![]() So, you're new to PBP? Let me give you a few pointers. Doomed Hero's great formatting guide is here: Link You may want to open with some further info about the setting, what kind of characters you are looking for, acceptable materials, etc. Here are some threads that have strong opening posts:

![]() GM Rednal wrote: @Ptolmaeus: Yes, a radio item of that type is fine. ^^ Though, I should probably note that members of the Agency willingly get involved with some particularly odd (and dangerous) tasks, so you may want to avoid characters who feel like things are too over their heads. As for Palls, I can work with the nature of monsters. I'll be thinking on that one. Oh he'll have a good reason to work with them. Planar expeditions are very expensive, one would imagine. ![]()
![]() Alright, reposting links for the sake of simplicity. I've got both profile adhering to your outline now and have a few questions about backstory I hope you'll answer for me Idea the First, Shotgun Hero:
Basher
For him I wanted to make a seemingly unheroic hero. He is the guy who is in over his head with all this magic and monster nonsense but is trapped in it. I had intended to make him from a plane that mirrored Earth in many ways, elevated technology, little to no magic. If you don't mind that would you mind allowing me to have a sort of vanity item in the form of a much battered and crudely repaired hand-crank radio that Basher winds up and listens to when the planar flux aligns in a way that lets stray radio signals into Auralis? I'll flesh out the background if you like the idea and send you a copy. I kind of like keeping certain aspects of my backgrounds a secret.
Idea the Second, Urban Monster: Palls
Palls is a bit messier. I'll be investing in customizations that give him natural attacks and improve survivability and stealth. He is big, he is scary, but he is not simple. I wanted to make a rather frightening character that would allow for ruminations on the nature of what a monster is. He became a monster long ago and has rather embraced the freedom that idea has given him. A touch cliched but sometimes fun. I made him true neutral, not due to his lack of a moral compass but the utterly pragmatic nature of it. He understands the advantages of altruism in small groups but his lack of concern for most makes him the perfect mercenary. His background is a more ambiguous right now because I'd like a really good mystery to fit him into in the city. Something scary and eldritch. If selected, I'd be very happy to give you complete free reign on just what made him into what he is today. ![]()
![]() Alright GM, I've got my first submission cleaned up and ready to roll:
Short version is that he is a ranged/crowd control specialist with some interesting skill monkey stuff thrown in for good measure. As he levels, he'll be able to affect a truly maddening area with his attacks and deal out some vicious damage as well. I plan to take Limitless Range for my first mythic power so the terrible range with shotgun slugs should be mitigated some. Shatter Defenses and Mythic Shatter Defenses will also be a favorite tactic of his for a mass debuff on the enemy ranks. GM: I like keeping a few secrets from the other players when it comes to backstory, it's a bad habit of mine.
I was wondering if you'd be opposed to having him be from a plane with some sort of technological advancement above the level present on Auralis but functionally no way to return home. It would make a nice explanation of his considerable engineering knowledge. If yes, would you mind allowing me to have a sort of vanity item in the form of a much battered and crudely repaired hand-crank radio that Basher winds up and listens to when the planar flux aligns in a way that lets stray radio signals into Auralis. ![]()
![]() I'm going to shamelessly spend 2500 on building a single barreled shotgun. I briefly considered using This Archetype instead of slayer to make it even more crazy but I decided even in an extra planar city there were not likely any deities with a shotgun as a favored weapon. ![]()

That's more than fair. I'm probably going to respec a bit to specialize in the energy blasts and also gonna build a back-up incase this does not work as well as we thought it would. ![]()

That's one of the bothersome things about the class. While I love playing them, Aegii could benefit from some careful errata-ings. ![]()
![]() thunderbeard wrote:
That's what I was planning on, the only issue is how limited the bonus to attack rolls will be. Outside of BAB and Dexterity, I don't have many options for bonuses since I can't enchant this weapon and don't have access to, say, full weapon focus or any other training. ![]()
![]() Strebor Leahcim wrote: Ptolmaeus, I'm probably shooting myself in the foot, but you should use my build for your concept. The aegis/soul knife (soulbolt)/metaforge build allows a lot of flexibility and allows for a little more damage and range. Maybe we could team up and be some sort of twins or cyborgs from the same creator? If you could stand my presence, that is. Nah, don't worry about it, I'll figure something else out. ![]()
![]() Alright, I've got some ideas, time to roll those stats... 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
So, the ideas I'm kicking around are a little varied at the moment.
Idea the Second: I'd really like a chance to play a Cyber-Soldier (prd) from the technology guide in a proper Sci-Fi setting because it would be awesome but it is technically a core class but it does stack with the Psionic Fighter Archetype (d20pfsrd). Idea the Third: Jedi... I haven't decided just how yet but Psionics certain provides options ![]()

