No, I think it's the right call at this point.

Roll20 is useful, but I often find it a pain to go logon... mainly cause I'm really lazy XD

Edit: I'm also good with south.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Finally getting into the action, Elise moves towards the shadows trying to attack Kertak "Back off!"

Longsword Attack #1: 1d20 + 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (16) + (2) + 6 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Longsword Attack #2: 1d20 + 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (7) + (3) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Sorry, don't have time to access the map at the moment. Can somebody move me into a position that makes sense?

Seeing that Ulgat had moved to intercept the goblins, Elise decided it best to put the large bugbear down, as it posed the more immediate threat. Saying a quick incantation, her sword glowed with divine strength as she struck and yelled "Let's be done with you!"

Free Action - Divine Smite and Channel Divinity (Sacred Weapon)
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 1d4 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 5 + (4) = 22
Damage, Smite: 1d8 + 3 + 3d8 ⇒ (7) + 3 + (8, 3, 2) = 23

2nd Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 1d4 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 5 + (4) = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Sacred Weapon also produces a 20' radius of light around Elise.

Moving in to aid Ulgat with sword at the ready, Elise strikes the remaining Bugbear. Calm and cool under pressure, Elise only mutters "Ugly damned things..."

Longsword attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Longsword attack, 2nd attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Sorry for the delay posting, busy weekend!

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Startled as an invisible Varis placed his hand on her shoulder, Elise made sure to control her voice. "Six, and something much uglier; understood." Glancing back at the others with a nod, Elise added "Well then, let's get at it." Drawing her sword and holding up her shield, she made her way forward after Fornitado fired off his spell.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Elise gives the signal to the others to be prepared, but to hold back until further notice upon Varis' instruction. Looking back in his direction, she nods to confirm his plan before watching him disappear for the moment.

Good luck Varis.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Approaching the skeletons cautiously, Elise moved in beside Kertak and to inspect them and determine perhaps how they died... or what they were.

Medicine: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Frowning, her facing betraying some disdain, Elise shook her head "Orcs, no mistaking it. I've seen enough dead orcs to know." Looking back towards the others, Elise sighs "There are a lot remains here; and I agree, let's not add our bones to the collection."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Taking a step back, Elise shakes her head as the skeleton responds to Fortinado "Well, that is a little cryptic... and creepy."

As Varis makes a small person joke towards Ulgat, Elise whistles and gives a look to Fortinado that says Here we go... I'm staying out of this one.

Mumbling to herself the word dweomercore a few times, Elise turns to the others "Wait, spell theft? Isn't a dweomer just another word for spell or magic? Is it possible that dweomercore is just some sort of magic... I dunno, boot camp. Might explain how Gloom here was accused of theft." Elise shrugged, it was a bit of stretch, but it was the first thing that came to her mind.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Moving towards the skeleton, Elise takes a closer look while shaking her head "This place is a living chronicle of misery." Squinting at the sign, as if focusing on it more clearly might decipher it for her, Elise finally adds "What does this say? Does anyone understand this dialect?"

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Nodding with Ulgat in agreement, Elise falls in beside the dwarf "It does seem promising. Lead the way Varis." At this point, Elise was growing a little envious of her fellow adventurers, they all seemed to be able to see better down her than she could, as she struggled see anything beyond the torch light.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Elise raises an eyebrow with a curious grin, and looks back towards Ulgat "That is true Ulgat, and in the case of these old statues one could argue that it might even be an improvement."

Heading in for a closer look, Elise crouches down to observe the statue. Glancing over her shoulder, she adds "Anyone have some idea who or what this statue is? Or is it just a titillating piece of art, no doubt sculpted by some man."

Investigation: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

"Good question, let's have a look see." Approaching the goblin corpse, Elise kneels down for a closer inspection.

Wisdom, Medicine: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

I'm guessing that is a fail given the last roll was DC 13

Standing up slowly, Elise shakes her head with a slight air of frustration "I can't really tell to be honest."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Just a heads up, I'll be out camping for a few days myself and unable to post until Saturday.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Very weird. Okay, duly noted.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Based on your last post, Elise will go in for a closer investigation.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Looking up towards the others, Elise nods somewhat apprehensively "Well, I'd have to investigate their skulls more closely to confirm my suspicions, but the head of a creature this size should be... heavier," pausing a moment, Elise tries to inject some levity into these disturbing findings with a shrug and a nervous grin "unless of course as Fornitado is right, and these things are just brainless to begin with."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Moving to the edge of the light, Elise squints at the darkness before her. "Damn it all, I can't see a thing." Pulling out a torch from her pack, she takes a moment to light it up.

