Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

After removing the bolt, Elsdyn continues to work on the dwarf. He rapidly but carefully, removes Koridur's backpack then wraps him up in Koridur's cloak. He places the dwarf's hands on the outside holding Koridur's sword point down and when the stretcher is ready he will place Koridur in it with his backpack at his feet. It is obvious that this is not the first time he has seen to a fallen companion.

Listening to the others conversation he comments as he is working;
"Aye, the goblins feast on the fallen and wear their bones as ornaments, it is not a fate I shall leave a comrade too.

The fire would alert those assembled below and is not the dwarven way. It is best we take Koridur with us. Though a safe resting place till we or his fellow dwarfs can return, I think, he would find acceptable.

The orc and I will carry him, though be aware it will take a moment longer for us to respond to threat so additional care must be taken.

Also, Master Gloisel, it appears our goblin companion has some influence with yon goblins. Though I trust them not, perhaps we can speed and ease our way with guides that can avoid the worst?"

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn sees the shock on Desidera's face and remembers his first battlefield...He walks up to her and places a hand on her shoulder then says

"We need to get the bolt out, if thee could gather some cloth to limit the bleeding."

He turns to the others "If someone can put together a stretcher quickly, regardless of Koridur's condition here is not a place to rest."

Then to the orc. He points at a spot not too distance from the body on the shaft. "Think thee can break this bolt here?"

Assuming he gets an afirmative from the orc. On my signal then. He braces the bolt to minimize the cutting affect on the dwarf.

In dwarven "Friend Koridur, we are going to cut the bolt and remove it, steel thyself and make thy piece with thine dwarven gods, rest assured whatever happens thee hast done thine anscestors proud this day."

He then gives the signal to the orc.

Once the bolt is cut he will look and see if Desidra has recovered enough and gotten the cloth. If not he will gather the cloth and have the orc pull the bolt through. Otherwise he will ask Desidra to hold the cloth and he will pull it through. He knows the dwarf will likely be dead after this if not before, but sees no alternative.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn does not swing at the fleeing goblins, striking a helpless being in the back even an evil foe would not bring honor to the Lady. Instead he wipes his sword off and sheaths it then turns to Desidera and the dwarf.

"Milady, be there any aid I can give thee? Though not blessed with thine skill or divine gifts I have some knowledge of battlefield dressing."

Elsdyn positions himself best to protect those less armored (using a 5' move as necssary) and strikes at the nearest goblin. If there is no goblin in range he will charge as wel

if charging will need to modify the rolls

Elsdyn, being somewhat unobtrusive as he quitely offers prayers of thanks to the Lady, springs in to action at the sight of the goblins rather slowly it would appear.

Okay. Still need to know, as much as I can from where I am, how far the fortress is, goblins in the path and anything else about the route as well as the players answer to my question about distraction/cover. I presume neither of the gongs/goblins are visible from where we are?

hmm to confirm 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28

Elsdyn will survey the scene as much as he can while fighting. Judging numbers, position and distance to the fortress.

"While we may be able to defend better from that place, remember that the dwarfs once held that fortress and it fell before the goblin might. If thy choice is still that direction, hath anyone a means to clear a way, hide us from or confuse our opposition granting us a short respite to head there?"

note that I was under the impression we had been taking 5' steps backwards toward the narrowing of hallway, this is not the case?

edit...that had to hurt

To Sunset's suggestion Elsdyn says "Thy suggestion is sound."

However he moves forward in front of the party, but restrains himself from his natural inclination to charge and clangs the flat of his blade on the his shield shouting at the goblins in dwarven;

"Foul interlopers, thy actions make thy lives forfeit, come at me if thee dare." in hopes it will draw attacks away from the rest toward him.

He will back up with the rest but remain in the front facing the goblins. He will engage any an all comers but continue to take a 5' step back until he reaches the narrowed area.

A point of earthblood to his paldron (+1 fort save) and a point to his shield (+1 AC (22)).

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

As the webs get thicker Elsdyn glances around at his companions locations. He then takes a position where there is a fighter in the front, in the middle and at the rear I presume that the dwarf is in the front, the orc near Sunset in the middle, so I will take the back...if not he will suggest this as spiders can attack from anywhere.

