I did some looking into this as well recently due to my players asking about how much a ship would cost and how they can get one.
The best way I can think of is allowing them to purchase a ship with credits, which means they either have to stay at the starting point for a bit to raise the funds or get a loan to purchase one.
Now here is where my math comes in. An unskilled worker earns 1 credit per hour on high end (Core page 235). So with this in mind lets say he works 40 hours a week for 52 weeks he would actually earn 2080 credits before expenses.
Now for basic living expenses he would need food, water, and place to sleep at night. So with that in mind I did a little looking and I found poor food to cost 1 credit per meal (Core page 233). So figuring it would cost about 21 credits a week for food (3 meals a day x 7 days a week). Or 84 credits per month or 1092 credits per year.
Now as for lodging (Core page 235) it cost 1 credit per night to sleep in a pod so for 7 nights it would cost 7 credits, 28 credits per month, or 364 credits per year.
Now remember these are rough estimates. So if you work everything out you would make 2080 credits per year - 1092 credits for food - 364 credits for lodging. That would leave you about 624 credits available to you a year as a unskilled worker to spend as you wish or 12 credits a week.
Now most adventurers do better and we all know that but the unskilled worker would have to spend almost 7.5 years to afford a tier one ship using the table if he didn't spend any of the free credits available to him so he could purchase his ship.
With all of the above calculated and reading the thread I have agreed that we need an easier way to convert BP into Credits. So how about what I propose below?
Tier Build Points Credits BP/Credit
0.25 25 625 25
0.33 30 990 33
0.5 40 2000 50
1 55 5500 100
2 75 15000 200
3 95 28500 300
4 115 46000 400
5 135 67500 500
6 155 93000 600
7 180 126000 700
8 205 164000 800
9 230 207000 900
10 270 270000 1000
11 310 341000 1100
12 350 420000 1200
13 400 520000 1300
14 450 630000 1400
15 500 750000 1500
16 600 960000 1600
17 700 1190000 1700
18 800 1440000 1800
19 900 1710000 1900
20 1000 2000000 2000
This makes the lower tiers a bit more expensive and the higher tiers a bit easier to get but it makes it easy to calculate.
What you do is take the build points x 100 x tier = cost of ship in credits.
Now if you look at cost of equipment, weapons, and armor they don't use BP just credits so that is all arbitrary based of if you think it is worth the price or not. If you don't agree with price try to barter the price down or just pass on it. Some you may find well worth the price so in that case barter or buy it is up to you.
In the end it is up to you as a GM to decide how you want to use the system all the players care about is that you are consistent with your decisions.
I was looking through my friends Pathfinder Companion book: Taldor, Echoes of Glory and it has a map of Oppara but doesn't have an indicator showing how big the city is. It also does not give the demographic information on the city either.
I was wondering if someone from Piazo or with knowledge of this information could present it here for me please. I have an idea for Taldor and Oppara specifically and really could use this information to help with my planning for an adventure there.
Thanks
In the PRD it states: "Vampires cannot enter a private home or dwelling unless invited in by someone with the authority to do so."
My question is what is considered a private home or dwelling? Is a inn a private dwelling, is a business a private dwelling, or is a temple a private dwelling?
Story Awards: Feel free to award Story Awards when
players conclude a major storyline or make an important
accomplishment. These awards should be worth double
the amount of experience points for a CR equal to the APL.
Particularly long or difficult story arcs might award even
more, at your discretion as GM.
The above is directly from the Core rulebook page 399.
Wanted to thank the individuals who GM'd Pathfinder this weekend at Gamicon, our group had a wonderful time dying this year but have found the individuals running Gamicon always helpful and a joy to game with. We are looking forward to playing, or even maybe volunteering to GM at future Gamicon events.
This was my 5th Gamicon and unfortunately I was unable to go last year but am very glad I could make it again this year. I enjoyed each and every table/group I was lucky enough to be a part of and hope in the future to run across them again. Many friendship were made and a good time was had so THANK YOU to everyone who helped make Gamicon a success this year and a Special thank you to Todd Morgan and his fellow GM's for making this so much fun for me and my fellow gamers.