With a light source, Elise makes her way over towards to corpses to investigate further.

Intelligence (Nature): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Shaking her head, Elise dismisses "Whatever these things are, they sure are ugly... and of course, dead." Giving one of the corpses a gentle nudge with her foot, she moves in for a closer look after she is satisfied they will remain dead.

Wisdom Medicine: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Scowling a little, Elise appears perplexed as she investigates further "Well, that's a little strange... their heads, I think they're hollow? These things were definitely killed by weapon blows, but did something bloody well remove their brains afterwards?" Shivering a little, Elise moves back slowly from the corpse "That is more than a little unsettling."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Sheathing her sword finally, Elise shrugs and grins "Well, that was somewhat anti-climatic. That said, I'm okay with that." Looking back towards the others, Elise adds "Well, shall we move on? The smell here is plainly awful, I'd be happy to put some distance between us and this sewer."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Curling her upper lip in mild disgust, Elise backs up from the remains of the ooze while muttering "Foul thing."

Not sheathing her sword, Elise nods at Kertak's suggestion as she stands at attention "Alright then, I'm going to stand ready... in the event that whatever the statue does brings on something even worse."

Continuing concentration on Magic Weapon, just to be safe.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Pressing the advantage, Elise continues her attack on the slime.

Maintain concentration on Magic Weapon, attack slime with advantage.

Attack Advantage: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 1 = 23
Attack Advantage: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 = 9

Extra Attack Advantage: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5

By the way, I will be without internet access until tomorrow. Bot me if necessary... though I have a feeling we've put an end to this thing.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

As Kertak moved into a safer position, Elise scowled at the creature as she moved in tandem with Kertak to take a more advantageous position. "Get behind me!" Drawing her sword forward, Elise makes a quick prayer, and her weapon begins to glow dimly.

Moving forward to take the forward position, and readying an attack action to be triggered when the ooze moves my threat area. Elise will cast Magic Weapon on her blade, which is a bonus action for cast time.

Readied Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 1 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8

Extra Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 1 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9

I have included her attack rolls in the event the ooze moves forward this round.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Kertak, can you take a 5' back and draw it out into the open? It'll be hard to get at the way it's presently situated.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Elise makes an exaggerated look of disgust as they enter the passageway. Glancing over at Kertak with a rueful grin, she adds "Of course you're right, but be that as it may, I'd rather not come back smelling of an open sewer if it can be avoided." Nodding as he explains his plan, Elise draws her sword "In the event that something is lurking in there, I'll charge in after you to help... smell or no smell."

Wow, I like the light perspective feature as I moved my token; I didn't know that Roll20 could do that.

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Drawing forward her shield and sword, Elise looks over her shoulder and nods at the others as she moves to the edge of the light. "Guess we're going to find out Ulgat. Alright, let's catch up with Varis then."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Moving about the room, Elise read the messages that she could understand that were written in Chondathan. Stopping before the southern archway, Elise crossed her arms and read the final message out loud "This way to ruins and horror." Folding her arms across her chest, Elise let out a short terse laugh "Hah! Well, rather ominous and cryptic, aren't they?"

Religion: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Making another sweep, Elise stops and crouches down in front of the tower shield with the gauntlet painted on it. Making a quick sign, Elise whispers a quick blessing "May you rest peacefully brothers, having died in protection of others." Glancing over her shoulder, Elise adds "This one is from my sect, followers of Helm. Looks like it's been here for ages though."

Nodding at Varis as he explains what he learned of the dungeon, Elise appears resolved "Well then, I guess no time like the present. When you return Varis, we'll be on our way." Looking over towards Durnan, Elise makes a short nod indicating we're ready.

Glancing back at the others, Elise smiles and adds "Last chance to back out, otherwise, down we go..." pausing a moment, Elise rolls her eyes and lets out a short terse laugh "heh, maybe not the best choice of words. Nevermind, let's have it then." Turning on her heels, Elise grabs her pack and makes her way towards the yawning portal.

