Almost done with cookies! I have one more variety to bake tomorrow, then I just have to pack them up and mail them. Thankfully my sister and brother-in-law came over tonight to help decorate sugar cookies, otherwise Mom and I would have been doing that all evening. It's a lot of work, but it's delicious work. And it brings back good memories of my grandma. Christmas cookies were always her thing.

I'm glad to hear that your friend's recovering well too!

FYI, this is a VERY busy time of year for me. Both my mom and I have a lot more time on our hands than money, so we bake massive quantities of Christmas cookies as gifts for family and friends. I'm baking all day every day for the next week and a half or so. Please bot me as necessary, I'll be back to my regular schedule after Christmas!

Frowning at the cabinet, Elisani steps back and beckons to Estella. "There's something hidden in there. Can you use your spear as a lever to pry it out?" She points out the metal box where it lies trapped by the broken cabinet.

"Of course." Elisani steps over to the cabinet, silently berating herself for woolgathering at a time like this.

Oh good, a lead to follow! Because I'm pretty sure we fireballed this particular bridge. OOC I'm fine with our characters fumbling the occasional social interaction. Her boss never sends her to interview potential witnesses and/or suspects without a coworker who knows their way around a Diplomacy check, and now she doesn't have that backup.

It takes a great effort of will for Elisani to keep herself from rolling her eyes. As it is, she doesn't quite manage to suppress an exasperated sigh. "That went well." Her tone is drier than Rahadoum in summer. "Given that the one being in this building who might have the information we seek- the spellcaster- is currently escaping, I suggest we pursue."

Oh, Caleb, how I wish you were here! The silver-tongued halfling has a gift for smoothing ruffled feathers. A skill that Elisani has never been able to grasp, despite her best efforts. And if anyone here possesses such skill, they did not see fit to use it. I shall simply have to do my best with what resources I possess.

Elisani gives the Black Arrow in question a look that promises nothing good. "I would be interested to hear what you know of this mark later on, Tarphrex. In the meantime, Kaven, you have some explaining to do. It was us-" she gestures to the non-Arrows in the room- "-specifically with whom you were reluctant to share this information. Why is that?"

"Well done, everyone." Elisani watches Kaven closely, eyes narrowed. What is he up to?

Elisani offers a quick, silent prayer to Zohls as she takes a moment to size up the new enemy. Verity, show me the truth I need to defeat this evil. Normally she's not one to rely overmuch on the gods, but they need all the help they can get right now. Having seen how her new enemy moves, she dashes toward him, ready to evade his powerful blows.

It looks like the rest of the group has the warrior ogre occupied, so Elisani decides to go after the spellcaster. She takes a good hard look at her enemy, then sprints toward the ogre, ready to dodge any attempts to hit her with its longer reach.

Elisani bows her head, a brief moment of silence for the deceased Black Arrow before she enters the next room.

"Maps, but all of them are fouled. What a waste." Quality maps don't come cheap. Maybe the ogres didn't ruin all of them?

Do I need to roll another Perception check to see if there are any intact maps?

@Tarphrex: You went to Death Valley in September? You're a brave, brave person. I went in early spring and it was still uncomfortably hot. (The wildflowers were gorgeous though.)

When she feels Tarphrex' spell rush into her, Elisani sprints for the tower door, right on Estella's heels. She pauses for a split second to take in her enemy, looking for weak points. Big enough to be able to hit me before I can hit him. I'd best be careful. The detective moves forward once more, poised to dodge any attacks as she lunges at the ogre.

Just enough time for a few last minute enhancements. Elisani begins pulling flasks out of her bandolier, chugging the contents, and putting the empty flasks back. She shrinks down to the size of a halfling, and a transparent disc the size of a large shield shimmers in front of her before vanishing.

Infusion time! Shield, reduce person, and bear's endurance.

Elisani nods, looking at Jakardros. "Do you know where the leader is likely to be?"

