Round 5; Initiative 22
Mandra grinned as she and Kahn moved into place alongside the giant scythe wielding man. "This shouldn't take very long." She said as she smirked at the giant before she and Kahn each took a quick strike at the lion, Khan doing his best to try and drag the larger cat to the ground while Mandra simply tried to do what she did best, tear the lion apart.

Drawing a bead at Arkol, Jack takes aim and fires at his exposed back, shooting a single bolt at him before dropping off the ruin and heading for the center to join Braegan and Vidor. The shot catches Arkol unaware, and he grimaces in pain. 18 damage on Arkol (I rolled Sneak Attack. The crowd cheers in surprise and approval. ”Naughty Arkol! Naughty Naughty!”
Mandra grinned as she and Kahn moved into place alongside the giant scythe-wielding man. "This shouldn't take very long." She said as she smirked at the giant before she and Kahn each took a quick strike at the lion, Khan doing his best to try and drag the larger cat to the ground while Mandra simply tried to do what she did best, tear the lion apart. Khan hits for 3 damage, but fails to trip the lion. Mandra hits for 14 damage. 17 total. The crowd cheers at Mandra’s savagery, and willingness to go toe-to-toe with the lion.
A few steps take him down the stairs and into the water, putting Arkol squarely between himself and Vidor. He lets his wrath course through his veins as he drops his bow and draws Longclaw. "ARKOL! YOU TOUCH ANY MORE A'MY FRIENDS, AND I'LL FINISH THE JOB!" As he yells, he brings the falchion down on Arkol in a vicious over-hand swing. What square did you drop your bow in? Raging, round 1. Braegan hits Arkol for 24 damage. Arkol staggers a moment, blood flowing freely from his armored body, shield sagging. The crowd roars in approval. ”A’right! I get it. I’m sorry. I just hate water.” He spits out a gob of blood.
Hearing humanoid cries of pain, he takes a quick look around, not noticing anything other than the soon-to-be-doomed lion in front of him. He grins. ”Be reaped!” he exclaims, and lifts his scythe in the air and brings it down powerfully onto the lion, finishing the creature’s life. The lion’s body spasms a little, and then goes limp, blood pooling out of it. 22 damage. The crowd is manic and ecstatic. ”Reaper! Reaper! Reaper!” You hear a rhythmic stomp, stomp, clap, stomp, stomp, clap from a large section of the crowd.
After being surprised by the big lion, Crugonk tries to break free from the grapple, but fails. Even if Pathfinder says grapples take place in adjacent squares, it’s easier for me, visually, to denote the icons as such. Crugonk is, I imagine, half-seated, and half in the lion’s clutches at this point.
Hearing the commotion behind him, Ebe turns to see Jun in distress and drops his crossbow before sprinting to his aid. Ebenadar tries to grapple the ferocious beast, but cannot find purchase.
Karl quickly follows Ebenadar, drawing his short swords, eyes darting frantically side to side as he guards himself against an invisible foe.
”Where the manticore!?”
Jun Yu holds his arm close to his body, streams of blood flowing from him and he glances back at the captain for a momment and winks slowly. "I think we better run now." Jun Yu then draws the energy needed from himself and sprints for relative safety. Good thing there are no AoOs without feats! The crowd is a mix of cheers and jeers. Some want Jun Yu’s blood, others obviously are happy for his escape.
Twang moves south to get a bead on the other lion to the south, and gets off a solid shot among the fray. 13 damage, since in point blank range.
Whincing at the sudden heavy blow, Vidor smiles and says "Ah a man who is living after my own heart! Win at any cost, no?" Now that the ball has been set in play the underhanded side of Vidor begins to show. Whipping his blades into action the duelist cranks the teeth of his swordbreaker against Arkol's bloodied blade and rips it from his grasp followed by a thrust from his thin rapier, stabbing Arkol in the gut as his sword falls into the water.
”AGHH!” Arkol is on his last leg, cowering behind his shield, and the crowd cheers, ”Kill Arkol! Finish him! Finish him! Finish him!”
”My pleasure!” A cocky voice yells from somewhere up above, and an arrow from Zayle lands squarely in the eye of Arkol. Arkol’s hand moves up to pull it out before his body goes limp and crashes to the water. The crowd goes wild.
