Ness' exploits once she returns to town to see her family: Ness' brow was more furrowed with worry than usual and she looked at her brother and shook her head and then stared at him. There was nothing to be done about it - she had to step in and give them her aid - there was nothing to be done about it. Sitting down at the old desk in her mother's parlour room, Ness drew a piece of parchment from the desk drawer and dipped the quill into the ink. She sat there for some time, trying to make the missive pleasant to read but not too flowery for that wasn't her way with words. Verdi sat at the corner of the desk and her delicate leaves rustled in mirth at her mistress' concentration. Satisfied with the letter, she waited for the ink to dry before turning to the lovely young woman waiting on the threadbare couch. Rolling the missive and tying a leather cord around it, she handed it to the other druidess. "I know this is quite sudden, but I can't leave my friends in the lurch. They require a wise soul to join them in this quest with the hatchling and the kobolds. I've every confidence in you and Morra. You'll have to meet them after your morning fast at Mistress Tamily's Fishery. Make your preparations tonight as there won't be much time tomorrow. Introduce yourself, Tannakin, Sansaárë and Priest Julril will know you, Leo will not. Hand them this missive. Best of luck, my friend. Until we meet, again." Iona accepted the rolled parchment and placed it carefully inside her pack. Morra was sitting atop her shoulder and her leafy hand was waving to Verdi, who waved back. "I won't let you down, Ness. I'll give them my best. You take care, my friend. Until then," and with that the younger, human druidess turned on her heel and headed out the parlour and house, leaving the family to discuss their dilemma among themselves. "Let's hope they'll welcome our presence on the morrow, Morra," she spoke softly in Sylvan to the fruit leshy nature spirit.

I'd say there might not be much harm in trying it your way...we'll have to see how it's acting toward us when we find it, Tann. I could try my special animal talk on it; yet I don't speak that dragon tongue you know so well. You might have to do all the talkin'." (Maybe Arcana would help identify more things about the dragon as well as Dragon Lore?) Moving to Tamily, she gratefully accepted a delicious sandwich and then added to her companions, "I'll need to pick some more berries and collect more fresh soil and then see my family. I'll call it a night and see you all here in the morning." And with a respectful nod of her head, Ness and Verdi made their way back to the forest; Ness nibbling on the tasty morsel in her hand.

The gathering surprised her, yet they didn't need to go far to warn the elders. Ness cleared her throat as the town leaders began to fret and babble. "If I might interrupt, this kobold did say once the hatchling's grown, the kobolds would rise up and take what they say is theirs. I'd say our best bet is to find this hatchling and kill it before it gets bigger, hungrier and stronger. Although, as you know, I'm not one for killing creatures as a first recourse. However, it might be a lesser evil. The kobold leader, Zolgran, she has magic, so we have to find and kill her as well." She looked side long at the kobold prisoner. "The prisoner gave them up and wants gold and his freedom in return. I'll leave that to your discretion," looking to the Captain and Mayor. "I'm in need to urgent supplies before we go back down, again," looking around at her companions. (Setting up for Ness' departure...)

To make it a cleaner transition of druid characters, my new character will be a "sister" (in role/spirit only) belonging to the same druid order as Ness sent to help the party in her place. Since they belong to the same order, she too will have a leshy companion - a little different to verdi. I'm putting an alias together with her stats for your perusal. Hopefully, I'll get a link up to the new character by tomorrow at some point. And, thanks for your understanding and patience. :)

I think I might rebuild the druid from scratch as see if I like it better. It won't be Ness and Verdi, though. I'm going to start from the very beginning.

I hear you re druids, Leo. I'm just finding the P2e druids a little lacklustre and restricted by the rules for my liking. I can't get a proper fix on what Nessie is or should be doing in the game anymore. Maybe it's the COVID and exhaustion playing havoc with my sanity. Perhaps I can rebuild Ness into a different kind of druid from scratch and not try to make her fit into a different sized hole now. I'm not good with change at the best of times. It throws me into a tizzy. If I was well, I could least stand a chance. Being sick gives me very little patience for things. Ness' character voice/mannerism has eluded me in game and that's when she was the healer. I just don't know much of anything right now. Maybe it's just that I'm so used to P1e (and better understand it) and I'm struggling with P2e. I just need a definitive direction and that's why I am seeking help/suggestions.

