I actually have the 1st edition, 1st printing of that particular book (which means I needed to print out the errata sheet to stick in the back). One of the benefits of discovering it on KS. Incidentally, I'll be getting the HC of the Griffons book, too. I had a Leatherwing Stalker all ready to go for one game (flight at 1st level! Yeah! Stealthy death from above! Hit and run!). But then after I talked with some of the other players and the GM I discovered a lack of support magics and stuff to deal with the copious amounts of undead we'd be facing, so I opted for a Unicorn White Necromancer instead. Once I get White Necromancy, I'm planning on multiclassing and adding levels in Kineticist.

I have accounts at both; one for part of my rewards from the PsiMinis KS, and another for most of the pdf's. I'd rather like to keep everything in one place (better overview and all that) than have to bounce back and forth. Thanks!
well, here is one interpretation of kobolds in German- not dog-like, but decidedly 'different'. The most popular German kobold is Pumuckl, and generally speaking, kobolds' appearance and depictions in German folklore and legends depends a lot on who is telling the story. In the 1st edition monster manual nothing is explicitly said about them being 'dog-like', although the image is somewhat canine. It is noted that they are hairless, and although the picture shows a scaly hide, the text doesn't mention this at all. The 2nd edition Monstrous Compendium clarifies that they have scaly hides, and describes them as smelling like damp dogs (and stagnant water), and that their speech sounds like dogs yapping, but it doesn't go so far as to describe them as 'dog-like humanoids'. The MC picture makes them look kind of like a pug, but the artist forgot that they have 'non-prehensile rat-like tails'. In Hackmaster 5e (the current edition) they are specifically called out as being canid's, and are commonly referred to as 'dog-men' (and they also warrant a 4-page entry in the Hacklopedia of Beasts) Edit: minor formatting oopsies
I actually had a Lizardman character once, back in 1st edition. We were running around B2, Keep on the Borderlands, and after our encounter with the Lizardfolk in the marsh to the south found ourselves in a moral quandary when we discovered a) that the Lizardmen were Neutral and were only aggressively defending their homes & young, and b) our actions resulted in a couple hatchlings being left orphaned. In trying to 'do the right thing' (or at least make amends for our transgressions) we adopted the lizardkids. Later on, after our characters had gotten on in years/levels and the GM wanted a re-boot, our old characters retired to our since-taken-over-and-renovated Keep, and the next generation marched forth to adventure. By that time there had been an article in Dragon Magazine about playing humanoids as PC's, so with the GM's permission I played Xamis, a Lizardman fighter who had been raised by the (former) party paladin. I seldom got to stay at the Inn, but had a lot of fun kicking butt and taking names with my trident (and usually leaving people totally perplexed with my code of honor and fairness). He was never able to become a paladin like his 'father', but he did manage to gain a knighthood... Good times :)
Don't really want to, but maybe... ... so that I could use this miniature from this Kickstarter as a double-agent in TPK's Fen of the Five-Fold Maw adventure?

I feel ya; I had a similar thing with regards to my PsiUnleashed & Expanded books that I'd already purchased via my FLGS. BUT with the UltPsi hardback, I had the chance to pass off the rather worn softcovers to other folks in my gaming group (who are/were too cheap to buy the things themselves) and replace them with a nifty, updated/upgraded hardcover for my own use, and since then I've seen more use out of them than ever before. So, in the end, it's a win for me :) Edit to add: As for pact magic, this gives me the chance to get everything in HC instead of just having PDF's, so that means we can actually break open the book at the table. Another win!

chaoseffect wrote: The cost of Herolab is ridiculous and I probably wouldn't buy it even if I wasn't poor. My question is why do you want a character generator? If the main draw is being able to have all the resources at your immediate disposal and convenience (which would be the draw for me and was why I was in love with 4E character generator program before Wizards ruined it), you can get the same effect with sites like d20pfsrd. I can't speak for the OP, but for me, the advantage of using a character generator (or character manager, as it were) such as PCGen is that it gives me an itemized list of things to do, so I don't forget about adding a favored class bonus, what level I get new feats/abilities, etc, and it scales things as I go along. And since I'm usually trying to manage things for my whole group (as GM), this is a HUGE time-saver.

I beg to differ. The World Book has been for sale for quite some time already, and the Pathfinder Rules Supplement for Dragon Kings is free. (So is The Gazetteer, but that's beside the point).
What I'd really like in a product like this is 85% meat and 15% bones. 'Meaty' things would be like different Soulknife fighting styles and techniques (unique to Soulknives)- perhaps even differentiated amongst various archetypes (Armored Blade vs. Nimble Blade vs. Gifted Blade, etc.), since what works for a Nimble might not be so good for a Gifted, and vice versa. Schools or academies (or more nefarious guilds) of or for Soulknives (primarily- I imagine there could be some overlap), and their signature moves, stances, etc. How various races (tend to) approach being a Soulknife, perhaps specific Favored Class bonuses for Soulknife depending on a given race's tendencies. Maybe even subtle ways that certain races can 'tweak' a Soulknife's normal abilities in thematic ways that represents their race's proclivities. 'Bones' would be the mechanics to support the Meat, the framework, be it Blade Skills, Feats, Archetypes, or what-have-you. It would be particularly cool if certain Blade Skills were only taught to persons from a certain school (or tradition, or race, or 'fill-in-the-blank'), much like the fencing schools of yore and dojos with their own unique styles. Granted, much of this is stuff that is just as much at home in Path of War as it is in a tome on Soulknives, but a certain amount of cross-over isn't a bad thing, imho. **as a semi-relevant side note, one of the things that my group always really loved was the modular system for Martial Arts present in the 1e Oriental Adventures hardback. It was easy enough to port over to 2e, and it really made fights much more memorable with flying snap-kicks and all the other colorful moves. Also, Style Analysis and recognition- seeing what style someone else was using and being able to choose a different style to counter it- made for some epic fights not unlike Wesley and Inigo Montoya from Princess Bride.