If a Half Elf has a child with a Human then the child is human so in this case I would say the same for your child it would be human maybe a bit on the tall side of human.
As for stats I would say add the parents stats and divide by 2.
20, 12, 18, 10, 14, 12 (Father)
18, 12, 14, 11, 15, 10 (Mother)
38, 24, 32, 21, 29, 22 now divide those stats in half rounding down.
So child's stats would look as follows:
19, 12, 16, 10, 14, 11 and since it is human you would have the ability to add 2 to one of the above stats but I would most likely not add it to strength or constitution since those were the main stats and I would most likely add to one of the stats that were rounded down so either Intelligence or Wisdom.
Then do a little role playing of the child, is he/she rebellious? If so then they likely won't take the class of either of the parent. If the child is a momma's child then they may take on the class of the mother and vice versa if they are a papa's child.
As for the sex have the GM randomly roll behind the scenes to determine the sex of the child.
Okay sorry for the delay, I had to peruse the Dragons Demand before giving my 2 cents on it. I do believe this would be a good one to work thru with one player with little tweaking from the GM.
I do like how they have it laid out in a series of mini adventures with in the grand adventure and from what I seen it does leave a little leeway to slip in a module you may find or like in spots.
The beginning is rather useful also for it works on getting PC familiar with area/people and sets up the plot rather well from what I seen. It focuses on all area's of the Pathfinder RPG from battles, to skill checks, to role playing.
I personally am looking forward to running a few players thru this myself now or at least maybe even playing it.
This module should take your character from 1st thru about 7th level or so.
Hope this helps.
I just purchased Dragons Demand so will take a look thru it tonight and respond back to this post if I believe it would work for a solo player.
We are in the middle of Jade regent and I wouldn't say that is as friendly to solo play unless your an experienced GM which you stated you are not. So I personally would avoid that one if I was you.
The other option is to find a few modules to run the player thru such as the Following:
Crypt of the Everflame
Mask of the living god
City of Golden Death
But then again it will take the PC understanding to play cautiously and the GM will have to make a few adjustments (understand it is just one PC).
I have played a few adventure paths and believe the best one for one GM and one player is Skull and Shackles adventure path. The basic premise of it is player(s) get shanghi'd into working as crew for pirate ship and eventually work towards becoming pirate king. Would be great to do as a single player and easy to scale and pick up extra help if you feel PC needs it.

I first would like to say how refreshing it is to see a family spending time together. I personally think it is wonderful that you all role play together. It builds creativity, helps hone math skills, reading, and other skills they will use in life.
Now to answer your question. I would advise you keep it to as few books as possible. The nice thing that Pathfinder did is they put almost everything you really need right in their core book.
Follow the "KISS" method, keep it simple stupid. I found that kids, like you said like the battles, but also like to roll dice. So keep the battles moving quick so the children don't get bored while waiting for their turn. Its the GM's job to keep everyone involved and interested.
As for basic party make up that really shouldn't matter, let the kids play whatever character they want as long as they can do it from the CORE BOOK. I have played in a group where all 5 people playing were rogues, the nice thing with Pathfinder is it allows for variety. Each rogue basically filled a niche, one was strength based and was the front line guy, another was a dex based fighter type and used finesse over strength, another used daggers, and we all carried wands of cure light so we could all use the skill "use magic device" to use them to heal.
It is the GM's job to make it work. But by the sounds of it you are kind of new to Pathfinder too so I would advise the following party composition:
Fighter (Includes: Paladin, Ranger, Barbarian, or Monk)
Cleric
Rogue (Includes: Bard but I advise to stay away from this class as a beginner)
Three very straight forward simple classes. The cleric fills the healing need and would be the 2nd best fighter in the group, the rogue fills the trap finding need, and of course the fighter fills the meat shield need. We currently playing in 3 party group and this basically covers most of the needed situations that arise.
Now as the children gain more experience and want to expand their abilities, you could allow them to multi-class so the rogue could eventually become a rogue 5th level/ wizard 3rd level for example. This would open up the children to another class and allow them to learn more of the game.
As for skills which play a very important part the above class make up covers all the knowledge skills except geography and nature. But any class can take any skill they just may not be as proficient with it.
So from my experience the following knowledge skills are most common:
Knowledge- History
Knowledge- Arcane
Knowledge- Local
Knowledge- religion
The nice thing about being a GM is you can adjust to your group, you can usually switch some of the knowledge skills for another so instead of religion if they don't have it try knowledge planes. Or for history try switching it out for knowledge local the key is "KEEP THE GAME interesting" so do what needs to be done to keep the action going.
Other common skills are(no specific order)
Perception
Linguistics (Just a fun one not always taken)
survival
disable device
heal
appraise
acrobatics (Nice one to have as a rogue)
Spellcraft (Goes with knowledge arcana and detect magic)
Stealth
Diplomacy or Intimidate
Bluff (Nice for rogue again) works with faint feat
The main thing to remember is to have fun and as the GM your allowed to fudge rules to keep game interesting and fun.
Good luck to you and your family and hope this helps.
Oh one last thing to remember since their are only 3 people in this adventuring group. Remind them to be patient, they can always run away from a fight but should never rush into one. Also remind them about team work for that goes a long way in helping group to survive at times.

