If those photos are what they will actually look like in hand, I'm going to have to buy a set. Too good to pass up.

That is an awesome cover.

Orc with Chainsaw? Check.

Half-Elf with Ray Gun? Check.

Amiri loses her sword to a rust monster? Check.

The only way to top this is with gnome on a jetpack.

Those are all great looking minis. Hopefully they will actually look that way in hand, considering the recent troubles with painting. The rarities also seem about right as well.

Excellent reveal this week. The "Id Stalker" fits well for Magnimar, and is something that I can use at least once in every campaign. The Gnome is ok for an uncommon- I'm sure I can use him for a more martial gnome NPC or group of them. The troll is fantastic- not only the right size, but the sculpt looks even better than the original. I can't wait to get my hands on a bunch of these guys.

As far as Huge elementals go, I see two possible options.

One is a single set with 4 huge figures, one of each type. Sort of like what was done for the huges in Reign of Winter.

The other is a set with 1 huge, 1 large and 1 medium elemental of a single type. Kind of like the dragon sets. Since you already have sculpts for the large and commons, the cost of the set should hopefully be lower. People would probably still buy that set, even with 2 repeats, because elementals are the kind of figure you can really use a lot of. Also, Shattered Star was put out long ago enough that you will probably have folks buying in who didn't get them before. Plus I recall that the secondary market for them is expensive, so there is still a market for them.

Bravo! More figures I am sure to use. Thank you Erik.

Huzzah! Thank you so much Erik. All three will have a place on my table.

I know that they aren't exactly a dungeon type creature, but a Roc is a good choice for a gargantuan monster. They show up in several APs IIRC, and are not so high of CR as to hardly ever be used.

Thank you Erik, from the bottom of my heart, for that owl. It is perfect. The other figures are great as well. The goat was unexpected, but looks decent for a goat. My only concern is the rarity; I'm not sure that common is quite right for those animals, as I don't see much cause for there to be 2+ minis of them in play. At least, not that I can think of. Uncommon would work better in my opinion.

I just wanted to say, I like the addition of animals that can serve both as potential foes, as animal companions, and as familiars. So having owls, ravens, and the like in future sets is something I recommend.

Also, anything from the summon monster spell list is a good addition as well.

A figure that has both a mounted and unmounted version in the same set?

And an awesome looking figure at that?

You've outdone yourself with this Erik.

Anguish: I'll be even less subtle. I would love to do a Gargantuan red as a case incentive.

To be even less ambiguous, I will say that there are no current plans for such a thing, and it is not the incentive miniature for any of the next three sets.

So, yeah, I want to do one and I expect that we will, but it's not likely to happen in 2014.

I'm ok with that, because I'm due to start up a new campaign at some point anyways. By the time you folks get one out, my players should actually be ready to face a Gargantuan Red.

Great reveal. Well worth the wait. Those new sculpts are simply excellent. Majestic and yet terrifying at the same time.

Time to tell my players that they are going to be visited by a Big Red Guy this Christmas. Boy are they going to be in for a surprise...

5 stars for five figures.

That Marid is simply breathtaking. The Jann looks like an interesting character, I am sure I could find a use for it.

The Black Dragon looks great. Great menacing pose.
As for the Hodag, it looks good. I'm trying to remember the CR, but I think I recall it on the lower end, which is nice. Always good to have some large but low CR foes for your PCs to fight.

Can't wait to see the Red Dragon set.

Excellent. I have the huge Red from DDM, and the later of the two large Reds, but no medium. The huge is ok (although I bit cartoonish), but I don't like my large red. Having all three using the same art-set will be great. Especially because Red Dragons make for great foes for nearly every campaign.

I will be honest that I really, really hope that Wrath of the Righteous gets delayed, because between S&S, Legends and that it will be really difficult to manage everything.

But back to topic...

All three figures are great for evil bad guys when you need them. The looks and the rarity are good for all three of them. I can definitely see uses for them all.

As for Baphomet, let me just say... Wicked.

The congrats are deserved. The NPC Codex seems like a simple product, but it is one of those items which can save a huge amount of hassle and time when a GM needs to drop in a character, quick.

Thanks for the comparisons Erik. Any word on a shipping date yet?

Also, would it be possible to have a photo taken of all the pieces from the set, in a sort of gigantic size comparison?

The magus looks great. I especially love the bro-fist action, perfect after he utterly destroys an enemy in one round (cuz that is what one of my players does regularly).

The shark is solid, and both of them together should make for fun times ahead... although maybe not for my players.

