DM HolyWater, and Those in the Game,

Due to some events in real life, I’m in a position where I need to cut back on my gaming dramatically. My grandfather is dying of cancer, and my goal of graduate school is looking further and further away with each day. I’m staying in several games on the forums, but I’ve decided I need to cut back, and this is one of the games I’m withdrawing from.

Koayi as a character isn’t as interesting to play as I thought she’d be. She’s hyper-specialized, which makes her options limited in combat, and her personality isn’t one I can accurately play, given what’s going on in my life.

I’ve enjoyed playing with all of you, as you seem like strong role-players and good character builders, but my position is what it is. Hopefully, I’ll see you in games in the future, and thanks for the opportunity to play with you while I could. Please move me to inactive.

I'm sorry,

Koayi

Retired

I have no problem with resting right now. I think Thomas is exhausted and half the party is also fatigued. Plus, I could use a refresh on my spells.

Retired

Koayi collapses onto the ground, yawns, and curls up into a ball shape. "I agree. We must rest to keep up our strength. Once we have recovered, we can find a good course to take."

Retired

Koayi looks at the couple in consternation. "You want to what? Do you have any idea where we are? Because I do not. Being left behind is a death sentence, now please, hurry and catch up with the others. I do not want your deaths to join ours."

She looks toward the hulking form of Thomas and begins walking toward him.

Retired

"He does not need me to talk sense into him. If he goes, so will I, and I have grown quite fond of the boy. If you must punish him, perhaps a finger would be sufficient? Either way, Koan is right. We are taking him." Koayi bares her teeth, an almost feral grin flickering across her face. "Next time a bandit hunts down your men one by one in the night, do not expect your caravan-members to help track the killers!"

Retired

Koayi will want to leave, and hopefully she'll be able to convince Koan that it's not safe for them at the caravan anymore. If their secret gets out, it'll probably be them on Gorrsh's list next.

Retired

I'm sorry, I assumed I followed Koan over, but maybe I'm just confused about where everyone is. It seems somehow like this is supposed to be a combat encounter, maybe a map would be helpful?

Retired

Shocked at the sudden turn of events, Koayi can only look on helplessly. This is how quickly things turn, out here in the wastelands? Koan and I have no chance, if we are discovered. A quick shiver runs through her spine, and she turns away. Stepping into the crowd, she points a finger at Aggrammar and mutters under her breath.

Message (Aggrammar, or DC 25 for the grappling guards to hear it):

"Do not fear, sir. My brother and I will find a way to help you, I promise. Something is not right here at the caravan, and we will get to the root of the problem."

Having sent the message, Koayi begins to detect magic, aiming it in the direction of Gorrsh. If I can't do that because we're in initiative rounds, I'll think of something else. Otherwise, I'm assuming I concentrate on it for 3 rounds.

Retired

{Sylvan}"I think this is going to go south, and fast. I have two useful spells, but once they've been used, I will be down to basically nothing. Do you have any ideas?"{/Sylvan}

Looking first at the boy, then at the dwarf, Koayi tries to come up with a way to save both of them. She glances at Thomas, Lars, and her brother, hoping one of them will make the first move instead of her.

Retired

That's a pretty convincing Gheris, Koan. I'm going to wait until I hear where the "real" Gheris is to commit to one plan or another (although, with that roll, you may be more convincing than the real deal).

Retired

As the situation quickly starts getting out of control, Koayi's face turns white. I could understand Geoff's punishment, I suppose, but the dwarf does not deserve to hang. She takes a few steps away from the crowd, searching for her brother. When she finds him, she whispers in his ear. {Sylvan}"I think some of our friends will soon be needing your skills. I have only a fraction of mine remaining, and Lars is about to start trouble with the caravan guards. I can only hope Thomas comes in on his side, or the crusader will not be long for the world."{/Sylvan} She shoots a quick glance at the huge man and grabs her brother's hand. "Come on, you need to come on!"

Retired

"I...oh my. I had not thought that you would actually be put to death." Koayi looks toward Geoff, a look of sadness and resignation on her face.

She gives his manacled hand a quick squeeze and turns toward Gorrsh. "Sir, I accept that you have authority over the caravan, and it is likely that his friends killed your man, but could you find it in you to spare him? Perhaps a lesser punishment?" She gives him a quick bow, the effect of which is somewhat ruined by her voluminous yawn immediately after.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Retired

Koayi walks slowly to the group, an almost feral scowl on her face. "All of the people at the caravan are being quite loud. It would seem I will need to wait on my nap. Ooh, are you talking about Geoff?" Koayi moves behind the prisoner and wraps an arm around him. "Geoff didn't...actually, why you should speak for yourself? Tell Gorrsh you did not kill his man. But...you should probably look him in the eye and be truthful."

