An LN Android Monk. Beyond Good and Evil:
Prone to introspection as he makes his way in the world trying to answer questions regarding the definition of existence, the understanding of emotions, the meaning or life, alignment, what makes people horrified and this inexplicable force that urges being to continue... this - will to power.
Curious. 35+ years:
East Coast. I avoid super lengthy posts, but try to move forward with each post and give everyone a chance to contribute. I'm in several games with varying rates. Would love a deeper cerebral RP. Theme: I am Machine - Three Days Grace I am Machine - Lyrics: by Three Days Grace Here's to being human
I wish I knew what it was like
I wish I knew what it was like
I am machine
I am machine
I am machine
I am machine
Here's to being human
I wish I knew what it was like
I am machine
I am machine
I am machine
I am machine
It wasn't supposed to be this way
I am machine
I am machine
I am machine
I am machine
Makes perfect sense, it's just that for me the background contributes to/rationalizes the mechanics/crunch... and the game mechanics are usually based on the setting and intended type of game. Wouldn't want to bring a knife to a gun fight, as it were. He's a nice guy, takes pride in his work... A healthy level of detail, but not a perfectionist. Things change, he adapts. The right tool for the job. Sometimes the tool is you. Brings some art to crafting, creativity to complement the mechanical operations. He's helpful, open and gregarious.
The Lost Voice wrote: The trade is more the profession that they were pursuing when they got discovered. In Gabriel's case, it may seem like a cover, but that also depends on how well the fusion has integrated. Apologies, the complication is my own making, I'll try to explain my thoughts. If the campaign in based on clandestine operations, there would be a need not to be so unique or individual... not to stand out or draw attention. So being a weapon or armor smith, or item crafter... you wouldn't want to be known for it, it's too identifiable. On the other hand if the campaign is straight up, out in the open... Gabriel the Smith went down to the ancient burial ground to investigate the disturbance... "Gabriel, he's such a nice fellow... and so creative, he is an aspiring weaponsmith and artist. When I'm old enough to join the militia, I'm going to ask him to make a sword for me." Trade, I typically think public... to transact and be known. In one campaign, it was dangerous to worship Desna because a starknife was rare and too identifiable. Unfortunately, it was what my character was built around. Sorry, rambling. Knowing s little more about the type of campaign/activities might help me. Thanks for your patience!
The Lost Voice wrote: However, if your general basis is a "Weapon X" sort of scenario, Wolverine (and Sabretooth) have generally been loners, and that does not translate so well into a group game. Agreed, but those were more examples of the program or facility and not the character per se. The dichotomy/conflict is between his general NG alignment, helpful, pleasant, collaborative yet grounded/rooted in his own human identity (nice guy, help others, sacrifice)... vs. the CN of entity aberration bring of power (help myself, will to power, high Mach). Is the trade meant to be a cover? I would think cartwright (carpentry, smithing, leatherwork, engineering). Carts, wagons, coaches, animal gear. Gets in with businesses, fixes things. Creative outlet... glass. Glazier, stained glass, etc...
The Lost Voice wrote: (Gabriel XIII) I'm speculating that the aberration was fused with them at the facility, and the memory could have been forcibly forgotten or repressed. What aberration was fused with them? Did they gain any access to powers with the initial fusion? The owners of the facility hired a teacher for one person? Others? How many "Others" were there, if any? What was their goal? May I ask that we not use player name? It's my real name. Gabriel:
You are correct, at the facility. And yes, most subjects forgot who they were, lost their sense of identity... But, not Gabriel (in that sense, he's a failure - but otherwise, he excelled). They are boggled, unable to identify why - that human x-factor (Marvel reference unintended).
There is a vignette in the alias/profile (for feel), but basically they were experimenting on making super soldier/agents, alchemy of the mind or unlocking gestalt synergies. Weapon X, Ender's Game, etc... The experiment was for one to two dozen subjects, several dying along the way... complications, being put down, combat trials, etc... In my current background, all perished except for Gabriel. That can be changed, and of course there may be other facilities in other regions. The teacher was to help them cope and adjust to changes (although, she was not aware of the experiments, just that they were recovering). She may have had her ideas, but the money was good and no untoward behavior was evident or sustained in hey presence I did not take aberration as Pathfinder literal (creature type) but now as a disembodied being, astral? Like from Superman's phantom zone. Demon, angel, alien... a willful entity, seeking to manifest physically. I believe the Spheres are Mind and Telekinesis. I understand if the concept is not a good fit for the game.
The facility masqueraded as a farmstead several a couple of hours or of the nearest settlement (this community) and the keepers would hire a teacher to come and teach. She teaches the subjects art, calligraphy, manual dexterity (sleight of hand, disable device), craft (jewelry, lock, clothes, leather, clockwork?), dance and some "meditation." She doesn't know why this curriculum... But, it's because when the Symbiat is first created and the host is shared, the two beings need to learn to work together and not against one another. On the last night, during the destruction... Gabriel saves the teacher from the burning building in which she was trapped. She had always been kind and supportive. He shares very little of what the place was, and she takes him in as a boarder. She is the master that eventually gives him the coin. I still don't have an exact craft or profession - I typically fill in the party gaps. He is probably not originally from the town.
