I've been up and been down and currently I am down again. I am getting unemployment which is a small amount and goes away in a day or so. But it helps with food and my cell phone and I am very grateful for it. I am actively interviewing and it can be tough sometimes. Having to really plan well for a trip to Boston for a job interview and being more scared about having enough money to get home then the actual interview is ironic. (It went well, but the job was pulled due to budget cuts).

I find that in the long run it gets better - but it tends to take much longer than one would wish. (I am in my sixth month of unemployment and lose benefits in about eight weeks - I think.)

I been fooling around with a friend's ipad and I'm not totally impressed. It is neat but seems a bit expensive for what you get. I was also disappointed there are no usb ports. (I know, I know - I'm out of date.)

Is there another decent tablet out there that can read PDF files (in color), do some low level web surfing and shoot off a simple email or two? I would use it mainly to carry all my Pathfinder content around to games...

Thanks,
Ed

If you want to play a "holy warrior" of a non LG, NG, or LN deity like Calistria or Pharasma, you should probably play a cleric or a cleric/fighter or maybe a cleric/rogue. And that doesn't mean even levels—you can take only a couple of fighter levels and then focus on the cleric levels. Alternatively, an inquisitor might be a good choice.

Ah - ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. I may do a Fighter/Cleric set up then.

And on a wide tangent - thanks again for a great game during PaizoCon. (I was “Bob” – the Lizard Wizard riding on the “Mr. Tasty” ice cream truck!)

Is it possible to play a Paladin of Calistria or Pharasma? I guess the short answer is “yes” in a home campaign. But would it be allowed in a PFS game and what are the issues (alignment wise and other) for this particular build?

Thanks,
Ed

As a GM and a player, I interpert it as more a fun roleplay thing: "Hey buddy/sweetheart, it is so hot in here, please remove the heavy armor and cool off."

Anything that would do direct damage to the subject of the spell - slit your own throat, etc. - is a no-go. That's what the spell Confusion is for. :)

Hello,

I would like to give it a try. I would play the Wizard. (I have a lot of expereince playing Pathfinder and have played a large number of games online.) I'll be online tonight (6/25) and my skype id is swordandpaper. You can shoot me an email with whatever infromation I need at my email below under "spoiler". We'll try it for a few games and if you group approves and we're both happy with how it is going, I'll be a regular player.

Thanks!

Sorry I missed it, I got pulled into something work related the last night of the Con and had to deal with it for a few hours online.

Sounds like you had a great time....:)

Ed

Kelly: Thank you for the great PFS game you ran for us - much appreciated.

Kelly took off his mask to run the game and showed his true face. Or did he? One never knows with the Pactmasters...

Thanks for the name tags Jason - and great to meet you during the morning tour.

Ed

I've been here since Monday for work and have been getting up every day at 5:30 am or so and one day working until 11 pm. (So my body is more in tune with the time zone.) Did the Tim tour (Thanks Tim!), The Crab Pot (great crowd and food) and passed out at 11....

Slept like a rock until 7:30 this morning...wahoo!

I'm taking advantage of this so I will have some fun stuff to read on the long flight home. Thank you - very cool of you all to arrange this.

I may have to drop one of my events due to a dinner I've been invited to. How does one go about freeing one up at this late date?

Thanks,
Ed

Very cool...thanks Eric! I'll like to play a wizard and will probally use one of the pregens.

If there is still room, I would like to join the game.

Very cool mini...may just paint him and make him my next PC…

In terms of logistics, I plan to be in the lobby around 7:30. I'll spring for a cab for a body or two (plus me, of course) if room runs out in Tim's mini-van.

(I'm staying in a hotel about two blocks away that day, plan to leave my bag at my "old" hotel or ask if the PaizoCon hotel will hold my bag until I can check in later on that day.)

Ed

Spoiler:
My email is swordandpaper@gmail in case you want to shoot me an email to let me know you want to jump the cab. I'll share my cell number so you can text me if you write to me directly.

"Achaieraischoo, I choose you!"

I got Unspeakable Futures—Knights of Dagon , which I really really want to play (!) , Risen Beneath the Ice , and the Preview Banquet. I would have liked one or more of my choices (also really wanted to play Liz's Big Trouble in Little China which sounds like great great fun). Suicidal Strikeforce (which I didn't get) also looks like a lot of fun. I'm very happy with what I got and at least for me, this set-up seems to be the best way to try for everyone to get something they want.

My two-cents,

I'll like to join this itineray as well. I have to be in Seattle ahead of time for business anyway (flying in Monday afternoon) so I can make the 9 am gathering time.

Thank you Tim - very gracious of you to offer to be "tour guide."

I am clueless in terms of geography, is there a landmark we can all meet at, or should we all wear purple golem face masks so we stand out? :)

Well....I was only going to buy one copy of this but if the rest of the artwork in the book is as good as the cover....

I guess I'll buy two...

(I have two hard copies of the Core Rulebook...the well-worn banged up copy that I use at games and a copy I bought at GenCon and had signed by the Paizo crew. That one stays home. :) )

I would add to the list Stander. I saw it at Sundance and was blown away. Disappointed it barely registered when it was released later that year.

