One more time Katara seeks Grok, the quartermaster. The Garundi now carries a mace with her, tied with the other carpentry tools, and her wooden armor can be inferred from under her thin clothes. More visible, however, is the scrimshaw depicting Besmara held in a leather necklace - especially since Besmara looks suspiciously like Katara herself in the art. Howdy, Grok! - she says, giving the half-orc a smile before proceeding - 'Ya get any mor' stories for me? Any news? Are we all rich already? She's using her wooden armor. Other than the coins, the rest of the acquired gear she will keep on her locker tonight, and will try to buy a better lock from Grok later. Katara just smiles and waits for him to leave. It's already a bit late, so she stops to think about her next day; her priority right now is to put a weapon into Seadreamer's and Ming's hands; one of the maces and the last dagger likely would do the trick. She has no idea if anyone is actually martially trained, and these are simpler weapons to use than the exquisite handaxe. Maybe one of them would know how to don this leather armor too?, she wonders, considering on how to approach it without catching too much attention. Katara will sneak around the ship, following Grok's suggestion to "inspect" the footlockers. She will particularly target the ones from the people which jumped them on the morning. Taking 20 for perception makes it a 26 Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Not sure what to roll for opening some lockers, or how many I can try. Disable Device: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Katara sits down with the others after the bloody hour. She's still quite bruised, but the young Garundi looks more absorbed on her thoughts than the usual - actually, she's thinking about what the quartermaster told her; and, at the same time, wondering if she'd become an unlikely ally. It seems the kineticist had already gotten some clues on the things that may appeal to the half-Orc, and she plans on how to make the friendship even more fruitful. ![]()

![]() Thanks - I was mostly setting up some boundaries here. We're in a game environment, and we should remember there are players trying to play their characters on the other side, instead of trying to hog the action. If in real life one "gentleman" (in fedora probably!) could put himself in front of a smaller woman to "defend her honor" (ugh!) against another large individual, all I see is Clark Gable saying "he doesn't give a damn" if you catch my point. It just feels dated, chauvinistic, and I was bluntly honest with it; I have difficulties imagining the same "step aside darlin" thing would happen if the character was a skinny 17-year-old boy. I addressed it in-character, but I wanted to also call attention here in discussion to make it abundantly clear before it escalates more. If after reading my comment, your first thought is to play victim and call for "respect", then you absolutely missed the point. Yet, I agree with the GM, and will use Fern more as a mediator in the future (hoping that this episode made abundantly clear that I'm not okay with certain actions).
