Ha! Reading the reviews, they both look investigation/social focused (and both say "if you're looking for a fight, don't play this). So neither are catered to Ma'Huuk, but I could swap for my Divine Hunter (paladin) Raman Sanjihartna, and be helpful in either. If we do that, Merchant's Wake is good because it's a faction that none of us will miss out on. :)

I could do either one of those, as well. And either look like some muscle would be useful. :) Here's Ma'huuk, by the way (though I'll be retraining his animal companion to the Ferocity subdomain before this scenario starts, btw).

My dru-barian might have a hard time being useful, as I've heard it's more of a skills/puzzle game. Ma'Huuk (the guy I'd like to put some XP on) has a rank in Knowledge (Local) and the rest of his skills are combat or nature related.

I'd love to get a game in with my lvl 2 Freedom's Edge Barbarian/Druid. Here's a link to the games I've played.

Jax is still trying to shake off the concussion and snap his broken nose back into place as the team works to piece the evidence together. He gives appreciative back-slaps and nods to Goran for bringing him back to consciousness, and oddly enough doesn’t seem to hold any ill-will towards the woman who’s taken his place on the floor. Still holding his nose up to stop the bleeding, Jax gives an awkward nod. ”Agreed,” he responds in a nasally version of his voice, ”The Society should make the call. This is bigger than Guaril’s vendetta.”

Harsh choice of words, ShadowLord. Totes harsh! ;P Stabilize, DC 10: 1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (14) + 1 - 3 = 12 Jax hits the floor hard, but he doesn't look too bad. Well, no uglier than normal, anyway.

Jax's eyes spring open. Many men, brushing this close to death, might wonder at the fragility of life. Or maybe its purpose. Jaxin, on the other hand, is a simple man. "Dang, I'm thirsty," he groans as he pulls a vial, pops the stopper, and downs its contents. "Thanks, Inspector." Retrieve and drink Potion of CLW

Bleeding, web-stuck, and with a pissed off badger hanging off his calf, Jax hunkers down behind his shield. "A little help," he gasps through clenched teeth. move to activate Martial Flexibility to gain Dodge for 1 minute. AC 19.
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
From the CRB: You gain the staggered condition and can only take a single move or standard action each turn (but not both, nor can you take full-round actions). You can take move actions without further injuring yourself, but if you perform any standard action (or any other strenuous action) you take 1 point of damage after completing the act. Unless your activity increased your hit points, you are now at –1 hit points and dying . Total Defense is a standard action, so I'm concerned it will, in fact, mean dropping to -1. I'm just wanting to see Shadowlord's ruling on it.
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
I believe that's considered Retrieving an Item, which would provoke 3 AoO's. So I'd love to hear about the Total Defense, as well as what it would take to step into one of those cages on the southern wall? Is that just movement (that could be done with 5' step? Or is a skill check required? And would it also provoke or cause Jax to lose 1 hp?
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Wow. Entangled, surrounded, and at 0 hp before I can act. This should be good.

Jax kneels down and pokes the unconscious woman on the cheek. "Guys .. I don't think this is a real ghost." Shrugging, he takes one of the potions, rubbing his chest where the crossbow hit. "You guys mind if I take one of these? She's not using it." Assuming no one objects, Jax drinks it
Then he takes whatever loot the group wants to bring and follows along, keeping his shield ready. Teh Survival check can be attempted untrained, right?
He keeps an eye out while the others inspect.