As the chorus of cheers goes up from around the bar, Elise sighs somewhat reluctantly. Well, guess we're committed now. How did that happen so fast?

Glancing over at Ulgat as Varis departs momentarily, Elise shrugs with a light grin "Eh, it's a pretty good name if you ask me." Raising her mug of ale as Ulgat toasted in his native tongue, Elise motioned the mug forward at the appropriate moment "Skul."

I hope that meant 'cheers'.

Looking in Fortinado and Kertak's direction, Elise sets her mug down "So, how are you too in a fight? Something tells me they'll be a fair bit of that down there."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Glancing about the table, Elise was amazed at how quickly everyone had signed on to such a dangerous task, more so given the scene they had just witnessed. Taking a sip of her ale, she raised one brow curiously "Head into the dungeon? I mean yes, there is treasure, but just as often folks don't come back... probably more often than not actually."

Leaning back, Elise looked towards the yawning portal and then back towards the company gathered. "Then again, if there are lost folks down there in need of assistance, or the possibility of finding and thwarting the likes of Xanathar, the venture does have some merit." Tapping her finger on the table, Elise pondered what was being proposed as she looked around her:

A crotchety battle hardened dwarf
An older human man, but one of some build and a Priest of Ilmater
Two half-elves, both slight in appearance but likely of some skill.

With a shrug, Elise set her ale down and responded "Well, why not? Five adventurers in search of fortune, maybe that can be the basis of our name?" Elise shook her head, astonished at her own eagerness to partake in such a fools errand I can't believe I'm doing this...

"For those of you just arriving, I am Elise Wardyn... the pleasure is mine."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Let's do it.

Nodding more seriously, Elise took a sip of ale and responded "Yes, I have heard the name. I didn't know that Xanathar was trying to setup right underneath our feet though." Leaning back, Elise sighed and looked up "That could be a problem."

♀ Human Human Paladin [Devotion] 5 of Helm, AC 20, HP 57/57, Init +1, Saves S+3, D+1, C+4, Int +1, W+5, C+8, Spell 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 Appearance

Gesturing towards the empty chair, Elise nods and smiles warmly "Of course, have a seat. Allow me introduce Volothamp Geddarm, and I am Elise Wardyn." Flagging down a waitress, Elise raises three fingers "Three pints of ale." Turning her attention back towards Fornitado, Elise adds "I'll get the first round, you can grab the second. Master Geddarm here, he will drink on our tab this evening."

Elise grinned as Volo started name dropping, and started to lead him towards the bar when the voice from below called up. "What's this now?" Compelled to move forward and help the fallen man, Elise stepped forward before stopping and holding herself back as the Priests guided the body out; there were plenty tending to him already. She glanced over at the Moon Elf, who was carrying a symbol of some fashion on her, but one Elise didn't recognize.

DC 10 Intelligence Religion: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Glancing back towards the direction of the Priests, she narrowed her gaze on them "Priests of Selune?" It puzzled her as to why they might be the ones tending to the fallen here, but Elise wasn't about to question that now.

Shrugging nonchalantly, Elise leans against the wall and responds "Well, based on the tales told of the Undermountain, I suppose just about anything could be down there. An alabaster throne of ancient elven lore? Why not." Nodding her head knowingly at the storyteller, Elise gives him a wry, knowing glance and adds "That being said, I wouldn't be encouraging just anyone into venturing into the labyrinth in chase of such treasure," glancing over towards the yawning portal, Elise adds more seriously "not everyone who goes down there makes it back up again."

Looking back towards the Volo, Elise smiles in a kindly but weary manner, speaking in a tone she had perfected as a member of the City Watch dealing with members of the public "Master Geddarm, maybe I can buy you a drink, you know, before you go putting any more ideas in peoples heads?"

My profile for d20 is Halimath, looking forward to the game.

Just as an aside, if we have character art... can we use that to make tokens for the Roll d20 maps? I've got a great piece of art for this character that encapsulates what I had in mind, though the Paizo image here is pretty good too.

Entering the Yawning Portal with a strong degree of confidence and a wry smile, Elise quickly surmised her surroundings before heading to the bar. Placing a few coins on the bar, she nods and orders up a shot of whiskey, which she quickly proceeded to down. She had been on patrol with the City Watch, but her shift had come to an exhausting end... it had been one of those kind of days.

