Jack stands silently, just looking at his friends while nodding in appreciation. "We've earned this brief respite, but let's not let our guard down. We'll be walking into the viper's den if we attend, and perhaps underpowered, if we don't want to go to this masquerade armed to the teeth and dressed as adventurers."

He gives Canacha a smile, picturing her dolled up, dressed in a fancy dress. "Still, this venture won't be without its rewards...."

Sorry for the silence. Busy with work and other projects. The double level-up is also messing with my brain some, but I'll keep plugging away at that when I have the time. No excuse for me not posting regularly, at least.

"Well done, friends!" Jack exclaims as the devil falls. With a grin crossing his face he adds, "Now let's grab a few rewards and get out of this place!" The urban ranger claims his first "reward" by stealing a quick kiss from Canacha. Next he moves to the iron chest to check it for traps and then, hopefully, open it.

Totally forgot that Mira had cast haste and maybe started inspiring courage as well (though in my defense, they both occurred in the same post over a month ago), so both of Jack's attacks from my last post would have an additional +3 to hit and an additional +2 to damage (if the attacks hit). Also, I didn't roll Jack's extra attack from haste that he earns by using the full attack action, so I'll roll that now....

I'm pretty sure you can only take one action during a surprise round, and can only attack if you charge your foe (which Jack couldn't). If the erinyes's action in the surprise round was to draw her bow, then maybe Jack's up again for the first round of regular combat, so....

Having coated his +1 mithral short sword with the magical oil, Jack waits until the door is opened and then scoots in and closes on the erinyes.

Can't charge (no straight line to the erinyes), but at least Jack'll get an AoO if she tries to use her bow. I'll roll that in a spoiler in case she provokes.

Jack, poor in coin but fairly rich in equipment, raises one eyebrow when Logan mentions a payroll but then merely shrug. "We didn't join this rebellion to get rich...," he points out with a wistful smile.

Sorry for the silence. Real life got hectic and I fell behind on pretty much everything. Catching up now.

Jack will go along with the party consensus (or with a single PC who commits to a plan). Despite what he said above, rebellions also work better when they're well-funded.

"Both-both!" Jack quietly answers Canacha with a grin. He gives a more serious nod at Mirabella's words to Logan. The chest intrigues him, however, so he leaves guard deception and redeployment to his fellow nobleman and examines the chest for traps. After that, he'll decide on whether or not there's time to try to pick a lock on the chest or simply hide to ambush the guards, depending upon developments.

"Uh, yeah--right!" Jack replies, initially looking a bit distracted. He quickly regains any lost composure before adding, "No telling how many more enemies we'll have to tie up over the course of the rebellion!"

The ranger sheepishly admits that he carries no rope. Then, with a shrug, he walks over to Canacha and kisses her tenderly on the cheek. As he pulls away with a smile, he whispers, "Remember, love--no names...even if Jack isn't my real one."

Jack ignores the noble outfits but loots everything else, removing the bottles of brandy from the crate to hand individually amongst the party. He snorts (almost Canacha-style) as he stifles a laugh upon seeing Thrune's pet name on the wooden wyvern.

Jack takes a moment to use his hunter's bond (companions) ability to grant his fellow "upstarts" an extra boon against Lucian Thrune. Then he uses a second move action to engage the enemy, attempting to draw any attack of opportunity the commander may have to spare his friends a potential wound. Jack banters a bit as he moves in. "Telepathic message? Now that's impressive! Maybe Barzillai has more gray matter inside that big, ugly head of his than we gave him credit for!"

Jack scoots into the corner, keeping secret from the commander that he and his allies are hasted.

Haste Effects This Round: +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves.

Hunter's Bond: Grants half his favored enemy bonus against a single target of the appropriate type (in this case, Lucian Thrune). +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls; +2 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge (local), Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against Lucian; duration--1 round only!
