That was awesome, Carina! I hope you don't mind my grabbing you and sort of deciding your action for you, but I was concerned that not getting to act in the surprise round might have grave consequences for you. Turned out to not be so bad, but I think we had an excellent teamwork solution - and that's the first time I've used that jump bonus! "All right," Prothero says calmly, as the warriors do not seem to mean them harm, and they are not a charging herd of bison. "Where are we going, and what are we talking about?"

Human Monk (Zen Archer, Quinggong) 5 | HP 42/42 | AC 24 | T 19 | FF 21 (
DM - is it possible to jump over the herd as it passes, rather than climbing up? By spending one ki point, Prothero has a +38 to jump, due to the monk High Jump ability. I'd like to grab Carina and try to jump over the herd. It may not be entirely realistic, but it's cinematic and heroic, which is why I want to go for it. I'll post as if it's okay, let me know if it's not. Prothero hears the rumble of many hooves and remarks, "Note to self: next time, listen to the fortune teller. Sorry about that, Carina." He then steps next to the Varisian woman, smoothly picking her up and leaping impossibly high into the air in the instant before the herd is upon them! Jump: 1d20 + 38 ⇒ (12) + 38 = 50 That would let me jump 12' straight up.

So, I don't think I saw the foes up above, I saw them in the gorge with the animals. I think we may be overthinking this, as sometimes happens when a party gets stuck at a simple door in a dungeon. I propose we go into the gorge. If we all die, sorry.

As Zero gives him a gentle nudge and points out an area Prothero hasn't scanned, the monks eyes widen, "You know, I thought I saw something as we came close to the gorge, and now I realize what it was. There were humanoid figures moving around some of the mammoths and bison, though I don't see them now." He pulls a wand from his belt pouch and asks Carina to tap him with it, for protection. Then he says, "If we're going in here, we should be on our toes." Mage armor, please? Good point about longstrider being a personal spell, Carina. Guess the wand is not so useful as I thought.

"I might be able to use those weapons, Grainne," Prothero replies, "though I've not spent a lifetime training with them, so I'll stick with my bow, thanks." That fully charged wand of longstrider could come in very handy. I don't think it's on any of our spell lists, does anyone have a bit of UMD? Perception, DC 25: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23 Close, but nope. Prothero studies the cave-in alongside Ailean, asking the garble-tongued Pathfinder, "Wait, rock blocked the cave whole or blocked the cave hole? I guess it's both, or either, eh?" Deciding it won't be fruitful to inquire further, Prothero then turns to consider the the images painted on the cave walls, particularly the elements pointed out by Ailean. "I believe I've seen or heard something about this in my travels," he offers, sounding a bit surprised that he's got any knowledge about a painting in a cave, of all places, so far from his home. "The axe-wielding figure in the first scene is different from the other humanoids depicted. See how he is shown with a white beard? That is not something you typically see among the Kellid peoples. I think the painting of the three mammoths symbolizes migration, and each painting of three mammoths stands for the passage of a single year, so we're looking at thirty years here. And finally, the moon in its various stages symbolizes eternity, or some period of time that cannot be depicted with the migration symbol, usually meaning hundreds of years."

As I've said, I'm loving Ailean as a character, and I agree he fits very well with the PbP format. I've got at least one character who I thought would be tons of fun to play at a table and works much better in PbP. I also think it's appropriate that one of Ailean's posts was just a bunch of random characters. "Hmm, wonder why they took the weapons but not the gold?" Prothero muses. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking about the picture, but I think you want to get a picture below your name like the rest of us have. To do that, here's what you do: Go to the top of the page (should work from any page on the Paizo site) and click 'My Account'. Log in with name and password. Scroll down to the box where it says 'Organized Play' towards the bottom of the page, and click on the button that says 'Make Changes'. Assuming you've got registered PFS characters, you'll see a list of them. To the right of the list, each character has a button that says 'Edit' - click that button. On the Edit screen, you'll see 'Character Image' and a button that says 'Change' - click that. It will open up a screen with many avatars, and some ways to filter them. Find one you like and select it. You'll be back on the Edit screen for that character - scroll down to the bottom, click 'Submit Changes' and you'll have a picture for your character.

Prothero pulls out a wand and offers it to Ailean, then explains slowly and clearly - and perhaps a bit loudly - what he has in mind, as he's still not sure he understands how the cleric's thought process works, "This is a healing wand. We can use it on the injured man, to see if we can talk to him." Gesturing first to himself and then to Ailean, he continues, "I cannot use it, but you can. See? If you heal him, he will wake up, and we can talk to him, right?" He then pauses, a hopeful look on his face, to see if he's been understood. Assuming Ailean uses the wand, here's a roll to heal the Kellid: CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Hmph. Ailean Catan wrote: I don't think you can take 20 on survival here Prothero, most survival checks are once every 24 hours. "you make a Survival check once every 24 hours. The result of that check applies until the next check is made." Basically you've already seen all you think you can make out for the day after the first check. Yeah, I read that also, but I don't think that's really the relevant bit of the rules, since the full sentence is "For getting along in the wild or for gaining the Fortitude save bonus noted in the first table above, you make a Survival check once every 24 hours." At the same time, the fact that "For finding tracks, you can retry a failed check after 1 hour (outdoors) or 10 minutes (indoors) of searching" suggests that taking 20 would take a very long time, on the order of 20 hours, so the answer is basically the same as what you said.

As Ailean heals the injured man, Prothero slips his bow off his shoulder and stays alert for any surprises, looking around and remarking, "If it's a good ambush site one, it's a good ambush site twice." As he surveys the surroundings, he tries to make sense of the lantern worshipper's ramblings, and his own eyes helpm him understand what his hears cannot. "Ah, I see what you're saying, Ailean. I see the other tracks as well. Our quarry is wearing proper boots, and someone is following them in cruder footwear, flanking their trail. This gets more complicated. Buit doesn't it always?" Take 10 on Survival for a 15 Satisfied that there's no further threat nearby, he turns to hear what the injured man has to say for himself. Sorry again for the late arrival, all. And that was a fantastic post of your Harrow reading, Carina! Really cool stuff. Welcome to our new players, looking forward to getting to know you, your characters are already a lot of fun. At the outset of the journey through the frozen lands, Prothero introduces himself to the newcomers to the group, and greets Zero and Carina warmly. He is older than many Pathfinders of his relatively low rank and dressed in faded grey robes, his only extravagance a beautiful bow of black wood extending over his right shoulder. His coloring – the bronzed skin and a few struggling wisps of brown hair – indicate his Taldan birth, and his sparse but neatly trimmed beard marks him as being of the noble blood of that land. Strangely, his earlobes have a fringed, almost tentacled look to them, and the tops of his ears look ever so slightly like the wings of a bat. He happily accepts Ailean’s offer of magical protection against the cold, thanking him with almost courtly grace, surprising in one so simply dressed. He then considers what he knows of the history of the area, but draws a blank. ”I know that I studied these matters at one point,” he remarks, ”but I can bring nothing to mind about these lands.” Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Wow, again I didn't get any notifications that there were new posts in the previous discussion thread! I have been late to the party the last two scenarios, very sorry about that.
