The barbarian looks around at the party, then away to the west. "Right. Looks like a door that way, then it opens up. Door first." He strides forward and listens at the door.
"Hear anything?" Rethersfell inquires, keeping a distance.
"Someone who knows more than me needs to read this."
"Presumably, that could be anyone here." Rethersfell declares, evocatively, as he snatches the diary from Kimmo's hand. He gives it a quick read, attempting to recall some useful information as he does so.

Rethersfell jumps across the corner of the pit, then move to try to see within the dust. He urges on the broom.

As its bristles previously failed, the broom now tries to better handle the situation.

I've played this twice now (both since this PbP began) and I've enjoyed it each time. The flavor of the forest and kami seems spot on to me. I also very much like the variety with having faced different forest creatures, a different "dungeon", and a different "boss" each time.
"I see..." Mayor Kimi murmurs. You get the impression she's not telling everything...
Based upon his impression of the mayor, Rethersfell takes his investigation to the village. He begins at the tiny inn, which given his height, appears rather roomy. There, he tries to get a sense of the town's nature, comparing what he sees to what he recalls about human societies to idenify any potentially suspicious activities.
"How about a little jolt to share 'twixt this aggressive pair?" Rethersfell proposes as he takes up a more advantageous spot then evokes a bolt of lighting!

"It seems these souls have lost their way." Rethersfell declares. Approaching the spirits, he says, [b]"May I suggest that you look for some light and then head for it?

Rethersfell recalls descriptions of fey lookouts in the temperate forests of Avistan, often called "pixie peeks", and searches for similar qualities among the trees, believing them to be the most likely to provide a useful view.

"All this talk of wine, spirits, and tea! My, you all are a most thirsty bunch, it would seem," chimes a gnome. Beneath a mop of colorful green hair lies a pointed nose and gleaming grin. "I am known as Rethersfell the Evocator, though I have, at times, been called more colorful names."
"Magic lies in all words, whether they be enspelled or mundane. Thus, while some may seldom use more than a few, I seldomly choose to speak fewer than a sum!"
"If we have killed all the oozes, then you have nothing to fear. And if we have not, then it is but a matter of time before they find you here. Come with us, if you want to live," suggests Rethersfell.
Rethersfell attempts to walk along the edge of the trap to enter the building safely.

"An ooze worth of prevention, is a pounding cure!" Rethersfell declares, watching Bob's handiwork.
The gnome then casts magic missile, sending bolts flying at the pair of oozes.

"Presumably, Zarzan has access to a vessel as he has been there previously." Rethersfell say. "But, I agree, that which must be cleansed should be cleansed quickly."
However, if we have a day before we go, Rethersfell will switch out spells.
Turning back to Rethersfell he offers "Would you like Ulvard to read note for you?"
"Not necessary. Not necessary," Rethersfell insists. "You have already prattled on quite substantially and, yet, have managed to say very little."
"As for 'Evocator'? One should know that a wizard always says what he means!" declares the gnome, before adding, "No doubt, you should be asking me to read a dictionary to you."
"So many legs! Let's see if we can knock down a few."

"I could use a little magic to clean this old cave up, perhaps? Add a nice, minty scent?" suggests Rethersfell. He casts detect magic and focuses on the form in the web, hoping that if someone died unexpectedly, they may have some items of value still on them.
You find a pair of torches as well as flint and steel by the fire.
Rethersfell reaches for a torch, bypassing the flint and steel and casts light on it.
"Perfect," he remarks as it begins to glow. Having missed the tracks, he follows the party. He knows he lacks the skill to disable the shrieker, but ponders what else he may know about the fungus.

"And I thought the rain was unexpected!" declares a green-haired gnome as he picks up the note and internalizes its contents. "A wise gnome once said, 'A dab of dullness can lead to fade, but a splash of intrigue adds color for years!'"
"And what was the name of that astute sage, you may ask? Why, Rethersfell the Evocator! Of course!" gnotes the gnome with a bow. "The one and only, at your service."
"Exchanging one mask for another, then?" Rethersfells says in reply to Kareida. "This one is certainly the more pleasant."
Rethersfell is pleased with the outcome, but has little desire to remain in this town. "Good-bye land of shadows. I hardly knew you... but, I think I prefer it that way."
Rethersfell winces with pain, but only for a moment.
"These folks are not ours to surrender," he declares to the priestess on Zon-Kuthon. "They are their own. As were you, I suppose, at one point even if now you have surrendered yourself to another."
"In any event, this scuffle, though intriguing, has gone on long enough." The gnome begins casting.
