Hmm's High Tier Option

For high tier, I have Djakar of the Dirindi News Network! Djakar is an intrepid journalist with an interest in researching all the important news. Mechanically, she's an Envoy with the Icon Theme.

Djakar is Level 4, and I will be leveling her shortly. I have an extensive botting spoiler for this character.

"This is Djakar live on the scene for DNN. What a fascinating night and so many stellar performances! We want to congratulate Sonic Tumult, but also honor all the amazing bands that we saw tonight. Weren't they wonderful?"

Djakar pauses for the audience reaction, and then continues.

"Unfortunately, the pursuit of fame and glory overcomes everything else. What happened to Lita Starr? When did revenge become more important than music? To learn more, stay tuned in for our multi-part miniseries, Imploding Starr!"

Djakar runs forward, flailing her arms, still worried that she might lose track of this story.

"Out of my way!"

Acrobatics + 1 aid: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 2 = 28

Djakar channels her inner papparazi as she weaves through the crowd. "Let NOTHING come between a determined reporter and her story!"

"Time to heal Ik, Jek!" Djakar yells, "Ik, stay in the fight and get Orgo!"

10 Stamina back to Ikmanji

Djakar is still too far away to give Ik an Inspiring Boost, so she runs forward until she is in range. She is huffing and puffing with the effort of keeping up with the swift Bear and Ikmanji.

"Gentle Sentients... Aaagh... This is Dja...kar... from.. D...N...N..."

Why did I eat so many snacks in the Green Room earlier?

Deciding that Ik could use more help, Djakar moves closer and redirects her Get 'em to Orgo.

Next turn I will be in range for that Inspiring Boost.

"Get 'em!"

Then to Omo she says, "Lita does not value anyone but herself. Don't die for her."

"Hang in there, I-apvii! You've got this! Get Omu!"

Djakar gives 10 stamina to I-apvii, and applies another Get 'em!

"Get 'em!"

"Stay tuned to DNN for our continuing coverage of this evolving story, and for our upcoming series: 'When a Star Implodes: The Lita Starr Story!'"

"Gentle Sentients, this Djakar, live on the scene for DNN." She addresses the crowd. "Two different groups stand accused at this moment. One is Lita Starr, a musician known for being part of so many different musical groups in the last decade that she's gathered a reputation for being the epitome of a Diva: tempermental, jealous, and hard to work with. The other group are we Starfinders, the hosts of this gathering, and the very people who have been trying to solve the case of the poisoned cupcakes."

Djakar nods to Lita. "Lita claims that we are out to murder her, and she's been backed up in this claim by people in her employ, whose very livelihoods depend on her. We claim that she herself is the poisoner, but unlike Lita, we're not relying on hearsay alone. No... We have evidence."

Djakar begins to fill in the full story, leaving no detail out. She presents the glitter, the footage of Karalie from the bakery, the testimony of Wonder. "Did you see this glowing, wonderful fan in her glorious cosplay? Lita found her, let her in to the backstage area, and asked her to deliver the cupcakes. Can you imagine how LOW you need to be use another artist's fan to plant cupcakes full of POISON?"

Then Djakar turns to Research Rat, and signals him.

"But this is not ALL. We also have footage of Lita's own confession filmed minutes ago by my assistant, Research Rat. Play the clip."

"If I were you, Lita, I would want it as public as possible," Djakar says, as she moves to place herself between Research Rat and the bear thugs. "Just think of all the free publicity! The chance to star again in the public spotlight!"

"Shall we return the main stage, and make this whole show about you? Shall we take this to your fans, Lita?"

"Research Rat, you are streaming this to the main stage, correct? Excellent." Djakar's voice is cutting. "How many minions will you sacrifice on the altar of your vanity, Lita? Karalie has certainly been involved, though I have no idea why a talented manager like her is throwing away her future for a wretched has-been like like yourself."

Djakar turns back to the camera. "Gentle Sentients! It's time for you pass judgment on this murderous and deceitful judge. Radat, what does she win?"

"Get 'em!" Djakar shouts.

"Get 'em!" Djakar shouts. Unfortunately, the flashing lights from the selfies mess with her shot.

"This is Djakar live on the scene for DNN, where we are battling an electricity elemental. It's been a shocking fight, I tell you!" Then she turns to the elemental and shouts, "Get them!"

"Get 'em!"