Retired

Checking in to let you know I'm here, but I don't see a lot to do right now, unless you'd prefer Koayi not try to nap in the back of a wagon.

Retired

Arriving at the caravan, Koayi flashes Geoff a wink and a grin. "Do not fear, friend. I am sure that Gorrsh and Thomas will leave you alive and unharmed." She turns her smile into a frown, looking suddenly worried. "Well, hopefully. If not, oh well! It was nice to meet you!" She practically skips away, heading for the caravan and hoping for a wagon that has enough room in it for a nap.

Retired

"Any brigands that may have survived are certainly too scattered to attack the caravan. Although there was that dead guard...What do you all think? Could the bandits we found have done something like that, that skillfully?" Koayi ponders the new arrival, curiously examining his arsenal of weapons and his matted hair.

Retired

Fort: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 1 = 19

Koayi manages to stay awake and alert, even encouraging the others. As she walks near Thomas, she evaluates what she has left for the day, coming up with a very limited list of resources. [i]Two useful spells, six more of my special touches, and an assortment of lesser spells.

"This, this is not so bad. I remember one time, Koan and I had to leave Westcrown in the dead of night. I was much more tired than this. I do hope we reach the caravan soon, however." She moves toward the front of the group, lighter on her feet than most of the others. As she does, she looks for whatever sights she might see, cocking her head to try to hear strange and unfamiliar sounds. "This place sounds nothing like home did..."

Retired

Yep

Retired

Koayi stands shakily. "No, I will be fine. It was just a surprise, the pain. If there are others worse off, please take care of them first." She walks back to the group, looking around and suppressing a big yawn. "I do need to rest, however. This night has exhausted my reserves, and I was tired from the heat of the day to begin with. Can we return to camp, please?"

Retired

Koayi takes a few seconds to catch her breath, poking gingerly at her bite with a finger. As she does, her finger slips into the wound and she lets out a gasp and breaks into a sweat. She looks around, crouching on her knees and one hand, and sees Thomas's shadowy figure nearby.

"Could you...could you deal with that wolf. It will not sleep forever, especially if that boy keeps squirming and shrieking under it."

Retired

With Geoff down, Koayi feels free to concentrate on her casting. She winks into existance, somewhat the worse for her encounter with the wolf, and begins casting sleep again, centering the effect on the wolf.

But will it work?! DC 19 Will Save for Wolf 6, next turn.

Retired

I am also still here.

Retired

Taking a deep breath and struggling to regain her composure, Koayi tries to make sense of the battlefield. Still invisible, she finds her way back to her feet and takes a few steps in the direction of the fleeing man, unwilling to let either him escape or the wolf kill him.

Move to stand, Move to move 30 ft. east. Still invisible for 1 more round.

Retired

Koayi screams again, this time in pain as the wolf's teeth punch through her silken robe. Her scream is cut off when she hits the ground hard, driving the wind out of her lungs. Sucking in a quick lungful of air, she expels it, gasping out an incantation. "Csai'ahus uhr ri'asazr! Csai'ahus uhr ri'asazr!"

Casting Defensively (DC 17): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Her spell goes off without a hitch and she winks out of sight, still on the ground next to the wolf.

Retired

I agree. I feel like the evangelist cleric fills a lot of gaps. It offers a source of reasonable healing and a lot of utility through buffing, and the reach means he won't clutter our already-crowded melee. I like him, but am open to any of the characters.

Retired

Koayi screams a high-pitched, barking scream of terror as the wolf crashes into her. Stumbling, she struggles to regain her balance before reaching out to touch the wolf that charged her.

Laughing Touch: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

Still panicked from the wolf's speed, she's unable to find its fur, and instead takes a step away from it.

Retired

Koayi shoves another bolt into her crossbow, straining her tired arms to pull back the string. She feels it catch on the release, shoulders the weapon, and lets another bolt fly, this one at Wolf 7.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Damage?: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Retired

Never heard of it. Cool, though. Can play Oradin without the din, I guess.

Retired

Koayi thinks through her repertoire, shakes her head sadly, and pulls out her crossbow instead. Taking aim at wolf #3, she lets a bolt fly.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 - 2 = 15 (+2 dex, -2 range)
Damage?: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Retired

At the moment, that oracle looks pretty good to me. I'm not sure why the character sheet has Lay on Hands, though.

Retired

"I want to know more! Tell me about yourself. You are the son of a farmer? Where is this farm, and why did you choose the path you walk now?" Koayi keeps talking to the prisoner as they walk, taking the manacles from him and clipping them gently around his wrists to secure his hands behind his back. She offers him a quick peck on the cheek "I apologize for the restraints, but it is either that or Good Thomas takes your head off. I would prefer you alive; you seem to be more fun that way!"