Slamming the shot glass down, Elise looked up at the barkeep "Alright, that's better; time for an ale." Turning around with her drink, Elise leaned back with her elbows resting on the bar to better survey the space. Her armor clanged against the wood bar top as she did so, she hadn't bothered to head home and change. Glancing over at the story teller, a crooked smile slowly curled on her face and she headed over "I could use some entertainment."

Making her way over to the storyteller, Elise grabbed a nearby chair and placed it down, accidentally making more noise than she had intended in so doing. Taking a sip from her ale, she raised it at the story teller, with a look that said don't mind me, keep going.

Glad to be aboard! It occurs to me that I have not rolled starting gold.

Character Sheet

Appearance:
Elise is lean, wiry and athletic in build. She is above average height for a human woman, but possesses little in the way of bulk or weight on her frame; instead, her physical strength derives from conditioning, stamina and inner grit.

Though she appears quite attractive and youthful, there is worldliness about her that suggests wisdom beyond her years. Her demeanor is can be described as kind, yet stern and determined when necessary.

Elise is of Illuskan descent, and has piercing blue eyes and light blond hair as a result of that heritage. She keeps her hair groomed and cut to mid length, though she keeps her hair tied back in a pony tail for practical purposes.

Personality:
Elise has an infectious and magnetic personality, though privately she is somewhat more introspective. Most people she encounters would quickly describe her as bright, buoyant and rarely without a smile or kind word for the people of Waterdeep. She is optimistic, and given to enjoying life and all it has to offer,

Keirsey Temperament Sorter: INFP

Background:
Born in Waterdeep to unknown parents, Elise was raised in an orphanage run by priests and priestesses of Helm. Ever an outgoing child, Elise was well like by her benefactors, who sought to raise her in the faith. Taking the lessons of Helm to heed, Elise saw herself in the role of protector, taking on bullies and injustices regardless of the consequences to her own well being. With age though, she learned that some instances are best served with mediating words as opposed to outright confrontation.

During adolescence, Elise showed an affinity for the divine healing. Seeing it as a sign of blessing, one older Priestess named Sister Carel took Elise under her wing in Waterdeep. Elise learned to heal both with divine grace granted through helm, and to stitch up wounds and injuries using more mundane tools of the trade. In time, Elise mastered her skills, at which point Sister Carel suggested to Elise that she was ready to leave the temple orphanage and strike out on her own.

Taking her trade to the Waterdeep, Elise joined the City Watch and raised the ranks quickly. She was known as an honest broker, and able combatant due to inherent athleticism, and a gifted healer. Whether it was injured colleagues in the City Watch or citizens at large, Elise was known to be a reliable officer to have around... and a mean card player at the table.

You have to be level 9 to take Craft Rod Elise.

Right, of course, duh... how did I forget that?

Hey Stormstrider,

Are we using wealth by level for 5th for gear? Also, what is your verdict on crafting. I was thinking of taking Craft Rods to get some more versatile combat healing.

I have this Taldan Merciful Cleric of Sarenrae that could easily be adapted for Reign of Winter. Is this the type of support character you're looking for?

She would just need to be updated for level 2 and a background story adjustment, which I can do later tonight. Been looking for a Reign of Winter game, so this would be a good fit.

I'll be out of town for a few days myself, so see you all in a little while.

Awaking from her vision as though from a bad dream, Elise jolted forward with a surprised yelp. Staying silent a moment as her companions spoke, Elise fought back the sorrow and remained in a state of shock.

My home, it's greatest defender... the last stand against the demon hordes, my god it's all gone.

Looking silently towards Zarak with a sad smile, Elise shook her head. Of course Sabrina was right, had they been there, they too might have ended up dead. Nevertheless she could understand Zarak's position, his heart was ever in the right place.

Before he mounts up, Elise finally speaks softly and lightly grabs Zarak's arm. "Hang on my friend, vengeance in this case will favor the prepared. If this shared vision is true and the worst has happened, then Kenabres is swarming with with demons," pausing with a mournful sigh, Elise shakes her head as the realization set in before she continued "we may need a plan just to get into the city."

Sorry, I forgot to mention I was out of town again yesterday. I'll post later this evening once I catch up on the posts.

Just checking in, I was away the past two days. Iomedae is fine, just need to change the Scimitar to a Longsword; my intent is to ditch it for a metamagic rod in the future anyway, so no big deal.