I just want to thank you for your piece on Magic Item Creation. I found it very insightful and useful and plan on using what I learned from it.
It is just a shame that I did not know you had your own Website or I would of gone to it sooner. I am now kicking myself for not looking sooner.
Keep up the good work been a big fan for some time now and thank you once again.
Our group has just started and ran into this issue due to druid companion putting us over the limit for the caravan. We ended up going with a horse train and a additional supply wagon.
The thing we focused on is this wagon was just to get us from point A to point B. So we stocked it with some repair materials, extra food, and just enough trade goods to keep the wagons supplied, we were not looking to make profit on the trip.
We also did not hire any additional NPC's for we wanted as few to know about the trip as possible to help avoid trouble for we knew with Ameiko not knowing much about her past that there must of been a good reason.
As God, I revoke those extra years SKR and your term is almost at a end. I would like to be the first to thank you for your dedication. It is good to be God, Muhahahahahahahaha.....
Here is another site with more tags you can check out. Hope these links help.
I tried to follow the K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple stupid) method this year. Tried to keep it as simple as possible. Kept description simple, the mechanics as simple as possible and the theme simple. Just hoping it works this year so I wait and see.
Another possibility would be Gygax Magazine. It is relatively new and can be found http://gygaxmagazine.com/
Thanks for the suggestion Pirate Rob, we have discussed this but we already are doing the Adventure paths just finished one and just started Skull and Shackles.
Would like to personally eventually get some kind of con going here in Dubuque but need to first set up event or two to test to see who else in Dubuque is interested in Pathfinder Society outside my group.
Todd, there was 6 of us from Dubuque at least in my group there may have been a few more.
I personally would like to get something going here in Dubuque just unsure where we could hold it and how to go about starting something. If nothing else we may have to come up there to play on the weekend again. I know Houze would like that for he suggested we need to come up there and play more.
Thanks to Todd and his fellow GM's who made this years event one of the best yet. Looking so forward to next year being even better.
Thanks again guys from all of us in Dubuque who attended. Oh almost forgot to thank Dan and the guys for a great Midnight Madness session. I was treated like one of the regulars and look forward to teaming up with you all again next year. To my Barbarian friend don't eat the watermelon...
I use open office can you modify it so it works in Open Office?
Have you thought about not giving the ship shares and just using the money made from the sale of the magic items sold to cover ship cost? This would allow more booty to go to crew which would allow for crew then to purchase magic items.
Woot looking forward to 3rd year in a row participating at this Con, me and my friends have had a blast playing our Rogue group the last two years and have been debating on running them again or trying something new to throw off the DM's. LOL.
To Clark, I am glad I was wondering if that was the case when I first read this. I must be getting old ....

No Jay159, what Sean is saying is even if you enter late you still have a chance so people shouldn't be discouraged from entering an item in late.
Don't be to hard on yourself gbonehead for the DM is always right;) LOL.
I want to take this time out to thank Sean and Jerral for taking time out of there busy schedules to help support Superstar. I believe it is in its own way why this contest is so popular every year and continues to grow and I for one am proud to say I am a part of it win or lose. So thank you to all the judges for working so hard to make this an enjoyable experience for us all.
I say we make each judge write in 300 words or less why his choice should win.
If I recall weren't you involved with some of those forgotten rums books, SKR? LOL, I knew there was something about you missing. I finally found it, it was the CRUNCH !!!!!
Come now you say maybe next year but there is no time like the present. So why procrastinate, enter today. I mean Clark even came back to be a judge this year what more can you ask.
Neil, you speaking about your comment being a favorite or the item? LOL
Wow makes me want to break into this field even more after hearing your sidetrack Clark. I believe that the people who you work with mean a lot even more then pay considering you work with them and spend time with them sometimes more then your own family.
I would think a natural lycanthrope would be a curse where as a infected person would be a disease. That is why when you get afflicted by lycanthropy you have 3 days to remove disease after that the disease would take affect and can no longer be removed by remove disease and why a remove curse wouldn't work on a infected individual.
Wolfsbane is a weed and as such would work as a natural way of removing the specific disease of lycanthropy and hence why it would no longer work after 3 days when the disease finally took hold.
Just my .02 cents.
I was reading this due to me just starting a Magus and as one of the prerequisites it requires Weapon Expertise as a class feature. What classes have that as a class feature?
I am wondering if I am missing something or if this was a typo?
Thanks in advance.
What is the reason for me entering this contest? Well I guess you could say I have always wanted to write. This gives me a vehicle to test myself against others. To get honest feedback, some of which I may not like.
I believe, and I guess this year will show if it is true or not, that I have made strides from last year, my first year entering. If I continue to improve my writing skills from year to year then win or lose this contest has proven to be a benefit to me and for that I thank Paizo and this community.
Thanks everyone. I have used the thesaurus and that is how I got my name but I guess it wasn't as unique as I originally thought :(
I am working on a idea but while doing research I found an item with the name I was going to use for mine. The item doesn't do what mine does.
I was wondering should I change the name of it or is it okay to use the name, will it deduct from my item?

