Yah, that's some tough news. I was enjoying this, but completely understand.

If/when you get a machine back up and running -- and are still interested in running this or a similar game -- just hit us up in this thread or start something else up.

Good luck with your computer stuff. I'm sure you lost more critical info than a photoshop file for an online game.

Cool. That's understandable. I'm out of town for the weekend, anyway.

Hope you find a computer solution, man.

Wow. Chalk that up to an epic reading fail on my part. I even read that post but didn't realize you had given us a general area. Sorry about that, Announcer.

Round 10:
Only having a general idea where the creature is, Braegan picks a spot and looses his arrow. Even as it speeds away, he sheathes his bow. "I don't like this waitin'. 'Specially with those guys down there on their own. If that thing has any kind of smarts it'll be able to pick us apart with its invisibility. I say we split into teams of three or four and fan into that area, everyone watching everyone else's back."

Shoot the bow into L-11.
Shortbow 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13.
---> Miss Chance 1d100 ⇒ 86
---> Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.
.
5' step to S-29.

DM:
I'm more curious to know if we can see the spikes when they're shot. Wouldn't we be able to at least see a handful of squares from which they probably originated? I mean, i'm assuming that the manticore has to be at the edge of the fire/smoke for him to have LoS to Jhock, so wouldn't we be able to generally know where he is?

If not, that's fine. It's just how i was thinking about it

There's a wicked gleam in Braegan's eye, "Tie it to my arrow?"

Still standing still -- arrow to cheek -- Braegan speaks to anyone listening, "Anyone got any ways of killin' that thing's invisibility? Heck, anyone got any rope?"

Oh, no problem. Is there a word-limit you'd like us to respect or someting? I've had DMs who frowned on using too many words as free actions.

Why do I have a feeling that waiting for the manticore to show himself won't be a winning strategy for us in the long-run? So at this point we're just waiting to see if anyone has any anti-invisibility options?

If not, I say we split into groups to move out and sweep the area we think he's in.

Any other thoughts on this?

Round 9; Initiative 21:
As the spikes are launched, Braegan pulls his bow up, fletchings to cheek. His eyes focus on the area from which the spikes originated, his body frozen in place -- ready to release the arrow. As he watches and waits, he murmurs to those around him, "The flames on that ship don't look right. Burnin' too fast. Like they're alive and movin' on their own."

Ready an action to fire an arrow the next time those spikes are shot at someone.
Shortbow 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
---> Miss Chance 1d100 ⇒ 97
---> damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.
.
Then Perception to continue searching for the Manticore - 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26.
.
Full AC/HP.

Weekends are actually the most difficult for me to post. Got one little dude and another on the way.

Round 8 - Initiative 21:
Braegan jogs up the steps and onto the center of the platform, straining with eyes and ears for the remaining animal as he chuckles at Vidor's assessment. "Seems about right ta me." When he sees the well-blooded halfling disentangling himself from the now-dead lion, he reaches into his potion pouch. His fingers find the right vial by muscle memory, and he pulls out one of his healing draughts, holding it up for Ebenadar.

"Um… Ebenadar, right? Come have some healin' while we wait fer the manticore."

Move to T-30 (should be down/left of Vidor).
Perception to locate the manticore 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
.
Then use a second move action to pull out one of his Potions of CLW (1d8 + 1) for the Ebenadar. I figure if I use the action to get it out for him, the halfling can just make it up here and drink it in one round, right?
.
Either way, Braegan still has bow in one hand, potion in the other, and is now ready to rage again at need.

Ebenadar, you should definitely read my spoiler since my initiative is before yours. :)

Dropped a "Tactics" spoiler at the bottom of Braegan's profile.

Oh, fine... if you're gonna be all logical on me.

Sheesh. Can't a guy brag and swagger a bit without being called out?

By killing off such a waste of a fighter spot. I mean, they didn't want Arkol the Weak Link when they got into the serious fights, right? :D

So you're saying we did them a favor... awesome.

Was Arkol a new recruit to their team or did we just off one of their good buddies?

Sigz, I totally didn't realize you were Jack!

No wonder I liked that guy. :)

So you're telling me to kill Thinky NOW?

: shrugs :

well, if the DM says it's important... ;P

What tactic should we feel free to use? Summoning and dropping a ship on our opponents?

: Looks over character sheet :

Apparently a ranger/barbarian doesn't have that specific tool in his tool kit. :)

Do you mean that we should feel free to come up with less standard and highly cinematic options?

Round 7; Initiative 21:
"We need to get outta this water," Braegan says as he sends two arrows way wide of the lion on the center platform. "There's a metal line running from one of those levers up there into this water... a trap."

Rapid Shot - full attack on the lion in Q/R-27/28.
Shortbow 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 - 2 = 7
---> damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.
.
Shortbow 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 2 = 10
---> damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9.

2nd of 2 rounds until he can rage again.
AC at full; HP at full.

BOOM! Awesomeness!

