The Mystic healing gets more useful at higher levels. Also it isn't needed till later in a combat, or of you have to chain multiple encounters with out any rest. As someone who tends to play line/tank characters. I still like having a mystic in the party. But healing isn't needed till a few rounds in. IMO, a bored healer means we are doing thing right :) Also once you get to fourth you get "Lesser Restoration" and that is always useful. :)