Djakar moves forward 30 feet and yells, "Get 'em!"

"Hey, Karalie, can I help you with that?" asks Djakar, looking to delay the Verthani.

(Telepathically) She would not want to miss this show. She has a front row seat!

"Wonder," Djakar offers her hand to the android, "are you sure no one asked you to do it? Because I have something to tell you. Someone tried to poison Tsuchi-ko today. They injected poison into the cupcakes you delivered to Tsuchi-ko's room." Before Wonder can scream, Djakar hastens to reassure her. "The good news is that Tsuchi-ko did not herself get hurt, and her assistant got medical help in time."

"But that person who used your cupcakes to hurt the best musician in the Pact Worlds is still out there, and could try again. We need your help, Wonder. Tsuchi-ko needs your help too." Djakar coaxes. "Whom did you talk to about your cupcakes, Wonder?"

Before this Moment

Daunted by the amount of footage from the Cocoa Planet bakery, Djakar mutters to herself, "I'm not taking fifty minutes to go through this right now... We're on a deadline!"

So Djakar does what any good DNN reporter does when working on a deadline. She sets up a facial recognition algorithm, and feeds in images of all the people she's met backstage. Judges, Hosts, Bands, Crew, and even Wonder. "One of them should come up as a match!"

Now

She was so busy working on this project that she tuned out some of the conversation with Wonder until Jek makes his outrageous offer.

She pings him, telepathically. You do realize that now I'm going to be obligated to see to it that Tsuchi-ko has tea and cupcakes with this fan? We've raised the kid's expectations now.

She turns back to Wonder. "Hey Wonder, let's exchange comm signals so that you can find us during the next intermission, okay? Oh... and I have a couple questions for you, if you don't mind."

Djakar keeps her voice gentle. She uses the calm, soft voice that she takes when interviewing children or vulnerable folk that she doesn't want to spook.

Diplomacy, Take Ten: 10 + 12 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + 12 + (5) = 27

"My first question is... do you know where your missing hair ribbon is?" Djakar smiles. "Or where you might have dropped it? I can ask crew to keep an eye out for it for you."

Djakar waits patiently for Wonder's answer, and then asks, "Did you deliver anything to Tsuchi-ko’s dressing room?"

If Wonder says, no, Djakar asks her if she is sure about that. If she says yes, Djakar asks, "What and when? Who had you do it?"

Djakar will ask around with the other bands to see if any one know of anybody who was especially jealous of Strawberry Machine Cake. Was there an award ceremony where another ban was expected to win, and SMC took the prize? Were there any shared bandmates that transferred from one band to another? Who had a history with Tsuchi-ko?

"Anything you can share, no matter how small, would be appreciated."

She also calls Cocoa Planet, trying to get information on who placed the cupcake order. "It was so pretty, and Tsuchi-ko would like to thank both the bakers and the person who sent the gift. Can you tell me anything about who ordered it?"

Djakar turns to Uku and Research Rat and asks, "Can you project some good images of Ruby-17, the Planar training facility, and All Hands Next Door? Research Rat has the footage, if you'll bring it up behind me."

"Who's having fun here at the Ruby Theater tonight?" Djakar shouts into her microphone as she comes on stage. As the crowd roars back, she says, "Wonderful, isn't it? But who knows why we are all here? Who knows why the Ruby theater is named the Ruby theater?"

Djakar pauses a moment, and says, "This place was not always a theater. Tonight I want to thank two individuals who inspired us to create art and joy in this space. The first is Bargai, whose organization, All Hands, has become the beating heart of the Sparks community! Once planned solely as a Deaf Community Center, All Hands now provides meals and job training to the entire community! When she met us to discuss this property, Bargai asked the Starfinder Society to bring a business here that can offer jobs and a showcase for the technical expertise in Sparks. If you can, donate to All Hands! Help them keep spreading the light and love they do everyday!"

Djakar pauses for the applause as the screen behind her shows the faces of Sparks.

"Even more importantly, if you have jobs that need creative techs, the folks of Sparks would love to work with you. Give them your commissions and your trust!"

