I think you are asking about my post about Jezebel's pit. Sutoku moved up, taking the attack, so that the large enemy would either have to move away and provoke from me, OR stand his ground and end his turn adjacent to the pit. That pit is active and if you end your turn next to you you have to save again or fall in. You do get +2 to the save.

So if the BBEG failed its reflex save it would not have been there for Sutoku to crit.

Thanks for running! And sorry to steal the final battle away. Second time that has happened. Sutoku critted the BBEG in Quest for Perfection III, one shotting the cavalier with a flaming burst. That flame spell becomes Flaming Burst IF the inquisitor has a judgement up, which Sutoku had not had the chance to cast yet.

In case anyone is interested, with a con of 10 and no shield, the Tengu is very much a glass cannon. A 21 AC and 45 hit points does not impress too many things at 7th level.

Choosing the blessing of an extra attack, the Tengu uses his swift action to activate his greater bane against humans and full attacks the grappler (or whoever the enemy is with the red dot) with hss 10 foot reach, using power attack for both attacks. The grappler should loose some AC to Sutoku if he is grappling Riley, right?

This is complicated, so let me break it down. Sutoku is enlarged so strength bonus to hit is offset exactly by size penalty to hit. He gets +2 to hit from his bane ability. For damage he is now large so 1) the base damage for the Nodachi increases from 1d10 to 2d8, and 2) his strength increases from 20 to 22, making his strength damage with a two handed weapon go from +7 to +9 (+6 and half again for using it two handed). Its a +1 weapon, so +10. +6 is from Power Attack. It is flaming from the spell he cast last round so that is the 1d6 (flaming). And the Greater Bane from his Bane Baldric adds 4d6 against humans.

His blade a blur, he slices both opponents before him, opening them with his keen Nodachi.

Nodachi: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 12 + 2 = 342d8 + 10 + 6 + 1d6 + 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 10 + 6 + (6) + (4, 5, 4, 5) = 42

Confirming the threat

When the Samurai end his turn adjacent to the pit (cleverly arranged by Sutoku - he had to either provoke from me or end next to the pit :) ) he has to make an other save, at +2, or fall into the pit. Also, what do the red dots mean? Do they designate the two in the grapple?

Correct, Sutoku ignores the first 20 points of fire damage at the moment. Oh, I can support multiple mosts a day easily through this combat if everyone else can. Lets roll :)

Sutoku eyes the large warrior but seems more worried about the grappler.
He casts Flames of the faithful on his weapon and as he steps forward 5' he calls upon the power of his growth domain to both enlarge (Swift ACtion) himself to the size of the man he faces and to cause brambles to sprout from between his feathers (Bramble Armor - Free Action).

Sutoku now stands toe to toe with the large warrior and holds a flaming reach weapon while thorns protrude form his flesh. Bramble Armor means anyone attacking me with melee or natural weapons or grappling me take 1d6+3 damage.

So where is the pit? It becomes terrain now and ending a turn within 5' of the edge can land you in the pit. I'd assume the pit is where you showed the 10' person, so the better question is where is the 10' guy now? I also need to know if all three of the enemy are human.

Was waiting on an answer to my question above, but will assume I can make it to an enemy then. Any enemy will do, but he would prefer the poisoner.

Try to put out the fires the avian says as he move to engage the poisoner, moving into a flanking position if possible.

Dodging the worst of the splash, Sutoku risks a quick look back to make sure Jezebel is still standing then steps forward to put an end to the bomber swinging his strange weapon in a powerful stroke. Put yourself out and then this room. he recommends. I shall deal with this one.

Stay behind me soft one. Sutoku encourages as he ruffles his feathers to look larger - at the same time looking more menacing and proving a little more cover.

Not sure where all the enemies are. With no fire unstairs, (right?) Sutoku will descent and if he sees enemies before he encounters fire he will engage them. Else he will fight fire again.

The fire out behind him Sutoku rapidly descends the stairs and engages the first enemy he encounters, power attacking with the keen blade.

Sutoku, resistant to fire, moves in and tries to fight the blaze if its at all possible. Call on me if you need help repelling the bandits. he says.

Not sure what mechanic is used to fight the fire.

Sutoku had posted that he was moving to fight the fire so should not be in A7 anymore. I suspect it would be a double move to get to A5, which is the closet fire to him I believe.

Just seems wrong that a fire can spread so fast in one round. I would think it would start in one square and spread to some of the adjacent ones. It seems like it went from a small fire to engulfing the entire room and the room below it in a single round. What am I missing? If its spreading so fast I would guess there is no practical way to fight it, right?