Will, DC 14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 Did Jax’s last attack hit the orange ghost? Did it affect her? Jax shakes his head, quickly blinking away the explosion of sparkles. "Well now that just ain't nice," he growls as he takes another following step, followed by another fist to the nose. 5' step to follow, then attack (with Oil of Magic Weapon active)
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Jax grunts at the impact as he takes a following step, readying his shield. "My turn," he mutters as he responds with his own attack, punching the ghost square in the nose. 5’ step right (map updated), Move action to ready shield, then unarmed strike Orange.
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Jax scowls at his inability to find a simple path to an actual opponent, then his eyes narrow on the two ghost-casters at the back. "Fine," he mutters, heading around the wall, "I'll go for them." Double move, ending adjacent to Orange.
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
This is when the IC/OOC info split sucks. I fully expected these to be illusions, but couldn't figure out a way to justify it from Jax's perspective. Sorry for wasting your oil, Pendergast. Is there any way for me to pay you back at the end of the scenario?
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Jax takes one of the oils, but holds onto it. "These ain't cheap. Let's make sure it's necessary to actually use it." He cuts his eyes over at the apparitions, nodding at Bregan's revelation, "Especially if we think there's something fishy about'em." "You think they're fake ghosts?" He waggles his fingers in a "hocus pocus" sort of way, "Some fake-magic ghost-things would sure keep most folks from looking too close at these ruins." He shrugs, "I'll go find out." unless someone stops him or suggests another plan, Jax tries to sneak past the ghosts, heading for the trap door. Stealth: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Jax is confused by Guaril's choice, but shrugs and follows the crew. When stopped for the ghosts, he raises his eyebrows, "Ghosts, huh? Can we go around? And is the trap door the entrance?" Where on the map is the trap door? Does that look like the only way to proceed?
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Jax nods at Guaril’s words, ”Resting is smart. I sure don’t wanna have to rest in some grubby swamp after a day of hiking. We can hit the trail hard tomorrow.” Consider my vote altered. Let’s rest the night and get going early tomorrow. Spending the night tracking through marshes and hitting them fatigued seems short-sighted, even it gives us surprise.
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
This is kind of a whim, but does Jax catch any deception or ulterior motives when Guaril speaks? He’s Varisian, right?
My vote right now is "the sooner the better", but I want to make sure the spell-casters among us are at full capacity (or close to it) when we head out.
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Jax shrugs, taking a bite of a caramel apple he picked up somewhere, and talking through a full mouth. "Sounds good." He frowns, "Do we know anything about this Varisian? Or the half-orc?" Other than the general troubles of navigating and fighting in the dark, are there any benefits to resting before we head out there? It might give us an edge, but I don't know how many resources folks used in that last fight. EDIT: or are we still on that first day of investigation ... meaning we're likely running low on class resources, huh?
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Without warning, Jax slugs the man. (nonlethal damage, hoping to knock him unconscious) He shrugs to his teammates, "What can I say? I'm a no-brain amateur." He stoops to search the man for useful items, "So, what now? Do we finish our search of the area then settle in to wait for Guaril?" He frowns, "Or do we think the note was a fake?"
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
”A half-orc, a Varisian, and a woman who smells of dirt, huh? There's a good tavern joke in there somewhere. This woman wouldn’t happen to be an elf, would she?” Jax looks over at his teammates, ”What are the chances we’ll find the half-orc and Varisian up in the swamps, too?” The young man gives the Razmiran a hard look, ”Give us names. The half-orc and the Varisian. We’re gonna get’em anyway, but this way we might go a bit easier on you. Also, we're here to meet Guaril. Where is he?” He makes a face and looks around, ”Also, what are the chances you got some food in here?”
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Jax catches up, dragging the other Razmiri roughly behind him. ”I don’t really know the rules around here, but I can’t imagine they’re real friendly to folks ambushin’ people just walkin’ around. Why don’t you tell us what you’re doing here … or maybe we can see how long you can swim with your hands and feet tied. My money’s on less than three minutes.” Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 He pauses to let the threat sink in, ”So who are you? Why attack us? And where is Guaril?”

Still not altogether sure what is happening with these zealots, Braegan stoops to grab the archer's collar, then drags the man back towards the remaining fight. "You tell'em, Esh!" Standard: grab the unconscious archer. Move: back towards the fight.
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Unaware of the man threatening the Inspector, Jax slides his shield into place as he closes on the archer. ”Let’s all be friendly. We’re here to meet Guaril. Not no living god.” Ready shield, move adjacent to Red (map updated) So, I fully intended to get healed up back at the Lodge by the VC. I guess that ship has sailed, huh?
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Not wanting to let a fellow pathfinder walk into a trap, Jaxin does the only thing he knows to do … he rushes forward, hoping to spring the trap himself. Double move, map updated. ”Yah! It’s us! We’re here! Don’t shoot!”
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
Jax looks around at the quiet docs. "So, let's do some snoopin'." He shrugs, "Nearest buildings first? Then make our way to the far bridge and head towards them water? Checking buildings as we go?" Basically, I suggest we check the nearest buildings first (starting with the top-most one on the map), then swing around the left side of the map. Which lets us approach up that middle east-west path, checking all buildings on the way and ending at the water front. If folks are agreeable...

Jax looks over his teammates's shoulders to read the note, munching loudly in their ear on a turkey leg pilfered from the Lodge's kitchens. "Oh nice *munch much* so another bit of fun today. *chomp chew* Maybe this time we can take someone actually a part of the team that's been makin' all this happen." He pauses to think, slurping some grease off his fingertips. "Anything we wanna do before midnight?" He shrugs with a half-grin, then tosses the bone aside ... producing another from a rag in his pack. "I'm up for whatever."
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
I say good cop/bad cop? At the lodge, Jax unceremoniously dumps the woman down on the floor. Then he leans close, waiting for the VC to use a touch of magic to awake her. When her eyes flutter open, it's to Jax's ugly mug mere inches in front of hers. "Wakey wakey, lady." He pats the dagger and rapier hanging from his belt, "I've already gotten to take a few of your toys away, so you've really only got one option." He plants a finger in the middle of her forehead, "Do. As. We. Say." Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Half-orc Brawler 1.0 :: HP 12/12 :: AC 16 CMD 17 :: Fort +5 Reflex +6 Will +4 :: Initiative +2 Perception +6
When Goran returns, Jax gives the man a grin, ”Nah. I’m good.” He looks around at the market, ”though we might want to get scarce.” He thumps the unconscious woman—who still hangs limply over his shoulder—on the thigh, ”And we might want to get this girl back to the Lodge. And her friend here … if he’s still breathing, anyway.” He looks down at the man, ”Is he still breathing?” Jax looks antsy to move on. Where to? Back to the lodge to question them?
