Koross frowns as he realizes Artemis was correct, the cold was emanating from the mold. Holding his hand out, he flexed his fingers as they became cold, as if he were training in the monestary courtyard on a winters day. "I know naught of this , but you're caution is wise, Artemis. This could be deadly to the unwary." Skirting the edge of the cold, Koross sees how far he can advance before having to turn back.

DM, could you elaborate on the statement 'The hallway opens up into a dull gray stone that reaches from floor to ceiling'. Is there a hall with a large gray stone? Koross pads down the hall, eyeing the supplicant figures as he passes. Coming to the the third and last alcoves , he pauses "It grows colder here..." he says, holding his hand up as if trying to determine where the coldness was coming from.

"It is unfortuate that my polearm will not fit in the cylinder, it would be useful to lever the stone out of the way." Koross says , considering the stone. "It may be futile, but good old manpower is the only option..." he says, placing his hands against the stone, and taking up a powerful stance. He waits for the others to assist...

Koross nods to Atrtemis, "A layer of dust implies I was the most recent visitor for quite a time..."[/b] He takes his trip down , then waits for the others, pointing out the other figures as they arrive. When all have descended, he shows them where the fallen rock obscures the passageway...

Koross steps out of the cylinder, looking relieved. "There is a chamber below, with other marble figures similar to the sarcophagus. An interesting passway leads in that direction, but is mostly blocked by a large stone that seemed to have dropped from the ceiling...a discharged trap perhaps. A trigger on the wall allowed me to activate the cylinder from below."

very nice Artemis, very nice indeed ;) DM:
Having reached the half way mark in his internal counting, Koross turns to return to the cylinder. Approaching, he noticed the ' button' beside the cylinder. After looking at it for a moment or two, he decided to risk it. Taking his place back inside the cylinder, he reaches out and tries to depress the stone ' button'.... -Posted with Wayfinder

DM: As the cylinder opens, Koross holds the torch out , illuminating the room beyond. Startled a bit by the figures, he pauses until sure they pose not threat. Beginning to count in his head, he steps out of the cylinder, and approaches the dark passage way, eyes on the niche in the ceiling.

His face set, certain, Koross says "I will go" Handing his polearm to Edwin, he grabs his pack and walks to stand inside the cylinder. Pushing the water skin out of the cylinder, he says "I will send back my dagger if I find a way to activate the machine. Otherwise, I will return to the cylinder after 10 minutes. Reactivate the mechanism at that time He the crossed his hands in front and waits for the cylinder to close. -Posted with Wayfinder

Koross cocks his head as the sound emanates from below his feet. He looks up to see Artemis scurry around, then notices the rising column. Walking over to the opened cylinder, he gives it a Tao with the blade if his polearm, calling to the others "Look here. The machine has produced.... something" -Posted with Wayfinder

Koross kneels at the edge of the light of the fire, remembering seeing a older initiate close a wound on his arm through the discipline of his mind. Clearning his thoughts, Koross allowed his breathing to calm and his thoughts to drift inward, his muscles relaxing.... After several minutes he realized that he did not have the mastery of his own mind and body necessary to duplicate what he had seen. Resigning himself to the natural healing of his body, he stood and returned to the light of the fire, helping to prepare the basic meal they all shared.

Koross watches Gnobby examine the sarcophagus, trying to glean some idea of his process . When the gnome finally straightens and explains that Koross' intuition had been correct but that a magical trap threatened further exploration, he nods at Artemis' observation, "Indeed, if it can be circumvated, the mechanism becomes available to us."

Koross looks about the domed room, noting whether the actual lanterns match the mosaics in the room above. "Five lanterns, two missing. We have one from above, it stands to reason that another may be found." he turns to Gnobby, "I have only torches, no oil." Approaching the sarcophagus, he stops a distance away and tries to determine if the bas-relief was missing a finger.

Koross nods to Thrantor, after he had finished wrapping the monk's arm. Flexing his hand, Koross could feel the cooling herbs dulling the pain from his torn flesh. "Thank you, I'll try to be more careful in the future." he says with thanks. Crouching beside Artemis, Koross looks from the indigo lantern in the pack, to the other lanterns , "There are two indigo lanterns..." he says looking up, smiling , delighted by the apparent riddle. -Posted with Wayfinder

Koross peers into the dark of the cave, looking a the height of the ceiling and the width of the passage, as he takes his place in the middle of the group. Checking if he has room to use the polearm, otherwise he'll lean it in a corner or niche and pick up when they leave.

Koross steps into the shadow of the entrace, lightly running a finger along the wall, watching flakes of stucco and paint flutter to the ground. "Impermenance..." he says softly, before taking a breath and standing still, listening to the noises coming from the tomb, head cocked to one side.

Koross enters the hut at the double greeting, leaning his polearm up against the weathered wood of the hut's wall. Removing his pack , he stands relaxed and answers Erwin, "I did not." then turns his head to address Artemis, "As to whom else is coming? That I do not know. I am call Koross, lately of the Twighlight Monestery. I have been given leave of my duties there, for a time and when I heard talk of this venture...I allowed my curiosity to lead me here. "

Koross walks towards the old overseer's hut, enjoying the fine early morning air. As he walks, he thinks about his recent visit with the stone merchant in Diamond Lake. Sent by his elders, he had been told merely to knock and present himself. Nothing more, nothing said. Doing so, he was impressed by the reaction of the merchant to Koross' appearance on his doorstep: an instant pallor and a stammering apology and reassurance that the debt would be paid. After giving the fearful merchant a respectful bow, Koross , his task finished set out for the hut, having overheard the evening before that something interesting was afoot regarding the nearby cairns. As a boy, Koross had often heard the older boys talk about delving into the cairns...grand adventures to be had! Now, released by the Monestery, at least for a time, to find his own way in the world, his childhood interest in the cairns was re-awakened. Seeing the hut come in sight, Koross slows taking in the area around the dilapidated structure. Seeing a couple of others have preceeded him, he raises his hand in greeting as he enters the light from the lantern. "Hail and well met." he says simply.

Sorry been a bit busy work and life-wise. On the question of possible connections, only Artemis and Ty have backgrounds. It's possible Artemis and Koross ran together on the streets before Koross was taken away to the Monestary. Also, Ty could have been one of the older kids bullying Koross... Recognizing each other after 15 or so years.....could happen :) Profile finished with Background, Appearance and Personality. |
