@Fox: My caster level for alchemist is 12 - please notice the feats I took. In terms of mutagen the master chymist prestige class is designed to work to improve on the mutagen levels.

Also, I don’t agree with you rolling the save or suck saves for my character as it takes out all my agency.

The way HeroLab seems to be calculating it, it's considering the +2 from Armor of the Pit as a racial bonus to the Natural Armor of the creature, which I agree it's probably wrong - and it's assuming that Nimble increases the natural armor bonus from the mutagen by 2, instead of granting a 2. The most conservative reading of all of it would mean that it's calculating 4 higher than it should:

No mutagen: 10 + 9 (Armor) + 3 (Dex) + 2 (Deflection) + 1 (Dodge) + 2 (Natural) = 27
Mutated: 10 + 9 (Armor) + 5 (Dex) + 2 (Deflection) + 1 (Dodge) + 6 (Natural) = 33

With Barkskin, these are 5 higher (or 6 higher with Ironskin).

Now, honestly, Nimble should be counted as an increase to the natural armor bonus - the prerequisite for the master chymist prestige class is to have mutagen, which in its most basic form grants already +2 to natural armor... But I don't mind if we want to simply ignore it.

Natural armor bonuses don’t stack unless they say so (like barkskin, which is an increase to existing armor, which is what hero lab is doing (some are enhancement bonus, etc). For example, barkskin and ironskin don’t stack. The others in my list stack accordingly, and the mutagen increases go on top of it. I redid the calculations multiple times too - hero lab is doing it right.

Mr. Heineous doesn't take the tree on the left as a threat - however, the very chaotic monster sees the mysterious lady as such - and flies towards her to pounce and attack again.

He will eat whatever AoOs come against him. I'm not sure if she's flying or standing (or if she can be tripped or not), so I'll roll his trip attempts anyway.

Haha! Of course it would look like it. - said the monstrosity which once was Dr. Roet.

He bumped at the floor with both his fists for moments, as if excitedly commemorating something, then speaks again. The guttural voice actually matches well with the place, and his bat-like wings flap for a brief moment; the spines on the back dance as if they were flexible, and he gestures with the clawed hands.

Heineous care not for where we are, but Heineous is hungry. Puny doctor barely eats... Frail arms and skinny legs. Magic is here, everywhere, but North... North it intensifies. - he pauses briefly - Let's move! There are corpses to put back to resting in the name of the Lady of Graves.

He laughs a little bit, and it feels as if it's constantly regurgitating blood. He isn't a comfortable creature to have around, neither to look at; however, over the years he proved his usefulness and willingness to loyally work towards the party (and the doctor's) goals.

Just a reminder: Right before using the scroll, Dr. Roet will mutate into Mr. Heineous; he will also drink a extract of barkskin. Both last for 2 hours. I think the sorcerer will cast from the scroll and she shouldn't need UMD.

I memorized a Death Ward too from the alchemist list and some others, and can help when needed. I'm fine with the division of these helping items, and if needed Roet can use and help cast them too. From an action economy standpoint, in the usual scenes I'll have quite some other stuff to do! :) Should I memorize infernal healing or something of the sorts for Zed? Maybe even an inflict infusion.

Roet adjusts the glasses as he inspects the staff and scrolls, muttering some hm-hms as he goes. At the end, he helps with the preparations to the travel before they get to the site where they can use the scrolls.

It's a good point - I will switch my spells as well. I'll have it all set before the end of the day. I might change my Fiendish Wrath as well, since it seems we have people giving morale bonus (I was using it mostly for the Rend but it seems like a waste).

I haven't met Kendra, though I worked with her father in the past. - says the alchemist, adjusting his glasses in a thoughtful, almost nostalgic way - Lorrimor thought me a lot, too. Regardless, it's now something of the past. I agree, let's make haste in our preparations and departure.

Right before we effectively use the scrolls, Roet'll buff himself and mutate (to "arrive" as Heineous).