Braegan - Round 6 - Initiative 21:
The immediate threat taken care of, Braegan lets the death-grip on his adrenaline loosen. He's forced to draw a deep breath as the thrill recedes from his limbs, only the magic of his potion keeping the effects of his rage at bay. He smiles a wicked smile at Vidor and Jack as he slides Longclaw back into his sheathe. "Hopefully that'll give 'em pause before attackin' their own team members next time." As his eyes scan their surroundings, he leans down to pick up his discarded shortbow (which he had dropped in his own square at the end of his movement last round).

"Vidor, you got something for that cut? And where should we head now?"

Drop rage. Sheathe falchion (move action), and pick up bow (move action).
1 of 2 rounds until he can rage again. AC back up to full.
Perception 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

: bounces in seat in anticipation :

Yep. Busy happens. Glad all is still good, and you're still with us, DM.

We'll all be here anxiously anticipating the next round. :)

Don't Lions have the Pounce ability? Which would allow the lion to full attack at the end of his charge.

Who are we giving suggestions to?

If I were giving suggestions to Jun Yu on how to survive a round or two while reinforcements arrive, then I'd suggest he burn a ki for 4 more AC, then go full defensive, then try to tumble away. That should net him a +8 to AC for the next round.

: shrugs :

The lion(s) could still roll well and take him out, but if the dice have your number...

Hey everyone, until Monday or Tuesday of next week, feel free to take 1-2 days to post. We open a new store Sunday, and we fell behind on some of the work this week, so this whole week/end will be long days. I should update every day-to-two-days until mid-next week. I'll update tomorrow for round 5.

No problem. With this large of a crew and RL stuff, I think you're doing wonderfully.

About the movement - no biggie. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something in the rules. Just glad we're on the same page. :)

The Announcer wrote:

It was ambitious to run this many players and NPCs/monsters at once, but I wanted to see if I could do it in a PbP.

What do you all think so far?

Like i said above, I think you're doing a fantastic job here. I was surprised you decided to run with such a big first event, but I'm actually really enjoying it. The speed of play to me is a non-issue. It's a pbp game... it moves the speed its players/DM can run it.

Loving the opponents. Loving the players. Loving the fight and the narration.

Basically, good job, man. Cant wait to see where this fight takes us.

Oh, DM, I meant to ask you about your ooc comment regarding Braegan's jump past Arkol.

i thought that his jump was just part of his double-move... not a run. Which means - since he didn't' run - that he could move through Arkol's space, right? Or am I missing something?

Isn't the manticore the thing in S-T/41-42?

EDIT: HA! Nope, that's Cowboy... sheesh. /facepalm

Round 5 - Initiative 21:
Braegan has seen this type of back-stabbing and team-killing, especially against new gladiators or team members. It pisses him off, and his reaction is decisive and dangerous.

A few steps take him down the stairs and into the water, putting Arkol squarely between himself and Vidor. He lets his wrath course through his veins as he drops his bow and draws Longclaw. "ARKOL! YOU TOUCH ANY MORE A'MY FRIENDS, AND I'LL FINISH THE JOB!" As he yells, he brings the falchion down on Arkol in a vicious over-hand swing.

Move to s-35 (flanking Arkol with Vidor).
Rage (round 1 of 14)
Drop short bow and draw Longclaw: Free action x2
Power Attack on Arkol 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 12 - 2 + 2 = 24; Power attack, Flanking
--- damage 2d4 + 10 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 10 + 6 = 24

Braegan's AC is 16 for the round b/c of raging.

Braegan - Round 4:
Braegan nods, "On it." And he double-times it towards the center platform. He picks up as much speed as he can, then takes a soaring leap over the rubble and water, his momentum carrying him just beyond Arkol and onto the platform steps. As he soars, he uses his height for a looksy around at the field on the far-side of the platform.

Double move, which will give him enough of a running start to begin a jump in square S-40, leaping over as much difficult terrain as possible.
Jump (Acro) 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30.
That gives him 30 feet of horizontal movement - (which is splash-down in S-34).
This leaves him with 15 feet of movement, which is one square through difficult terrain, so he ends on the stairs in S-33).
Perception 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22.

Was trying to wait for Jack to post, but I'll go ahead and throw it out, now. Don't want to hold things up.

Braegan - Round 3 Actions:
Without looking away from the various targets on the field, Braegan gives a broken smile at Vidor and Arkol's words, "I'm only an archer as long as they decide to give me room. Ole' Longclaw can't wait to take some blood of her own." Even as he speaks he draws a second arrow followed by a third, drawing them to cheek and loosing them at the spotted lion Tulrok ran after.

5' step to S-47 to clear his firing lane, then Rapid Shot at the Dire Lion in I/J - 33/34.
Shortbow 1d20 + 8 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 2 - 2 = 18; right on the edge of his bow's range, so i included the penalties to both shots. If the lion is within 70 ft, both of these attack rolls are 2 points higher.
--- Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.
.
Shortbow 1d20 + 8 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 - 2 - 2 = 13;
--- Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8.