Yark continues to attack the lion grappling Crugonk, and lands a mighty blow on the beast. The beast breaks its grapple with Crugonk and focuses its attentions now on Yark. Yark fends off the first two claws, but the bite lands home, and he finds himself wrestling with the beast now too, as its hind claws rake him fiercely. The crowd is pleased with the bloodshed.
Thinky flies quickly north, and higher above the fray. She fans herself and looks down, ominously at the lions on the ruins, scanning for something.
The lion just shot by Twang pauses and jumps atop the ruins next to it, obviously not happy with its current predicament. Those that keep line of sight on it can see it is heading north. The crowd boos the lion.
The lion facing Karl attempts to maul him to death. Two claw attacks hit. 17 damage.
If grab is successful: Rake 1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30; 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10, Rake 2: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16; 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
The lion behind it slinks along the edge of the ruin and takes a swipe at Ebenadar. 8 damage.
The spotted lion to the northeast holds its ground and roars mightily, waiting for the number of humanoids heading toward it to make their actions known. holding action, likely at a handler’s insistence.
Tolruk assesses the open ground between himself and the spotted lion, and repositions to the ruins nearby for higher ground. Move to Q40.
Ezendra responds to Jun Yu, “Agreed. We didn’t make the central ruin in time. Plan B: kill the lions and survive!” Ezendra runs at an angle north, and leaps off the platform. Somersaulting mid-air, she lands gracefully on the wall of the ruins north. Move to F12. She then pulls out a potion, ready to drink it. The crowd murmurs.
Dark Arrow looks a little panicked and directionless as Tolruk just left. He follows suit, obviously not a strategist. ”Wait for meeee!” The crowd jeers and teases him.
A number of spikes shoot out from the invisible manticore into the sky. Thinky is hit by two of them, and she yells in pain. Then she grins and declares, “Now I finds you, spike-cat. You be going for a voyage now.”
Cowboy charges the spotted lion to the northeast, and gores it mightily. The force of the attack leaves the creature senseless. Dire lion is stunned.
Sir Snarl yells out, “It’s getting away to the north!” as he trots after the fleeing lion, lance at the ready.

Reaching the pedestal, Jack nods at Vidor and Braegan as he passes them, taking the steps up to the platform. "Can we set up up here?" he asks them as he passes. As he looks around, he has a good vantage point of the surrounding terrain.
Smirking to herself as the lion falls, Mandra takes a quick moment to flick some of the blood off of her claws before immediately bolting off in search of more combat. She orders Khan to rush forward to the spotted lion ahead of them.
Braegan lets the death-grip on his adrenaline loosen, only the magic of his potion keeping the effects of his rage at bay. He smiles a wicked smile at Vidor and Jack as he slides Longclaw back into his sheathe. "Hopefully that'll give 'em pause before attackin' their own team members next time." As his eyes scan their surroundings, he leans down to pick up his discarded shortbow. "Vidor, you got something for that cut? And where should we head now?" As Braegan picks up his bow, he notices something odd.
After seeing Arkol fall, Vidor looks about deciding that it will be best to hold his ground and keep an eye for the next threat. "I'll be fine, my friend. Only scratch from little girl man, hahahaha." Looking about, he continues "I think it best we bring the beast to us, eh. They will be having to wade through the water and making them soggy mess."
Jhock licks his lips, tasting lion blood on them as he grins. "Another one down." He then turns, beginning to head towards Crugonk, but then sees more lions on top of the ruins, and turns to charge towards them, scythe raised high.
Yark fails to break his grapple, and the lion shreds him to pieces in a spray of blood and gore. Entrails, blood, and meaty bits litter the area as Crugonk heads to the southwest corner to quaff a potion.
"This platform ain' workin'! Le's regroup in th' middle!"
Ebe disengages from the lions in front of him, trying to nimbly dodge their attacks and moving past Karl before jumping off the platform.
With a cry of pain and rage as the lion's claws rip a chunk out of Karl's shoulder, he takes a swing at the beast in retaliation before leaping into the crevice and disappearing from sight. The crowd cheers as Karl’s strike draws blood.
