Phoenix lands in the gap betwixt the flames. Ahh yes. He clucks, dragging his talons through the dry, red dust. I have made many last stands against impossible odds in geography very similar to this. Last stands for my enemies... He clucks suavely. I don't think we should split up. We've already had two scares with a pupper going down. Wouldn't want to lose any of them. But I'm ready to move forward however.

Phoenix stirs in Shel's arms. One chicken eye opens, and he beholds the pile of corpses strewn all about him. He sighs heavily and closes his eye. This was not the first time he had been consumed by elemental rage, only to awaken surrounded by the bodies of those who would harm the spirit realm. He could only hope he did not harm any innocent's in the cataclysmic destruction he rained down upon the evil and weak. Imara CLW 1: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

The thrum of the wardrums atop the tower beat in Phoenix's superior chicken ears. He feels the agitation of the spirits around him as the vile orcs spread their evil song. I know what I must do. Phoenix clucks, walking over to Imara's bag and rummaging around inside it, withdrawing his head to reveal another of Imara's hoop-shaped fireworks strung round his neck like an oversized necklace. On this day, water, air, and fire spirits unite! Phoenix is using one of Imara's fireworks... He has a plan only comprehensible to chickenkind. Phoenix uses an action to move and an action to

Time slows almost to a crawl as the crude axe flies through the air towards the mighty Phoenix. The water spirit casually leans to the side as the weapon hurtles past him, missing him by a hairsbreadth. Phoenix looks to his attacker and clucks in amusement. Summoning a tsunami of power, Phoenix bids the trap door to open! He then takes a step back and chicken dives majestically off the tower, landing like a feather upon the ground. Cast Open/Close on the trapdoor, move off the tower.

Buffs: Protective Luck (Imara): Whenever that creature is targeted by an effect that requires an attack roll, including weapon attacks, the attacker must roll twice and take the worse result. 1 Round. Bless (All): Bless fills your allies with courage. Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects. 10 of 20 rounds. Protection from Evil (Imara): First, the subject gains a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves. Both these bonuses apply against attacks made or effects created by evil creatures. Second, the subject immediately receives another saving throw (if one was allowed to begin with) against any spells or effects that possess or exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment [charm] effects and enchantment [compulsion] effects, such as charm person, command, and dominate person). This saving throw is made with a +2 morale bonus, using the same DC as the original effect. If successful, such effects are suppressed for the duration of this spell. The effects resume when the duration of this spell expires. While under the effects of this spell, the target is immune to any new attempts to possess or exercise mental control over the target. This spell does not expel a controlling life force (such as a ghost or spellcaster using magic jar), but it does prevent them from controlling the target. This second effect only functions against spells and effects created by evil creatures or objects, subject to GM discretion. Third, the spell prevents bodily contact by evil summoned creatures. This causes the natural weapon attacks of such creatures to fail and the creatures to recoil if such attacks require touching the warded creature. Summoned creatures that are not evil are immune to this effect. The protection against contact by summoned creatures ends if the warded creature makes an attack against or tries to force the barrier against the blocked creature. Spell Resistance can allow a creature to overcome this protection and touch the warded creature.

Shel carries Phoenix nearer to the conflict but, unsatisfied with his familiars slow, earthbound movement, Phoenix lunches himself from the half-orcs arms and flies through the battered door of the shop, landing on the pointy-eared humans head. Phoenix rose early in the morning to prepare for the funeral. After feasting on some grubs with his fellow avians, he bathed in the Hopespring to wash the evil shadow spirits off of his feathers. Hmm. Phoenix clucks thoughtfully. He walks over to the Shel's satchel where it still lays on the floor and begins pecking through it, picking up each of his treasures and examining them in turn. He settles on one, a tinned nail bent at a ninety degree angle he found near a fence one day, and carries it over to Imara. I've always suspected this mighty nail held great powers. Do you think this is the artifact we seek? He sets the nail on the floor in front of her. After a moment, he picks it up and places it directly on the elf's boot and looks up at her quizzically. He struts about on top of the book, clucking proudly, chest puffed out more than usual. Sorry 'bout the delay. Busy couple of days. Phoenix wouldn't be happy with selling the hopeknife. There's probably some kind of taboo about selling them anyways. Shel can use the barkskin and swarm scroll so she'll keep them. I'm not a big fan of having players "buy" gear from the pool. Like Michael said, if you do that you end up with players only keeping the most optimal gear and none of the flavorful gear. Keeping consumables is fine as long as people actually use them. You usually end up with a Portable Hole full of low level consumables that no one got around to using.
