I have always run a some what basic sand box old school style game. Based round the original 1st Edition AD&D style of play. I have also taken ideas and the feeling using Skyrim, so with all that guff out of the way, I tend to allow my players to make characters by them selves and have a fairly simple point form of history this way I can tag in story plots.

Suppose I roll up a Hobgoblin PC for this campaign. What would that entail?

I recall that Second Darkness strongly discourages and all but forbids players to play as Drow. This is understandable, given the Drow's origins and their secrecy in the Pathfinder campaign setting. However, while Hobgoblins are almost universally Lawful Evil, they are not bound to evil in the same way that (setting-wise) Drow are.

Thus, one could play as a Hobgoblin in Ironfang Invasion; most plausibly Lawful Neutral or maybe even Lawful Good. He or she could be a defector from the Ironfang Legion or an exile from it. Potential for amusing Star Wars "Traitor!" meme references aside, it could prove to be an interesting option.

Does the AP discourage playing a Hobgoblin? Is there a sidebar explaining why you shouldn't play one or what you should take into consideration if you do?

What are the others playing in the gaming group? What does you Director say? Hob-Goblins eat people generally, so if I was I Director I would say now to you playing this race but I would insist it follow a evil Alignment and take the relevant outcomes from towns ie anti HobGob sentiment. I had a party a long while back, one of the hero's was sick with lycanth & we couldn't take him into any village as they would try to kill him, good where wolf front line fighter but.

We need a cool MEGA Campaign Dungeon Crawl Adventure Not another Creature Book & really the Art on the cover not that great??? I hope this is not the actual cover your goanna use. Get Wayne to do it, add in maybe some Lairs or site designs maybe??? Underdark Pathfinder style please??? Not hard people.

Dark Archive

I have the originals, and I am keen to get the Hardcover, I already have the Rune lords, and would be looking to replace the 2nd Darkness also.

Dark Archive

Wounder if they will release a Creature & New Optional DMG Screen with the themed artwork on the panels well its a thought anyway.

Dark Archive

Thank God they are actually realising some thing worth while. This is a Fab direction guys. Now if you could do a 3-5 book part MEGA Campaign adventure path thing, like WORLDS BIGGEST DUNGEON plus WORLD BIGGEST CITY and PTOLUS by Monte Cook that would be Good. Here is the thing it could be like a completely new place? Like City of Brass, Like plane scape? Night below Under-mountain ??

Its not uncommon to have a DM/GM insert some sort of drama into the game.

That's said this seems like the DM/GM a)might be a sleep on the job or b)Not aware this player was planning on being a dick.

This could be done or handled in many different ways we had a player character get the werewolf thing and as times he almost killed the party, rather then gang up and kill him, we actually decided that we would just stick him out the front (like the hulk) and say smash, once we had a game plan then we were ok.

TRICK No#1 Cheap playing Cards (x2 packets)
Trace the shape of your standard playing card, replicate so that you have a template on a standard sheet, you can also do a stencil, if your keen allows you to print out landscapes and place the template over the top and mark up before cutting out.

From here as you can see are able to create creature tons of cards for various different uses the DM/GM Weapon, Spell, Feats Skills the entire ballpark use a basic picture and stick the guy over the face of the playing card. (like the FACE CARDS & Adventure path card game)

Classic Adventures B1 Search of the unknown & B2 Keep Boarder-lands
RPGnow had pdf down load of these and many more BASIC set adventure modules. Very easy to upscale to pathfinder basic rule set.

TRICK no#2 Print out Beginner Box Character sheets get lamented, use erasable overhead markers. same with equipment, look info page.

Trick no#3 Use nail/screw plastic containers from the hard ware store to store Dice and the pawns stops them getting lost. Fishing store boxes to store plastic figures

Here is the funny thing, how many actual hard cover Books do you have? How many Adventure path campaign sets do you have in the flesh (paper)
Trends change and the TSR thing was almost a soap opera in itself.
Tech plays a massive role in TT RPG now and many people play and DM with Tablets and Netbooks or Transformers with stylus pens.
Use of apps like Fantasy Grounds on your LCD HD TV via a Laptop are every day things now. Back in the day I had a ring binder and the 1st Edt 3 core books in my Gaming messenger bag, that was considered organised. LOL

I have a nice small collection of books and when some thing comes out I like most get the PDF and decide if I need it. Mostly I just keep the PDF I win & so does Paizo. If I enjoy the product enough I now order from them or Amazon. We both win again. (I think electronic versions & the Tablet make a major positive step in the gamers and DM tool box)

Now if the older versions of the Adventure path Campaigns were released in say a single book, like Rise of the Rune-lords with a DM Screen that matched I would be so into that in both versions.