Holding his ground, Jun yu quickly draws out one of his potions of cure light wounds and downs it quickly
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Twang shifts his footing and spins around and opens fire at the lion along the west wall. Both arrows strike home, and the lion howls in pain, blood oozing from its neck and side. The beast does not have much fight left in it, and the crowd cheers “Lucky Goblin! Lucky Goblin!”
Zayle shouts down to those on the central platform, ”Don’t pull any of those levers until we’re all on the center, or you’ll fry everyone else!”
Thinky flies even higher above the arena, and then mutters some incantation while plucking a feather from her fan. The next instant a ship materializes in the air above the ruins and falls with a thunderous crash atop the spotted lions and the invisible manticore. The force of the crash cracks the ruined platform, and causes the pillars to all come crashing down. Rocks and debris from the ship fly everywhere. The crowd’s excitement is nearly deafening. Karl takes 5 points of subdual damage from falling rocks, Jhock takes 2 subdual damage. As the stern of the ship crashes into the ruined walls just north, a fiery explosion detonates, likely a trap being set off. The whole back end of the ship is ablaze, and the din of the crowd is all you can hear.
The two spotted lions, battered and bloody, manage to crawl out from under the ship’s wreckage, and stand dumbfounded and in pain atop the ruins.
The lion fleeing north is panicked by the falling ship, and starts to flee east, toward the central ruins, coming to a stop before the narrow pillars. It’s hackles are raised and it roars at Sir Snarl, enraged and terrified. Sir Snarl backs his steed up, and heads south again, not wanting to get too near Thinky’s destructive wake.
Ezendra dodges flying splinters from the ship and hops off the ruins and disappears from sight.
Cowboy obliterates the stunned spotted lion with a flurry of hooves and fists, and Tulrok and Dark Arrow make their way to the center ruin. Tulrok shouts, sarcastically, to Vidor and Braegan in passing, ”Looks like we can make Plan A work after all.” You all can barely hear him over the crowd.

I'm updating tonight. I wanted to give everyone a chance to post first. For future, if everyone could give a brief tactics description somewhere near the very top or very bottom of their profile, I'd appreciate it. In case I need to DMPC a character due to time constraints-that way less people will be angry with me if I make your PC do ridiculous stuff.

"Wow..." Jack mutters in awe as he watches a whole ship come crashing down into the arena. "Remind me never to get on Thinky's bad side." Shaking off the sight of the spectacle, Jack steps forward onto the platform. Seeing the lion at the top of the steps, he fires two bolts in quick succession at it with deadly precision. The bolts fire true, deep in the lion’s rib cage. It howls in pain, and nearly falls down the stairs. A swift kick would probably kill it at this point.
Mandra's jaw dropped as the massive ship suddenly appeared out of thin air… and then burst into flames! She'd have to work even harder in order to match whomever decided to do that with pure ferocity. Smirking to herself, Mandra lets out a growl before leaping at the Spotted Lion, slashing at it with her claws, wounding it grievously. Khan does the same, landing a claw and bite, further wounding it. Lion takes 20 total damage.
"We need to get outta this water," Braegan says as he sends two arrows way wide of the lion on the center platform. "There's a metal line running from one of those levers up there into this water... a trap."
Jhock blinks as a ship appears and...falls! ”What in the lady's graveyard!? This fight is getting interesting, and on fire!” But he ignores the flames, seeing the one spotted lion nearby, and whips his scythe around, slashing at the feline as it crawls out from under the wreckage. The attack just hits, despite the cover of the ruins, and Jhock’s scythe cuts clean through the lion’s lower jaw, and embeds its blade deep in the chest of the poor creature. The crowd cheers again, and the flames are blazing brighter.
Crugonk charges the spotted lion, finally being able to fight as he likes. He spurs Murak towards the beast and lowers the point of his lance to pierce the foe, skewering it clean through. It takes him a bit of effort to slide the lion’s body off his lance as he continues to ride north, readying for another charge. "Finally some good riding" The crowd cheers again at yet another dead lion.
Jumping through the watery ruins, Ebe rounds the corner to find himself face to face with a lion, and mustering his strength, manages to throw himself at the beast in an attempt to subdue it. He grabs the lion’s mane, and twists its head, while wrapping one leg around its neck and bracing the other against the ruins near the stairs for leverage. The crowd is pleasantly shocked by the halfling that has subdued a lion!
