Male Human Scholar 3
I'm checking in to see who is still around. I hope everything is going well and we get to see this idea come to fruition.

It sounds like Schattenwald will be the best place for Ahsylreth and Royce. Xerxes could have saved me in one of the forests and I could have met Maena (or even have tried to treat her affliction)in one of the smaller villages in the area.

My eventual goal will be the witch that froze my home village, but I'd be happy to help with the taking down of any of them to start, or even others in their service.

As some of our group may not get along well in a city (unless they have very good disguises), I think a remote area might work best. I really don't think our group's first target should be too terrifying, at least compared to others.

Gah! A witch! Burn it! *the old man nearly has a heart attack* The avatar is cool, though.

This is the good doctor checking in. How is everyone? I see I'm going to be surrounded by a bunch of creepy children to protect. I wonder if Xerxes, being a terrifying fey cat, would have protected an old man like me at some point while I looked for those willing to fight the witches and their monsters? I suppose I couldn't be too scared of a creature that would do so, even if the only reason he doesn't eat me is because there's not enough meat on my bones. Edit: I think I would have come across Marianne and her group, perhaps providing knowledge-gathering support to help them fight against the witches or other monsters in their service. Please note this old man could have easily needed saving many times, as he's not the best survival expert, especially when he was on his own.
I'm happy I made it. I wonder how I would have met and come to understand such strange creatures. Does anyone have suggestions? The human heroes I'd have been actively seeking, and I suppose I would have had an easier time accepting Emmeline or Royce earlier on because of having lost a child. I still might be paranoid about the fey or Maena's curse if I don't know them well before our starting point.
Any thoughts on what people see as required for the party or anyone have a favorite submission so far? I know Monkeygod is already in and has cast his vote. I like Emmeline and Arwyne because of their zany antics, Neils because he'd be able to pull off some cool stuff with a little support, and maybe the lady Spidre because she seems really creepy or one of our woodsmen because they really do seem to fit. Royce(?) is cool too, and having a kid around means that other characters might become over protective and act differently. I feel Johan would get along well with me story-wise as well. Wow. I'm having trouble picking through all these submissions and I'm not even GM. x.x;
It seems almost every thread I'm following blew up last night. I feel that everyone being gestalt takes away a little from necessary teamwork, but I'm also okay with gestalting. I'm not sure what other class would be good for a non-magic/non-combat support character, though. Any ideas? Also, per Wynnie the Gnome's suggestion: Tale Feat: Storyteller:(GM controlled) Things are always more interesting when the old man tells the stories. Though beyond his control, things seem to work out more often when he is around. Enemies and allies both die more dramatically or survive hits that they normally wouldn't, as long as it makes for a better story. Common NPCs are also more likely to have heard of the party's exploits, making them either more or less likely to help based on their allegiances. Edit: Now that I think about it, I'd probably go with a bard archetype, especially if I could switch out spells for rogue talents or something similar.
I'd have to read it, but I'm guessing overreacting. I'm playing the only evil character in Echoes of Eternity and there's no problems yet. Just a little healthy debate. I thought the Thoon sounded amazing. Has he already tried to mind blast the party or reduce someone to the "Thoon is thoon" mentality? Edit: I'll be able to post at least once a day, but I have a variable schedule, so it may be at different times.
I already have a Miskatonic University student I worked on for another game, but its moving along very slowly atm. What kind of setting were you thinking, RVT? Modern? Custom? Classic Arkham? (Do you think Batman and his villains are a nod to Lovecraftian lore?) I haven't read a lot of the mythos, unfortunately.
I am a doctor, able to bring dying people back from the brink and reattach body parts with my handy medical kit. Who needs magical healing to do such things? I think RVT already said spell casting was going to be difficult/dangerous, so I'm a little afraid it might explode a limb you are trying to reattach. I'm not really paranoid about this, but I can see him being so. For some reason I really like the idea of a paranoid old man. Edit: I really like the spell save rules you posted, Emmeline. That would be cool in a game like this.
Well, if you go with heavy crossbow, you could also have one of you shoot and the other reload every round. @Xerxes - In the world we are occupying, would you not be suspicious of a talking not-yet-existent fey centaur cat who... Will Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 tries to first scare and then charm an old man?
Why is the monk required to be lawful when any monk in an adventuring group would be against the norm of the lawful, monastic monk? I've always felt they should be along the neutral axis, but I'm not really sure how RVT feels about the odd multiclass and alignment. You could also go Fighter(Lore Warden) to get a bonus to your CMB and skills if Barbarian or Monk are restricted, though I'm not sure it would fit your concept. Edit: The Brawler from the ACG playtest is a fun one, too.
@Emmeline - it depends on what you're going for. If you want to focus entirely on your ability to grapple (and we gain a bunch of levels through the adventure), you might be best off going Tetori 4 then Brutal Pugilist 5, then back to Tetori for the rest. You could also look into Improved Natural Attack (apparently both your unarmed attack and bite qualify for the feat)
Having access to magic and being a focused blaster caster are two different things. I haven't seen someone focused purely on taking out multiple enemies or overcoming SR and AC with ranged magic attacks. So far, I see a warrior that enhances his physical abilities with magic and a couple of fey with a few magical abilities. Of course, I could be entirely mistaken about the builds, as I don't use casters much.
@Monkey - I think blaster / aoe caster is the role that no one has tried to fill because we're not sure entirely how differently magic will work or if it is intended mostly for villains. You could rain death on enemies from the skies if you get wings, but the fey dust might help any bruisers on the team.

You'd be surprised at how many scared old man avatars there are to select from. Faerie Beast Xerxes wrote: @Doctor Rogers: Know also that I can dispatch you with but a flick of my claw, human. I vote that Xerxes be team leader.
