re: seeker content, I could run Unleashing the Untouchable (tier 12-15) which I have already played. I won't have GM capacity for probably 2-3 weeks though.

I want to make Kiboko's protégé something with a connection to the mwangi half-orc and a class I haven't yet played. I'm looking at three options:

So much remains unknown. Perhaps unknowable. A Venture-Captain? Kiboko will go to the Mwangi.

"Kiboko and Mvumbu will be glad of your company, Flyn! Tomorrow, Kiboko has a favour to ask of you. Would you sail the Voracious to Anodoran? Kiboko has urgent business in Almas."

(Much) later...

Kiboko goes ashore in Almas at night, and alone. Mvumbu sleeps aboard Flyn's ship. He makes his way through the back-streets to the Field of Concord, within sight of the Golden Aerie. "Aistor Garislog, Kiboko has brought you home" says the half-orc with unusual softness. "You are free. Leave Kiboko now." As the words leave Kiboko's lips, the presence that the new Venture-Captain has carried with him since touching the statue in Skyreach also departs.

Kiboko does not know how or why the Ten trapped you, Eagle Knight, but it is undone. Be at peace.

His mission complete, Kiboko returns to the Voracious and thence to the Mwangi Expanse, to help renew the Lodge based at Sharrowsmith Exports.

In order to keep a level-coherent group of proteges together I'll make mine level one and use my -18.

Re: new character - I have a GM blob (my -16) that is unmade. I am contemplating assigning a race boon, this boon, and "Maestro of Manumission" to this character, all of which would be "this must be your first chronicle" boons. I gather that it is legal to assign multiple boons of this sort to the same character, but I don't know exactly what the VC protégé boon says so I'll be guided by you GM. I also have a lvl 2-4 3XP GM chronicle to assign to -16, but that can't be applied until after Maestro of Manumission which grants 3XP.

If I can't stack the boons, my next 0xp character is 75577-18.

Thanks for running us through this epic arc, GM Hawthwile, and sticking with it when it was tough. Much appreciated. I really enjoy your storytelling.

"What trickery is this? Shapeshifters?! Who is truly behind this attack on the Society?"

Determined to stop the Hestrams' assault before it can go any further, Kiboko and Mvumbu furiously assail the nearest foe.

free action rage; draw greatsword; ready vital strike for when Mvumbu completes her attacks.

"Why would such a creature be bound here?" Kiboko shakes his head.

"The Decemvirate went to such lengths. Little wonder that Hestram and his allies desire to supplant them, when they have such creatures at their beck and call.

"If we must enter the darkness, we should either seek to dispel it or rely on senses other than sight."

Kiboko lacks any way of countering darkness, since he and Mvumbu rely upon darkvision and scent.

"Kiboko and Mvumbu will challenge the guardian!" the towering half-orc declares. "A straight-up fight will be welcome after so much trickery!"

Kiboko marches forwards, allowing his connection to Mvumbu and the wild places of the world to take over temporarily. He snarls, and draws his lance as the distance to the sphinx is just too great for swordplay.

Swift action to set Animal Focus to Bull + Tiger for Kiboko and Mvumbu. Free rage. Single move + free weapon draw. Ready a vital strike.

"Kiboko thinks we should keep moving. Keep opening doors, friend Flyn. If we go round in a circle then try your numbers."

It's just guesswork, and your guess is as good as mine, but if we disarm all the traps I think we'll make progress.

"Perhaps you are right, friend Flyn. But it would not hurt to examine the room that has been revealed."

Perhaps some experimentation is called for.

"Perhaps it is just a door, Flyn. If you have disarmed the trap, would not one pull of the lever serve to open it? No doubt we will soon see."

Kiboko's brow furrows. "Little about this place makes sense to Kiboko."

Kiboko and Mvumub attend Flyn, with the she-hippo walking along the wall at Kiboko's suggestion and the half-orc floating on the air.

"The decemvirate have crafted a lair filled with inexplicable riddles. To what end? What purpose does Skyreach serve?"

Kiboko activates his wand of Heightened Awareness then peers into the triangular room with Detect Magic.

Will burn H.A. for +4 initiative if combat breaks out in next ten minutes.

"How long does the icy prison last?" Kiboko asks. "Must we break it, or can we leave this woman alone?"

Icy Tomb hex doesn't give a duration, just says it lasts while the ice lasts. How cold is it in the tower?

"Kiboko must go and get Mvumbu."

Kiboko walks through the air to rejoin his companion. "Mvumbu, we must go further into this bad place. Kiboko's magic will protect you."

clw charges, M: 4d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 7) + 4 = 16
clw charges, K: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Leaves Kiboko down 2hp.