He continues to scan the area, including the ceiling for signs of movement.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn takes a final glance around the room. He had hoped they would find a maintenance path, but such does not seem the case. So, he supposed Gloisil's decision was best and without another thought hurries to move to the front less they encounter something and he not be close enough to act.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Listen:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Elsdyn pauses a moment in moving down the hallway to adjust his helmet as the noise increases. He frowns a bit as he is sure his companions are getting the worst of sound. Glancing back he sees they are all still moving forward and his frown turns into a smile. It was a good group the Lady led to him.

As Koridur moves to open the door, Elsdyn bumps him with his shield to get his attention then holds his hand up in a 'wait/stop' signal.

He then positions himself to the side of the door, opposite of any hinges, back against the wall so he can also see the other doors down the hallway. He motions for the rest of the group to move to the side he is on. Once satisfied, he gives a firm nod followed by a 'ready' signal to Koridur.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn considers each direction carefully.

"The main was likely the path the goblin army followed initially. The goblin's main host would still be down that way, I believe. Without scouts, I think it would be the most dangerous to head in that direction. Likely the other ways are not unguarded and perhaps more dangerous creatures lie in wait there, but I think we are better suited to take that path than engage the main force."

Glancing at Sunset.

"The machine room would hide the sound of our movement and perhaps there are accesses to other levels there. It seems a worthy direction to pursue"

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn pauses from moving down the hallway and glances back at the group as they pause at the room. Unable to hide a smile he briefly ponders whether Sunrise would be more fitting a name to Sunset...

As they start moving again, so does Elsdyn, cautious and wary of what lies ahead, but in good spirits.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn spins around prepared for a fight at the sound of the splash, then relaxes as his eyes take in the event. He takes off his backpack and pulls out a cloak and approaches Desidera with it.

"Mi'lady, though there is little chill now, we know not where we travel and Master Gloisil begs us leave soon. Take this cloak to aid thee in drying and staying warm." He offers Desidera the simple wool cloak with a polite smile.

Then, as he too replenishes his waterskin

"Also, when I came to the camp late last night, the Goblin...Mox was limping back from somewhere. He seemed not impeded by his complication, but I thought I should mention it to thee to be safe."

Elsdyn will then take his leave from the waterhole and heads back to the selected hallway, grabing his backpack on the way. He will keep watch while the others continue their preperations.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn nods and smiles in agreement to Gloisil's suggestion and naturally positions himself at the front of the group.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn will follow Koridor's lead for bodily functions since this is a dwarven hold.

The dwarven belt gives him darkvision, 60' 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn will wake up with all the others, a little sleepy still, he will do a few stretching exercises, eat a bit and respond to others welcomes with a kind word and a smile. He will carefully examine his equipment and perform any maintenance he deems necessary then suit up for the days adventure.

Finally he will sit down crosslegged shield beside and sword across his lap and begin his 'meditations' for the day (takes roughly an hour). Observers will note as time goes on the pearly white pauldrons floating above his shoulders, which have all but faded, grow more visible with time.

I stopped posting just as you showed up. Val didnt have the character go topside until the dwarf showed up. So, Elsdyn was the seen but not heard character for a bit :)

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

"Very well then, a pleasent night to thee."

Elsdyn will find a spot near the rest to be down for the remainder of the night. Armor off, weapon and shield within easy reach.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn smiles back at the dwarf.

In dwarven.

"Greetings master dwarf, in our previous meeting I believe we did not formally greet each other. I am Squire Elsdyn Fedwick." Elsdyn offers a proper dwarven bow/handshake as would be appropriate.

"The goblin...Mox, returned as I found thy camp. He is over yonder resting." Elsdyn motions in the direction of Mox. "I believe he was scavenging food from somewhere and had a limp when he returned. I was going to ask Desidera about him when she awoke."

"Though I have not seen anything, it appears there are things about. This darkness seems unnatural, does it not? And I hear other creatures moving about. It may just be the fey that are about, but I am unsure."

"Think thee we should scout about a bit before I bed down?"

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn eyes the group one at a time and seeing they seem to not be the worst for wear he looks back over at the goblin. The limp has him a bit worried but since the goblin did not seem concerned nor did it act as if anyone had followed it he decides to just mention it to Desidera when she awakes. Better to let a full fledged healer look at things when they are rested.

Even though a bit tired, he feels it is unlikely they would not have left a guard deliberately. Therefore their bodies must need it far more than he and this would not be the first time he would go without sleep for a few days. So he positions himself at the best spot he can find to intercept any enemies that might appear and stands at the ready, his concerns upon his sleeping comrades safety rather than his own bodies signals for sleep.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Hey all, sorry about my sudden disappearance from the board, RL kind of went into a tailspin and my attention was diverted. Got things a bit more smooth now and would like to get back into the game if there are no objections?

