Cora attempts to soothe their guest. "Of course, it would be difficult to judge the safety of a company like this before coming here, so you can't be blamed for that. I had not heard of them either - I'm glad Lightfoot here has his ear to the ground. If you don't mind, one of us could call them to find out if they accept cancellations with a refund."

She claps her front paws together. "Maybe there's another way? The Starfinder Society has some ships; perhaps we could borrow one for a short time to fly out and take a quick suit-protected space walk looking down on the station. Would something like that do the job? We'd have to get permission first, of course."

I'm not sure if this works, just throwing out an idea.

I suspected as much. It comes back to the credits. Cora thinks about the credits piled up on her credstick, and whispers to Lightfoot, "Thanks. I'll transfer some creds to you later."

She watches the drunk stranger a little scornfully to see if he'll be satisfied enough to leave them alone, and then leans conspiratorially over to DV8. "Don't worry, we'll take care of it. Try to put this fellow out of your mind and enjoy yourself here."

I can contribute a portion of the payoff.

Shucks, I haven't learned Token Spell, and it would be perfect here. Guess I know which 0-level spell I'll be picking up next level...

Cora keeps her mouth shut, since she can't handle fancy words the way Rozzicheep does, or convincing likes like Soryn. Instead she watches the human carefully, to judge whether he is genuinely upset or if he is acting up in an effort to extract credits from them. I knew an ysoki on Absalom Station who used to love using that tactic on tourists, she sighs internally.

If the man lets them walk away, she will stick to DV8.

Mysticism: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Cora welcomes a few of the rubberneckers to come and take a seat and listen properly. "You know, the walls of this hall have been enchanted to provide better acoustics for a musical performance such as this one." One of the stagehands seems skeptical and asks a technical question about her claim, and Cora finds herself tongue-tied. Maybe she should have checked details of the venue before she started speaking.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Cora extricates herself from the conversation, embarrassed at her gaffe, and notices an android lingering near the door, as if they might flee any second but would like to come in and join the others. I don't know what kind of music DV8 is planning, but maybe an android would have a better appreciation for it? With this thought in mind, she goes to greet the android and encourage them to come in. "Please, I'm sure our guest will be able to perform its best with a good audience. You can stay for a little bit, can't you?" The android shyly agrees and takes a seat at the back.

Cora looks around for another vict- er, audience member who she can make feel at home and bolster DV8's confidence. However, the others seem to have this in hand and she can't find anyone else to talk to. She takes her own seat and prepares to listen.

Cora smiles. "I have never been to the Hamisfore Theatorium. This should be an interesting trip for me as well."

I support a trip to the theatre.

"Those sound like things we can manage! I'm glad you did some research in advance. It's good to know what you want." Cora claps her paws together cheerfully. "Shall we appoint someone in charge of taking pictures along the way? Along with the 'external memory products', that'll be nice to show your family and friends back home."

Cora steps carefully across the room, being careful not to do anything that could be construed as 'making a mess', and sits primly on the edge of the couch. She chimes in, "And my name is Cora Jex. You can call me Cora. Do you have anything of particular interest you'd like to see while you're here on Absalom Station?"

Cora is far and away the best at cooking, and also quite good at Mysticism, Perception, and Sense Motive. She is decent at Medicine and Survival, has a smattering of brainy skills like Life Science and Culture, but is frankly terrible at Athletics, Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate. She likes to keep others alive, and relies on that to endear herself to them.

Another white-furred ysoki accepts the data disc from Soryn and then examines the dossier. She says slowly, "All right, this being does not want to talk about where it's from. That should be fine; we can talk about Absalom Station instead." She looks over at Soryn, and tries to guess how a person who doesn't understand idioms would interpret a phrase like 'turn that frown upside down'. After a few moments of reflection she shakes off the thought. Deal with that when it happens, she sternly instructs herself.

"Don't worry. I will stick to DV8's side and make sure it stays healthy and whole. Ah, if only we had more time, I could prepare a meal plan sampler of Absalom Station flavors. If it's hungry, maybe I can recommend something. It, er, does eat, does it not?"

