Welcome everybody! Thank you for joining my table. This game starts on or about Monday, September 6th. When recruitment opens, I will post more instructions.

Just a note, this is my first time running a table in PbP, though I have played plenty of PbP and run plenty of tables in person and on VTT. Please be patient with my expected screw-ups adapting to running in a new format.

Nigel Aldain has had a long and turbulent history with the Pathfinder Society, largely tied to his role as the curator of the Blakros Museum. Recent events have led the Blakros family to begin to doubt Nigel's fitness for the role, and the Pathfinders have been hired as an independent consultant to investigate Nigel directly. As the tangled threads of hidden plots begin to unravel, the PCs will have to determine who is truly a friend, and who is a foe in friendly guise.

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 5-8.

I don't think this was the case before, but as of right now, my reporting of book 1 of Age of Ashes is showing me as already having received credit and pointing to book 2 as the duplicate credit. Who should I reach out to correct this?

Event code is 157693, sessions 21 and 22.

Given Paizo is not having a physical presence, I have a few questions.

1. Will the OPF be running games/having a block of tables? I know in normal years, other people were not allowed to run PFS/SFS events outside of the Paizo blocks.

2. If not, do we have a group of PFS/SFS GMs who want to coordinate and get a block of tables from GenCon? They will allow that based on their forum responses https://www.gencon.com/forums/9-event-organizers-gms/topics/16440-limited-e vent-submission-for-gen-con-indy-2021

3. Can we get tables for the specials that will be run at GenCon online? Would be pretty crappy for those of us going to GenCon if not.

4. I'm happy to run a few tables, but I need to know who to talk to about this?

If there is a forthcoming blog post or other official communication about this, let me know and I'll follow up there.

My party just killed the forge-spurned in Fires. They were 6, so I put two in there and gave them the weak adjustment. Went pretty well overall - the champion wound up by himself and almost dying, but otherwise, it wasn't too tough of a fight. They then totally bombed their Religion checks to know what was going on with the chains, so two party members took them to use. One made her save that night, but the other crit failed - initial roll was a fail, used a hero point to reroll, got a nat 1.

I'm not sure what to do to get them out of him turning into a forge-spurned. Any suggestions for an interesting quest or some other way of saving him? Player is pretty flexible - he's up for keeping or letting the character die, but I need to give him time to create a new 13th level character if he dies (we play Tuesday nights).

I debated letting him turn into a forge-spurned but keep his wits as they are intelligent, but that seems massively powerful, even if I give him a strong drawback like needing to make a will save every time someone near him dies or go into a mindless rage, attacking everyone around him.

Just noticed that it was completed with little fanfare. I don't see it available to report, but the chronicles are there in the AP page. Gives 12 XP/fame per book, consistent with previous AP sanctioning, and 30 treasure bundles.

OP team, I for one really appreciate this. Thanks for getting it out there!

We are in Cult of Cinders and they about to start exploring. The party is 6 players and there has been very little challenge in combats so far. I'd like to sub out the drakes (3 at CR6 vs 6 players) with young green dragons (2 at CR8 vs 6 players). Or would I be better off going with one dragon and one drake?

Party is Barbarian, Cleric, Champion, Alchemist, Sorcerer and Monk, all 6th level.

I'm fine with killing one or maybe two PCs if it comes to that, but I'd prefer not to slaughter the lot.

I'm running the AP at my local store and keep adding players. At this point, I have 7, with an 8th saying she will come to the next game(she's been coming regularly to our SFS games) and a 9th who has committed and cancelled a few times.

Players are 4/5 through book 1 and are about to move onto the final map.

I'm doing milestone leveling, so not tracking XP.

For combat, I'm just scaling all the encounters - doubling the number of each type of monster, etc. or doubling the minions and keeping one boss.
I think for the finale of the book, I'll double and add adv simple to the boss so it's not just a cakewalk for them.

That seems to be working for the encounters, but I'm worried about treasure and leaving them too far behind on the WBL curve. I don't know how critical that is in PF2, but there is time for me to adjust if I know the importance/how to do it. They already get some extra loot from extra monsters/NPC combatants gear, so it's mostly just the random hey, there's 5 scrolls buried here things.

