Rejected Bestiary 2 Ideas

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Bestiary 2 is in development, and part of the development process is making interesting connections between existing monsters to give GMs ideas for neat encounters. The achaierai is a lawful evil, four-legged, intelligent, predatory flightless bird-creature that lives in the lower planes. Kytons are lawful evil outsiders and can sometimes be found on the lower planes. As both creatures are LE non-devil outsiders that like torturing others, the idea was proposed that achaierais and kytons may ally from time to time, with kytons using the achaierais as mounts. As it turns out, there aren't that many kytons in Hell, so this sort of alliance would be unusual rather than common, so we dropped the idea. But it did inspire this strange "what if?" art....

I actually like this idea.

Why did the kyton in the picture trade in his spiked chain for a giant banana?

Dark Archive Owner - Johnny Scott Comics and Games

It's not just a banana. It's a +5 Keen Vorpal Adamantine Banana of Death! <shudder>

Kytons will soon find out switching from iron chains to fine cowhide leather works better on those long trail rides from one level of the hells to another.

That's a cowboy hat! Probably made from someone he killed!

Grand Lodge

Bearded Devil is maybe a good choice to ride Achaierai despite Barbazus being devils.

Chain Devils riding birds, though -- Paizo made the right choice.

Now all they gotta do is take a serious look at the designer who proposed the idea in the first place; make him clean the latrines at the offices or something.

The shmoo is right here. (They must've just forgotten the part about providing butter, eggs and milk, somehow.)

If he's lucky, of course. D:

Spoiler:
That feyskin leather shop in Nidal still gives me chills. Throw in a ring of regeneration and it becomes weapons-grade nightmare fuel...

That said, this thread needs more monsters-riding-monsters suggestions! :D

I would like to point out that in my original turnover of the chain devils, their original plural was "kytoni," not "kytons."

Sadly, they changed to the more standard -s pluralization, and now apparently ride farting acheraiai while waving the flayed skin of some poor sap. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS.