Cora smiles at Therseis. "I think the Starfinder Society will be pleased to have you." The idea They'll take just about anyone these days, anyway floats through her mind, but she leaves it unsaid. "If your people do become a protectorate, I'm sure it will be helpful to have someone like you learning more about the Pact Worlds, and able to bridge the cultural gaps." Cora hesitates briefly, then adds, "And take good care of that little guy. Maybe you can have a good talk with Less Than Three on our way back. Copaxis aren't the only ones native to this planet, now."

She spends a few moments in careful thought before composing her report.

Cora speaks quietly to her fellow Starfinders, "Assuming this journal is telling the truth, it explains a great deal. I give the copaxis credit for wanting to explore this city, but it is revealing truths that, frankly, I would find difficult to accept, if I were in their place. The past can't be changed now, but I think how they react to learning about this will say a great deal. Will their government persist in suppressing the truth, or turn to wise leadership to lead their people forward? Then there are these issues of economic disparity, and the rising sentience of new mechanical life. I don't envy them these tasks. For now we should report back to Therseis."

She turns back to the copaxi scavengers and tries to express her thanks for their help. She is about to grab one of their hands to shake it gratefully, but remembers just in time that they don't like touching people. So instead she waves her arms around excitedly and hopes they understand.

Cora lifts an eyebrow. “Oh? It appears they want money.” To the voices she calls back, “How many, er, creds? I have quite a few of those on this stick here.” Leaving her own weapon holstered, she takes out a cred stick and twirls it between two nimble fingers. “But you’ll have to let us get closer if you want some of them.”

Diplomacy, if necessary: 1d20 ⇒ 5

When they start trying to move Less Than Three out of the room, Cora sticks by its side and periodically casts Psychokinetic Hand to make small bits of rubble clatter around, 30 feet to either side. She's hoping that if anyone is not successfully distracted by Baskoro and Teisu, then at least they won't be looking directly at the being that they're trying to smuggle back to the ship.

Bluff aid?: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Cora's eyes widen when Therseis pulls out his "comm unit" companion, and then she softens a little. "I see, so your question was not a hypothetical one. This puts you in a difficult position. I hear what you're saying, but you do realize that in the Pact Worlds, androids and even sentient robotic organisms like our teammate Trusty here are recognized as independent legal entities. They are people, not objects. It sounds to me like some of your people would have a difficult time accepting that, if it is still considered such a taboo subject."

She gives herself a shake. "You're right though, first we should finish our immediate task. To the observation tower!"

“Ahh... So you want it to be a test? We protect this one regardless, but give the copaxis a chance to prove themselves... or not. I like this idea better than keeping secrets anyway. I agree. For what it’s worth.”

Cora wrings her hands in distress as they gradually figure out the robot’s story. At Y2K’s comment she nods slowly. “That’s true. We’ve been sharing what we learn with the copaxi research team, but I’m not sure how they’ll react to this. Even Therseis.” She tentatively pats the robot on its closest limb. “Don’t worry, dear, we’ll make sure you stay safe. And get out to see the stars too, if I have anything to say about it.”

Cora listens carefully to Teisu's interpretation and taps her chin in thought. "Mind Gift... Triune... You think they're talking about Drift technology? I wonder who these people were who Toiled Without Thought. Evil masters certainly don't sound like a good thing. Therseis did say something about copaxis suffering psychological trauma when they received the message. The Message of Madness? And then some who took their own lives." She shakes her head as if it could help settle her thoughts into place. "We've found a lot of pieces of information. It feels as though we're almost there, but I'm not quite seeing the whole picture yet."

She continues to watch over the tech-y types who are hard at work.

Cora holds her breath for a few moments. "Is it dead?" she whispers, and then creeps forward to poke at the corchaaz with her rifle.

Fortitude: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12

"W-Woah woah woah!" Cora is almost dragged into the thing's pincers but manages to plant her feet and resist the pull. "What was that?!" She takes a step back away and then points her weapon a little shakily towards the creature's hard shell.

