I was wondering if protection from evil defended against song of discord. Song of Discord wrote: This spell causes those within the area to turn on each other rather than attack their foes. Each affected creature has a 50% chance to attack the nearest target each round. (Roll to determine each creature's behavior every round at the beginning of its turn.) A creature that does not attack its nearest neighbor is free to act normally for that round. Creatures forced by a song of discord to attack their fellows employ all methods at their disposal, choosing their deadliest spells and most advantageous combat tactics. They do not, however, harm targets that have fallen unconscious. Relevant FAQ wrote: Protection from evil only works on charm and compulsion effects where the caster is able to exercise control over the target, such as command, charm person, or dominate person; it doesn't work on sleep or confusion. I was thinking it does NOT defend, because song of discord is basically killer confusion, and you can attack the caster if they're nearest. But I was not sure because of song of discord's language about turning on fellows and tactics selection.
So I was running a game for a witch who likes to phantasmal killer everything in sight, and he had the misfortune to cast it on a wizard with spell turning up. At this point, he realized that his greatest fear was his own phantasmal killer, because he couldn't make his own saves. Fortunately, he rolled high on his percentiles, so he lived to baleful polymorph a hound of tindalos the next week. Someone pointed out that since you automatically disbelieve your own illusions, he shouldn't be affected by the spell, but we wondered whether spell turning changed that. Thoughts?

Sorry for still being unclear, but are rogue talents in other hardcovers like guileful polyglot legal or not legal for unchained rogue? My linguist rogue really likes her 4 bonus languages, and this may impact whether I rebuild.
So, first off, I love the flavor of this class. As soon as I read it, I knew this was the class I most wanted to play. I love the Harrow deck, and it's great to see it being implemented here. One thing I was wondering about was whether spirit alignments had an influence on the medium's alignment. Can a good medium channel evil spirits? What happens if an evil spirit takes over a good medium? The way dual, triune, and fourfold vessel and trance work suggests some advantage to somewhat "specializing" in an alignment and/or ability, though there can be chaining at higher levels. My instinct/play tendency is to want to be a good medium who channels good spirits. I'm unsure how well this will work, as the lesser spirit powers seem more like good things to add on rather than primary abilities. And I feel like sticking to an alignment makes the charisma spirits less useful, because if you take them as the secondary spirit, you don't get a bonus. I'm going to try to play her for a few sessions at least, anyway, and seek how it goes. Also, am I reading this right that you only get the spirit boon at second level with the shared seance?

I do think we need some kind of procedure for order on the posts. We seem to have issues where some people like to post frequently and some people not at all. And for efficiency, we post multiple actions, and when others want to respond to an initial action, we get confused about what did and did not happen. Any suggestions?

Point of note, before Aya came up, Kadin and Dakaar talked to the daughter, who was cowering in the closet, and moved her into the mother's room. Kadin raises her eyebrows at Aya's statement. "You'll have to forgive me if, unlike you, I am unwilling to sit quietly and leave matters to individuals who have demonstrated that they hold human lifeand the laws of the land in dubious regard, especially where my career and reputation are concerned. If that makes me 'difficult' and 'uncooperative,' I can live with that better than I can live with deaths that I could have prevented."

Kadin gives Aya a look that indicates that she is as likely to leave those mooks alone with the "bad guys" as she is to strip down to her underwear and start doing a pole dance, though she feels that having the argument with Aya is likely not going to do any good. She suggests that Dakaar and Aya go get the butler and bring him up to the room where the people are tied up and she'll go discuss this with Alcibades to ensure that everyone is, in fact, on the same page. She takes the elevator down to the basement.

Gorram it, I had a whole diplome check all ready to convinced Dakaar that we should interrogate together. It was brillant... After ascertaining that Cecily is uninjured and not likely to attack us, I am going to ask that she go wait in her mother's room with Ichabod and the sleeping villains. After she does so, I explain to Dakaar that I think we should probably talk to the halfling servant first, since a.) he was behaving more suspiciously than the daughter, b.) I'd really like to determine tabs on everyone in the house, and c.) I'm hoping that the mother will minimize the evil she does upon awaking if her daughter is in the room. Plus, I figure Ichabod can convince the daughter not to flip out too much about the whole mother being tied up and evil thing. Or, you know, just cast sleep again.