Kiboko casts some spells, then with a smaller she-hippo walking on the walls he rejoins the others.

"The rainbow room" he nods.

Casting Reduce Animal (from scroll), duration 3 hours; and Spider Climb (duration 110mins), both on Mvumbu. The Spider Climb is extended (rod) and Shared with Kiboko, so they both get 110mins. Slides updated.

Kiboko just gets there on a 40' move

Though he knows he could thwart the swarming insects with a spell, Kiboko is furious that he didn't do so already and eager to spill the enemy's blood. With his allies engaged, Kiboko strides amidst the wasps and passes the druid, ducking underneath Beak's wings and then turning his lance on the foe.

hooked lance vs yellow, rage, bull focus, power: 1d20 + 15 + 2 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (7) + 15 + 2 + 2 - 3 = 23damage, furious finish: 16 + 12 + 9 = 37
Furious finish only triggers on a hit - otherwise Kiboko remains raging.

Actions: 1 move, a swift to change Mouse focus to Bull, and a vital strike attack; I did not account for soft cover so I suspect that may be a miss.

Preparing an alternative plan of offence, Kiboko casts Spider Climb on Flyn and then advances around the conjured stone wall, walking on the air.

If Flyn is able to move up to Kiboko's position then that will grant Kiboko another 15' of movement; I have positioned Kiboko assuming that he needs to move to Flyn, and using a total of 35' out of 40' speed. I've also assumed that Kiboko has to squeeze past the Wall of Stone where it bends.

"Yes, friend Flyn. Kiboko has been thinking on this."

We really need Greater Dispel Magic about now :o

"Regroup! Zaarah, can you hold them?"

Kiboko tries to think of another way to reach the pair of enemies. He pulls a scroll out and reads it, then rises above the treacherous ground.

Draw and cast a scroll of Air Walk, then 5' step.

So that's Anti-life Shell, Repel Wood and Wind Wall? :o

With limited options against the abjurations of the enemy, Kiboko sends more conjured stone discs...

I think, as magical projectiles, they either go straight through the wind wall or suffer a 30% miss chance. But I might be wrong about what the spell is so I'll leave it to you GM :)

Kiboko follows Kramac back into the room. Again, he conjures discs of enchanted stone and flings them at the enemies...

Kiboko doesn't know exactly what wards the enemy are using, but he's wise enough to know that stepping into the swarm doesn't look like a good idea. Concerned for Mvumbu's welfare, he first fires off magic of his own before ensuring her safety.

Animal Focus - Tiger and Mouse. Handle Mvumbu with "Down" command to get her out of the swarm, though she'd probably do that anyway out of self-preservation.

"Gather close, friends. Kiboko will open the way."

Kiboko brandishes his wand of Stone Shape.

If we're in agreement, once everyone is in position Kiboko will Stone Shape the wall to make an opening. (Will take a bit of maths to work out if it's 5' or 10' though :o

"Kiboko agrees with Fendel."

Does someone have Gloves of Reconnaisance?

Kiboko steps forwards, worried for his friends' injuries.

"Are there any further threats here?" he asks Kramac and Zaarah as he refreshes his Heightened Awareness spell. Burning another wand charge, and will expend the spell for initiative bonus if combat occurs.

"Do you need help with your wounds?"

Kiboko waits to see whether the second golem is trapped by Zaarah's hex (or indeed destroyed by Kramac's attack)...

Delay; will engage if necessary.

Kiboko sees Zaarah holding the choke point. "It would appear those constructs are too large to exit their chamber. You may lose your arrows in the action, Flyn, but they are far the best way to overcome these guardians."

But not wanting to leave his friends to deal with the problem, Kiboko strides forwards to take a position behind Zaarah. Out of sword reach, he pulls his old cold iron lance and with a mighty roar thrusts it over Zaarah's head...

Swift action to set Animal Focus to Tiger and Mouse (DEX and evasion)

Furious finish only triggers on a hit, but if he misses Kiboko ends his rage at the end of his turn. Either way, he's fatigued until the start of his next turn.

Then Kiboko notices the 'mwangi' representation.

Who has made this? Kyalla? This is not the Mwangi! What madness has inspired this place? The corruption of civilisation infects the Decemvirate!

The cunning warrior studies the totem and assorted paraphenalia.

"If we have all made contact with the factions, then it is time to find the stairs down and seek the Decemvirate. If we encounter an assassin or a hostile sphinx here, we will deal with them."

Kiboko applies a wand.

"Perhaps we already killed Valicia - when we were attacked in the atrium?"

