UPDATE! This happened yet again. I could have sworn that there had been listed a fix for it at one point in time but no clue what that might have been as it's been a year.

Just letting you know it's still a goblin running around in the system. My group got it all worked out so we're good but others might not be as fortunate?

This information can be found on the PaizoCon page under the badge options; the hotel is going to be able to provide better information about discounts than we are, depending on your stay/room configuration.
Not that it will make me stay away but I was rather sad to see they didn't have any tower room options for the discount this year.
Sign up for the Hilton Rewards program; ask for an upgrade. I’ve stated in the towers every year except the first year I went.

I have the rewards program - and we do request the upgrade but we've never gotten it. Last year we managed to book a deluxe outright so that was nice. In the end, I decided it was worth the money to go directly through the rewards to book to make sure I get it. My husband will be nearing his semiannual surgery at that point so we'll definitely need the convenience.

Woot! Room booked, now I just have to wait till payday for tickets. Can't wait!

I'm totally on board with the visual design; it's much more clear-cut but I would prefer the prof mods stay at the -2, 0, +1, +2, +3.

Bolster, Conditions, Spell DC, Spell Roll, Class DC, Flat-Footed, Proficiency Modifier, Healing (Recovery), Rest, Recovery, Regaining HP, Resonance, Invested, Expert Weapon (Weapon Quality, Non-Standard Weapons, Higher Quality Weapons), Cantrips, Dents, Repair, Flank/Flanking, Travel Speed (Speed, Overland Speed).

These are the most common ones I can think of that I've had to look up. All in all they were relatively easy to find in the Index but I found the Traits and Glossary Appendices far more useful than the Index itself. Usually the Index would take me to an entry in the book that was far more convoluted than the Glossary or Trait entry - especially when I was looking to verify a calculation like Spell DC or the like.

It's supposed to be on there - John Compton posted a few days ago that he'd be checking into it and trying to get it up so we could report on it ASAP. So hopefully soon. My advice would be to keep checking back every couple of days or so... not the best solution but at least they are aware of it.

I think I'm still floored that there are people upset that they offered a printed book for sale - as if that was a MUST. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything when they're offering all the PDF's for free and heck, if you wanted, you could print that out yourself to make a "book" if you don't want to pay Paizo for it. I just don't understand getting upset because they're offering an optional service of ordering a printing for you and charging for it since they get charged for that service. And it isn't as if it came out of nowhere... people specifically asked for it and it was popular, and so they did it and now people are mad, offended even, that they're doing what was asked for them.

All in all I Love the system, I Love that we get to playtest the system, I Love that we get to provide our feedback.

It's not perfect, it's still in the working stages and I plan to make sure I put in as much detail as possible to help out, but it's a very fun system to run and play for me and my group so far. I know that not all the things I think could be altered will be in the final run and I'm okay with that - they've to consider an entire world full of gamers and not just my table.

I also find it funny that people continue to argue that there's not enough "options" but this isn't even the final release, it's a playtest. It's a sample of all the potential and not meant to be every possible option ever - quite the opposite, it's a framework to make sure that they can spend the next ten years (give or take) easily adding in more options for people that will add flavor, expand possibilities, and extend the horizons of their game.

I'm actually okay with either - I just wanted things in a different place that I was more comfortable with. My gaming group has been using my home designed sheets for ages and wanted it, so I made it.

Funny story - I actually thought I was creating a Landscape sheet, just reorganizing it, until I printed it and realized I'd never set it to Landscape. I'd been so zoomed in on my screen and just missed it.

Either way I"m happy with how it came out and I might eventually do a landscape one anyway just because I can.

I'd agree... it takes forever to see an improvement in stats and seeing that you get that last boost at level 20 is rather disheartening since most people never get there and even if they do, it's brief as so many games end there.

Are there exceptions, yes - always.

Still, I like the idea of the two bumps every two levels. It matches the rest of the feats and skill increases better than one set every five.