A loud creaking, followed by a thunderous crash and the sound of thousands of shards fill the air, as the back half of the ship breaks off and falls to the ground below, and the rear mast cracks and leans northward at a sharp angle.
In the relative safety of the burning ruins, Karl crouches, dropping his short swords and drawing a wand from his belt; as he does so, he notices little translucent orbs floating about him, blinking occasionally to reveal what appears to be an eyeball. Seems the fans can see him, even down here. With extreme focus, Karl inserts the wand into his left nostril while sticking his right hand straight out to the side and spreading his fingers. His whole body begins to shake as he hums loudly attempting to find the wand's magical resonance. Karl heals 7 hp. There is a current of laughter among the crowd’s cheering.
Jun Yu stares at the empty bottle for a second and then look saround seeing mandra khan and the half orc crush the nearest lion shrugs and downs another potion.
Twang dances a little jig as he hears the crowd cheering his name. Most everyone seems to be heading to the center, so Twang decides it would be a good idea to join them. The lion’s dead, so I’m just having you double move.
Vidor moves up to the levers and takes a defensive position, alert and ready for danger.
Cowboy starts booking it back toward the platform, while Tolruk and Dark Arrow position themselves on the platform. “Once enough of us are up here, flip the first and last switch!” Tolruk barks at Vidor.
“Oy, boss! Lookit tha halflin’! He’s wrasslin’ a flippin’ lion! Ever see such?!” Tulrok raises an eyebrow, but otherwise says nothing.
Thinky starts descending, and then chants a spell to herself.
Sir Snarl maneuvers his steed north and tries to get on the platform, but stares dumfounded at Ebenadar wrestling a lion.
The spotted lion that just crawled out of the ship starts charging east, headed toward the edge of the ruins, and gets skewered by the spears near Karl. The lion’s body falls lifeless and bloody into the crevice.
From the north, Ezendra reappears and starts racing south, toward the platform. She appears to have a leg covered in some sort of black, tarry substance. "I've found the release mechanism, but I can't reach it! Trap nearly got me. We'll have to get it after we dispatch the kitties!" she shouts as she nears the platform.
The rear mast of the ship, at a sharp angle leaning north, is a blaze like a wickerman, and the center of the ship is smoldering. The rigging leading to the next mast is starting to burn, and the creak of the ship’s bulk at such a precarious angle is audible, even over the crowd.
Lieutenant Zayle shouts down from his perch, “Tolruk, you better give it another few seconds. We’ve still got incoming.”
As if on cue, Guttersnipe appears next to Ebanadar and stabs the lion in the face with a dagger, killing is. Ebenadar Is left with a dead lion in his lap. “Cheers!” Guttersnipe says to Ebe.
Round 8!
Still 2 days to post.

Jack's face screws up as he tries to puzzle out Tælok's words. "Wait... It's what? How...?" He mutters, looking from Tolruk to the waters and back again.
Shaking his head he gives up trying to figure it out and instead takes a step further onto the relative safety of the platform, pulling a vial out of his handy haversack and fiddling with it along with a crossbow volt.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Karl quickly sticks his wand in his belt and picks up his shortswords before setting up in a sprinter's stance, preparing to leap over the deadly spike trap.
I believe stowing my wand and picking up my shortswords takes both of my actions... so that's all I do.
| Crugonk "the Beaster" |
Roud 8, Initiative 16c
Crugonk looks around, seeing the flaming ship and the dead lions on the platform.
"Yeah, really a safe place that."
No sign of the Manticore nor of the lady that was supposed to lead them, "Chances are she sunk with the ship."
Then shouts for Jhock
"Jhock! Where's the F#@[]#g Manticore?"
Then moves to more open ground W8X9
Perception Check 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
| Jhock |
Jhock looks around, trying to see said manticore, his hands squeezing the shaft of his Scythe.
Perception:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
He yells back at Crugonk. "Don't see it!" He then waits, his eyes glaring at the flaming ship, as if it's giving off a wave of ill fate to come, perhaps.
Hold actions, waiting for any sight of the manticore.