Would you care to to reassign parameters?" ![]()
![]() Alright, I've got three character concepts knocking around in my head right now. Idea the First: Ony the Dog (CN Human (formerly) Aberrant Aegis/Martial Artist Monk): Hit hardest and hit first.
Don't let anyone under your skin. Don't look back, it gets you killed. Rules to survive by, but not rules live by. More than a few things make it out of the Carcass and back out into the Razor. Those that do often bear the scars of that terrible place until their deaths. Ony is no exception but whether his affliction is a product of the Carcass's cruel rulers or something that came before even that is a matter of debate. He did not remember much before being pulled out of the waters around Ho’oka’la and onto a slave ship laying low near the cursed cove. His name was about the extent of it. He learned a few things in the Carcass, though, to make up for it. The first was how to scrap. Slaves like him are treated about as well as you could expect in that damned place. It did not help that he was pushing seven feet tall and had skin thicker than leather and eyes uncomfortably reminiscent of some massive predator. The Tulita slaves called him a dajobasu, and he even met one down in that pit. It was plain as day that as twisted up as a dajobasu was, he was something worse. He killed that dajobasu in over a bread crust the next day. He did not want to but the second thing Ony learned was not to show fear. About then his masters stopped calling him 'flotsam' and started calling him 'dog'. He attracted attention from the Mage Kings about this time and once a month he was escorted up into the heights of the Carcass to be toyed with via foul magics. He was pretty sure he died more than once but he did not mind the pain, it was just a different flavor from what he experienced from day to day in the slave warrens. In fact, he actually enjoyed the visits because for the briefest moment, as he climbed upward, he could catch glimpses of the world beyond the Carcass. Ony gained a reputation in the Carcass, with it came recognition. With recognition came attention. Being a survivor is one thing, being alone is another. Ony had never had the luxury of anything approaching friends in his memory. He should not have trusted the ones that stepped in when his name started getting passed around with respect. Maybe a few of them meant it. He hoped Lissa at least did. Lissa was a funny little scrapper that had been on the boat that picked him up. Most of the time she went as Lee and disguised herself as a boy to escape the depredations of the Carcass. Just because she lacked a set of block and tackle did not mean she was not one of the meanest slaves down there. She made sure the lessons she taught were remembered by her students. Lissa was also about the prettiest thing Ony had seen on the Carcass. Probably not much compared to ladies on the rest of the Razor but she meant something to him. They talked about finding a way off the Carcass, and she talked about the rest of the Razor. Perhaps they were both fools. The plan was found out and Ony ended up with a spear in his chest and what looked like a fast approaching watery grave. However, like a stray mongrel, Ony refused to lay down and die. He would have found the way he adapted to the water disturbing, how gills formed on his chest, how his hands and feet became webbed, but Ony was used to his body doing weird things. He swam, and swam, and swam. Any time he saw a boat, he ducked under the water and let it pass. Sharks became interested in his from time to time, so he ate well at least. ![]()
![]() Alright, my build is bouncing back and forth between a Monk (Martial Artist)/Aegis (Aberrant) and a natural weapon specialist Slayer/Aegis (Aberrant). The basic idea is that of a somewhat monstrous man who keeps moving to hide the mutations he seems to randomly undergo. Tough as hell, strictly a dirty fighter and an all around beast when it comes to charging in and hurting things. ![]()

![]() Wolf and Decr': "This unit is operating within acceptable parameters. Minor water damage present, and should be addressed during next maintenance session. Superficial damage is present on numerous surfaces but should have no impact on performance. For ease of use in tactical situations would you care to assign a designation and handler to this unit?" The golem said, turning its single lens to regard Wolf. The wood was still dripping from its trudge across the ocean floor and bore more than a few scratches and scrapes. |