Does what I'm doing make sense?

I picked up an extra ticket for a friend who is not going to be able to play. Looking for someone to give it to at the convention. I can return it if no takers by GenCon, but would rather make sure it goes to use.

If you are also interested in pre-mustering, I'd be up for that as well. Right now we are a 14 Arcanist(School Savant Teleportation) and a 14 Bard(Melee). (Tiers are 12-13 and 15-16 so 14 can go in either)

I have a Wyrmling Nightmare Dragon on one of my PFS characters from a boon. Can the familiar use spell completion items without UMD? Nightmare dragons cast off the Psychic list later in life, so I think this would give access to using wands for spells on that list without a check, but want to make sure before I start shelling out gold.

Last year I was very late submitting events, so would like to to get this done early to make sure I can get the events scheduled through the GenCon system and also have time to confirm the scenarios with Tonya. Event submission started this past Sunday.
Are there any GMs interested in running Wednesday night of GenCon? If so, please let me know what you want to run.
Event submission deadline is March 9th,so there is a little time, but anticipate the process will take a couple weeks, so want to have a proposed schedule by mid-February.

I'm thinking something like the Monster Summoning Cards that used to be available here. The way it's written now, I'm hesitant to take the spell because I don't know when I'll have the hours needed to put together the stat blocks and I'm not figuring them out at the table.

I'll put events into the GenCon system once I have a critical mass of GMs/Players, but you will need to get a $0.00 ticket through GenCon to play.

I'm looking at these:

Debating on Blessing of Fervor, but not sure what to replace. Anything else I should consider?

It seems a pretty basic thing that most people will need and so should be easily accessible - requiring that I remember it and search the forums for the rule seems crazy to me and relies on my knowledge of the existence of the rule.

If I take level 1 in Musket Master Gunslinger, getting a battered gun, and level 2 in Spellslinger Wizard(boon unlocked), which also gives me a battered gun? Having an extra so I don't need to spend the action to quick clear in combat after a misfire would be nice.

My kids (4 1/2 and 6 1/2) wanted to play, so after the beginner box, I created PFS characters for them and my wife. I'm handling most of the mechanics and otherwise letting them run their characters and animal companions. They've been loving it so far, though we don't play in more than 1-2 hour chunks.

We ran through Crypt of the Everflame after the beginner box, but I'm not sure what to do next with them. They love playing their own characters(a druid with a wolf companion and a barbarian, soon to take a level in Hunter to also get an animal companion). I might have them play the We Be Goblins mods, will ask to see if they want to.

After that, what should I run for them? I prefer to stay within the realm of PFS.

I've done some hunting around and don't see this FAQd or in any post by a Paizo Developer, so asking here.

Does Arcanist count as a spontaneous caster for the purpose of items like the Mnemonic Vestment? It's annoying and frustrating being in the position where the whole thing hinges on how the GM interprets the word known vs the language in the Arcanist Spells class feature.

Mnemonic Vestment wrote:
If the wearer is a spontaneous caster, once per day she may use a spell slot to cast a spell from a written source (such as a scroll or spellbook) as if she knew that spell. The spell must be on her spell list, the same spell level or lower than the expended spell slot, and the same type of spell (arcane or divine) as the spell slot expended.
Arcanist wrote:

Used to be 19.99 to print a poster-size 24x36 (works perfectly well for the 24x30 PFS standard). Now 29.99?!! Is this just my staples or everywhere? Fedex office is even worse at > 40 each. WTF?

I have a GM blob that has three chronicle sheets applied between July 2014 and July 2015. The July 2014 chronicle is from a level 3-7 scenario. At the time, it was not legal for a GM to reduce the level of the sheet to apply to a first level character like playing a pregen, though it became legal in August 2014 with the Season 6 guide.

Can i adjust it now to apply to the first level character with reduced gold? I'd rather just start him off at 2nd level.

I seem to recall there was a clarification on this last year some time and was hunting around, but have not found anything. There is nothing in the FAQ where I would expect something this important to be. Came up at my PFS table yesterday and I want to check on my ruling at the table. Character in question was a 5th level Paladin with a mount.