Along the lines of this... given you can only use Battle Medic once a day per person (success or failure), so it can't be spammed/abused, it's DC is quite ridiculous. I think it could afford to be lowered to a 15 for it's basic use.

There's a few threads on the boards already with different variations of character sheets. I've a very simple Portrait oriented one I'm willing to share.

Custom Playtest C-sheet

Very much looking forward to see if I can't get one of these for my Gaming Club I advise for at the HS I work for. I know a lot of the kids that were there last year were new to the systems and it'd be an awesome way for them to learn.

I'm thinking also that the Counter Performance, while currently seemingly impossible as it's written, is likely meant to be one reaction with it's Trigger requiring both verbal and somantic casting components available - thus you would have to be able to talk and have a hand free to use the reaction. It just doesn't come off like that since usually when spells have two casting components they take two actions. Honestly I think it'd make more sense to just bring it to a single verbal casting/reaction requirement and not worry about the somatic that way it's in line with the casting rules for everything else.

The Will DC of an observer would be that observer's Will Save Modifier +10. So... say someone was watching you who had a Will Save mod of +3, you'd roll a d20 and add your stuff and compare that to a Will DC of 13. If you got more than that, you succeed, if you got less, then you fail.

Someone will surely correctly me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it now - something that would have been an opposed roll before, like perception vs. stealth, is now a roll vs. DC. So someone trying to spy you if you're trying to be stealthy is your stealth roll vs. their Perception DC which would be 10 + the observer's Perception modifier.

Under spell repotoire for Bard it says they gain 1 1st level spell and 4 cantrips and then says they gain 2 second level spells at 3rd, is this intentional? Based on the line following that states "even though you gain slots and repotoire at the same rate" it makes me feel like this is unintentional, especially since sorcerer gets 2 1st levels and they're the other spontaneous caster.

Counter Performance is impossible to use because it costs 2 reactions

Fascinating Performance states "against Will DC" but I cannot find context for a "Will DC" anywhere, only a will saving throw and skill DCs. Do they receive a save or is it a flat 10+Will check for the Performance?

I thought the same too about the Bard's 1st level spells until I read more into it. It's first level class feature Muse will give it an additional spell based on the feat so that it starts with two 1st level spells and will ultimately get a third later.

Edited for error.

This, and my party didn't know he was the boss either but he had had time to prepare for them because they rolled really badly on breaking down the door. All in all, it only took them about 2-3 rounds to kill him, but it was rough and two of them ended up at 0.

It all very simply depending on how the dice were falling and what actions were taken in what order, etc.

That's been bugging me too and with healing being in fairly short supply in some groups, it'd be useful to be able to take a couple of those skill feats at level one to make up for it.

Yet, that would make that feat a "must have" and I tend to frown on that as well, but we get enough options that it wouldn't be horrible.

Can someone who thinks this is a problem please explain to me exactly how a class ability that states "you gain this power" with no restrictions or provisos is not explicitly and expressly giving you access to that power?

Because I don't really see how that could be any clearer. I mean it's right there in black and white "you gain this power".

Sorry, I can't... because a class ability that explicity states that you get a power, gives you the power, and thus access.

As it was mentioned earlier, these two are reading WAY into the rules. I had a flashback to those old Geico commercials with the old ladies and her "Wall" of vacation photos ala Facebook and the other exclaiming, "That's not how this works! That's not how any of this works!" And then I promised myself I wouldn't post in this thread but alas, I failed that Will save.

The playtest rules could use some cleaning up, which is normal as it's a playtest, but this is definitely not one of those things that's unclear and as someone else also said above... common sense. Sadly it though, it appears that the rarity on that's been changed to Uncommon though.

I like this and I'm fully on board with it. I think it makes perfect sense that if a God is going to grant you some of their power then you'd darn well better be pretty closely on board with doing the things they do, want, or be willing to do those sorts of things to further their agenda.

