INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Having swept into the back of the enemy's lines, Caelan slashes at the cleric.

Mithral longsword attack, flanking: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 9

"Nobody calls my friend a beast!" snarls Caelan as he moves up, ducks under Pink-Eye's arm, takes up a spot behind the corner of the building and lashes out around the corner once more at the next foe.

Mithral longsword attack, bless, around corner: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 - 4 = 11
Clang!

Would that be a... clerical error?

No funny business: Caelan whips his sword around the corner of the wall once more.

"If this guy is trying to befuddle our friends, the simplest move is just to cut him down," whispers Caelan to Gauntlet.

Caelan keeps his sword at the ready, just in case the situation changes. "Right - well, let's give it a minute and see what happens," he says in response to Gauntlet's comment.

Caelan stands, wipes the blood from his mouth, and takes a wild swing around the corner.

Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1

Since the battle location has shifted, Caelan tries to leap to the edge of the ruined building so that he can climb down, but misses the leap, crashes into the wall, and hits the ground hard with blood shooting out of his mouth.

Caelan manages to get up onto one of the rooftops and, crouching, makes his way south to engage the enemies from the side.

Yeah, my stealth is terrible, taking 10 is likely the best I can do when combined with my bad luck. My climbing is good though! +4 even with my armor check penalty.

"What are they even doing here?" wonders Caelan. "They must have a pretty unusual task - like we do - to bother with the Mournlands."

"This town runs on graft, eh?" says Caelan. He brushes back his hair with one hand, though his other hand stays on his baldric. "Look, let's just get this over with and maybe we can get through a day without any maiming?"

Caelan rolls his head to one side and then the other, his right hand tightening until the knuckles are white. "If we're gonna dance, let's do it," he says in a deadpan voice.

Caelan glances about the room for his companions as he and Gauntlet return inside, and he signals with two fingers toward Xetovia to let her know that he's spotted them. When he notices that negotiations are already underway, he hangs back for a moment, but seeing that Erix has decided that House Cannith affiliation is not a barrier for now, he makes his way over to the team.

Caught in the middle of eating an entire chocolate cake, Caelan says, "Wait, we're still on?" He slowly lowers the fork, cake smeared across most of his face.

Caelan nods and says, "Thanks for taking a look, Xetovia. Listen, I'm gonna stay outside with Gauntlet. Two sets of eyes are better than one - can only look one direction at a time, after all." He pays for a mug of beer, winces at the mediocre taste, and says to Erix, "Keep these folks from making more enemies, will you, cuz?" with a smile. Then he steps back outside and takes up a spot on the wall near Gauntlet, alternating between sipping his disappointing beverage and looking up and down the streets.

"Spot anything, my friend?"

Caelan seems to notice Ama's reticence and says, "Hey, just stay close and look confident. If you look like you're surprised or lost, people will try to take advantage of you. Anyone looks at you in a way you don't like, just say the word." He rattles the scabbard of his sword.

"It's true! So thank you as well for helping out my dear cousin," says Caelan to the caravan master. He speaks forthrightly. "It'll be good to have you back on your feet quickly," he then says to Erix.

Caelan nods as Xetovia arrives with messages. "Still keeping the battle line together, just like old times, eh?" he manages with a chuckle. "I think we have these on the rout. Thanks for letting me know that Erix is still alive. C'mon, let's get back to the caravan."

The warrior makes his way back to the cliffside, flings his sword down so that it sticks point-first in the ground below, then climbs down carefully himself.

Taking 10 should get me down with no trouble - total of 14.

He grabs his sword again and jogs back to the wagons.

"Erix! Cousin, you took a bad hit there! How are you holding up?"

"Thanks, Pink-Eye," says Caelan. He's breathing hard even though he isn't sweating as he lets the goblin blood simply drip off of his sword. He closes his eyes for a few moments, then shivers slightly like someone with a sudden chill and says, "I'm all right, I'm all right, let's get the caravan going again."

For %&^'s sake. This is my sixth natural 1 in the last four days on just the boards. On Sunday I was in a tabletop game where in the final boss fight my series of attack rolls was 1, 2, 2, 1. Meanwhile the goblin crits vs. AC 21. I give up.