Paladin entry in CRB says to treat the mount as an animal companion, using the druid entry, which has a bite as primary and two hooves as secondary. He was treating the hoof attacks as primary based on the bestiary entry for horse which says when they are combat trained, the hoof attacks are upgraded to primary. His reading on this was that the horse then got a bite and two hooves, all as primary.

I ruled that as the horse was an animal companion, it would use the animal companion natural weapon entries and the hooves could not be upgrade to primary.

I searched and while there are several threads, I found no FAQ and no response from campaign leadership. My search-fu may be weak, so want to make sure I am not missing anything.

With session 481 - It was reported as a normal game with GM and 5 players, should have been 6 GM credits for quests.

Also, not sure if this is the right place, but the report a problem with this session link does not work with Chrome.

My evening game at Scotty's got cancelled. I can run or play. Flight getting in 12:30, so I will be available from about 2:30 on. I was planning to run #3-02 Sewer Dragons of Absalom at Scotty's - happy to run that, or I will bring Confirmation, Wounded Wisp, We Be Goblins, Crypt of the Everflame, or any other scenario if enough people are interested.

I don't think we can use the rooms at the convention center, but we should be able to grab space anywhere else as long as there is a table.

I figured the seating area right between the corner of the Sagamore and the escalators (by the Westin) would be a likely meeting place.

Sound off if you are up for playing or GMing and I'll put an event on the calendar.

I am using a rebuild boon from GenCon and wanted some clarification and/or confirmation on a few things. Thanks in advance.

1. Consumables purchased with prestige (scrolls and wands) remain the same, I keep any unused portion and cannot change the spell on the scroll, etc. However, if no part of the consumable has been used and it was paid for with gold, can I resell it for full as part of the rebuild? I have an unused wand that I would like to not purchase.

2. An item that was purchased for a reduced price because of a boon. Sold back at reduced price or full price? I think I can resell the item for full price, and the boon is still be used.

3. Item that was previously sold where I could have just upgraded it - can I correct that mistake with this rebuild? - I sold back my +1 Cloak of Resistance to buy a +2 rather than just pay the difference. I was new to PFS and did not realize this was possible. This is only 500gp, but that is a dweomer's essence.

My general view on it is that I can swap out current equipment/feats/spells/etc. for like value. If something is sold, it is gone. If I got a discount on something in the past, it is still the same item and worth what that item is worth.

I'm a relatively new GM, only run a dozen or so PFS tables. I've been playing for about 30 years, 3.P for a couple and Pathfinder for about 3 years, so I am very familiar with the system and the rules.

I'm also getting more comfortable with character improvisation, a background in theatre helps a fair bit with that.

I wanted a couple of choices to present to the players. This is a long-time group, we've been in our current homebrew campaign for 2+ years dealing with kingdom building and some pirate/ship combat. The previous one was Ptolus for 5+ years, and before that another homebrew for multiple years. some players have come and gone, but the group has been in current configuration for about 3-4 years. There are six players and some build faily well optimized characters.

The group seems to pursue a fairly balanced RP/combat play style, leaning somewhat toward the combat end. If we spend too long in a dungeon, everyone is itching to get out and catch up with our NPCs. If we go too long without something to kill, people start getting antsy. We have done many RP-only sessions, but not normally two or more consecutively.

Rise of the Runelords is out, one of the players has run most of it already for students in an after-school club(he is a teacher)

I'm leaning toward offering them a choice between Reign of Winter, Mummy's Mask or Shattered Star. I'd prefer to stick with PFS sanctioned paths as I do play PFS and getting those chronicles would be a nice bonus. I was also debating offering Wrath of the Righteous, but I worry that the mythic will be too much for me to handle.

I think, given what I've read so far (messageboards and the like), that Jade Regent might be too linear for this group. Several players have also expressed their dislike of modern settings and technology in game. That also leads me to the question on Reign of Winter - how integral to the plot is the foray into 20th century earth? Can it be easily refluffed to take place somewhere else?

tl;dr - Which path for a relatively new GM? Preferably relatively non-linear and PFS sanctioned. Doing kingdom building now and just did pirate stuff as well.

