to know why he was created, and his constant frustration at the other humanoid's peculiarities. He'll also refer to himself in ways the other party members wouldn't relate to. I'm thinking he does not consider his body anything more than a "borrowed form inspired by dominant species" an object. If his left leg was crushed, he would refer to it as "leftside primary ambulatory module". He would refer to his spellcasting as "onboard magical energy manipulators" and would refer to specific spells like Magic Missile as "Pinpoint magical offensive physics application" I'm going to have so much fun playing my Android, and again, all the advice above by others is good stuff, but talk it over with your GM to really make this character "pop". There's too much flavor to play with, and I'm sure you could make 10 different androids and have them be completely different persons.
@ Votishal: I know, I was thinking the same thing. Okay, so I'll have to do some work. No biggy, just a little disappointing. Sarenrae is actually in my top 5 for the Golarion pantheon, so I was hoping there'd be some more. Probably a +2 flaming burst scimitar for her melee, and then I've got to work on a Bow and two more things. Basically, all the desnan artifacts get the rework. Hmmm.
Not to perform dire rites of thread necromancy, but for an entirely unrelated reason, I'm reworking Arue to be worshipping Sarenrae. I think it fits far better to the themes of the AP, and since I'm decoupling the campaign traits from their paths, my wizard is the one with the link to Arue. I have a few questions though, which is the reason behind the thread necromancy. There's not exactly a lot of Magic Items (at least as far as I know) that are linked to Sarenrae. Does ISG have specific magic items linked to Sarenrae? Or is there another eldritch tome containing these relics? Or do I need to do that work on my own?
I've already sent Light a message regarding this, but I was unaware at how quickly my turn was going to come up. I thought I'd asked to be placed further down the list, but maybe I didn't, I don't remember. Point is, you can feel free to move on from my concept, and I'll re-suggest it later when I've had time to actually put more than a theoretical effort into it. Prepping for a complex AP (WotR) and writing a full on module basically for 2nd level characters is completely occupying my time. I apologize for any inconvenience/disappointment, and I will continue to follow this thread and post in it when I have relevant feedback (for example how the Summoner/Samurai works out in play). You guys rock, and I just don't want to half-ass something I'm genuinely excited about contributing to your awesome material. Arigatou Gozaimasu! `Tabletop Prophet

Thank you both! This is good info, and since I was planning on nabbing PotS and Tech Guide, I should be fine. My GM is pretty excited about the idea of having an Android in this path, and I'm excited about the character too. Especially if there's a tech-based class or archetype in the Tech guide.
Thanks Zeqiel and Tangent101! I'm gonna check Magnuskn's thread out, I don't know if I've actually looked into it. I'm going to keep your ideas on the table, and to answer rknop: They're okay with things changing. I have yet to ask them to consider de-optimizing themselves, but I think they're good enough for it.
I don't think I posted anything other than snark, so I'm not sure why people are quoting me as such...? Also, is this looking to become an actual playable mechanic, or a layer of delicious flavour on top of the existing systems? Because this is pretty complex for a brand-new system, but I'm always down for re-skinning the existing system as something else. Another reason I'm interested in this is my Iron God's character is going to be an Android Spellslinger who's magic is "re-skinned" as tech systems, and the flavour of this whole thread coincides nicely with that character's theme.
Elghinn Lightbringer wrote: You're in the queue TP! Thanks! So some of the ideas I had, if they help: Just thought it would help y'all out if you knew kinda what I was thinking when I had the idea. Again, totally willing to help write things, but I'm bad at the syntax Paizo uses for these sorts of things.
Seriously though, I'm going to be running this in about a month, and while I appreciate the "heads up" this thread has been... I refuse to let it beat me. I'm going to run it, and I've let my PCs know that they are on board for an experimental system, because while I doubt I'll have another campaign get to 10th tier or anywhere close, I want to make this work. Rather than a thread where we constantly harp on how broken the AP is, or how so-and-so's party had to quit in book 3, let's figure out a way to make this thing work: It's got to be epic, I understand, but let's not forget that we have options. Figuring out what the best options are: That should be the objective here. So far, I've seen a few suggestions that seem feasible: [list]
What I want to know is what of these options works? My party is 15 point buy. I'm planning on buffing encounters and adding elements to existing ones that will make them more strategically complex. But I do those things in every campaign I run, AP or no.

If you don't mind, Mr. Voice of the Divine, may I submit a query? I am longing to know if the ecology article will include things like feats, archetypes, etc. for androids, or if another book/adventure will include these things? Another, if you do not mind; Are androids a good fit for the AP, or will they be kind of like playing a goblin in RotRL? (Doable, yes, but not advised) If you cannot answer, that is acceptable, I will just wait and see, but knowing sooner would scratch an insatiable itch. |