"Kiboko has received a message. We must descend, but before we do, Kiboko understands that there is a noteworthy object nearby: this silvery pillar. Kiboko must examine it."

And Kiboko does just that.

All pretence of subterfuge gone, Kiboko sets about dealing with Flyn's attacker.

Amplified Rage, set Animal Focus to Bull and Tiger for Kiboko and for Mvumbu, free action to handle Mvumbu (flank command), move to draw sword, standard to ready attack.

I am currently without Discord - the app auto-updated on my mac when I restarted it and now isn't compatible with my OS!

I will update the OS, probably tomorrow. Hopefully the old mac will cope.

I could try running Discord in the browser, but my browsers are also complaining about the OS.

Flyn winces upon hearing the VC’s name spoken in common

Taking a chance to move us along - the VC said we need to use special ioun stones that we'll find in the basin, and the numbers of persons (+ animals) in the room looks right, so it feels like it's not a huge risk.

If we happen to know the Eliza understands infernal, or polyglot, Kiboko would use one of those languages instead.

I don't think we checked whether Eliza speaks infernal?

Kiboko calls out again in common. "Venture-Captain Petulengro, can you identify yourself? This is Kiboko. Our numbers appear correct. You mentioned something about tokens? Flyn is at the basin. He has found something. Can you help?"

Kiboko counts the number of shapes in the room, and finds that it is as expected. Seekers, animal companions, plus Petulengro.

"Kiboko anasimama na wewe. Flyn amekaribia bonde. Kiboko atamsogelea sasa, na Mvumbu. Ndugu Kramac, unapaswa kujitangaza."

Kiboko repeats himself in Infernal. "Кибоко поддерживает вас. Флин подошел к бассейну. Кибоко подойдет к нему сейчас вместе с Мвумбу. Брат Крамац, тебе следует объявить о себе."

Kiboko uses his close connection to Mvumbu to discern which of the shapes is the she-hippo, and calls her to him. Improved Empathic Link should suffice to identfiy Mvumbu, looking through her eyes if necessary.

Kiboko takes a deep breath and places a hand on Mvumbu's shoulder. "It is time, O wise and beautiful Mvumbu."

The pair step into the portal.

Swift action before stepping in - Animal Focus (Tiger and Mouse for Kiboko, Tiger and Bear for Mvumbu).

Kiboko Fort save: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (16) + 22 = 38
Mvumbu Fort save: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

Mvumbu and Kiboko have a couple of situational modifiers to those saves. Kiboko's looks fine as is - Mvumbu has +2 vs nonmagical disease, Endurance feat for +4 to a bunch of stuff, +1 vs fear and +2 vs haunts; and her ioun stone converts Fatigued to Sickened, and Exhausted to Nauseated :)

Kiboko frowns. "Kiboko carries a cursed, yet powerful, ioun stone Brother Kramac. Zaarah has one also. They radiate an evil aura, even when hidden inside a wayfinder as Kiboko's is.

As for carrying Kiboko - you are much too small!"

Kiboko's toothsome grin returns and Mvumbu honks in agreement.

"And Mvumbu is no beast of burden!" The great she-hippo honks again.

I think Mvumbu allowed a gnome pathfinder to ride on her once - the gnome was very respectful :)

....and Kiboko does the same on the Magnificent Mvumbu

Kiboko's grey face goes pale as an ice-witch's. "Ride upon Mvumbu the Wise and Beautiful? As if she were a mere HORSE?! Kiboko would never treat Mvumbu in such a way!

No, if we need a way to identify ourselves it should be a pass-phrase, for example: 'I apologise to Mvumbu the Wise and Beautiful for suggesting that she be employed as a common beast.'"

assuming we have got our daily resources back, Kiboko casts the following spells: Greater Magic Fang, Barkskin and Longstrider, on himself and Mvumbu, splitting the duration between them via Improved Spell Sharing and using his Lesser Rod of Extend Spell on the Barkskin.

I never even got to specifying my 2 rounds' prep! Without Shield available, Kiboko would cast Featherstep (duration shared between himself and Mvumbu) and activate his Sihedron brand (26 temp hp for 3 mins).

Don't really need to understand the words to understand the intent though, especially given the Liberty's Edge / Andoran briefing.

Kiboko regards the melting effigy of Hestram with a degree of confusion. If he was raised from the dead, that was not him. And the woman we fought in the airship was no priestess.

"Flyn, don't let the Akitonians take you for a god. They must learn to stand on their own!"

Kiboko strides over to the princess and cuts her bonds. "You speak Golarion Taldane?"