"Faria! No! Don't give up!" Cora's attention is instantly diverted from the corchaaz to her fallen friend. She briefly closes her eyes to concentrate, and then releases a pulse of glowing golden mystical energy that stirs a pleasant tingle in all of her allies as it sweeps through them.

Spending 1 RP to use healing channel from afar as a full action. Faria is the only ally with HP damage, so she's the only one who will benefit. It's a supernatural ability, so shouldn't provoke an attack of opportunity.

Restore HP: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 2) = 10

"Eek!" Hearing the sounds of fighting from the room ahead, Cora abandons caution and scampers up the stairs. She takes a few steps into the room and then pauses to catch her breath and get a good look at the creature.

Mysticism: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

It took two move actions to get inside.

Engineering: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Cora looks around blankly at the stone tunnel, but the presence of all the equipment triggers her ysoki instincts. She sniffs nervously at one of the digging machines leaning against a wall nearby. "These look old, but actually they're much more advanced than the other tech we've seen in this city. Nothing compared to Pact Worlds level tech of course, but still... It feels out of place here. We should be careful." She draws her laser rifle and peers into the darkness ahead for any sign of the reported beast.

Culture: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Cora takes a look at the book which she has finally managed to get into her paws, thanks to Faria, that prodigy of gravitational navigation. She pages through them briefly to get a sense of the contents. "Parabolas... Oh, I see! That's the name of the game. Copaxis used to play this to get better at using gravitational influence. I wonder if they had solarians among them as well. It seems complicated - we should show this to the research team! I'm sure they'll want to learn about it as well." She grins and bounces a little with excitement at the new discovery. Even better, nobody was hurt this time!

"Oooh." Cora tilts her head curiously to one side. "Does that look like magic to you? That looks like magic to me." She steps up next to Baskoro and Teisu at the side of the field.

How high up are the floating objects? If she can get within 60 feet of one of the spheres Cora would like to detect magic, and if one of the books comes within 30 feet she'll try to cast psychokinetic hand to move it towards her.

Cora feels a little uneasy at the copaxi's words. "Message of Madness... how chilling. I've always thought of the message of the Drift as a good thing. My people have done very well by the new technology, across the galaxy. But maybe it wasn't like that for everyone. Or maybe we still don't have the whole picture yet. Either way, thank you for being open about what you know." She nods solemnly to Theresis.

"Should we check the next site? I see something that looks interesting off to the north there."

I propose going to the games arena next, since it's nearby.

Anyone who doesn't have a healing serum should take one of those four - probably also anyone who fights in melee or is level 1. I don't need one.

Cora slings her laser rifle across her back and jumps over towards Faria. "Wait, before you use the precious serums!" As the others look around the area, she holds out her hands over her ally's wounds and a gentle glow surrounds them. She smiles gently. "Good work, holding those gunmen down in the fight."

Using healing touch during the 10 minute rest to heal Faria's damage (up to 10 HP, so back to full).

Seeing her target go down, Cora switches quickly to the next sniper. She subconsciously gauges the distance between them and decides she's already close enough to aim well.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 1 = 21
Fire damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1

Another weak laser blast comes from her weapon and Cora scowls at it for a few moments. What are you, a laser pistol? She gives it a whack with her off-hand to make sure it hasn't gotten jammed somewhere.

Cora's ears still ringing from Y2K's impressive gunshot, Cora takes aim at the sniper currently threatening her teammate.

Attack red EAC: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Fire damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1

Cora moves forward while drawing her laser rifle. The undead creatures seem strangely resistant to her allies' attacks, but she attempts a shot at the nearest one anyway.

Attack vs. Green: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Fire damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8

Having poked around at everything that looks interesting in this place, Cora claps her paws together and straightens up. "Right! So we've covered the three locations that you all had previously looked into, correct? How about we head to those gardens right at the center? There should be something to learn there."

