Having passed the winged lizard, The Wind's Call began to make good time, backed by a cold wind from the north. After days of sailing, the first hint of trouble was the way the horizon was enveloped in darkness, the roiling hint of a storm so massive that the end of it could be seen in neither direction. Staying calm, Kargoth (now Captain Kargoth) instructed the small crew (which consisted of Kylar the strong, Schenia the tricky, Pious Torgen, Joshua the treacherous, and the old crone leeshu) to lash themselves to the boat and prepare for the worst. "Whatever happens, we must keep the ship together, or we shall surely die."
Erande finds himself floating above the world that he has had a hand in creating. Watching the peoples of the world grow and change he smiles, feeling the power of life growing with him. As the light from the plane of Yidhra (does it have a name? Erande resolved to ask her next time he saw her) basked the planet, he thought about the gods he had met, and to his surprise, he noticed that he had gained in power, at least by the measure that gods notice such things. Pleased, he decided to continue his quest to give all the gods a gift. Now was just a manner of finding the right gift for each of them. Floating there, he decided to give it some thought... Erande watched the march of time and people, moving about them and experiencing what they do. Everywhere he went, he met someone who was inspiring hope in others. When he felt that he knew enough, he gathered them all together on his continent and allowed them to meet and know each other. He taught them songs that would allow them to talk to each other over great distances, and gave them a common purpose: the protection of hope. To that end, he named them Chevron. After allowing them to meet, he returned them to their homes, richer for the experience. On the continent of his creation, Erande created a race of eight legged creatures that would be useful as mounts. Feline like, they could climb and leap, and travel long distances. Bred by the people of the trees to be protectors, the felines, called Coels, flourished. To The People, he gave Pegasi, winged horses that would allow them to fly like the angels. To the Jezites, he gave Elephants, massive beings that they could ride around on at their leisure. To the changelings, he gave Mung, Amorphous beings that would serve as companions to their masters, as they bonded their lifeforce with them and would live as long as their masters did. With all of these actions, Erande became visible amid the gathered gods in Nex's domain and said "How's that for interesting life?" don't forget cocoa. I definitely created that. on a more serious note, now that we have a couple of additional gods that have some overlap I think I will refocus what I have spent some of my points on, domain wise, as I was working on artifice and nobility, and we now have gods who have those as their primary focus. Keep in mind that I have already created storytelling magic (the song), but it's limited at the moment to specific individuals (which I will be making an organization for today), but it's not restricted to members of a specific race (although Lagdon's races probably don't have access to it yet, given how he's been describing his people).
As Kargoth continued his travels across the great sea, Erande turned his gaze to other acts that occurred across the world. He reflected on his actions thus far, and decided that he wished to focus on making the lives of all the mortals of the world better. First, however, he would need to gain more divine abilities that would allow him to do so. He thought about his place among the others, and he realized that there were multiple gods of death, but none to champion the cause of life. He knew that that must change, as there must ever be balance to the cosmos. He also knew that in order to take up this mantle, he would need to create more life. He decided to create more people to fill the world. On the continent he created, The people of the trees sprung up, fully formed from the idea that he had in his mind. These lithe, attractive people were each bound to a tree, and they would live as long as their trees did. He knew that this might offend the others, so he decided to grant each the gift of life: To Aeon, he granted the Celestials, a group of beings who performed the support roles necessary for the angels to do their works: creating and forging weapons, maintaining the heavens, and providing mortal soldiers to support their wars. Though longer lived than the mortals of the planet below, these Celestials still lived, loved, and died like another other. To Oenar, Erande gave the gift of the griffon: Intelligent beasts that appeared as eagles the size of bears. Though they looked fierce, these beings were the souls of peace who sought enlightenment, and travelled the world to gather knowledge to share. To Azdan, Erande gave his word that when reality did indeed end again, that he would not fight it, although he did add that he could not speak for his creations, as they were their own beings. To Yidhra, he gave the Changelings, a race of beings who could change their appearance as they wished. They would live for centuries as mortals measured time. To Nihil, the empty, he gave nothing, which he felt that the Void would enjoy... He would ponder his gift to Nico Bolos, Melehan, and Jezebelle, as he knew that he would have to wait and gain more power before giving his gift to them. Kargoth paused but a moment, then said: "Life. The body is earth, the breath the wind, blood is the water, and Fire is the fire inside all things that live, that they may seek something better." The creature leaned in close to Kargoth, it's fetid breath washed over the Indar, and said "Your answer is true. My boon is thus: take this, and use it to shield yourself from those who would harm you." As it spoke, the lizard plucked a scale from it's breast and handed it to Kargoth. While but a small scale to the lizard, to the Indar hero the scale was large enough to be shaped into armor, and hard enough to turn aside many a sword blow. "Go now, with my blessing, Kargoth of the Indars. Go, and meet your fate." Chuckling to itself, it rose into the air, each beat of it's wings raising it higher into the sky, until it was so high that it could not be seen.