Bring back the boxed Sets Hells Rebels Boxed set would contain players guide, DM Guide DM Screen, NPC Face, equipment & Foe Cards, Hero Sheets, maybe note paper or character themed Folio(could also be a down load)
Maybe a mini Monster Man(small)& enough room for all the Adventure path modules. & possible add ins? Well that's a dream I have anyway.

Dark Archive

Yeah that would be fab if you could do that. I was just kind of excited about the book & bag, (sad right)I just figured I would ask. Thanks if you could send the 2 and put the T-shirt on Back order Thanks Again Mate. I will put another prawn on the BBQ for ya.

Dear All

I don't normally purchase hard covers on line, but new occult book seemed like a fab book to add into my collection. I have ordered #3668901 the hardcover a T-shirt & a massager bag the system has pending in the status bar. Its been like that for a few weeks. Some thing I need to do to assist.

Kind Regards Simon Bruno Moore

I would play a few games of old school AD&D or Dungeon Crawl Classics or even D&D Basic/Expert the pdf is at below location.

http://www.dndclassics.com/product/110274/DD-Basic-Set-Rulebook-B-X-ed-Basi c?filters=0_0_44699

Why? This should give you a FAB simple way of working out how this should be, you don't have to play with the kids, I play with my wife and the Adults and it works in very well, I then run D&D 5E & Pathfinder Games for two other groups.

B5 "Horror on the hill" and B1+B2 are Prob the best example of a adventure creation & styles you should look at. At this level anyway.

Dark Archive

Well, I played the Bata test version of PF when it first came out, and while purchased the beginner box and used it I currently run on fantasy Grounds several games, for several different player types. But I must say the original D&D BASIC and EXPERT versions are by far the best & straight Fwd for playing with new non gamers and small children round the 9-12 age group, who really just want to play. D&D5E is well some where out in its own again but this version seems to have rolled back to a more old school 2nd edt feel.

Dark Archive

I would drop them in the current format, along with feats and a ton of other stuff. I would have a skill tree and with advancement points/exp you could purchase or re purchase skills also could mabe have a % system return.

Homebrew SOPs
I have tried a lot of different combo, currently I have been using my Tablet. I have a Sam Galaxy Note 10.1 and with the S Pen have hand written most of my Standard Operrating Proceedures for Home brew & Campaign materials.

The Good is I can out sections to players as required but even better I can update material on the fly and resolve any parts people may find need reworking. The same goes for campaign construction as I have done the same this plus I can add in any relevant maps and artwork that fits.

The Bad would be to forget charge up before any Game session (sound a bit like a no brainer but I have forgetten to do it heaps of times in a last minute rush)and not forget your cords. And the S Pen is a bit tetchy works better if you write a certin way, my hand writing in cursive is a bit messy.

I have cut my Homebrew rules into small blocks and most blocks only go for 2-3 pages. I did this to keep it simple and for the ease of updates. Hope this helps.

Dark Archive

Well I still play AD&D1 (thanks wizards for the reprints) and also BB PF. A Rules light system should/can be home modded well its your world and you have ability to Ramp up or down the Anti as you want is this not the point of RPG as opposed to playing WOW. Please advise.

Dark Archive

**contd....I then place the complete Adventure path set once printed inside plastic sleeves then in a 2 ring binder, place the front & back Pix or combo picture in the front & Back Pocket. Its a blooming fab idea and its very HDty.

Dark Archive

Same thing happened to me as well, but what made it worse the game store actually made me pay upfront for everything and then made me wait 4 weeks as they only had the shop copy in store. (they dont keep stock of anything except core books)

In the end I save up and purchassed a colour printer that prints on both sides & I just get the PDFs. I only purchase select Hardcovers now.

I thought the entire point of RPG was to be far away from Reality as one could get? Sadly sound like a lame idea mate. Good luck with that.

Dark Archive

Why do we need cool things to say?

Dark Archive

Lets get a few facts in...What age group are we talking here? What sort of actual GM/Player experience are we talking? Time frame do we play every night.week.month? Yes it all comes into play.
I can't really slap you on the back of the head and shout harden the Heck up your acting like a bunch of school kids if in fact your 12.

I would advise, GM Rotation as a standard action anyway, its gets fresh blood in/out of the hot seat. I would make the hard decision and just say your a crap DM cause your allways being a dick and not playing well.