Cora trails around after the others exploring the site. “Magical vehicles, you say? How intriguing! Ooh, and a telescope! What do you see, Y2K?” She scampers over to take her own turn looking through the device, though she has to stand on a small box to reach the eyepiece.

Life science: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

“Looks like cities and... are those farms? It reminds me a little of Verces.” However looking at the upside-down city makes her feel dizzy and she has to step away for a few minutes, holding her head and squeezing her eyes shut. “Oogh, and normally I’m so good with vertigo,” she can be heard muttering.

It's good to be reminded of that from time to time, though. Especially online, where we often don't get to see the person behind the posts. :)

Mysticism: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Cora looks up from where she had been quite thoroughly engrossed in reading all the magic-related books she can reach. She carries one back over to the group, squeaking, "This is quite interesting, isn't it? Getting a first look at the magical theories of a brand new culture! Well, new to us, anyhow. But you know..." She trails off slightly and glances at the nearest copaxi. Should they talk about these things in private? But she decides that they were here to investigate alongside these people, so they should share whatever they find. She continues, "I don't think any of these books were written by people who actually practiced magic. There's nothing practical in here, it all sounds limited, as if they heard it second-hand. I'm not sure what that means, but... it's strange." She shrugs.

Shall we go back to the Transport Station next?

“Oh! There they are!” Cora squeaks, and peers at the screen almost as curiously as the creatures are doing on the other end of the connection.

Life Science: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

I didn’t know they’d have antlers, how intriguing! But she bites her tongue to stop herself from making any, most likely culturally-insensitive comment about it. She merely responds to their polite greeting, “Thank you for the welcome! We look forward to working together.” She grins broadly, thinking, This should be quite interesting indeed.

Cora’s eyes sparkle a little at the description of this important mission, and she looks a little shyly at the very tall and impressive Steward representative. She raises one paw to asks her own question. “Do they know that we’re there to evaluate them, or are we meant to just be assisting with their research?” She pauses briefly and adds, “Do they speak Common?”

By the way, as previously mentioned I will be traveling until October 12, so I might be slow to respond some days. You can bot me in combat if needed.

A small, white-furred ysoki with a laser rifle strapped prominently across her back approaches the designated meeting room. She hears a droning voice echoing down the corridor and as she turns around the corner of the corridor she tilts her head to one side and thinks aloud, “I wonder what’s keeping him. Ah well, nothing to do but wait patiently, I suppose.”

She turns to the two others already present. She blinks at the mesmerizing patterns on the tall one’s skin for a few moments, and then looks askance at the starving tamagotchis hanging from the android. “I’m Cora, pleasure to meet you, I’m sure. Shouldn’t you, er, do something about those, dear?” She jerks her nose in the android’s direction to indicate the electronic pets, unable to keep silent in the face of starvation, even if it is merely digital.

"Oh, don't worry guys. Ysoki are naturally good at this. Handling floofy animals. Or... shoes." She smooths down her own fur, then walks toward it slowly and gets down on four paws to present a less intimidating figure. She speaks calmly. "Your two friends outside asked us to take good care of you, so we will, okay?"

"Aw, don't frighten the poor dears. Remember, if they're human they can't see in the dark. Even if it's their own fault, they probably aren't having fun. Oh, unless they were playing some sort of hiding game. Do you think that's it?" She calls out to the children, "You can come ooout now!"

She looks at the camera to see if there's any sign that their words are being heard.

Cora grins warmly at Fitch’s slightly scatterbrained manner. “Kids, they’re sure a handful, aren’t they? Well, let’s go find out what’s wrong.” She shifts the strap of her rifle higher onto her shoulder and follows the others as they head out. By now she feels quite confident that their team can resolve the problem, whatever it is.

Her last shot went well, so Cora tries for another one.

Kinetic attack vs Nyizin: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 1 = 12

"We're so close! Laboni could still take it all!" Cora fires the Bosom Baby Blaster on Nyizin, hoping to knock her out of the lead.

Cora seizes the piloting controls and mutters, "All right Laboni, keep holding on tight!"