Retired

Koayi blushes, embarrassed by her failure to subdue the bandits. "I apologize for that. That failure should not have happened. On the bright side, however, you all corrected my mistake quite well. And Thomas! You got me a toy!"

She walks beside the captured bandit, swaying her hips as seductively as she can, given how tired she is. "You know, cutie, Thomas and his employer will most certainly have you killed if they decide you killed our caravan member. You look so adorable, all nervous and scared, so I think I would like to help you. But, you would need to tell me about your friends. Where do you think they ran off to? What were their names? Anything you know, I need to know too! It would be a shame to let them cut off your pretty head, after all!"

Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Retired

Koayi moves off to one side and draws her light crossbow.

Retired

:(

That's too bad. Since we've lost two of the original number (Gheris and Freddy), would it be wise to pull someone else from the recruitment thread?

Retired

Order is (according to the players tab): Gheris, Thomas, Koayi, Lars, Sorek, Koan.

WHO DIES TODAY!?: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Retired

I've recently become aware that today is "GM's Day". Thanks for running this!

Retired

Koayi steps behind her brother and, letting her spell fall off, casts sleep at the bandits surrounding Sorek.

5-foot step, full round to cast sleep.

Retired

Er, whoops! I'll take back the casting, then. Editing post.

Retired

Now, in my defense, the bandit had a 10% chance of passing my save DC, and like a 1 in a million to pass it twice. It was practically guaranteed!

Retired

Still invisible, Koayi moves closer to the bandits, slipping behind Sorek.
Double Move.

Retired

Wow. Making me look bad!

Koayi stares at the watchman, shocked that he's still conscious. "Tuhnu sa suhri'azzui'as!" With a wave of her hand, she disappear from view, moving closer to the brigands.

Standard to cast Vanish, Move to move closer to the battle.

Retired

Stealth: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 - 1 = 7

Whoops!

An ill-timed yawn leaves Koayi's mouth, and she quickly claps her hands to her mouth before muttering the words again.

Casting Sleep again if it's not too late. If it is, so be it.

Retired

Stealth: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 1 = 12

Koayi nods and moves off down the slope, trying to stay hidden behind whatever brush she can find. As she closes to within range of the lone watcher, she begins imagining blossoms floating serenely down a stream, and softly whispers a few words. Lus rsuuz urass ilai, suhurs."

Sleep DC 19 Will, 3 minute duration. Medium (130 ft) range.

Stealth: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 - 1 = 10
She moves within range of the two by the fire, casting the same spell and hoping for the best, before waving for the others to come down.

2/6 1st-level spells used. The others seemed to be asleep already, so there's no need to re-cast the spell more times.

Retired

Koayi frowns. "I could cause you to vanish, but it would only last a handful of seconds before you became seen again. I could, however, make you smaller. That would, perhaps, enable you to sneak more effectively, and you would look funny that small, which is always an added benefit."

Retired

Koayi looks into Gheris's clouded eyes for a moment. "Gheris, I do not think we should be so quick to kill either, but there are many of them down there. It may be our only solution to this problem. As for how many I can have an effect on..."

She pauses, scrunching her eyebrows together in thought. "...I could, possibly, take the entire group by throwing the petals of sleep several times. It is uncertain. My gifts were given to me by more capricious beings than Gheris's god, but if you would like me to try, I am ready for the challenge. Just be ready to protect me should things go wrong."

Retired

"I have some talents that could be of use. Perhaps I can make the watcher fall asleep, if that would be of use. It could allow us to be subtle for longer." Koayi, still holding Gheris's arm, nods in the direction of the camp. "I can also disrupt a couple of them during the fighting and perhaps make some less...capable in battle." She giggles for a moment before suppressing it. "I apologize. My part is always the most enjoyable!"

Retired

After a few moments of searching, Koayi notices Gheris in the back. She walks to where he's standing, reaching out to touch his arm. "I am unsure, sir. Do you need help in the darkness, with your eyes? I would be an honor to assist you. I can see quite well in the dark and, not knowing the first thing about tracking, have not been much use. Your god sounds like a wonderful friend to have. I prefer one who is bit more fun, though!"

Retired

Shhhhhh. I helped! Even if it wasn't necessary.

EDIT: The best Aid Another house rule I've seen was "everyone's highest rolls get aided by everyone else's rolls".

Retired

I tried! Maybe it worked.

Retired

Though she has no experience tracking, it quickly becomes apparent that most of the group can't see as she can. When Good Thomas gets stuck, she looks well away from the group.

Survival (Untrained, Aid): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Survival (Untrained, Aid): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Survival (Untrained, Aid): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Survival (Untrained, Aid): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