Djakar turns, and red sparkles go up around her. "And now for the other individual I would like to thank tonight, the original resident artist of the Ruby Theater, Ruby-17!" Behind Djakar, the image of Ruby-17 goes up. "Ruby-17 was the artist who created the original space that you are in today. She wanted to design a planar training facility where Starfinders could learn about the planes before traveling there. Unfortunately, she was betrayed by her boss, a Starfinder who had gone bad named Historia-Prime. He stole her body and claimed her work, and then stuffed her mind into this very facility, locking the doors behind him."

Djakar pauses for the boos. "Yeah, every organization can have its problem personnel. And Prime was someone that the Society went to great effort to defeat once they discovered how nefarious he really was.

"The Starfinders you see here today, Jek, I-Apvii, Triage and Ikmanji, were part of the group that rescued Ruby, and set her free to travel as an artist once again." Djakar pauses for the images to flash by. "But let's take a moment to admire Ruby's artistic renditions of several planes." Djakar talks about Droskar's workshop, the Abacus Cafe, and ends with a vision of Nirvana and Glissando's Grove. As the last image fades, holographic butterflies continue to dance around Djakar as she calls out, "Ruby-17, we thank you for your art!"

As the crowd looks like it's in danger of crashing the stage, Djakar signals to the band to play with her and then comes forward, improvising a rap during a musical interlude in Mecha-Crash's song.

Djakar moves forward with each verse, encouraging the crowd to back off away from the band. Then she gestures to the band and starts clapping to get the whole crowd clapping with her as they start up their drums once again.

"This Djakar, live on the scene for DNN at the Star Sugar Superstar contest!" Djakar enthuses. "There was a surprising incident today when Host Radat was slimed while introducing the band, Monster Generation, who took the slime in stride and gave us all a splashy entrance!"

Djakar pauses for the scene replay of the lead singers sliding into their entrance. "This is a band that is simply oozing with charm!"

If you'll allow Djakar to aid with Computers

Djakar works on the programming to release the slime at just the right time.

"After all, our host expects pranks! It would not do to disappoint him!"

I'm willing to spring up as an alternate host, but we should check our contract for this person. Offending Zo! Entertainment Enterprises could be catastrophic.

Then Djakar turns to Research Rat. "Tell me you got that whole exchange with Radat on film."

"I just think you're getting hairier!" Djakar chimes in.

"This is not the place for this!"

Djakar looks at the caterer and the backstage crew person. "We're all here to have the best concert ever, right? So tell me now what is going on, so we can get this sorted and get back to supporting the concert, as we are ALL here to do."

Does Inspiring Boost work on NPC allies?

"Behold the Starfinders have arrived!"

"Help is something we have been deprived,"
"Plead for your aid with the e-ticketing system,"
"Without it the fans will..."

Djakar beams and rewrites the last line. "The fans need us to assist them!"

Then she pulls out her toolkit. "I used to do tech jobs back in college before getting the gig with DNN. We'll get this up in no time!"

Djakar thinks about where DNN purchases their makeup for the news staff.

Djakar keep three eyes out for suspicious characters.

"My colleagues have all asked great questions, so I'll ask two more," says Djakar. "Do you have any enemies amongst your rival performers? Or perhaps any particularly obsessed fans?"

Before

"I am indeed that Djakar!" Djakar hands Uku a holographic card. "We're always looking for new correspondents. Contact me tomorrow about a screen test, or do you have a vid log already that I can watch?"

Afterwards

"Oh, we can be the absolute soul of discretion!" Djakar reassures Vedla. How sincere this statement is, I am not certain that even Djakar knows herself.

"Research Rat, I need a clipboard to look official..." After ysoki scrambles to get Djakar her equipment, she emits a stage whistle.

"LISTEN UP! I need all band leaders to meet me over by the stage. The sooner we get this schedule finalized, the sooner you all get to go back to snacks, makeup and practice for your sessions. Ready? If we get this done quickly, there might even be time for interviews with DNN. Your band could be leading news on our network!"

"Let's finish searching backstage!" Djakar says.

Djakar says, "We'll be happy to complete your commission if you help us with something. We heard from a fan, Wonder, who wanted us to give you a beautiful doll she made as a gift for you. Can we play you her video, and present you with the doll?"

Djakar looks to the others. "I would prefer that we purchase them, though a scene of us making them would provide excellent video footage."

Either way, she'll aid.

"Hello, Tsuchi-ko and Faleen! What's wrong? Is there anything we can do to help?" Although the doll commission is foremost in Djakar's mind, she wants to know what the group is dealing with, first. "I'm Djakar, and we're the Starfinders who've been tasked to help out backstage."