As for the wasp, that was a surprise. But a good surprise. It is something that works for random encounters, as part of a jungle/forest environment, and even potentially for summoned monsters. A good choice to round things out Erik.

Clearly, this is one of the best reveals yet. Props all around.

I think that 3 a year can work, but give them four months of separation or so. 4 sets a year seems a bit much, especially when you throw in Builder Sets and Encounter/Evolution sets. And the AP lines. And Hardbacks. And...

Remember that WizKids is a separate company. They don't make AP lines and hardback books. They just make the miniatures. So they don't take into account things like how many books Paizo makes.

If it turns out that there is no appetite for a lot of miniatures coming as fast as they are, then WizKids will slow down. But right now, they are seeing a lot of demand for miniatures, so they are ramping up accordingly. Paizo doesn't control how many miniatures sets they make at all. We just approve the actual miniatures as part of our licensing deal.

If you end up thinking that there are too many miniatures, vote with your wallets and don't buy them. But if you love the fact that you are getting this many great looking miniatures, then send a message to WizKids by buying them.

-Lisa

Thanks Lisa. I didn't realize that it was Wizkids, and not you, who decided how many sets to release, and when. My real concern is that by glutting the market, Wizkids might see a huge drop-off in sales in the near future, and cut the line as a result.

On another note, Erik is going to have to be showcasing a lot of minis each Friday if he is going to get the previews for S&S done by the time the set comes out, and the same for this set as well. Just another reason why Friday is the best day of the week.

"We'll be making a Gargantuan announcement regarding the next complete set of Pathfinder Battles miniatures at the PaizoCon Preview Banquet on Saturday night, so expect a few big surprise minis reveals here on the Paizo Blog on Sunday."

The suspense is killing me... and probably your PCs. I can't wait to see what is next. I'm excited for Skull and Shackles (besides the fact that I like the AP, the inclusion of water-themed foes is great). Here's to hoping we see a Gargantuan Greed Dragon.

A top notch preview. I like the sculpts and the rarities. Can't wait until I get my set.

Two types of ghouls is a plus, especially because the female ghoul can also double for other types of undead as well. And Erik, a big thumbs up for including that figure in both this set as well as S&S. The Festrog was unexpected, but after looking at it should fit in nicely with my undead horde.

I love the new paint scheme for the vampire.

I'm not sure sure about the Wraith, that might look better in person. As for the Spectre, well, different colors make it easier for me as a GM. And if color pattern is different enough, I can use it.

An animal/vermin set would be solid. We already have sculpts for dire rats, wolves, giant spiders, snakes and "bloodbugs." Some good additions would be boars, weasels and/or wolverines, a giant scorpion, a giant centipede, giant frog, giant crab, etc.

Hrm. So here's what we know:

• 12 Figures in all.
• 4 New Sculpts with three revealed (New Zombie and Wright at Common and the Grave Knight at Rare).
• All Undead are Medium creatures (excludes the Dullahan from SS).
• The note that the Zombie has already been repainted once implies that none of the figures in the set have ever been repainted before. (Seemingly excludes the Spectre, as it was repainted under the name Festering Spirit for last year's PaizoCon).
• Erik has also stated that all of the set's undead are formed from humans.

We know the following:

Common
1. Zombie (New)
2. Skeleton
3. Wight (New)

Rare
1. Lich
2. Mummy Lord
3. Grave Knight (New)

Which leaves three Common figures and three Rare figures that are unknown. I am going to assume that based on what we have, the third new sculpt is at the Rare variety for symmetry; this is an assumption. The theme also seems to be "iconic undead," so I don't think we're going to see many Paizo newbies.

So ... Predictions!

Common
4. Ghoul
5. Wraith
6. Skeletal Champion

4. Vampire
5. Demilich
6. Draugr (New)

Reasoning: Ghouls and Skeletal Champions are iconic monsters that everyone uses in their combats, and the Wraith model is a good stand-in for a generic incorporeal undead model. You can't have an undead set without the Vampire, the Demilich was a very nice model that has a lot of gaming history, and the Draugr is a Lovecraftian horror undead that fits well with the themes of the new Skulls and Shackles set.

I suspect that either the Wraith or Skeletal Champion (more likely) will be included as the rares, and a mummy takes its place as one of the commons. The Demilich is nice, but I think it is much more niche than the others and will not be included.

As for the Draugr, I wouldn't be shocked if that was actually in the S&S set, since when I expressed before (when he revealed Whalebone Pilk) my desire that there be more undead in the set Erik said "Stay Tuned!".