Wait. Last round the arrows were shot, Sutoku was grappled and the officer was killed. This next round the fire has already spread, consumes the room and burned through to the first floor? That was less than 6 seconds and before anyone has has a chance to fight the flames. The round after Sutoku was grappled he was moving to fight the fire. We have no chance to fight it before it spreads?

Accepting the hand up the Tengu thanks Jory. My thanks! A well placed shot indeed. While I prefer not to be grappled, I propose we handle it this way as opposed to letting you get grappled. I believe I am a slightly better grappler and have this handy beak to use in close quarters. Perhaps you can better discourage the troops from the north from up here while I deal with the fire. I am resistant to it.

Sutoku was gonna peck the hell out of that guy. :) Did we search/loot the officer from the last battle?

Sutoku already looked for someone with create water. Finding none he led the servants in carrying water to wet he exterior of the house. So the building should at least be wet.

I too am an archer and will stay with Jory. If enemies come to stop his bow I will resort to melee and allow him to continue to shoot.

You are unrepentant, therefore I must strike. The bird-man says in a sing-song voice, almost an apology. He "swiftly" shifts his judgement to Sacred Destruction (+3 Damage) and the 4 feet of steel at the end of his weapon grip, powered by his power attack, sings through the air as it cuts into the man.

I am a little confused here, but I do agree that I am about a round behind. If I can close and attack I will. the grappling enemy should be easier to hit while grappling.

Sutoku moves up the stairs to A7 activating his judgement of Sacred Protection as a swift action as he moves (+2 AC, making his AC 23)_. Double Move?

If able he will take a shot at the flying leader at the end of his move.

Back from my trip- Sorry for my absence. During out prep time Sutoku recommends we wet down the house as best we can to make it harder for the enemy to burn us out. He will enlist the aid of the servants to carry water to wet down the roof and walls, wishing that someone had the create water cantrip.

Before Mistress Li departs he make sure he understands her direction. I a to stay here and guard this house and not stay with you my mistress? As you will. He obeys but is not happy to see her depart without escort.

As the enemy approach he stands in front of Jezebel a the window (in A5) and is ready with his bow to send them arrows. I recommend we do not use the oil this first wave. They test us I think. More will come. And when it comes to melee I do indeed like to be enlarged.

After the others have spoken Sutoku adds My origins are of Xien, so what I know of the gods here are only what I have learned in the short time I have served. He looks strangely at Jory perhaps our of doubt, or out of concern; his avian features are hard to read. I for one have never been asked to do something I felt evil, Nor have I had to turn down a mission. But I suspect that, like any large organization, factions have developed and politics is at play. It is possible that some venture captains act more for their own reasons than that of the society. He pauses before speaking more boldly. But enough of us for now. I would here more of the Kirin if you would tell us.

Is there any chance that Sutoku found something using his Gloves of Reconnaissance? Say that secret door?

Sutoku will activate his Detect Evil inquisitor ability before stepping out of the house and use it to scan both the area and the Kirin as the man closes. Dressed in his best dress armor he will serve as an honor guard for Mistress Li, walking beside her and slightly behind.

Sutoku bows low when introduced to Iko Tsuseno. This one is honored to meed you venerable master. he says formally.

Later at the ceremony Sutoku sits quietly until called upon. When asked about his roll he responds meekly This one is honored to serve the Lantern Lodge with his small gift of swordsmanship. I have served as guard and foot solder and have strived to help the forces of good overcome that of evil in my service to the society. He is tempted to ask of the Kiren, but feels it is not his place to do so at this table.

As Iko Tsuseno speaks Sutoku will sense motive (+13) and use his immediate ability to Discern Lie on specific statements the man makes. He is not particularly suspicious but this is his standard operating procedure as an inquisitor.

Sutoku will spend some time searching the ground floor of the house.

The inquisitor searches the area for tracks before his group tracks it up and confuses things. I know this location was suppose to be a secret but it is always better to be sure.

After searching the area for any tracks Sutoku asks Jezebel to help him check the the north-facing side of the house supported by tall stilts anchored deep into the cliff. If these stilts could be damaged easily the whole house could be dropped off the cliff. He does not have knowledge engineering... He will carefully search the cliff area for tracks as well, worried about this vulnerability.

Finally he will note If we have been provided enough parts to build a catapult, perhaps we should do so.

A tengu in a breastplate of Tien Xai design enters the room, late to the briefing. The lacquered image on the armor shows a ancient cherry tree in full bloom.