Lowering his bow, he looks over Jack, Vidor, and Arkol, "We staying put, following Tulrok, or heading to the central platform? I'll be right behind you." Again he keeps his eyes open for unexpected feline or trap-like surprises.
Perception 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31.

The Announcer (in the main thread) wrote:
Braegan, please spoil them in the future.

Sorry, I didn't realize I was posting out of order. I'll be more careful in the future.

And just for clarity, we nay need to spoiler our actions if we're going before our turn, right? Or do you want them always spoilered?

Pretty rockin', right?

Rd. 2; Initiative 21

As Jack moves for high ground, Braegan sees a lion on the far stairs of the central ruins. It's a long shot, he thinks, but one I've made before.

As he stalks carefully forward, moving from one protective wall to another, he switches weapons and lines up his shot. In a blink the shortspears hit the floor, his short bow comes out, an arrow is drawn from the quiver and drawn to cheek in one smooth motion, and is sent down-range… rushing towards one of the lions.

After loosing, he yells out, eyes still scanning for threats, "You heard the boss, guys! Keep moving toward the center and stick together. Ja--- uh… Undertaker, Vidor, don't get too far away!"

Move to T-46.
Drop the short spears and draw shorbow (both free actions).
Shoot the lion in S/T-27/28. I'm assuming he has some kind of cover for being 5' below the 15' floor of the central area, but I'd think Braegan would still have a shot.
Shortbow 1d20 + 8 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 2 - 4 = 17; including penalties for range and cover.
--- Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.
Perception (for traps, lions or anything else, really) 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20.

In pathfinder, all Large animals are 10x10.

Also, are we at the back at the top of initiative?

Quick question. The squares that look like they have rubble, but don't' have an altitude modifier (yellow numbers), are those difficult terrain? I'd love to be able to use rubble to break charging lanes.

The Announcer wrote:
Braegan, drinking a potion is a standard action.

Yep.. just got my actions reversed. I'll be more careful in the future.

Everyone is using that stat block at the beginning of their post... was that your request, DM? And if so, can you point me to the post so i can copy/paste it? :)

Bend the bolt... Wanted style?

Since jack was the only one on my team to beat my initiative…

Braegan had taken the runner's minute to pick up two short spears as well as get one of his potions out and ready. At the word of the announcer, Braegan takes a moment to slug the potion, the sour liquid giving a warm feeling to his body. Move action to drink a Potion of Invigorate. He now ignores the effects of Fatigue and Exhaustion for 10 minutes.

He then rushes out of the starting area, trying to secure an avenue for his team to run towards the central ruins. move to S-52.

He gives Jack a grin when he stops next to him, back to the wall, "Get ready, Undertaker… things are gettin' fun now!"

And what are the chances Braegan could make a last minute purchase and spend his last 100g on two potions of Grease? :)

Sorry for the machine gun posting. I'm on my phone and editing is a pain.

And also, just to make sure I'm looking at this correctly, the Bonegrinders are starting in the orange square on the right side of the map?

About my ranks, the ones in OOC parenthesis are the number of ranks I've put in the skill. It's for my benefit. The modifier is in black with the "+" next to it.

Braegan scrathes at his oily black hair as he thinks, unsurprised when he pulls a bug out.

Will some knowledge help us here? About lions abilities or tactics? And should I know what a spotted lion is? A leopard?
Knowledge: Dungeoneering 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Knowledge: Nature 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Also, are these ruins considered dungeon for Favored Terrain purposes?

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Braegan wakes quickly, two meaty and bare feet hitting the cold stone floor. You realize he only has four toes on either foot. Strapping on his boots and stretching out his chest and arms, he turns to give the monk a laugh, "I guess we'll see how any of us do soon enough, huh?"

Once ready, he goes overto find his two new drinking buddies, thinking over the stories they swapped over the past few days. "So, Vidor, you didnt ever mention any distance fightin'... you even own a bow?" He looks over at Jack's gear, "Or a crossbow, I guess those work, too."

As to who's on what team, I'm happy to be on either. Obviously it would be nice to be on Plan C proper, especially if his skills aren't necessarily valued on the Bonegrinders, but either way would be fine with me. He just had a nice little dynamic going with Vidor and Jack, and I think their skill-sets would be synergistic. When will we find out who's on which team?

I'm happy to run with Jack and Vidor. :)

Braegan claps the dark-haired Vidor's back good-naturedly, "Fella, I'm not sure any of us understood all the words yer sayin', but ya sounded smart sayin'em. Funnel'em in, chew'em up, and spit'em out... that about cover it?"

That was my read on Invigorate, too. Just wanted an official answer before I took them into any fights. And I'm having a hard time coming up with a stage look for Braegsn. I kind of thought his 'local boy' look would be his shtick, but if that's not gonna win any crowd favor for him or the team, I'd be open to other ideas.
.
I like Jack's look, though. Like a Victorian serial killer. :)

Holy crap. Thanks Sigz.