As the Wind's Call made it's way past the massive moving Iceburgs that make up the border between the sea and Oenar's realm, The tiny crew saw many wonders that the Indar had never seen before, but the greatest of all was the massive winged lizard that appeared before the seacraft, beating it's mighty wings to keep itself afloat, while greeting the crew: "Kargoth of The Indar, come forth to speak with me" called the beast, it's voice like a roar. As Kargoth stepped forward, he introduced himself. "I am Kargoth of The Indar. We seek simple passage through this water to the foretold land of the gods. Say what you will." The beast regarded this for a moment, then said "I would offer you a boon for your voyage, Should you be able to answer my riddle. If you get the answer incorrectly, I would get to eat you, and if you answer correctly, I will let you on your way, with something that you will need to complete your journey. Either way, I have some entertainment today. What say you?" Kargoth thought for a moment, then said "I accept. Name your riddle." Chuckling, the lizard said "Very well. My riddle is thus: What has air but no sail, earth but no trees, water but no ships, and fire but nothing to burn."
Erande watched the creation of the underworld, which was necessary, and Yidhra's monsterous races, which would be useful in telling a good story, but were harmful to the world in general. between the undead, lycanthropes, vampires, and monstrous races, Things were looking grim for The People, The Jezites, and The Indars. While Erande could not intervene directly (as he discovered that doing so rarely was his perview), Those who could understand the song protected their peoples, there were only a few, and they could not be everywhere. As Golath conquered and united The Indar, Erande knew it was only a matter of time before they united and gave chase to Kargoth's tiny crew.
Erande watched the bickering between the deities of death, and was worried for his Indars. He saw the creation of undeath, and doubt gnawed at his brain. Yet even as these darker things began to take place, he watched the first symphony that was created by the Jezites, and wept tears of exultant joy, so heartbreakingly beautiful was the sound. Turning his attention back towards his future king, he saw that there were only a handful of people who had chosen to accompany Kargoth on his "Mad Quest". He despaired that one of them was one of Golath's followers, bent on murdering all aboard. The first hurdle that the ship, called The Wind's Call, had to deal with was the floating mountains of ice that were created from the intermixing of Oenar's realm and Erande's ocean. I figured that this would be a good spot if anyone wanted to make Kargoth's journey "interesting."