I'm considering buying a new core rulebook, mostly due to the fact that the binding on mine is coming apart. I have the PDF and use it on my tablet, but it's not the same as an actual rulebook The CRB is one (along with UE and APG) that I always bring with me whenever I play or run.

Are there plans for such a book, perhaps a leather-bound version, or just one with a library binding?

So, just want to make sure my character is legal and sorted prior to playing further. Character in question is an Aasimar Bard and uses the Hunter's Eye trait from the Andoran Faction. Received her first chronicle mid-July as a GM credit.

Should I just keep a copy of the previous version of the guide containing that trait with me when I play? I don't believe it is published in any other source and can not be replaced if I lose the old file.

Just hit 7th level in PFS, Wildblooded (Sylvan) Sorcerer with a Wolf AC. Have about 8500gp to spend and debating a couple of things. Currently has +2 Cloak of Resistance, +2 Headband of Aerial Agility (Cha) and Mnemonic Vestment in addition to a fair number of useful scrolls/wands. Spell selection is combat buffs for the wolf and party and battlefield control.

Things I am considering:

First Aid Gloves 4500gp - Ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin alive, staying alive!

Clear Spindle Ioun Stone 4000gp - get out of my mind!

+2 Int/Cha Headband of Mental Prowess 10000gp (sell the current headband) I want to know all the things!

Mithril Chain Shirt +1 for the Wolf 2400gp (currently using Mage Armor - no Light Armor Prof, so she would need Mithril to have no ACP) Fluffy doesn't like the sharp sticks.

Amulet of Mighty Fists +1 5000gp - using a wand of magic fang with UMD now.

Thoughts on this or other items I should consider?

Anyone know of a good one? I just started up a wolf shaman druid at level 9 in a home game. Leveling up to 10 was a painful process, with more than a dozen templates to modify(6 canine forms, 4 elemental, hawk, falcon and bat). I'm sure I screwed some of them up. I will write up an excel doc for it if I don't find something usable, but I'd rather not have to spend the development time.

I am asking this question for a PFS character, which is why it is here rather than in general rules questions. There have been some recent clarifications on how level-boosting effects interact with revelations and bloodline abilities here.

Spoiler:
ROBE OF ARCANE HERITAGE
Price 16,000 gp; Aura moderate necromancy; CL9th; Weight 1 lb.
These elegant, dark purple robes are usually decorated with gold stitching suggesting a particular sorcerer bloodline, though some might indicate a family tree. When a sorcerer dons a robe of arcane heritage, the stitching pulls itself apart and reweaves to match her particular sorcerer bloodline. The wearer treats her sorcerer level as 4 higher than normal for the purpose of determining what bloodline powers she can use and their effects.

This item boosts the effective level of my bloodline abilities by 4. The character in question is a Sylvan Wildblooded Fey Sorcerer. First level bloodline ability is an Animal Companion at level -3. So, my question is two-fold.

As I understand, this would effectively give me a 4 level bonus, so at 7th level, I would be treated as 11th for purposes of my bloodline ability, including animal companion. By default that would give me a companion at level 8.

How would this interact with Boon Companion? Would the feat boost my companion's level to mine as normal and then have the item apply on top of that, with the HD cap being my character level +1 as mentioned in the linked thread, or would the robe's effects override the effects of the feat?

Spoiler:
Boon Companion
Your bond with your animal companion or familiar is
unusually close.
Prerequisites: Animal companion or familiar class ability.
Benefit: The abilities of your animal companion or
familiar are calculated as though your class were four levels
higher, to a maximum bonus equal to your character level.
If you have more than one animal companion or familiar,
choose one to receive this benefit. If you lose or dismiss an
animal companion or familiar, you may apply this feat to the
replacement creature.

Played it over the weekend. Very fun scenario. Especially enjoyed our GM calling it Boned Keep all through the intro. We got through 5 rooms and ran away from the sixth initially and were out of time anyway. As I understand, the item on the chronicle sheet with no price listed is received by all characters completing that particular room? Just wanted to confirm before I added it onto my character sheet since it is very nice.
