M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Programming is absolutely a form of technical writing. As such, it has an internal jargon, and common words or abbreviations may not have the common meaning.

One of the first rules new programmers learn through pain is that you can't assume anything about what the customer means, you have to work with them to ensure you build a common understanding despite having different vocabularies.

"No, we should be good. Take it." Then he turns to examine the wall.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

<snicker>

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"I hear the confidence that the book is with him, but if we're going to spend the night, we should check to see if we can find any sign of it before we leave. I would hate to walk away from the book and then have to come back for it."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Once they are all back into the vault, Garl will start looking around for anything interesting, as well.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"So, again we abandon checking to see if there's anyone here who needs help? She can't wait the 5 or 10 minutes it will take to verify we're alone?"

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Fort DC 11: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

"I don't know. Ma always said dust bunnies would be the death of her."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Not thinking there's much room to help pull the bar, Garl lines up and slams his foot into the door, as close to the latch as he can manage.

Str to assist: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Up it is." Not seeing much point in trying to be stealthy since he's carrying the light, he decides to do what he can to prevent throwing much shadow from Lazar.

Stealth assist: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Garl moves further into the space. "We're looking for anybody who needs help right now, right? We can check this shipment for our book afterwards."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

The young man stands there, shaking his head as he watches the group scatter, knowing how little light is available, but also knowing he can't go with everyone at the same time. No reason to trust the Aiel enough to be alone with him, though, so he steps toward Navarre and Lazar.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

The woodsman will follow along with the light unless waved off.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

We're slowly working our way through the 1st floor, then we have upstairs to go through.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Garl dutifully brings the lantern along to keep it easier to see.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Uh, guys? You were all so eager to see if our host is alive somewhere not 3 minutes ago. This stuff's not going anywhere, and if he is alive, our host might need immediate help."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Garl admires the door, and the effort it takes to move it. "So, THAT's a vault door, then? Never seen one before. You opened it up easily enough. Anybody in there, or should we come back to this, too?"

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Yeah, while he's grumbling about it, Garl knows it is really the most contribution he can make right now. THAT's why he's grumbling, really.

Mumbling to himself about being the lantern bearer, the easiest target, in a house of horrors, Garl moves with the others, doing his best to make sure they can see. Whether he wants to think about it in detail again or not, he's already accepted that his bow is the least useful weapon in the group inside this house, and he's avoiding breaking the peacebonds on his others unless he really needs to.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Man has a point. The whole reason we're here could be in this ibrary." He shrugs, and moves to help look.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

The botted Ceirn said that, not the player Ceirn.

Everything in this confusion derives from some using one declared Ceirn action and others using the other declared Ceirn action.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

?? Garl's got the light source, and followed Navarre. Then Ceirn followed Navarre. So, not the light source didn't follow Ceirn, but he followed it?

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Sure." He puts word to deed, looking into the newly illuminated space.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Looking at the light source, and then back to Jak. "We've seen at least 2 things so far that aren't books which might be highly prized. Don't confuse The Book as being the only thing here that someone might want."

Perception as we begin The Search: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Looking about the entry, the young woodsman shakes his head. "There's an awful lot of building to search for a single book. This could take a while."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Dead. No one else seen. No injuries. Get inside."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Sorry. Was playing Santa, then came down with COVID. Coherent enough for simple posts again. Had to sit out the last 5 days of the season in isolation. Yep. Includes today.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

The woodsman looks confused as Lazar talks about working on it and pulls out a bunch of tools. "All we should have to do is move the bar and open the door? What kind of work are you talking about?"

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"This is . . . unusual. I don't see any sign that there was someone here for him to struggle with, but the scuff marks look like he was struggling by himself, anyway? It is possible he had an opponent, but feet that light through a fight? I've never seen the like." He looks sideways at Ceirn.

"A barred door isn't that unusual if you are home alone in a dangerous place or trying to protect something valuable. But they aren't common, either, not in homes or simple shops, at least, not in my experience."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"The more time we spend standing in the scuffs, and you spend moving him and his things around, the harder it will be to tell, but I can look and try to figure it out."