The Lost Voice wrote: (Gabriel XIII): Where did they come from? Was their entire life an experiment? What would their trade be? Was thinking of a Weapon X type scenario originally. Was a darker world, perhaps. I'm not certain I caught what this setup is, are the "coin givers" good (agents), evil, indifferent? Knowing would help shape the backstory. Is it like in John Wick? Some quality he had caught someone's eye. Trade could be anything, something around movement... Costume designer, tailor, actor.
I have an Armiger/Symbiat 2/2. Most of the crunch is there, as well as background... But he wasn't meant for a Star Wars campaign. Maybe an escaped Clone, turned mercenary or bounty hunter. Yes, yes... I'm all about the Boba Fett, although I wouldn't call it a fett-ish. He's all about agility, speed and movement. If anyone wants to take a look, borrow ideas or comment... I'm open.
Background added for you touchy feely types. Damned if you Duo:
Gabriel... they tried to change his name, tell him he was someone else, but they couldn't. It wasn't even his given name, it's what his mother wished to call him... She's whisper it in the lullabies.
Then, they "introduced" the other-mind and waves of nausea, days of confusion and what seemed an eternity of fear. It wasn't there, and then it was... he couldn't shake it. Watching, waiting to "get" him. A desire, no... a hunger for him. It was invasive, under his skin, and unstoppable force within his very psyche. And so he became the immovable object, Gabriel. And it, no... she gave... herself a name. Michal. Perfectly paired, complementary, supplementary... coming to an understanding that it was in their best interest to co-exist. She nursed him back to health in the mindscape, he promised to fight and never surrender so that she may live. Neither would give up on the other. It was a pact of sorts. They were proof that the trials were a success. And, they were the reason the experiments should never have been attempted. The other subjects broke under the stress, becoming insane in some manner or another. The less insane ones excelled in combat. Fitting after all, they were meant to be the perfect soldiers, spies, operatives... But, none would come to defeat Gabriel... honest with himself, he knew they could. He wasn't the fastest, nor the smartest and definitely not the strongest. Eventually, the fights were to the death... And to Gabriel's surprise it was Michal who held back, refusing to kill a fellow subject... and that was when all Hells broke loose. If guns become important, some RP opportunities with Jean-Guy and he can take Firearms Proficiency at just about any level. He can customize a gun and it works with the Sniper sphere. Character is founded on adapting to the situation, assimilating... Adopt, adapt, adept. Background theme, Bring me to Life
The bones are in the alias (choices made), still updating the calculations... Character is well rounded, full of RP potential and story hooks. Future character progression will depend on what capabilities prove more useful. It's a full Spheres character, multi-class Practitioner/Spherecaster. A product of a failed clandestine experiment, Gabriel escaped as all subjects were being destroyed. He tried warning the others, but they wouldn't listen. Tortured, he is constantly reconciling his now two halves. Some days are better than others. Keenly interested in the political and power systems in place... Gabriel wants to make a positive impact. And make the most of his second chance. Redemption. Gabriel HP Armiger 2, Symbiat 1, 2: 1d10 + 2d8 ⇒ (8) + (4, 4) = 16
I think it's coming together... The idea is dinner parties and "dancing." Unsure if I need caster or tech dip to build up to that concept.
How would I build a ranger/scout-type frontliner with Barrage, Weapon Finesse, Athletics & Equipment... I don't mind a little tech, at least in the weapons (retractable whips, staff - reticulating?) So... high init, mobility, dodge, stealth... Dex to melee damage. I would think a Dex/Con build. Just acclimating to the ruleset and read a few of the gameplay posts. This concept seems to fit with the group. Conscript?

In a large force they may not know each other by face. Cults beat individuality out of you, so you... cow and obey. The insignia and uniform may be enough. And, it doesn't have to make them our friends. Just get us close enough to do whatever we need to. Better that being identified as intruders from a distance by sentries. It is only one facet of the scenario. Garbiel looks at Sarasanna for a spell. Your questioning is... appreciated. We each bring our own skills and viewpoints to any given situation or scenario. Only, when we are each either satisfied with probable success or willing to accept the risk of an action, will we be successful.

It could lower their guard. Or afford us access, otherwise prohibited. The rest can be your prisoners. I would suggest carrying their weapons as well as the... unholy symbol. If enough pieces are familiar, they will hand wave us through.

Without asking, as if it is the most natural thing, Gabriel moves to help Sarasanna don the armor. His assistance is professional and matter of fact. Interesting, you both carry the deprecated gear. I've always valued travelling light. I suck at record keeping, sorry.

The list of potential enemies increases... Does anyone see useful gear on these men? Perhaps if they are in league with the foreign tribe, their uniforms and markings would aid in disguise should infiltration or surprise becomes desirable. Gabriel looks around. Let's move on.