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

At each pause of the party, Elsdyn will turn and eye the way behind him, looking for signs of being followed.

"Mogue, tis not my forte to find that which does not wish to be found, particularly in this armor. Thus it is on you I depend to alert me to a problem."

"As you are a man of the bow, I think a simple system using your bow will work well enough. I shall keep my eye on your bow, rest assured even in complete darkness I can see it fine. As long as the string is not pulled, I will know you have not found anything. A half pull, will indicate we are being followed but to do nothing. I will respond to this by sheathing my sword and stretching my right arm, making a comment aloud as to it being cramped. I will then pull the sword back out from the sheath. A full pull means the battle is to be engaged and I shall immediately move to protect you and the others, engaging as necessary."

"If this is agreeable to you, then we will let the others know the signals."

At hearing of the lights and their fey relations, he will avert his gaze from them. Though not tutored on such, any man of Brittany knows full well the stories of the fey and the dangers such encounters have for humans.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn will bring up the rear. He keeps a wary eye on the wyvern thing but otherwise leaves it be as he passes.

Perodically he will pause and listen as well as check behind to see if they were being followed (will stay within 30' of last member...has 60' darkvision with the dwarven belt).

At the mention of investigating the room, fire and traps he will double check up to 30' back the way they came.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

"Whether friend or foe, I think it wise to be cautious at this point. Goblins too are known for their tricks. I will back you up Sir Galen. If the way is safe, I agree with thy assements Gloisil and think we should not tarry too long here."

Sword and shield in hand at the ready waiting on Sir Galen's next move.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn's rather open face goes from excitement and appreciate at the initial light show, through confused and baffled then concerned as the gnome voice speaks and back again to his enthusiastic self at Gloisil recognition of the voice.

He then frowns again as he recalls his dream from a previous night here.

"All, the voice, if I understood correctly mentioned a demonic presence here. Was only a night ago that I did have a dream or perhaps vision sent by the Lady. I am afraid I have not the skill to be certain which it was. But with Gloisil's Uncles comment I think it perhaps be a sending after all."

"As I recall, the vision was deep within this stronghold. The dwarfs, ever valiant, fought many a battle against the goblins. But though many goblins would fall to a single dwarf the numbers did wear on them and with time it was obvious who the final victor would be."

"Then the vision changed and in the distance I saw a demon commanding the goblins, it would seem the goblins fearful of the dwarfs strength at arms would flee but the demon was yet more terrifying and held them steady throwing body after body of goblin against the dwarf fortification. This demon a Barghest in vision was the true enemy that needed defeated and I think what my...no our quest might be."

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

At that he pauses again then stands up and takes on a more serious demeaner. He sets his shield down and from behind he pulls out a sword, still sheathed, certainly of high quality even from a distance and holds it out in front of him.

"Uncle, that thou gave thy life that I may set foot upon this path of destiny, I shall not fail thy sacrifice."

With a smooth steady motion he pulls the sword from the sheath and holds it high point up. And in a voice filled with determination and dedication speaks.

"I shall emblazon upon my heart this destiny that thou hast made such great sacrifice. Though the trials and obstacles unknown be and mine enemies a fearsome host, know that I shall not fail thy trust placed in me. Thy courage shall be my light and thy honor the guideposts of my journey. Upon this destiny shall I carve out the fruits of thy guidance and thy spirit shall bath in the honor of my deeds. And thee the foundation of my youth, shall know no regrets and thy spirit shall rest with the valorous and they shall know thee through me. By the blessings of the Lady of the Lake and the power of the Earthblood granted me, before my comrades and thy sword. Let it be known that I, Elsdyn Fedwick, son of Count Gludoise Edwin Fedwick and Lady Esmerellda Anne Pendleton Fedwick, take up this quest and destiny with a willing heart and pledge that I shall walk this path unto its rightful and just conclusion. In the Lady’s name I so bind my oath, may her blessings guide my hand and lend insight to mine eyes.”

With that said in a surprising swift yet sure motion the sword descends and he deliberately places a cut across his palm, letting the blood spill out onto the sword. He then raises the sword point placing the bloody tip first to his forehead then to both cheeks, left then right in a smooth and continuous manner, showing no fear or concern with his actions.