At first I was in the potential houserule camp for Asmodeus for LN clerics but the more I think about it, the more it just makes sense that they'd be LE flat out. We've already been told that there will be ways for splinter groups eventually... and moreso, assuming (potentially bad word, I know) that some of the other classes get brought over, or made into archetypes, some of them would make for appropriate LN divine agents of Asmodeus as well. Additionally, I find it odd that there is a Demonic bloodline for Sorcerers but not a Fiendish one, probably something to eventually come in either the final cut or future stuff... but that'd likely be an option too.

Ultimately, it makes the clerics more purposeful and less cookie-cutter and I'm all for that.

Seems to me it'd be perfectly logical to create a wall on the diagonal by using the same rules for distance as you would movement.

So a 50 ft. wall would cover 6 diagonal squares (45 ft.) and because you're on the diagonal you accept that you lose 5 feet to shift it.

Granted I know there are some people that would have a fit over losing a precious five feet but it'd not be hard to adjust the description to say something along the lines of "any additional distance that cannot cover the full amount of the diagonal is lost/wasted".

Between me and a dragon, I'd take that 45 ft.

The cross reference part is killing me. There are no Expert weapons or armor on the treasure lists... but a + 1 weapon is a lvl 4 so expert has to be a 2 or 3... logically. But it's not there. You have to hunt it down to find it as a small blurb in the section on different quality items.

So far I like the rules, like the icons... like the layout of the monster stat blocks, but I HATE the character sheet and I don't like having to do a word search on my pdf to find something that should logically be in one place (like what does 'expert' do to armor) since that does matter for the first part of the playtest... only to find it somewhere else.

It's good stuff overall - just a ton of typos and very badly organized.

Ngai M'katu wrote:
They said during a panel they would look into it, but not right away. One of the things they wanted to test is how readable and easy-to-use the book format was without a cheat sheet.

Thanks for the heads' up on that, though I'm not sure I get their logic there. It's really not all that different than what would be put on a GM screen. And honestly, there's too much in so many hundreds of pages to really need to be flipping back and forth constantly for this chart vs. that chart as a GM.

It doesn't matter if it's the most amazing and readable, user-friendly book in the world... there's hundreds of pages, a cheat sheet is going to be necessary.

I playtested this at Paizocon and we had a great reference/cheat sheet that had the actions, conditions, and encounter mode flow on it... it was amazingly helpful.

Is there any chance that we could get a copy of that sheet added to the playtest bundle?

I think my biggest struggle with making my first char - about 1.5 hours for an elf fighter... was not the rules but the character sheet itself. That thing is awful really and guaranteed I'll likely be making one of my own.

For the rest of it - the rules crunch and looking things up, all went pretty fast. Had I been more comfortable with the sheet (literally it was the thing making me second guess everything), it likely wouldn't have taken more than 35 min or so.

I've to say, I'm rather sadly amused at some of the people freaking out because of what they perceive to be a lack of choices in being able to customize... as if this playtest holds all of the options that will be ever be available when in reality it's merely a sampling given to people to oh... play it, and test it.

It's completely illogical to think that you're going to be able to get all of the depth in a sample immediately that took ten years to build in the first edition.

I've read it, I've played it at Paizocon and was intrigued by it, and I'm looking forward to running it through the wringer in every way possible. It's going to come one way or another - best to make sure it's the best possible by providing the most feedback possible.

Still, it is a "Knee-Jerk Reaction" thread so hopefully time and trials will prevail.

I had the same problem. I had to transfer it to my roommate and have her transfer it to my fiance and then transfer a second set of tickets to her. Oddly enough, once I finished the first transfer, it then finally let me select it.

I have no idea if this sort of crazy round about thing would work for you, but rest assured you're not the only one this is happening to so I'm sure after Christmas the tech goblins will get it sorted.

So... ordered tickets but cannot transfer them to the appropriate people. It autofills in one of the people I want to send to but will not let me deselect that person to choose another.

Edit: Found a work around but it was rather clunky. Had to send one set to the person it had already selected for me, have them send it to the third person and then send them a second set. Interestingly enough, after I sent the pre-selected person the second badge ticket and was giving them the banquet - it finally let me have the option to find anyone.

