Moving on, was waiting for Sutuko.
Riley ducks down from the light house and spends his turn running away from the officer. Sutuko stands in defiance of the assailants- he also sees several shadows coming up from the cliffs on the north side of the island. It seems that the assault is coming from both sides this time! The energy from Jezebel's wand smashes into another archer.
The officer lands on the light house and moves against Sutoku - Grapple Attempt: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35 and succeeds in wrapping up the Tengu.
The soldiers fire one last volley of burning arrows at the house, the wetted down walls retard most of the damage, however, 1d6 ⇒ 5, Room 5, the front bedroom catches on fire!
The men climbing up the cliff fade from Sutoku's view (but will likely emerge from the area of A3).

I am assuming the 3 of us in A5 cannot see Jory nor Sutoku upstairs in A7.
Fendahl watches Riley come in through the window...calls out in a surprised voice:
"Hrrm, what do you see Master Riley?"
Fendahl will move to the top of the stairs so he can see downstairs as well as into A5. (This causes him to lose visibility of the spirit weapon, so it should return to his side).
As his standard, looking downstairs, if Fendahl can see or hear that assailants are about to enter the lower floor (A5 or A3), he will ready to cast heat metal on them.

Moving on, was waiting for Sutuko.
** spoiler omitted **
Sutoku stands in front of and to the side of Jory, ready to defend the archer and to attack anyone approaching. Readied Action
When he see the movement to the north he will call our a warning. Ware the cliffs to the north. Our enemy comes from that way as well!
As the captain approaches the Tengu takes his readied action, swinging at the man in a powerful downswipe with his enhanced Nodachi, its blade gleaming.

The officer charges the Tengu warrior, ready to crush him with his might. But the agile Inquisitor plants the sharp blade into the man's thigh. It doesn't stop the officer, the man slinging Sutoku to the ground, with a dizzing array of moves. Moments later the man stops as an arrow comes to rest at the base of skull. With a heave Sutoku throws the man off, blood and gore sloping everywhere.
Jezebel and Fendhal can't see any of the assailants on the first floor, but Sutoku's warning alerts them that trouble is coming from the back of the house. Jezebel sees that this room is starting to catch fire, its damp walls giving way to the intensity of the fire.

"I got to help out that time. Thanks for distracting him that time. I know it is a helpless feeling being the bait. They need us at the back, something about a fire."
The dwarf calmly helps Sutoku up and quickly searches the officer.
"I hope he has orders on him."

Accepting the hand up the Tengu thanks Jory. My thanks! A well placed shot indeed. While I prefer not to be grappled, I propose we handle it this way as opposed to letting you get grappled. I believe I am a slightly better grappler and have this handy beak to use in close quarters. Perhaps you can better discourage the troops from the north from up here while I deal with the fire. I am resistant to it.
Sutoku was gonna peck the hell out of that guy. :) Did we search/loot the officer from the last battle?

"FIRE!" the wizard yells at the top of her lungs, gesturing at the fire before running down the stairs.
Run as bonus feat from Fleet Footed alt. racial = move at 5x speed for run, so up to 150'
Jezebel rushes to the kitchen to fetch water to begin dousing the flames. "We need a fire line!"
I think we need our preceptors and ranged on the walls to keep an eye on the enemy, to kill the damn archers, and locate the ones sneaking around back. . . . We should get the non-ranged, non perception types on bucket brigade!

Someone give me an order for Riley. Each "Strangler" has- +1 Brawling Leather Lamellar, Dagger, and Rope.
The people on the second floor can hear people walking around the second floor. The fire in the overlook room (A5), tries to spread [dice]d100[/dice - and does. It consumes the room, the oil and water exploding. Its takes just seconds before the floor gives way and crashes down to the first floor.
PC's go. The NPC's are in A3. FIRE in A5 and A1

"Riley, downstairs! Intruders. Where are those buckets? We have fires on both floors now! Hurry!
I would assume Riley would move downstairs and engage the first soldier he encounters.
Not sure if he can move far enough to get a swing, so if he can, roll it
Fendahl will also move downstairs and try to melee any intruders. He still has cold shield up for 6 rounds if any try to take a swing at him. Likewise, let me know if I can find and reach someone to attack.
Sutoku
|
Wait. Last round the arrows were shot, Sutoku was grappled and the officer was killed. This next round the fire has already spread, consumes the room and burned through to the first floor? That was less than 6 seconds and before anyone has has a chance to fight the flames. The round after Sutoku was grappled he was moving to fight the fire. We have no chance to fight it before it spreads?
Fendahl PFS Pregen

BTW On the map below, I have not updated anyone's position since the arrows were shot and the officer grappled and was slain on the roof of A7. I have added fire to A1 based on GM's description. By my counting it is about 130' from A7 to A5.
DrGabe
|
Each round there is a 25% chance the fire spreads - it doesn't take into account the defensive actions you took (i.e. wetting the walls), that is taken into account elsewhere (as in how many enemies you face). My post earlier got edited the dice roll was erased- I rolled an '18'. You can fight the fire if you like.
Sutoku
|
Just seems wrong that a fire can spread so fast in one round. I would think it would start in one square and spread to some of the adjacent ones. It seems like it went from a small fire to engulfing the entire room and the room below it in a single round. What am I missing? If its spreading so fast I would guess there is no practical way to fight it, right?
DrGabe

I agree the mechanic is goofy, though most room on fire is. You can make a Survival/Knowledge Engineering check to learn more. More importantly, you are focusing on the wrong thing. Your characters of course have no way of knowing this, but focus on the NPC's and don't fret about the fire.

"Nothing to help us right now." Jory says after searching the invader with disappointment in his voice.
Jory seems to be quite impressed with avian creature. His calm demeanor and using violence only when professionally required agree with his own code. They had also made a great team against the brawlers.
He looks at the tengu with a look of profound admiration: "Where to next? I have quiver of these nasty thistly arrows to put in the invaders. Suppressing their fiery arrows may be our best way to fight the spread of fire."
Jory will move to fire on the invaders unless a better idea is presented.

Argh! Life interfereing past few days. Let me see if I've got this basically straight - officer is down, and someone decided to use the fire-spread rules that assume the world is made of a mixture of thermite paint, magnesium, and flash paper again. There are some invaders left outside who might be rushed at? If yes, just send me twoards them - I can't see the maps from here, and won't be at a computer where I can until morning at the earliest.

Both Jezebel and Sutoku realize the same thing about the fire- despite its fast spread, the damage is only cosmetic. The front room is likely gone, but it won't cause significant damage to the house for some time now. Of course, no intruder will come through the front door at this point.
Jory and Sutoku search the officer's body only to find nothing a true value.
Fendahl and Riley rush down the stairs and see four soldiers scampering through the window- they are armed with bottles of explosives and have climbed faster than spiders up the face of the cliff.
Jezebel- the room you are in (A5) is currently on fire, though you can stay in that room, you will catch on fire. You can move if you like

Gotcha Sutoku, thanks.
Jory and Sutoku run down the stairs from the light house and reach the top of the stairs (A5). Jezebel leaves the burning room, the oil starting to smoke and give off noxious fumes and joins Sutoku and Jory at the top of the stairs.
On the main floor Riley charges in towards the assassin, the first nearly takes the head off of the man, but he is able to lean with the blow just well enough to survive the strike and attack back.