who do you think invented the force choke? The gentleman who played, but did not voice, Darth Vader was English. We have been on the Dark Side for far longer than you can possibly imagine. Why do you think so many British actors play the villain in your movies?
I would say they play villains in our movies because with their accents, it makes no sense to have them play the good guy.
I should of known better then to click on one of Neil's spoiler alerts again. You think I would of learned after running across them a couple dozen times last year.
Now excuse me while I try to do something with my burnt eyebrows and hair.

I think everyone is forgetting one important thing here. The fact is Neil is a Judge and as a Judge he didn't have to tell us, as potential contestants what it is that he is going to deduct for but he did. So Neil all kidding aside I want to thank you for pointing out a flaw that has continued to pop up every year. I also want to thank you for this rant for you are right, we have been shown more then once every year how to spell Wondrous starting with the first task.
So thank you Neil for sharing with us one thing you are going to be looking for this year. Also thank you for your support, your feedback, and your time over the years.
One thing I think we tend to forget on message boards is not to take things personally. I also think we tend to forget common respect and for that I want to start by saying THANK YOU NEIL. Something that isn't said enough during this competition in my opinion.
So to start out I want to thank the following in no specific order:
Sean Reynolds
Clark Peterson
Neil Spicer
Ryan Dancey
Matthew Morris
Erik Mona
Lisa Stevens
Vic Wertz
James Jacobs
Jason Bulmahn
everyone else who has worked hard to make superstar a success
and last but not least the Piazo community for sharing their ideas, thoughts, and suggestions with us all to help us make our writing better.
Thanks Matthew, now I will have that dreaded image in my head for the rest of the day. I hope you have a Wonderful day because I know I will have a Wondrous one.
So by the looks of things I will not need a new one of these:
Eric if your out there
let our Clark lurk
for it isn't his fault
and what will it hurt
To let Clark lurk
He has judged before
and done a good job
so reward him well
and give in to this mob
let Clark lurk
So please join me
in this final plea
to let Clark lurk
Come on Eric, PLEASE
let Clark lurk
Let Clark lurk
let Clark lurk
Eric you know
it won't hurt
to let Clark lurk
LOL, couldn't resist pulling that out and dusting it off. Congrats Clark and welcome back to the warm friendly folds of Madness :)
I for one am glad to see you are back and look forward to your analysis and feedback this year. It was your feedback from years prior that gave me the courage to try and enter last year for the first time. I again will enter my item, sit back patiently, and pray for the first round to end. Which we all know drags on forever when you enter your item early.

Just curious, Thanks. Gamicon has been fully reported, can you let me know what your PFS number is and who was the judge for those two scenarios? There were quite a few hard to read numbers so it is possible that they were reported incorrectly. My Pathfinder # 18876, Scenario #2-01 was Gm'd by L Sweeney GM# 5834 and Scenario #2-02 was Gm'd by L Sweeney GM# 5834. Then Pathfinder Society Special "Year of the Shadow Lodge" was Gm'd by James GM#2871, I was given credit for that one by the looks of it.
Thanks for at least looking into this I know we had a blast and plan on doing it again next year.

Well it is March 17th and I just checked and still nothing has been posted except the last adventure I ran which was the lodge event. As this was my first time doing Pathfinder Society I just was curious when the events I was in would be recorded and then how long until I notice them as being registered?
Thanks again.