Then a quick flick of the wrist sends the rest of the blood from the sword to the floor and a slow sheathing of the sword with a resounding clang as the hilt slams into place spells the apparent end to the unexpected ceremony. He puts the sword back from whence it came.

Elsdyn looks at the rest of the group and smiles, any seriousness in his look has disappeared and in its place is a smile as broad as one could expect from him, his eyes are gleaming with excitement and there is not a trace of weariness from wounds of the previous battles.

He then gets a bit of a sheepish grin and says;

“I am most embarrassed. I seem to have forgotten to bring extra rags. Does someone perhaps have a spare or two that I may wrap my hand and clean with…it wouldn’t do not to clean up proper.”

He then looks at Sunset.
“Oh a magic show, what a great way to help celebrate, please do I look forward to it.”

After cleaning up he will then sit back down at the ready with his back against the door.

"Elsdyn, we have all been summoned on this quest, and I am under the assumption that our meeting is not by chance. While we clean up our wounds and rest, I for one would like to hear whatever you would like to tell of yourself."

"I do note that your unusual quite demeanor after the battle is not the only change that has been made manifest. Your change in eye color is quite interesting. I would also like to hear about that as well, if you are willing tell us about it."

"Mine eyes have, have they." Elsdyn smiles brightly at the comment and pauses for a moment.

"A joyous ocassion it is and with them shall I start." He seems rather bubbling with the desire to talk and plows on ahead with barely a breath.

"From whence I come in the Land of the Britonians we strive not to be closer to the gods as many on these lands do, but instead we seek to follow the teachings of the Lady of the Lake. Though her name be lost to us, when the mists do touch the coast and spread out on our shores her presence is felt. Tis she who watches over the land and the king, though he has be lost from us. Though God she is not."

"It is upon rare occassion that her blessing doth touch a child of Britonia and too me was that fair blessing gifted. The mark of blue in mine eyes where others be white, a touch of the lake by her hand. To those such blessed falls the trials of the earthblood and ancient teachings like magic but not. Tis more the heart that guides than the mind and a connection with the land, but not like a druids or godly link."

"These pauldrons that float above my shoulders are such an example. They protect me from the ravishes of disease, sickness and other ills as well as granting me greater fortitude when I doth focus the blood of the land and of myself upon them. They only exists because of the strength of my heart and the power of the earthblood that flows through me and the land."

"The change to mine eyes, golden I would think, mark my passage through the trials of my youth and the blessing and acceptance of the Lady. Were I at home a celebration would be in order, but I think our survival, health and new friendship more of a celebration than I could have asked for and I thank ye all for that. Indeed, that it happened now, tis a sign that this path we trod down be one of destiny and not mere chance."

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn waits for all members to enter then closes the door behind them. He sits down and lays the weight of his back against the closed door. He adjusts his sword to ensure easy access in his position and relaxes his grip on his shield though he does not take it off.

He looks around the room at the various group members. In a voice loud enough to carry through the room across the sound of machinery.

"I apologies for my recent lack of responsiveness. It seems the last fight did have an unusual affect on me, but it seems everything is well now." Those who observed his looks before, will likely notice that his eyes once green are now gold in color, though nothing else about them has changed

"That we have a bit of time now and by battle and chance have we become comrads, I shall endevor to answer any questions thee might have about me. Please speak thee freely, I shall answer as best I can and take offense at none."

All, just thought I would let you know that Val will likely not be posting this week. His grandmother passed away and so he will be spending time with family. He probably would have posted this himself but got caught up in other things.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

"Well then, it seems all who wish too have voiced, so lets be off quickly before the howls get any nearer." He gathers up his things, checks his fighting equipment one more time then turns to Bob.

"Young halfing, if thou still has the desire to be the foremost, please lead the way, I shall endever to provide thou a quick route to safety should enemies we meet."

Elsdyn waits on Bob to set off, then will follow behind him.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn raises his head and glances down the direction the howl came from. He frowns then looks down at the sand and his frown depends. Then he shakes his head and looks back at everyone his smile re-appearing.

"It would seem our hosts have determined the urgency of our decision, and thus I vote with thee good halfling. While nice it might be if our tracks could be covered, I think even goblins would discover our path with so few choices to make. So haste it would seem is the most prudent of choices."

I am full up, your last heal topped me off and the goblins missed from that point on.

Sorry about the late posts btw, work has got me under the gun and I have even had to come in on my days off, so not much time for me lately.