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I like that undead will be the next builder set. As always, you can never have too many.

For the next set? Tough to say. There aren't enough animals, orcs, or other similar types of creatures to do a set themed around them.

The only thing I can think up on the top of my head is a set based around Summon Monster Spells. That means all the medium elementals, plus giant spiders, wolves, dire rats, and a few new creatures which are common summons.

These really are top notch. Both are excellent figures, and making the Master of the Gales an uncommon was a wise move. As Erik pointed out, he has a lot of uses, and more than one on the board wouldn't be uncalled for.

I hope that the presence of Pilk signifies that even more undead will be present, including Brine Zombies and perhaps some female ghouls.

I like all three. The Golden Guardian and the Duppy both would be nice for set encounters and a random encounter as well, and are both suited for being rares. The tengu is excellent, and is a good choice for an uncommon in this set.

Quick question though:

"This week I'd like to show off three more monsters coming your way this July!"

Did the set get moved from August to July then?

The last two are nice for bringing in additional water based monsters. That has always been something lacking in the PPM market, and bravo to Erik for fixing that with this set.

But the Cyclops is simply fantastic. Sea Cats and Naga are nice for random encounters outside of S&S, but that Cyclops is something I can drop anywhere and terrify my players with. More like that please.

The Greater Host Devil is CR 6.

That is better than I remembered. I'm not complaining about the pieces, its just that I don't tend to think of outsiders as common, except maybe the really weak ones. Which I guess covers the Host Devils. If your next set is Wrath of the Righteous, I won't complain about common demons, trust me.

Since you are doing a medium, large and huge white in a single set, perhaps you can do a set with just wyrmling chromatics? While I would like multiple wyrmlings of each color, for cost and convenience purposes 1 of each in a pack would probably work best.

Thanks Erik, I appreciate it.

Oh, how big is this huge white dragon compared to the "Huge Black Dragon" from the original release? I ask because I had found the size disappointing for the Black Dragon.

The only thing that could make the White Dragon set better would be an egg or two... or maybe a clutch.

I like the half-lings and the bug, but am puzzled somewhat by the inclusion of the vine choker. Not a common foe in the AP, and not really a common foe to throw down as a GM. I just don't see it as a good choice for a common, honestly.

The mahaha is an interesting monster idea. More of a fey than a demon, I would think. But there are ice demons, so I guess you could go that route.

In retrospect, I was wrong. That would be more along the lines of a Mako shark than a Great White. Still, an awesome shark.

Actually, I think the coloration of the shark is much closer to a Great White. Now, being only large, it is a bit of a baby Great White, but Mako Sharks have a much narrower and pointed nose, as well as having a bluer coloration on the top.

-Lisa

Now that I've thoroughly investigated pictures of both species, I bow to Lisa's superior knowledge of Marine Biology. The shape and coloration does match a Great White better, although a baby one as you pointed out. I can't recall, but would a full size Great White count as huge?

In retrospect, I was wrong. That would be more along the lines of a Mako shark than a Great White. Still, an awesome shark.

"though not as large as another shark we'll show off in future weeks"

Are you referring to the Hammerhead? Or is this a hint that some huge minis might be included in the set, because I didn't believe this to be the case. Either way...

Excellent!

The great white looks... well, great!

The weresharks aren't bad either. Not sure about one being a common (how many wereshark crews are there, really?) though.

We have other ideas about how to deal with Huge minis. You'll learn about one such idea very soon.

Let me guess... Huge White Dragon?

"Very closely. We've got a non-AP-specific set coming up some time in the future, but this one isn't it. Every creature in this set is taken from the AP or its support products."

Do you mean we might see something from the Isles of the Shackles Campaign Setting?

Given the minis available Erik, I think that an Undead Army "Builder" set is your best option. There are enough out there to provide a pretty fair collection for any tomb or crypt. Or to serve as the fodder for a necromancer. Or to...

I have to say, that large water elemental is really top notch. Not to say that the medium elemental is bad, but there is something about that large which I really like. Maybe its the sharp lines, they provide a contrast missing for many elemental minis.

That is a great looking mini, if you can call something that big a mini...

I just wish you could buy it without buying the full case...

Wisdom would guess that the incentive piece will be a Garg. Green, since we have already seen in PPM a Red, Black, White & Blue in Garg or Colossal size. Just saying!

That is what I hope, but I suspect that Erik wants to have a gargantuan mini which is unique to Pathfinder and Shattered Star in particular. Personally, given the unique nature of a Gargantuan mini, I think that having it be one that would be usable across many different campaigns would be superior.