This pretty much sums up my thinking as well.

I think diversity in all ways should be encouraged and if you want to acknowledge it, rather than making a separate award for women/minorities... why not make one that rewards those that specifically go above and beyond to encourage diversity, fairness, inclusiveness, welcomeness, safety, etc.

Mind you, I had always assumed that's what the volunteer award was all about, among probably them managing five million other things that perpetually blows my mind and leaves me in awe, and if so, then there'd be no harm in making that a bit more obvious that it includes such.

But Liz definitely has the rights of it... speak up and nominate ANYONE and EVERYONE you feel deserves recognition when they go above and beyond. Paizo people are amazing but they're not psychic - they can't acknowledge people if the stories of good deeds don't reach them.

I have solved the parking mystery.

So, parking at the hotel for Paizocon attendees will be $8 a day per car. The key to getting that is to make sure to get your parking stub validated for the Con. There's apparently a special button somewhere to do this, but I'm not too sure on where that is or how it works but they said you can ask any employee and they'll help you get it scanned in properly for the special rate.

It was a hotel about a five minute walk but when I went to go do the reservation it had a three day minimum. There's another close by (Jiffy) that's at 15 a day if you prepay and closer... I emailed them to see if they had in/out privileges and waiting on a response (though I suspect it'll be a no), before I book individual days. Steep, but still half the price of the hotel.

bargleslayer wrote:

I didn't park on site last year, but I did year before last, and that was when I paid the $8/day. I was not aware they had made any changes to that policy. I apologize if my information was out of date. Please ask the hotel if there is a con rate for parking, if not, I've had success within the last year finding cheap parking near the airport at this site

https://www.airportparkingreservations.com/seattle_airport_parking_sea

It was the same for me... year before last we paid $8 a day, so we parked there again last year and imagine our surprise when it ended up being $28. I'm looking at a place nearby that's $6 a day so hopefully that works out, though I imagine we'll bite the bullet and maybe park on site for Sunday night since we're bound to be exhausted. All depends really.

bargleslayer wrote:

Park at the hotel. It will say the parking is something ridiculous like $21 bucks a day, but when you get inside, there is a ticket pay machine right by the Paizo table and they charge you $8 a day. You might be able to get a cheaper daily rate at one of the local motels, but it will be a bit of a walk, I'd just go with the daily Doubletree rate, as you won't be able to get much better.

Alternatively, if you are going alone, you could park at the Tukwila International blvd park and ride and take the light rail for $2.25 each way ($4.50/day) to SeaTac station and walk across the street to the con. That's a cheap way to go if it's just you, but if you have others in the car, parking at the doubletree is your best bet.

I'd be careful on that - last year we used the ticket machine inside and it charged us $28 a day; sign on it said it charged that amount as well. If there's something special one has to do in order to get the $8/day I'd love to know.

Does this bundle include the Mythic Intrigue or Mythic Horror Spells? If not, do you plan on releasing a bundle that might? I'm thinking of running a Mythic Strange Aeons game soon and am very interested in picking these up.

The details under my orders still shows them there, I just can't see them. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I'm rather surprised there's no answer to this - I'm rather curious about it myself given I'm thinking of using this for an NPC.

Not hardly. Being harsh is not the same as demonizing, being strict is not the same as demonizing. Parents can be harsh with their children when they do something wrong, or don't do something at all that they were supposed to and it's not demonizing, teachers can be harsh with their students for similar reasons.

When expectations are given and not delivered upon for the length of time on this, and all of the patience in the world have been paid for over a year and a half, then obviously super polite kindness sure isn't working.

Demonizing someone is far worse than this. Expressing severe disappointment with someone on something promised deserves harsh.

Seriously, if this kind of language is "harsh" I fear for people venturing into the other parts of the internet - or even these forums for that matter.

Keep your opinion as you like, I'll keep mine, feel free to call me all the names you like, I can guarantee I've heard worse and more creative. I simply find it completely inexcusable that it's taken so long and that they've been skipped over so long when OA was churned out seemingly post-haste.