You could of course still use it your local Pathfinder game. I'm one of those who are dead-set against firearms in fantasy RPGs but I love this class and plan to play it in one of my games.

Very cool...thanks to you both!

Hello all, three questions about skills that a handful of my friends can't seem to agree on.

1) If you pick a class skill and put one point in it I understand it is a +3 so that means your final total at first level would be +3 or +4 (+3, +1 for the skill rank)?
2) Is that +3 added to each point you put into a class skill? For example, 2 ranks in a skill = +6 (or +8, +6 +2 for each rank.)
3) If you put a point in a non-class skill, how does that work? Does it become a trained skill and thus +3 afterwards?

Thanks!
Ed

(On a side note, I suspect it would add too much to the final page count, but more examples of the math in the core rule book itself would help folks figure stuff out like this on their own.)

Time travel and vikings....he he he. Well done!

103,104,105,106: Four "Master of Spring(s)" Monks who have heard of your unique fighting style and have agreed to attack you to thin out the numbers for the one-on one combat to decide who will be the solo “Master of Spring.”

For a change of pace, after a fun weekend of Pathfinder goodness - would anyone be intrested in a playing a game of The Isle of Doctor Necreaux? Up to five players...

Most excellent....this book and the AP after the current one are the content I am most eager for.

(Indiana Jones movies and old Flash comic books are popping into my head now....)

I'm not leaving until Monday morning....anyone up for a game or two or perhaps catching a movie after the con is officially over?

As someone who is currently playing an EK (F1/Wizard6/EK 2) – I actually like the class. I see myself as a Wizard who occasionally fights and is slightly less of glass cannon. I do miss the spell levels I “lost” – but that’s just the greedy side of me that wants everything. (I think one of the Paizo folks on the boards suggested that you may be better off just taking two levels of fighter and then staying fully focused on Wizard rather than becoming an EK – shrugs.)

I’ve had some great fun gaming experiences as an EK like zapping a ghoul with Scotching Ray and then running on my next turn to whack another ghoul with my longsword that was threatening our wounded cleric. Or holding off a mid-level baddie who has snuck up on us from the rear and I held my own (barely). [I was just a meat shield for three rounds until I could run away and be hit one more time and drop to five hit points – but it was fun and I actually did some damage!]

The reality is that the fighter/mage has to be a compromise for game balance, and I am okay with it. The fighter end quickly becomes less effective for me as an EK – because I don’t hit anywhere near the some rate (or do more than so-so damage) as the melee guys – but that’s cool. I can fly and heat things up with a fireball....

Ditto, same here - you had my vote. But I agree with Jesse. I suspect you'll be doing something for Paizo (and others) very soon.

I’m coming late to this - so sorry if someone already brought it up.

I think that if you don't have kids of your own - you may be a little insensitive to mature themes in games. A while back I gave a copy of God of War (PS 2 video game) to my friend's son who is 15. My friend was okay with it, but he told me he was a little blind-sided when he sat down with his son and watched him play and rightly busted my chops. He won't be asking my opinion anytime soon on content I've viewed if it is age appropriate for his kids. (God of War can be…err…quite bloody.) He feels his kid has already been exposed to quite a bit gore as a horror movie fan – even if he is not 17.

I just really didn’t give it any thought until this incident. And now that I became a Godfather to my brother's son – I think about appropriate content – never did before. <shrugs>

I voted for Mr. Groves. If he wins I suspect he'll have to cut his proposal down to size....this could easily be a three part module series. (Not a bad thing!)

I disagreed slightly with the folks who thought the he had to really hit us over the head with the "Wow" factor. (My interpretation of what some folks said). But I understood he felt he needed to kick things up a notch. He did – but what has impressed me throughout is the quality of his stuff and how if you gave his submissions some thought – possibilities popped into your head. Even his first submission - Seducer’s Bane – which I didn’t personaly think much of – wasn’t flashy or showy but you could easily see some interesting conversations/complications/betrayals/surprises with a NPC/PC who had it on them. And it’s that kind of quiet quality that impressed me about all his well-thought out stuff.

Good luck Watcher and congrats to the top 4 for having made it this far!

I encountered this during a game last night. I was in the area effect of a silence spell and I wanted to pronounce judgement on my foes. The GM ruled that I could not do so until I was out of the spell’s zone.

That made sense to me – but a couple of questions popped up...to pronounce judgement on your foes...

1) Does the Inquisitor need to even say it aloud?
2) Does his foes need to actually hear the judgement? (The GM ruled no.)
3) Does his foe need to understand the judgement? (Language, etc.)

I would say no to all three – but the GM disagreed with me #1 – and I see his point. I’m just throwing it out there for discussion.

Thank you Pax - that's generous of you. If you can just point me in the right general direction that would be great.

It's funny – I know that part of the pitch for Pathfinder was that it was 3.5 compatible and you could use all the “old" stuff that was out there. I didn’t think much of that fact – but I liked 3.0 so I suspected I would like Pathfinder. I was out of the hobby so I haven’t invested heavily in 3.0/3.5 content, but it’s become an added charm of the system for me. I mostly play now – 95% of my time in AD&D was as a GM - but there’s some great stuff out there that I would love to incorporate into a game I would run.

(More money out of my pocket, freely given...grumble, grumble, grumble....)