Not sure I want to go the wildshape route (I can always take the summon animal spell and have an animal fight for me, which sounds better) although I'm really confused on levelling up Ness right now as I don't have a clear character path/progression for her in my mind now she isn't going down the route of primary/only healer. Help, please. (Perhaps building a new character from scratch makes more sense then trying to fiddle with her as she currently is...Sigh)

Ness needs CHA for wild empathy so it's not a stat dump for her. Plus, I really hate stat dumps and never do it. Just a personal choice as I like a more balanced (flexible, versatile) character than a character geared one way. Okay, so following the rules I have : STR 12, DEX 12, CON 14, INT 12, WIS 16, CHA 12. To get wild shape, I'll need to pick up the Order Explorer Druid feat which allows me to choose another druid order (Wild) and gain its Wild Shape druid feat. I have been considering it.

There was a rustling inside Ness' coat pocket and then Verdi appeared and climbed up to sit atop the druidess' shoulder. The druidess eyed the last of the kobold fighters and then considering the creature's words, made her manner more approachable. She ahd heard Airi's words and she followed her lead. "We're willing to be merciful and reasonable, if you speak the truth." Diplo (T) (DC 20): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Ness ran a hand over her forehead, scratching it absently. Looking to her friends, she added, "So this kobold caster leader Zolgran has allied herself with a young dragon to eventually rise and attack the town...We must warn the town - speak with Captain Lardus Longsaddle of the Otari Guard and Mayor Oseph Menhemen. Of course, we need to tell Mistress Tamily what we've discovered in her fishery since that was our purpose for investigatin' the place." Perception (T) (DC 10): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Looking over the items found, Ness smiled and nodded toward Airi. She began to cast - allowing her words to resound in the chamber as her hands made the gesture of the ancient spirits. She wished to determine if any magic surrounded them. (Cast Detect Magic on the items - such as the father ladder token and healing potion to determine what they are.) (After some time has lapsed...) "We should leave the fishery and head back to town this night. We've much to do and best we don't linger here longer than we have to. What say you?"

Okay, I can continue as Druid. I lifted my str from 10 to 12 and reduced wis from 18 to 17. I think that may help Ness a little more now she isn't the main/sole healer in the party and she may be able to help out more in other areas, too. I just need to figure out what path I want to go with Ness. I'm a little confused on which druid class feat and skill feat to pick up. It's getting late, here, so I'll look at it again in my morning. Feeling pretty lousy at the moment, too, so not really thinking straight.

I didn’t see you as stepping on my toes, so please don’t worry about that. A cleric is a better/more versatile? healer in game. I’d like to do more with my character than being just a back up healer in game as that would get boring really quickly. Just trying to figure out what to do with her on levelling so she can help the group and be fun to play.

I'm not sure what to do with Ness now. With the cleric in game, her initial 'healer' build isn't as necessary (she can be a backup healer now, yet I think the way I built her on first level makes it a waste). I'm wondering if I should multiclass her or scrap her character entirely and start from scratch with a new level 2 character. I'm open to suggestions, please. If I do proceed with druid at level 2, I'd like the chance to play around with her stats as they're geared one way (as a healer type) and not giving her a chance to be something more/else in game.

Ha! I’m sorry to hear that, too. I have quite severe respiratory issues and poor immunity (plus anaemic and haemoglobin deficit), so I have a phone appt with the doc this morning to see if I can get some anti-virals to help me get through. Last time I caught a nasty common virus (off hubby), my lips turned blue and I stopped breathing and spent a week in ICU. So, my docs are always wary when I get sick. I was very cautious and germ savvy with mask and gloves in my care of him, however hubby spreads illnesses like the plague every single time. Lol Just unlucky, I guess. Sorry to hear that, Julril. Rest and feel better soon. However, it’s good (at least) the symptoms are milder. Hubby's really sick with COVID (came down with it yesterday and got tested - positive) and I'm busy taking care of everything and trying not to catch it as I have respiratory issues and low immunity to any virus. If I'm slow to post this weekend, this is the reason. Apologies.

Round 3 Raising her shield once again (◆), as she didn't trust the kobolds and their sharp spears, Ness began to cast, using her powerful words and gestures (◆◆). She pointed toward the blind kobold and the blasted an icy ray at it. (If she needs to drop her staff to cast the spell, she will.) Okay, I have another question that may seem stupid, however it's something that's bugging me with P2e. Ness had her shield raised in her round 1 action and she has shield block which helps her in that her shield takes the brunt of the dmg being inflicted upon her (until it goes past its HP and breaks). In Round 2, the kobolds attacked and she sustained the full 8 dmg (which would/should have been mitigated by the shield block). Now, this is my question: The shield is raised for a round. Does that mean a round until Ness next turn? Or on the new round no matter her turn? And, to me it's ridiculous to keep raising a shield each turn and losing an action. Why wouldn't the shield remain up unless otherwise decided (like another action taken) by a character?