Which is also one of the reasons why (in most publishing branches) editors and proofreaders (actually different things) have next to nothing to do with the creation of the creative content, and focus on the editing. In most cases, the more distance they have from the subject matter, the more objective they can be in proofing and editing.
This sounds like something that could make very good use of Green Ronin's Advanced Bestiary (templates). What better way to advance your monster than by 'upgrading' it with an AB template? EDIT: I probably should have included a link to the preorder and a link to the Kickstarter.

As per the rules, both would convert to Psionic Talent. Having 5 PP's to pump up saves or resist damage isn't really that big a deal- it may sound like a lot, but it's limited to a number of times per day. The major advantage is that it's flexible and can apply to any kind of damage, but there are other races (tiefling and aasimar, for example) who have better resistances (granted, to fewer things) which they get each time, every time, all day long.Long story short, it's great at low levels, but certainly doesn't break the game :)
Forest Guardian Press wrote: And yes, I am constantly being taken to task for my naming conventions. I am firmly in the camp that feels that this hobby is a great way to expand folks' understanding of the full breadth and power of the language - there are those that feel a much simpler approach is preferable and clearer. I am sure my sales suffer from people not knowing the names, but the descriptive text always explains what the "esoteric" or "strange" name is. Personally, I find an interesting or new word the thing that reels me in, rather than turns me off. I can get behind this 110% (if not more). I have often bemoaned the subtle and steady degeneration of the English language, and how far too many things have significantly been 'dumbed down' over the years. (In the US, I blame the whole 'No Child Left Behind' lowering of the standards thing from some years back). As it is, I've seen some high school graduate's final term papers, and wondered if the kids were even actually literate. That, and how the quality of published works in general (not just in the RPG Industry- overall) has decreased; art quality and graphic design ('eye candy') takes precedence over proper proof-reading and attention to grammatical detail. It would seem that when companies look to cut costs, the proof-readers and editors are the first to get the axe.
Looks cool.

I haven't really done much of anything with Hero Points, and even though the PC's have had them on their character sheets, nobody has ever once used them. As such, I've pretty much already forgotten what they're intended to do (but I could look it up if I really needed to), since they are not likely to be an issue. @ Cap - sounds like my group, too. Something to be said about a guy who can just rip a door off it's hinges. Someone even once made the comment, "Oh yeah- we're gonna be Golarion's Avengers(tm)!"
I like Bundles, but if I'm going to go for a bundle I'm going to go for a bigger bundle. With just a few products, I'd rather just 'cherry pick' what I need at the moment and not get a % savings than pay more for some things I may end up never using. Unless the bundle is being offered up & the proceeds are going to a charity or cause that I can relate to (Such as the FDG Mega-Bundle to help support Mr. Hershey whose wife has Crohn's, for example). In that case, even if I already have 75% of the products, I'm still likely to support it 'just cuz'. Y'know, Gamers helpin' Gamers and all that good solidarity stuff. :)
captain yesterday wrote: paladins derail adventures almost as much as player vs player violence:) Interesting. I know you are speaking from your experience, but my experience has been quite the opposite with Paladin players/characters. I guess I've just been exceptionally lucky that all the players I've had took the "I'm the GOOD guy!" bit over the "I am. The LAW!" {done in my best imitation of a Sly Stallone voice} But yeah. PvP really brings things to a grinding halt.
When I showed this to my group, the first player to jump was the Sorceress, who was all, 'yes! I can use my CHA based skills to distract everyone and set 'em up for a smack-down!' Usually she stands more in the back, doing buff-type things or the occasional fire-spell and lets her bodyguard do the 'heavy lifting'. (Noble. Need I say more?) NOW, there's a way to do her 'role' even better. Can't say THANKS enough :) And despite there not being any Paladin-specific archetype or hints, our Pally already has some ideas about directing foe's attention to her to 'come and get' a smitin'. Good Things. If you haven't bought this, you need to. Now.
They'd need to be able to channel negative energy first, and then some sort of Turn [x] Feat modeled on the Turn Undead feat would do it. May be a bit overpowered, though, as Turn Undead affects a certain creature type, whereas Turn [good] covers a much broader range of entities. Also, being able to 'command' one thing does not necessarily imply the ability to 'turn' something else. Finding a way to balance it without going Über would be the challenge :)