Survvial for Tracking to guess what happened: 1d1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 2 = 23 +2 vs Aiel, again.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Hard to get much help from a dead man. Doesn't look much like a bookseller, though, does he? Far too big."

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 +2 vs Aiel

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Got it. Not like I'm going to use the bow in here, anyway. Keep your knives handy, though, okay?"

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Not saying anything, Garl moves to find out. Can he pick up the light source and carry it with him?

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"That was a weird light effect. What's going on?"

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Still in the back of the group, standing in a small hallway, Garl really doesn't have much of an idea what the rest are looking at, or why they've stopped. "What do you mean no doors? There's got to be a door. A mirror to go with the light? Try reflecting the light around, maybe?"

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"What do you think I'm doing, admiring your butt?" Garl's as on edge as anyone else, maybe moreso as he hasn't found a suitable club just yet, leaving him holding his bow, still.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Holding such an unwieldy weapon as his bow, Garl is happy to take rearguard as the team moves further into the building. He spends almost as much effort looking for something to pick up to use as a club as he does watching for any nasty surprises. No, the pottery won't let me strike twice. Bench is too big . . ..

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Assuming his handaxe was peachbound . . ..

Not really liking working with his bow in these quarters, but not having anything else at hand, yet, Garl pulls the bow and nocks an arrow before following anyone through the door.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Shaking his head, confused about how much stealth could be possible after landing on the rooftop, Garl doesn't crouch or slink, but he does step quietly while he looks for the way down. This wouldn't be set up as a patio without a convenient way to get to it, right?

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

The woodsman attempts to catch up to his companions.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Facepalm

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"I'm not going to be left alone to take the blame for your shenanigans!" Garl ignores the Aes Sedai as he begins climbing the rope to join the others . . ..

Climb: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

So, generic posting of warning.

My wife reports for surgery in roughly 12 hours.

Her surgeon has asked me to take 2 weeks from work to be at home to provide assistance.

That will also mean corralling the two grandchildren, keeping them entertained and fed while their Mom works, and keeping them out of Grandma's hair.

Can't say that I'm positive what my posting habits will be like until I can return to my normal schedule.

Thank you for your understanding, and go kill something evil, will ya?

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"The more people that go up the rope, the harder it will be to go unnoticed. It is amazing if no one hasn't already noticed, really."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Oh, the blind Survival roll was to track? Then I get my +2 for a total of 20, still not enough for the 25.

Garl allows them to peace bond his sword without comment. He doesn't hid the handaxe, but doesn't offer it, waiting to see if they include it in the category of blades or not. If they do, he doesn't fight them bonding it also.

As the townsman displays his lack of both moral strength and imagination, Garl fails his mother a little, and reacts rather than walking away. "I may have been kissing the goat, but your mother was working the other end!" He did NOT wait for a response, but left before the local decided to test his peace bonds. Not Garl's finest moment, and he feels guilty for succumbing to the urge almost immediately.

When they reached Jair's Publisher, Garl is too focused on thinking about how he should have walked away pleasantly instead of goading the local to properly examine the area.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

Mu-wah-ha-ha!

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"If we're lucky, the information will tell us that. If we're not, we'll have to discuss it, of course."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Absolutely." He retrieves his things from where they were placed before the whole dying man's leg explodes incident and meets the others at the door.

Seeing Jak clean up after himself, Garl frowns and looks at his shoes, back at his own dishes, and back at his shoes.

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"Fairly well governed and protected means that the evil men do is better hidden, not absent. It can mean that some pay for the right to misbehave. It can mean that those caught pay dearly for their choices. The one thing it never means, though, is that the common people are actually safe from the abuses of others."

M Midlander Human Woodsman 5

"You seem to have a strong opinion about this. What if you're wrong, though, and it isn't the quick walk in and out you have envisioned. I mean, did you envision what we found here? I certainly didn't."

Especially given the GMs comments, I don't have FOMO, but the characters certainly still can!