I explain quite calmly that the Hell Knights requested my presence, and it seemed better to agree, in the spirit of full cooperation and all that. Then I attempt to ascertain what the chief hell knight (who is clearly much larger and scarier than me and whom a level 2 PC would clearly not want to gainsay if she valued her life) is yelling at me about, since I have clearly not done anything.

a.) Actually, I usually DON'T read people's spoilers. I just flip to see how long they are sometimes, and I saw my name. b.) I don't actually care if people read my spoilers, though I don't see why they have to be hostile to me if they do.

Sigh: I am assuming that by transfer group, you mean my fellow party members.
"I really have no idea, sir. I didn't see which direction they went in." <pause> "Well, since it's largely matching what I have, it could be a sign to continue on my current path. That would make sense, right?"

Also...: When Kadin gets into vehicle, she turns to whoever is sitting next to her and says, "C'n I ask you a question?" And assuming that they don't indicate that her continued talking will likely lead to bodily harm to her, she continues, "Let's say you were to ask a god for a sign. And then you mysteriously got a bag full of new stuff that was almost exactly the same as the stuff you already had. Would you take that as a sign?"

In fairness, I actually don't KNOW anything about the plans of the escaping "guards," cuz most of it has been posted in secret. I just know he HAS a plan, and it's prolly not full of roses and sunshine. :-p I also didn't know all the details of the gold exchange. I TOLD you I wasn't paying attention.

So... We got out of the sewers after being eaten by a gelatinous cube, finding a tiefling baby, and some other stuff that thankfully did not involve killing any more Hell Knights. And getting to level 2. Ding! We then met up with Ichabod and a bunch of other people that he is keeping track of at the safe house, which is as temple to the dead god of the city whose name I don't remember. We discovered that the leader of the organization that we may or may not join has been taken prisoner. Kadin and Aya went home and other party members had deep discussions about how to deal with the loot, of which Alcibades apparently stole rather a lot, but Dakaar beat him up for it. I'm not entirely clear how that got settled, cuz Kadin didn't really know/care. The next day, Kadin goes to work and finds out that the leader of the organization is being held prisoner at the town guard but is being transferred to the Hell Knights that afternoon. She takes an early lunch and shares this information with Ichabod. She goes back to work and the others discuss a plan. First, they get Kadin to steal them some guard uniforms. They - Dakaar, Aaron, Ichabod, and Alcibades - disguise themselves as higher-ranking-than-Kadin's-building guardsmen and insist that the prisoner be transferred to them. Their disguises, forgeries, and intimidations convince a guard (and Kadin, who doesn't recognize them) whom Jason has named Bullock that they should hand over the prisoner. As soon as they do so, the Hell Knights come to pick up the prisoner, but he is headed out the back with the "guards." Kadin's boss then emerges and immediately recognizes the forgery for what it is but doesn't tell the Hell Knights (who do NOT recognize the forgery as such) because she hates them and wants them to suffer. After the (irate) Hell Knights leave, she mobilizes the guards to find the escaped prisoner. Present locations of characters -
Anyone else can feel free to add to this admittedly Kadin-centric version of events.

Kadin's Prayer Part II: Um, are you sure this is what you want me to be doing? I mean, you said... implied... that you wanted me to help these people, but are you sure that involved breaking someone out of prison? By, you know, lying to the quartermaster, followed by LOOKING LIKE A TOTAL IDIOT. They are SO going to figure out I took those uniforms, and I am going to get at least fired and more likely thrown into jail for the duration of my life. Moreover, I think that these people might be insane. Could I get some kind of sign here?
Also, thanks so much for the cube. Just... Thanks for that.

Assuming that I read the zombies as evil, I have determined that I want to a.) get through this room and b.) assess the health state of the armingers. For both of these things, the tiefling zombies must die. I thus communicate my intentions to my party members, and, assuming they have no objections, move so that I am in the second X on the first row under me and attack the demon that I am catty-corner to. Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 If that hits...