Also how many people are playing? Had he been drinking?

I currently run 2 Groups (AD&D1E & PF) with a combo of New players & Vets, aged round the 30-45 oldies that said we have had players do one off as a test who have been in the 25-35. I would run a session every F/N Most of the players are friends family and or from contacts in the game store.

Dark Archive

BB Set as a stand alone product works fine, and should stand as is, a additional BB GM Box or Sandpont Box could slot in here. Additional materials could be included in the GM BB that could contain optional expansion for a more generic Basic version as well as intergration of the standards PF Rule set.

"I'm not sure why we're discussing whether or not we want a PF second edition" Myself I wouldn't even look at another edition as I have way too much money invested in THIS edition. The main reason I left D&D3.5 was the fact they keep changing the systems.

Dark Archive

A lot GM's Home rule/Tweek the standard SOP (standard operating Proceedures) STATS in order to keep players on the back foot as they assume most players have the details from the various creature books. I would mention it but I wouldn't like get all union meeting on the said issue. Ask him/her about what the Home rules are on this or in gereral, this may cover a lot more info and you may find out more. If the group is happy with and not overally bothered by...then just roll with it.

Dark Archive

I have only played through "Shackled city" all they way through and "rune Lords up to book "sins of the saviors" when most of the party died 3/4 of the way through. The Group then disbanded and regrouped to then play PTOLUS witch we completed after two years. My gaming group then disbanded as I changed jobs and many of my players finished their Uni degrees and left the state. I have purchassed some of "Wraith Ritcheous" but as yet still havent played a full session of PF. Currently playing Beginner Box.

QUOTE
"The problem with it, at least for me, is that gaming is a hobby, not a profession or para-profession or even a competitive sport. I look at it as something fun for my free time, not something that is a codified facet of life like a job. Folks will miss, folks will be late at last notice, folks will vanish without a trace, its the nature of hobbies; they take back seat to real life."

Gaming is a Hobby, this very small select group or version of Gaming is not main stream & much smaller. It ranks at best 3.5 out of 10 in the importance scale compared to XBox360 riding a Harley or going to a movie.

A gaming "Contract" as such sounds like a good idea on paper, but in reality, I would have to PAY my players a wage for them to even read it.

WHAT WE REALLY NEED
Gaming contracts aside, I would like a vertial gaming table app for say a tablet or smartphone, in theory you could have a vertial gaming contract earn Gamer points for signing up for a adventure and playing 90% of you sessions? I just like the way they do/did "MAGIC: on the XBox/PC I am sure you could do a "thing with Pathfinder and Fantasy Grounds"

SIMPLE CONSTRUCT METHOD v3
At the top of an A4 or A3 page place the Heading Starting point and underneath place the Adventure name. Draw a square around it with a line leading down to an empty box.

At the bottom of the page place the Heading Conclusion, the Boss Battle and a red square around it.

PROCESS
construct you brief view of an adventure path in its simple forms in a block by block path to the conclusion. You can have side quest ideas attached and other possible connecting links.

DRAFTS
Use a stencil and pencil with a quality errasor and you should be fine. Also use INDEX cards different colours for expanding information, on towns buildings of interest NPS or creatures.

SANDPOINT BOX
Hell yeah, I am old school so any Box set is good. But A starting point for any DM/GM is a mega step in the right direction.

Throw in say a PF Directors Screen, a few booklets on Campaign construction, Sandpoint, CD with blank forms, Generic Urban, wilderness & dungeon map packs.

Flow charts and capmaign adventure parth style design development construction ABC's and you should be go to go. Some blank but form styled Index cards, for NPC, Creatures, Character Summary-to match up with the Game mastery Friens & Foes ect

I really can't see what all the fuss is about. The player need to harden up. Rogue or Thief ROLE = backstabs badguys, uses a crossbow/long bow with posion tipped arrows, clears traps, hides in shadows and attacks by flanking & missle or incendury? Not hard. No crying in the corner how all the fighters got all the gold and glory needed. Mate your a Thief, you steele things & then sell it back to people.

Dark Archive

I managed to run it in AD&D1Edt & Pathfinder so I can't see you having to much problems. Depends on how much you intend to modify the original materials.
I prefer the sand box style so at times I have to add/modify and change a lot of small things. It kind of depends on also what type of players you have. How they process encounters and thats sort of thing, its a open doorway really a bit hard to measure.
For myself and my small team it takes me about a month to modify materials and get it to what I want.