As the peoples of the world began to form the tribes or clans that would one day become mighty countries and empires, Erande's sight was drawn to certain individuals amongst the Indar, the people, and the jezites: individuals who were storytellers, or teachers. These, he put into contact with each other, allowing them to know each other and realize they had a common cause. To this loose confederation of like-minded individuals, he taught a style of magic that made their ability to teach and inspire more powerful, something that did not originate solely from within them. He taught them the magic of The Song, Which could be used to heal or harm, inspire hope or fear, or let a mortal move beyond their concerns, if only for a moment. As the individuals began to train and experiment with this new gift, Erande approached Kargoth of the Indars again, this time as a young boy delivering a package. "Sir, someone told me to bring this to you!" Opening the package, Kargoth discovered plans and notes for creating vessels which could survive the open seas, which used leathers from the hides of creatures as sails, and local materials to create floating ships. Erande bowed, and said "Apparently I am, Lady Winter. I thought that the northern lands should have barbarians, and thus they did. When I thought that northern lands should have southern lands, they appeared. I'm not too sure what's going on exactly, except that things that I think about seem to come to pass." As Erande talked to Oenar, he kept noticing that there was one barbarian who stood out to him. He could see that he was smaller than the others, and they picked on him relentlessly; So much so, in fact, that at one point it nearly killed him, as they shoved him into one of the frozen lakes. "Excuse me lady, I will return shortly." Drawing himself into the form of one of the Indars, he approached the young Indar and hauled him from the river. "What is your name, boy?" he asked. "I am Kargoth. Thank you for saving me." "It was my pleasure. It's not every day I get to save a future king." "Ha! like any would follow me. I am too small to be a warchief." "They will if you do as I say: gather those that will follow you and create boats to sail south. After much time has passed, you will find land, much larger than the land here. make your way to the largest mountain range on that land, and inside the cave at the top of the south side of the mountain, you will find a blade. One that will give you the power to be a king among your people." Dropping his veil to show Kargoth his true glory, he then added "NOW GO!" Returning to Oenar, Erande bowed and said "Apparently I'm a god now. How very odd." Actions: Gain power (Many-Faced Trickster) -5 AP Raise hero (Kargoth, the barbarian king) -2 AP AP left: 0
Erande watched as the wolf "fell" past him, unsure of what was going on, but willing to follow her, as he had yet to see anything else since the explosion of the portal. Watching as she created land for herself to fall on, Erande instinctively knew that he would need followers to sustain his power. Tentatively, he thought about those who would be interested in epics. He wasn't quite sure why that was important to him, but he knew that it was. Then it came to him suddenly: Barbarians! They loved stories of epic battles. Before he realized what he was doing, he watched as the barbarians appeared fully formed on the ice shelf that Oenar had made. Now they just need somewhere to sail to. with stuff to battle there! and like that, an ocean with a southern continent was formed, then connected to Oenar's winter area. The southern continent was lush, and covered with primeval forests. Because his barbarians would need incentive to be heroes, he placed a sword in a cave atop a high mountain. This sword he would call Heroe's Song, after the blade that his friend Koltos carried. Cause all the cool kids are doin it: Character Info: Name: Erande Played By: Vrog Domains (Portfolios): Glory, Liberation (Hope, Heroes, Epics) Theme: Writer of the first epic Alignment: Neutral Good Attack: 1d6 Defense: 1d6 HP: 80 Description: Erande tends to take the appearance of either a young boy who inspires other youngsters to pretend to be heroes and go on adventures, or an old man warming his bones by a fire who tells grand tales of heroes of old. Good-hearted, he despises tyrants and uses heroes to see them toppled. Erande is also the god of the legendary journey (journey to the west or the lords of the rings style epic).
Ask, and ye shall receive: Erande was the member of a group of great heroes that rose up among mortals during the great war: Sir Mylos Fearbreaker, a noble archer and leader of men, Coral: a wizard prodigy, Kolker Stormhammer: Stout dwarven warrior and craftsman, and Koltos, a reformed assassin. Erande travelled with them to document their tale in the battles with the monstrosities that arose from the war between the gods. During a lull in the fighting, Sir Mylos pulled Erande away from the others and sent him to get aid from their elven allies, saying "You are the most familiar of us amongst them, and have the most friends there. We will need the aid of their army to hold the gates on this side so that we can go and convince the gods to break off of their war before they destroy all of creation. " It was only afterwards that Erande realized that he had been left behind intentionally by his friends, in a misguided effort to "protect" him. Rallying the elves to his side, He raced to the gate in order to have them secure it while he chased his companions through the portal. Arriving at the portal, Erande was outpacing the elves by a good clip and thus was the only one who was bathed in the energy of the massive explosion that accompanied the destruction of the portal. The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was the wall of white that was approaching him. On waking, he realized that he was floating in a void, surrounded on all sides by white. He also realized that he had ascended to the ranks of the heavenly, as if that meant anything now. Looking in all directions, he saw what could only be several other nascient deities beginning to work on a world. Instinctively he wanted to join them, though he couldn't tell anyone who asked why that would be, only that it had to be so. |