I vote we let Jakardros take the lead, he knows where he's going.

Not sure we actually need that many spells, but sure. Let’s get this show on the road!

Elisani nods. While her blend spell enables her to remain unseen even without any sort of cover, the rest of the group has no such magic. And she has yet to master the art of making infusions that work for other people. "A sound plan. I am ready when you are."

Ugh, climbing. Elisani hates climbing. Hopefully this ladder is sturdy enough for everyone. She follows the Black Arrows up into the darkness.

If they're going to try and sneak their way through, carrying a light source will be counterproductive. Hopefully the glowing lichen will provide enough light for the humans. Elisani grabs her ioun torch out of the air and tucks it away in her bandolier, then starts after Jakardros and the others.

Elisani easily follows Jakardros up the narrow path, given her experience with rooftop chases and her mutagen. Once at the entrance, she takes a small object out of her bandolier and tosses it up in the air. A round, glowing stone begins orbiting her head, shedding light like a torch.

Yeah, those are good points. Having them where we can keep an eye on them might be better.

Same. Don't know if I trust Vale or Kaven at our backs.

Elisani nods and begins her preparations. First, alchemical allocation for her precious heroism potion. Next, tears to wine, heightened awareness, blend, and her mutagen. The half-elf's arms and legs lengthen, her body goes from slim to unnaturally thin, and her face becomes drawn and hollow.

Powered up and ready to go! 120 min of heroism, 60 min of Dex mutagen, 70 min each of tears to wine, heightened awareness, and blend. I'll save the shorter lived buffs for when we actually get to the keep.

Did Elisani have enough time to complete her mutagen?

Swinging her backpack down to the ground, Elisani begins taking out flasks of mysterious liquids and jars of alchemical powders, along with a tiny scale and a selection of beakers. Might as well get started on another dose of mutagen.

If the Arrows take at least an hour to scout, I can make more +Dex mutagen.

Elisani frowns. She told them that she knows how to be stealthy. So far, she isn't impressed with the Black Arrows. But then again, Tarphrex, Sherman, and Estella would be more vulnerable on their own than they would be with Elisani and Ceven to assist them in case of a fight. "I believe that it would be unwise to divide our forces any more than we already have."

Elisani makes eye contact with Kaven as she very deliberately sets her bedroll to one side of Estella and (after a hushed conversation in Draconic) Tarphrex' bedroll on the other. Just for good measure, she makes sure he sees her tuck her dagger under her pillow. There are times when she's glad to be plain-looking.

"I will accompany you on the scouting mission, if that is agreeable. I am experienced in the art of remaining unseen."

Which Knowledge check would give me info on giants?

"Of course. We have yet to determine who was behind the lamia's presence in Magnimar, as well as the fate of the Black Arrows." Elisani prides herself on thorough investigative work, and this investigation has only just begun.

Elisani nods grimly. "I would not suggest looking inside. The atrocities we found there... burning it down is likely the best option."

Elisani nods to Sherman and begins checking the chest over. If the rest of the house is any indication, the chest is likely to be trapped.

Elisani lets out a sigh of relief as the ogrekin meets his end. "I'm glad that you are relatively intact, Estella. My heart nearly stopped when the tendriculos ate you." She hesitates for a few moments, unsure what else to do or say. Finally the detective gives up on the daunting task of Being Social in favor of examining the newly revealed door.

If she doesn't find any traps, she'll try it to see if it's locked.

It sounds like the ogrekin will take some time to climb out. Elisani takes the opportunity to move into position to flank him with Estella.

Hmm. If the pit is 30' deep and the ogrekin is Medium, I can't reach it.

Elisani turns from where she was about to try and cut Estella free from the tendriculos, only to see a deep pit instead of an ogrekin. That must be Tarphrex' work. Clever. Unfortunately, she has no ranged weapons. All she can do is wait to see if the enemy manages to climb out.