As for feats, I like Outflank, and in a party full of melee I like Broken Wing Gambit as well.

I completely forgot about Boots of the Earth. In my local in-person table, it was houseruled that its effects only work in combat, so most of us stopped buying it - it's truly great though, especially in a party without actual healers.

We will, of course, attend to your quest, Lord Modd. - he finally completed - After all, we are in the business of saving the world. My colleagues questions are appropriate - do you know what route the previous group took? Our mission would be considerably easier if we could rescue them and have them by our side. Or, better yet, swiftly guided through our combined experience.

Gaelan could get Blended View, as an elf, and Aja could get Dimdweller as a Human. However, I kind of like the nonoptimized thing and having to deal with these issues :)

I’ll get Infusion, so I can also create extracts for stuff like cure and restoration spells. I’ll review my list once I get to it.

Despite being an alchemist, Roet is (for at least 6 hours everyday, but even outside of it) a melee character as well - a literal beast with bite, claws, wings and spikes, high AC and element resistances, besides things like pounce and a breath weapon. He will never dish as much damage as some of our peeps here, but still enough to be dangerous. He also acts as a scout and brings trapfinding and good perception/disable device to deal with it.

He had a good chunk of skills and support spells so I hope he can help on this matter too.

The coolest thing is for RP though with his double personality thing - when he mutates, he becomes someone else, including an alignment change. If we were a group before that knew each other, then you guys already know Mr. Heineous. In any case I look forward to the interactions.

It's a good point! Maybe I should replace ability focus with extra discovery and get infusion to help the party. Roet is a lot more built around his physical side than Intelligence, so my quantity of extracts is a bit more limited than it would be for a full Intelligence-focused alchemist, but it might still be helpful. Let me review the sheet and I'll get back!

Thanks a ton for the invite! Very happy to be here, as I love the horror atmosphere of this AP and I think the characters will connect really well. I will be adjusting the last details on the sheet soon, and please feel free to let me know any other things you'd like me to change or better explain.

As a party, maybe we should all put some gold together to buy some healing wands.

As for knowing each other: I built my background basically allowing us to go either way, but I feel it's a good hook if this party of players had been together for some time; it makes things definitely simpler.

Hi GM! I manually updated Roet's sheet to fix the HeroLab mis-naming of the mutagen, and added a section at the bottom doing a breakdown of his mutagen of choice. Those are the bonuses associated with a Grand Mutagen, which is not available until 16th level.

HeroLab is showing it on the sheet, but when I calculated his effects with mutagen, I used the numbers of the right one - that’s what I meant. I can manually edit the sheet generated by HeroLab if it makes you more comfortable (I just have to remember to edit every time I export).

Don’t worry - this is Hero Lab’s way of doing it. Notice that the stats the mutagen is giving are not the ones for the higher level one, but the 3rd level (greater, I believe; regular, improved, greater, grand). Even if Hero Lab is calling it wrongly, it’s still just giving the right stats. I still have to buy the grand mutagen and maybe draconian mutagen if we ever get that far (using the Master Chymist “discoveries”). It’s an automated software, but not that smart :) if you want I can edit the names on the sheet I copied from there to avoid confusion, but I’m keeping an eye on the abilities the mutagens give. I can also send you the portfolio file if you have Hero Lab so you can double check. I hope you liked the concept!

Happy to be here with these many good applications. I believe Roet can work well for the group in the martial role - the arcane bloodrage gives him excellent defenses (between displacement, mirror image, resist energy, etc.) and he can be somewhat capable dealing damage, although I believe the rest of the party is probably more focused in it and capable of better numbers.

@Olimpia: while Roet is also an "arcane caster", I think I'm in your same boat as he's not really focused on it. However, I can probably move some of his spells around to be able to provide some more support (like Haste etc.).

Archlich here with my "Winter Soldier" brawler with a prosthetic arm :) I added a small backstory trying to tie to the whole thing. Thanks for the warm welcome!