Okay. A point of confusion/contention. Since Ness couldn't take her Round 2 actions before the kobolds, then her striding in 20 ft (which happened in Round 1) would have placed her in the square right behind Leo (where kobold 6 is currently/now standing). Her moving 10 ft back was her Round 2 actions which were nixed when the kobolds attacked.

Since Airi and Leo moved down/in, yes Ness followed suit and strode in 20 ft in Round 1. I did say she’d move in once the human congestion wasn’t so bad. There’s only so much slipping past Ness could do from the back. ;)

I already took Ness' round 1 actions. So, this is Round 2? I had Ness move into the chamber 20 ft last round. I'm going to roll Perception to see if she can see anymore this round. Perception (T) DC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Her eyes scanned the warren/chamber. "There're three more kobolds coming from the sleeping chambers!" she warned her friends. Raising her shield before her (with accompanying Shield Block, AC now 17) (◆) to afford her some protection from their spears, Ness retrieved the staff from her back (manipulate ◆) and then moved back 10 ft (◆) to better assess the situation/threat.

Over her years, she'd smelt worse, yet the stench was still ripe in the underground chamber. Ness, by weaving side to side to see past the taller companions standing before her, noted the trio at the table and she grumbled how she'd wished they were just proper lizards because then would be able to deal with them. As it was, she couldn't speak to the reptile men in their own old dragon tongue - only Tann could. She'll have to teach me, once we're out of this place. Fortunately they were speaking in the Common tongue this time. Ness made a face and almost spluttered at the creatures calling themselves mighty dragons Round 1 In quieter voice, the druidess complained/chided/instructed, "Too squishy in this hallway. Move forward, if you please." Then muttering to herself, "Tann's better than all of us in talking with these pests." Then a little louder (although not loud enough for the kobolds to hear her) to the wild half-elf girl, she offered, "If ye need help charming these three, I'll do what I can. They ain't full animals, so my powers of persuasion won't do. However, my dwarven charm may do nicely," winking at Tann at the slight jest. Waiting for Tann to break the silence of their group, Ness tossed in quickly, Diplomacy (T) aid to Tann with the kobolds: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 "Hello! Come out peacefully, mighty dragons, and we'll give you some proper fish tributes. No need for fighting, what do you say?" Once the others in front had become moving forward, she would move too (taking an action to move 20 ft maximum this round, following the leaders/three in front, so for now delaying then moving(◆) when she can.) Ness drew the shield from her back (◆ retrieving: manipulating an item), readying some protection, in case the pests didn't want to talk nicely and then she waited, hoping to gauge any reply/nervousness/body language etc after Tann and she had spoken. (◆Sense Motive on kobolds. It says GM secretly rolls for us... so DG, you're' it!)

Verdi moved to stand her leafy self atop Ness' shoulder as the druidess moved to return tools and pouch to pack and place her shield upon her back. Looking across at Tann, the druidess watched her briefly with the priest and then in the Sylvan tongue she quietly mumbled, only for Verdi's ears, "Bidh an fheadhainn òga sin a ’dìochuimhneachadh am modh. Chan e facal taingealachd prìs àrd airson pàigheadh airson slànachadh." Sylvan translation:
"These young ones forget their manners. A word of gratitude is not a high price to pay for healing."
I'm just go ahead and assume Tann picked up the coins from the fountain as Ness asked and holding them in safekeeping. ;p Ness made her way toward the basket and food and collected a little of the trout and fruit as well as a small radish for Verdi. Taking out the pouch, that held some of the good soil she used for their healing, she placed some on the floor of the cavern and cutting the small radish into smaller pieces, mixed them into the soil. She placed Verdi atop the soil and radish mixture, so the nature spirit could take in some nourishment. Ness had heard Julril speak of the war, and then asked in her usual forthright manner, "If you wish to join our wee quest, then you're welcome. Will you remain in town or will you be returning to war shortly?"