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

"Sir Galen, it is not the items my comrades bear that concerns me. I think thee speaks truth in their wishes. However, the sand is all that protects them from the canibalistic nature of these foul beasts that inhabit here. Were M'lady to dig up their bodies for such things, I fear we would not be able to hide them back again and their remains would be forever lost to their families and their final peace. This is what most concerns me."

"There is another concern though, that must weigh our decision. This sand is unstable, to dig might cause yet another collapse, on us even and I fear we have little time till those creatures return with a larger force, I think getting far enough away that we cannot so easily be found should serve us much better than anything that might be unearthed here."

He turns back to Sunset.

"M'lady, it is not within the earth that we lay our friends and family who have past, but to sea. For it is only upon the ocean that they may pass through the Lady's mist that guards their final resting place."

Male Human (Britonian/Azurin) Earthblood Knight/2

Elsdyn strides over to the sand. His normally smiling face turned into a frown. He looks down at the fallen knight, then turns to Sunset.

Though there appear to be tears in his eyes he smiles at her and in an even voice;

"M'lady, I beg thee not to further unearth what resides within this sand. Though I care not for the goblin and its steed, the knights that reside here are my fallen comrades. Twas through only the grace of the Lady and the sacrifice of my knight that I stand before thee now. And though it pains me greatly, I can do nothing for them at this time to bring them a final peace. Tis only then the sand that guards their bodies until I return and give them the proper resting place they have so valiantly earned."

Spot Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Elsdyn leans forward and wipes his sword off on the nearest goblin, then carefully inspects it for damage, finally sheathing it along with a satisfied nod.

He chuckles a bit at Sunset's performance as he removes his helmet and brushes his hair away from his face as he looks around at the various faces. He smiles openly and says to Galen specifically, but the group in general.

"Thy group doth perform most admirably, twas nothing but a privalege to fight along side such staltworthy companions. I thank thee kindly for thy aid given. It would further honor me to travel a bit with thee, for the moment at least, I think our path is the same and I would gladly welcome thy company."

"As for our fallen enemies, this room could probably store them or perhaps with some effort the sand above us could provide a better burial. Though in truth I think we should not tarry long for I have dreamnt perhaps a truth, given by the Lady, and a most vile and wicked thing doth make this place its home and drive the dwarven masters down into its depths. Twould not due to encounter such a thing or its reviled associates so recent from this last battle."

He will move over to a corner in the room and fiddle with something on the wall there and a door will unexpectedly open (for those who did not know of it).

"Within here our some goods of the dwarfs that the goblins did not ransack. I think the reduction in the goblins numbers is of good payment if thee need to restock thy food supply. Do though remember that tis the dwarf's stock and be mindful of their generosity should they be encountered later. Dwarf's have been known to be rather oddly possessive about things they call their own."

Elsdyn sees a goblin starting to run.

"Oh ho, tis not the beserks and unbreakables we doth face, but merely those full of greed. Tis fear I see upon our enemy now, it is time we drove home this point to ensure our victory."

He slashes at a running goblin.

Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

And through the whole create by the loss of their comrades he strikes another goblin.

So as not to break the continuity with a single post (more than has to be done), Here's Desidera's atk roll for healing Galen. (just minus 1 if I can't get dex on the to-hit)

1d20+1

Is that for Elsdyn or did you switch targets via last minute info?

Galen, I am only keeping track of my own HPs, not really sure where everyone else is at. My character is new to the group and doesnt know, what he would call procedure, so since Desidera called for status last round I replied that I would need aid 'soon' which for my case met I was down 9, had 6 left and was taking an average of 3 a round. So I had a decent chance to survive the next round but would likely need aid before their attack the following round or I would go down. In simpler terms I thought it would give her enough time to consider her options rather than an emergency call (character has been fighting a war for several years...or at least watching given he is only 1st level, so he sort of thinks like that. ;) Had my character realized you were worse off he would have called the aid to you immediately, he just didnt know.

Elsdyn blocks one blow then a goblin leaps onto his shield pinning it as another makes a strike that draws blood all 3 of which laughing at each others antics.

Swings back (round 3, inits:15):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

He knocks the goblin off the shield and re-positions himself to prevent entry into the room.

A noticeable trickle of blood runs down his leg to mix with that of the goblins. "These be more canny than the others and their swords bite deeper. If thy call of status be an offer of aid, then I shall need it soon kind Lady."