He's designed to work as a more defensive guy, especially as he progresses in levels. I might still do some damage but I guess other builds (barbarians, bloodragers, etc.) would definitely output a lot more.

When I get to level 5, with the steel-breaker ability, I can probably be more helpful in this matter - and if we're lacking too much, I can put some feats towards damage dealing, like power attack and whatnot.

Roet keeps flurrying his attacks with his strange looking spiked shield. His style is still defensive, in crane style, and he fights with a clear combat expertise.

Very hurt, Roet coughs blood on the floor. Yet, the man doesn't back up - you're likely to get wet when you come out on the rain.

If I ever commit a crime, send me here! I never saw guards take so long to come help against a prison break! - he says to the others, smiling to Perrin for the healing and obviously exaggerating on the time the guards were taking to arrive.

He moves his madu again, trying to feint the man, then unleashes a single strong attack against the entangled man.

Bluff (Feint): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Attack (Knockout): 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 1 = 21

When Roet notices the action, he feels he has to move fast. He instinctively enters in his usual fighting defensive style and moves towards the man. He pulls his weird-looking spike shield - a madu - on the way, and such movement is made as a sort of combat feint.

Roet waits back and looks with curiosity as Perrin examines the loaves. Finally, when the guard identify where they came from, he speaks.

We probably should head there to investigate. - Roet states the obvious, but then looks at Melira, not knowing how sensitive she was on the Elven question - You know, not because of the Elven Embassy thing...

Melira then speaks about a scraping noise - that he didn't hear - and starts moving towards it. The brawler looks at Perrin and Kazador, then follows carefully - until they found the man causing the noise!

It was something arcane, very well hidden between some sugar loaves, and it put down an entire building! From that moment on, every time someone tells me there's something arcane on a bowl... Roet looks at Perrin, then, and greets him.

Roet steps back and lies against a wall while the paladins pass by. He lets his hood fall ahead and tilts his head to throw some shade on his face - he didn't have problems with the law, but was aware enough that his appearance and behavior sometimes would raise suspicions and lead to unnecessary questioning.

Step 3

The man looks at the pastries with curiosity and a bit of hunger, but again keeps his silence. Yet, he's caught by surprise when Perrin starts muttering the words and gestures for his spell.

I'm Roet Heineous. - he says, analyzing the armor and weapons of the Dwarf - I couldn't help but notice your interest on this particular individual on the poster. Well, I believe the other guards on the caravan might have taken him to a constable or something of the sorts... I left before, and lost contact ever since.

This wasn't actually the truth - Roet knew the other men probably beat the guy to death for stealing, or hung him to a tree somewhere no one could find. Yet, he really did left before he knew his destiny, and as much as he could track the others - he'd rather not involve himself in the kind of hairy business that "disappearing with the guy" could lead to. Roet was, however, fairly interested in "fighting the good fight" and leaving the past behind.

Is there anything I can do to help? - he finally asked - I'm between contracts at the moment, and would love being useful and getting some coins in the process.

Well, colonel - I do have some information... About the Handle of the Reaper.

He paused for a moment, trying to assess from the reactions if he should continue.

I work as a bodyguard for the nearby caravans. I... Heard... From a bandit we... Captured...

He felt as if he was choosing too much the words and taking too much time - so he just decided to go straight to the point.

One of the merchant offices that was robbed by the guys of the Handle had an empty lockbox, yet they stayed there for several, several hours. I thought it was intriguing, to say the least.

At that instant, a rough man walks in the Central Guardhouse. He's not too tall, and his beating appearance is that of someone of poor origins. His beard is badly trimmed and the hair seems fuzzy underneath a hood. He carries a strange-looking strapped leather shield, but the only visible weapons are some darts on a bandolier. His outfit seems to indicate he's some sort of mercenary bodyguard.

Excuse me, please. - he says, and the voice sounds calm - I'm here about a robbery on one of the merchant lockboxes. Who should I address about it?

His eyes look around with curiosity - especially because of all the present, clearly dressed as adventurers of some sort.
