This could be the connection to Ragnek that I have been seeking in my confusion. If he his leading his army of beasts at the behest of Lamashtu in the aid of the Destroyer Cultists this entire region could be in grave danger. With his band ensconced at Blackforks they are in easy striking distance of Hommlet at any point. If you will help me I will be glad to join your group in stopping Dunrat's planning."

In the morning

Carlson rises early and after a quick shave and wash helps Miss Amelia. "Thank you so kindly for trusting me last night mistress Amelia. If I am being completely honest, I was not as rapid in returning as a I could have been, and I would like to atone for bending my word. Name some task I may do for you in order to make amends."

At the council
Carlson takes a seat next to Sir Gareth. He offers his thanks to the council. "I am sorry for the sadness that has befallen this town. Thank you for clearing my name. I wish I could provide more iformation, but other than offering my aid last night against that horrid abomination and the cultists at the mill I have been unaware of the events transpiring here. I came here to meet with elder Jaroo to find out about Ragnek the Huge, though it seems that is no longer an option..." Carlson hangs his head for a moment "If there is any way I can help fight those monsters I will gladly do so."

He then seats himself quietly and listens, answering any other questions asked of him.

This seems like a good point to say it as it's a sort of natural break. This game is freaking awesome and this is a wonderful story. Very happy to be a part of it. Thanks for having me. Looking forward to what will come in the future.

Carlson inclines his head in respect to Romidar and turns to Gareth. "Sir Gareth thank you.. I would love to assist further and have a long conversation once things have been... Resolved somewhat. Let us go, I owe miss Amelia an explanation."

Carlson turns and makes his way back to the tower after thanking the others and mentioning that he hopes to see them again soon.

As soon as Sir Romidar arrives and is greeted by Sir Gareth Carlson chimes in. "Sir Romidar. I was temporarily paroled from the tower in the face of this immediate threat and I need to return to Miss Amelia now that the abomination is slain and the others have fled. " Carlson has left Amelia's bow and arrows with Sir Gareth and is currently unarmed and somewhat beaten from the combats.

Carlson watches Caller and the halfling ride off and stands down as he assumed the invisible others follow. He sees the woman and man emerge and calls to the others. "Quickly, tend to them and see if they are alright! Do we have any potions? Is Angel alright? What about Sir Gareth?"

Will you give me yours not to kill us here?" Carlson calls to the dread cleric before him. He holds out the bow and raises his hands, but does not throw it into the water yet.

Well... tossing weapons down might be the best option right now. With a 9th level rogue currently invisible I don't think any of us could take a direct hit from him.

Hey! confirmed crit is no joke for that pistol, that's x4 damage. Also, since it counts as a normal bomb attack as well, I would personally argue that that counts as a critical for the bomb as well. Granted bombs only critical off of their base damage of 1d6 for x2. but that's still an extra 1d6 bomb damage on top of x4 pepperbox crit. That's 16 damage from the pistol and 7-13 fire damage! Now the extra bomb critical is subject to DM approval, but it seems pretty straightforward to me. That seriously packs a wallop. Nice hit.

I dunno, it really does seem like they are trying to get away, with all of the riding off and running. And if the fake Jaroo gets away... well then that just gives us a recoccurring antagonist to go up against. Hopefully when his level 9 rogue and level 6+ sorcerer friends aren't waylaying us after we're already wounded.

Also it's going to be a lot harder to get the community back on our side if we burn down the mill. Though that could make things more fun.

Edit: aaand right after I post that angel tosses the fire. This will be interesting :P

Carlson staggers from the wash of energy that slams into him and the others. He falls to the ground and stands back up. Surprise round action: stand back up Then grimaces at the huge man before him and lets two arrows fly.

This is getting really serious, burning a point of Ki to AC for +4. Using a perfect strike on the first attack so that I can roll two dice

Carlson hears the others confirming the presence of evil inside the mill and shakes himself for a moment. "I was correct. I should have returned to the tower as soon as the beast was felled, but if I had not been here would the others have missed the villains? Is that why I came here? I have broken my word to Amelia. I shall follow this through and then return and face justice for my actions. Oh Erastil, you do not always give us easy burdens, just strong backs."

He knocks another arrow in his bow and watches the door. "I'm ready. Let us open that door and see what lays in wait."

To the trooper he adds "I am sorry for my suspicion of you, these past few days have been very difficult. Though why you think followers of Erastil are behind this I do not understand. Shapeshifters walk among us man! The acolytes at the grove were just destroyed by an unholy abomination! There is no way followers of Erastil would consort with such a plot." He turns and follows the others.

I'm going to assume that Carlson was given back his gear by the group. If not it's no big deal, only a point on AC or so. He is down 6 arrows and has 16 nonlethal damage currently, but other than that has suffered no ill effects.

Carlson cries in frustration, seeing the creature swallow one of the men whole.

Not familiar with Ultimate Campaign but I've heard good things about it from people. Mythic playtest is cool for some stuff and can give an epic feel, but at least the early versions of the playtest didn't really capture it crunch wise. I don't know about the final product.

Oops! Sorry I messed up the distances involved with my post there. By my estimation it'll take Carlson 2 rounds more to get there (240 run action and 400 feet left to cover). I'm going to be at work for the next 5 hours and will probably be incommunicado, so maybe just assume that that was Carlson's action when he arrives in two more rounds?

Carlson races towards the grove and sees the magic missiles fail to affect the monster If I'm close enough. When he breaks through cover and reaches 30 foot range he also fires two shots at it to test it's defenses Attack 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Attack 2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17. He sees the others fighting it at the grove and calls to the half elf who cast magic "We Cannot let it escape the grove! It could kill everyone!"

"You can trust me with anything mistress Amelia." He races to follow her up the stairs. Upon witnessing the horror at the grove he realizes that now is the time for action. He gathers the equipment offered.

"Thank you for this trust. May Erastil protect you and the others. I know why I was brought here now. I swear I shall do everything in my power then return here.". With that he slings all of the equipment over his shoulder, and starts running for the grove as fast as he can. As soon as he leaves the tower he quaffs both potions and then runs for everything he is worth.