"Well, pie does sound good, but first we fix the injured. Come, Airi and then Tann. I'll let the girls explain about the scaly nuisances as I tend to their wounds." Once the coins were retrieved from the fountain, Ness set her pack down and removed her healer's tools and pouch containing her herbs and began tending to their dreadful bruising with a keen and familiar practice. Tann's wounds were worse than Airi's as the wild girl seemed to have taken the brunt of water spray. (Ness spends 10 mins treating each girl for a total of 20 mins.) Basic Reflex Save DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 (5 dmg. Is this then mitigated by her upraised shield as per the description of Shield Block? Or is the bludgeoning water not considered a 'physical attack' and the shield is only good against weapon dmg? Just trying to figure out these rules via the wording. Thanks! I'll play out any dmg she may need to heal if she is hurt (1/2 dmg) in my next post. I guess Ness and Julril will have to work out the healing of allies in game as both are healers.) ==== Even with her short and sturdy stature, Ness managed to turn just the right way at the right moment, with her shield raised, to waylay the true force of the water sprayed at her. It was a small miracle in itself that didn't turn turn her thick ankle at the Tann-esque-styled feat of grace. Ness laughed out at triumph! "Well, I'll be. It seems I can be light o' foot when truly put upon." The leaf leshy inside her pocket shook with laughter at her mistress' jest. Verdi climbed up over the rim of the pocket and looked out, pleased to feel the air on her small, pretty face, eager to see the new man. With the mermaid fountain finally stopped from its rather forceful spitting, Ness stowed her staff across her back and moved down toward the others. Leo wrote:

Round 3 The voice was familiar and then as he strode past her, the man's visage caught her by surprise as he had been away fighting in a war and now he was standing in the warehouse with them. "Well met, Julril," is all she could muster in the moment as she readied herself against the fountain's next spray against her two female companions and now Julril who was inside the chamber with them. Once again, the druidess ◆ raised her shield high before her to protect her from any stray force of water. (AC is 17 and activated Shield Block.) Then she drew her staff from her back (◆ interact: manipulate) and carefully slipped around the cleric, into the trouble-filled chamber and ◆ strode 20 ft to the opposite side of the pool where the nearest mechanisms had been disabled earlier by the deft Airi. There, in her place by the jutting rocks, wooden shield held afore her, Ness waited with staff in hand. Since the magic I prepared for the day is almost out, I'll have to fight alongside my friends the old-fashioned way.

Over the earlier years of knowing one another, it could have been a playful ribbing between them, with Ness being the more stubborn in that she believes she has the right of it - revering nature and all her abundance. ;) The war may have changed Julril, so it may take Ness a beat or two to find her jesting footing with him. Both being healers has been their connection in the past and may bring them back to being their usual bantering/good natured disputing friends. :)

Round 2 amendment Oops. Sorry, I forgot about the one hour immunity thing. Duly noted now. Okay. Trying to figure out what she could do that would take 1 action. I'll have her Take Cover, by pressing her body against the wall to the left of her in the small hallway (taking better advantage of the cover provided). Ness isn't sure how far the water sprays reach exactly and she's trying to stay out of their immediate fire line.

Did Leo back out/away from spitting fountain - right into the middle of the other chamber? Just saw that he's icon is moved on the map and trying to figure out why he's so far into the other chamber. ==== Round 2 Seeing Airi had done some good with her fiddling of the mechanisms, Ness called out, "I'm not good at such fiddlin', so I'll leave that up to you and Tann! I'll try to aid ye in another way." ◆ Raising her shield in place, again, in order to better protect herself (she has shield block), hoping the spot she was standing on within the doorway would grant her further protection from the immediate water spurts, ◆ Ness began to cast, again, calling upon the Wights of the Land to guide Tann's hand or mind against the fountain's foul folly. The druideess then ◆ cast a second time, this time targeting Airi, hoping to aid her in the cause of fiddling with the new whatchamacallit. Cast Guidance on both Tann and Airi: a +1 status bonus to one attack roll, Perception check, saving throw, or skill check the target attempts before Ness' turn next round.

Welcome, djdust. I tried accessing the link to your cleric character and it said I needed to get access. Can you please change the privacy setting or I'll ask to be granted access.

Round 1 ◆ Recall Knowledge Craft DC 20: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 Peering past Tannakin's waist, she saw the fountain spin around and water-jet leap from its mermaid mouth. "Careful, all! The fountain spins and shoots water, although I've no idea how it works." Ness raised her shield (◆) in her off hand in order to better protect herself. (She has Shield Block.) Then she began to cast (◆), her voice clear, calling upon the nature spirits in the Sylvan tongue, to guide the mind/hand of her nearest companion half-elf. "Le do ghliocas agus do ghràs, stiùir i, Wights of the Land, gus an urrainn dhi cruinneachadh an aghaidh a ’chunnart ùr seo." Common translation:
"With your wisdom and grace, guide her, Wights of the Land, so she can rally against this new threat."