Djakar nods her assent, and then says out loud, "Let's do this!"

"Wonder, I'm Djakar of the Dirindi News Network. We'll put your message on DNN, and everyone will see it. Believe me that stars notice their most dedicated and creative fans. I certainly do." She waves Research Rat over. "We're going to get your lighting just right, and then we're going to film your message, okay?"

Once Wonder has calmed down and fixed her make-up, Djakar starts filming again. "This is Djakar, live on the scene for DNN. We've met a fan named Wonder with the most amazing cosplay and absolutely fantastically crafted Tsuchi-ko doll. We're going to be delivering the doll to Tsuchi-ko, then escorting Wonder out so that she can snag a seat at this amazing concert."

"Wonder, what would you like to say about your outfit, the doll, and the message you have for Tsuchi-ko today?"

Djakar studies the newcomers with the eye of a journalist. Is there a story here?

Djakar sighs.

"Nope, nope. More curls! And two stars over the two 'i's in Liita!"

Djakar begins with the softball questions, knowing that it is important to warm celebrities up before asking the ones that might upset them. Once they've committed to the interview, then it becomes easier to grill them.

"This is Djakar, live on the scene for DNN with celebrity judge, Lita Starr!" Djakar smiles and puts a microphone up to Lita's face. "Lita, would you have a few words for your many fans? How does it feel to be judging this event, and working with Zo!s Entertainment network?"

Then Djakar takes the camera and films the room. "Lita has asked the Starfinders to write her autographs for her. Being a Celebrity has its perks, doesn't it?"

Djakar looks at the pen she's been handed, and hands it off immediately to Research Rat.

"Hello Liraeus and Berish!" Djakar shakes hands. "This reminds me of the set-up at DNN! Here, let me help you with that camera placement!"

Profession Journalist: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

She also glances over at Berish. Is there anything obviously wrong with the android?

Would Sense Motive be appropriate here?

"Excellent! Thank you, PKtesh!" Djakar looks over at the rainbow colored vesk. "And thank you as well! What's your name? I'm Djakar."

For once, Djakar does not mention the Dirindi News Network, figuring that will get PKtesh's ire up.

Then Djakar points up at the catwalks. "Shall we head that way first, since Triage expressed interest in lights and sound?" She grins at Research Rat. "It might give us a good view of the whole complex!"

"I have not met you before," Djakar says to Bargai. "May I interview you later, after the show?"

Then she follows the rest of the Starfinders as she heads down the alley.

OUTSIDE ZIGGY's OFFICE

"Hello everyone, it's Djakar from the Dirindi News Network, and I'm currently embedded with the Starfinder Society! Today, we're going to joining in a mission involving all the things the Dirindi News Network loves best: music, celebrities and community!"

AT THE MISSION BRIEFING

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 12 + (3) = 27

Djakar listens silently to the mission briefing, until Celita mentions the judges. Then, Djakar says, "Here's what my colleague, Research Rat, and I have dug up on the judges and our host!"

Research Rat sighs and enables a holo projector while Djakar talks. The first image up is of Radat Sendu.

"Our host, Radat Sendu, is an elebrian jiang-shi vampire. He’s famous for hosting variety shows and pulling cruel and dangerous 'pranks' on performers, a tendency that is popular with Eoxian audiences."

"We have so much gossip on our next judge!" An image of Lita Starr appears next. The Diva looks pouty in the official DNN footage, and sticks her toungue out when she spots the camera. "Some sources allege that the reason Lita Starr's worked with so many bands is that her diva tendencies drove them to walk away."

"And now for our favorite SMC band member!" Djakar enthuses. "It's rumored Tsuchi-ko has a vast stuffed animal collection and is a combat-trained mech pilot. We here at DNN believe she can do anything she sets her mind to!"

The last picture shows a member of the Abysshead band bashing an ysoki cameraman that could be one of Research Rat's many cousins. "Finally, stories from Apostae recently reached Absalom Station about Abysshead attempting to summon a demon during one of their shows." Djakar smiles. "Is it true? Will the Starfinders be walking into certain doom and occult shenanigans? Well, if it happens here, you know that I'll be reporting it for all of you!"

When she's done reporting her segment, she returns to greet the party. "I'm back, everyone! Let's do this concert!"