DG, if you wish to bring in a fifth player, I'm not opposed to the idea either.

With DG's kindly bot of Ness healing everyone (thank you!) - those who received the healing, can you please change your alias/status lines to show full HP? It helps me keep track of what healing needs to be done in game. Thanks kindly. :) === Still concerned with her depleted store of berries, Ness mumbled under her breath yet acknowledged Tann's and Airi's gratitude for the healing she'd provided. Hearing Tann speak of walking through walls to kill kobolds, Ness clicked her tongue at the sheer lack of self-preservation the dear half-elf possessed. "Lass, stem your wild abandon, I beg thee. My healing work taxes me and Verdi - think of us before you go walkin' through walls. Have mind where you tread. You have my leave to kill the baddest of the kobolds, but do so mindfully." The druidess' eyes twinkled and then she winked at Tann; knowing full well the girl ran at full steam and not have at half sail. Perception(T) (DC 20): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Ness then glanced at the mermaid statue at the centre of the pool and was caught by the lovely marble creature's features to notice much of anything else.

I’m around and still wishing to play. I hope that’s alright? I was checking the boards and only showed up one in game post and now there’s 6 as I was waiting to see when everyone was back. Sorry for making you think I’ve disappeared or have lost interest in playing.

I'm cat sitting a kitten and my almost 2 year old cat hates her (with COVID he hasn't had much chance for socialisation, so his skills are lacking). So, I'm having to keep the cats separated in the house and catering to both their physical and emotional needs. It's crazy! And, tiring business. LOL I'll post when I'm able to this weekend. Sorry for the hold up!

Good luck with settling into the new place, DG. @Tannakin: There's been a new complication with my health, but I'm working through it with the help of my doctor. Thanks for checking in with me. :)

Excellent news re finding a place to live. Good luck with the relocation of the fam, DG. Safe driving. I'm still going through the wars health wise (going to see a doc again tomorrow).

Round 4 Seeing that her two fighting friends were quite injured and there was still a xulgath remaining, Ness began to draw upon the natural energies around her, weaving the light into healing power to channel out into her friends. With Verdi's help at the top of her pocket, Ness called upon the spirit's grace and strength to exclude the wounded xulgath from the natural healing she was weaving and giving.(◆◆◆) (If this is allowable, using a hero point to exclude the xulgath from the 30 ft emanation of positive energy she is channelling.) Positive Channelled healing to both Tann and Airi: 1d8 ⇒ 7 (This brings Airi back up to 16/18 HP and Tann to 12/19 HP.)

Is Tann at -5 HP at present? === Round 3 Seeing her wild elf companion fall, Ness immediately tapped into the natural magic surrounding her, feeling her connection through Verdi as the leshy shivered with life restoring energy inside her cloak pocket. Speaking and gesturing, the druidess directed the healing spell toward the unconscious Tann. (◆◆)(T) Spell Touch Attack (30ft) with Heal on Tann: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 <=== not sure if this roll is necessary, but just in case it is required. Healing a living creature-Tann: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 hp returned (I think that brings Tann back up to 8 HP, if she started at -5.) Ness then moved/strode 5ft (◆) to the very edge of the cliff to get closer to her friends taking the hits from the Xulgraths; just in case she needed to jump down and help out as best as she could. === I know Airi's been hit as well (taken 9 dmg), but if Ness channelled positive energy via the heal spell at this point, then she'd only restore 1d8 HP and to all living creatures in a 30 ft burst, which I assume would also include the wounded Xulgraths and that would undo all the risky work done by both fighters so far. Shrugs. (If needs be, Tann could use one of her hero points to avoid death. This can be done when your dying condition would increase.) ===

Round 2 Remaining in her position just above the fray, Ness continued to keep her shield raised (◆) and began to cast, gesturing and vocalising in order to stir the spirit powers into granting her the magic she needed. (◆◆) (Casting Tanglefoot) From her hand, a vine covered in sticky sap appeared. Flicking her hand toward Xulgath #2 (nearest Airi), it lashed itself to the stinky creature. (30 ft range) Spell Attack with Tanglefoot on Xulgath #2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 If successful, Xulgath #2 takes a –10-foot circumstance penalty to its Speeds for 1 round. It can attempt to Escape against the Spell DC 17 to remove the penalty. === Ness' AC is currently 17. She also has Shield Block.
