Yeah that's not to say a level 1 PC can't have a more elaborate backstory. I have an aasimar bloodrager who nearly died as a child, woke up on the banks of the River of Souls, and traded her shadow to a psychopomp before returning to the world of the living.
Oh yeah absolutely! This is a good example of one you can do. I think the better way of putting it is not whether or not you can have a big backstory at low level but that your backstory probably shouldn't have massive impressive accomplishments if you're a level 1 character. A lot of things can happen to you, but usually you're a bit more reactionary, if that makes sense.
Yeah I think a reroll is in order, but I think this is an omen that I shouldn't do it before the website goes down, I think I'm being punished for being impatient!
Definitely interested on this one! The premise seems cool! Dunno how you feel about having someone with little 1e experience, though. With the site coming down soon, I'll take time to read the player's guide and come up with a concept
I am of the firm belief that every character has a story. Even a child would have a few years worth of tale to tell. Obviously I won't have a character who was lovers with a goddess, or who fought in a war in the hells, or has served a vampire lord for over a hundred years, or fought off cultists to save an entire city...
Okay, went a little far throwing shade at that game. Even if I do enjoy it the origins are kind of silly.
Lol I wouldn't say it was too much. It's definitely true, the characters really didn't feel like level 1 adventurers. I always try to be minimal with my backstories, just what's necessary, (in this case, I simply gave my guy motivation in the form of a family to maintain) because whatever comes up organically is better than anything I could do, always!
Happy Halloween! And thank you so much for the help Crisischild. It means a lot! There's a lot and I don't know much so any help is always appreciated.
Oh yeah! In the topic of a sheet, I was toying around making one in herolab. Probably going human with point blank shoot and precise shot as I was told that these were mandatory to take if you wanna use a bow. Focus on dexterity and con and have all the 14s go to the other stats with 10 either being charisma or intelligence. I haven’t decided on traits, I don’t know what kind of stuff I should be taking…favorite enemy probably Dragons right? That seems fitting for this one
Born in Cassomir about forty years ago, Var never was one for city life. His parents’ love for travel really rubbed on him, growing up. And it was for this and no particular tragic event that he took to the road. It was a good life. One of self reliance with very minimal trips to towns to do the occasional restock of arrows or a new bow. And of course, there’s ale — can’t get that in the wilderness!
It was during one of these stops for ale and company that changed Var’s life forever. A few cute looks from a bargirl and that thirst and desire for companionship is all it took. He didn’t stay, of course, but next time he came back, he learned that he was a father.
He couldn’t raise his daughter, no way. Maybe in a different life. He wasn’t the right kind of man for that, but his conscience wouldn’t leave him alone…and so, every few months, he’d come to town with a sack of gold to Lana, the bargirl.
How he made his money depended on what was available— maybe he’d serve as a guide for people trying to cross a dangerous place, maybe he’d hunt and sell the pelt, and occasionally, he’d work as a courier.
It is the latter which brought him to Belhaim — an urgent missive for a local wizard from one organization or another — he didn’t care, really, never was one for magic.
(To up the personal stakes, maybe Lana and his daughter live in Belhaim?)
He has messy, brown hair and an unkempt beard he only shaves every few months. He has a few scars on his face from close brushes with death and is never seen without his bow.
Lot of responses! This seems pretty exciting! No way someone with practically zero experience with the system (a single Society scenario) as me would get chosen, but just in case! Would probably try like a grizzled ranger (thinking human or a half-elf perhaps) that occasionally works as a courier when the mood strikes (particularly if he can explore a place he hasn't been to as a result) and came to Belhaim to deliver a missive for the missing Mr Hunclay
Finally! I've been wanting subscriptions to go even for all subscribers for a while! Playing the roulette game of if your subscription will come early or super late was never fun at all
Question regarding Rogue. I saw someone (I think Shadow Dragon) mention that if I were to play a rogue again, I should do an "unchained" rogue, I'm not sure of the difference, but does this mean I have to buy the associated book, or does it effectively replace rogue as presented in the core book and is therefore considered a free option?
It's from the Pathfinder Unchained book. You can find it on Archives of Nethys.
But do I need to buy the Pathfinder Unchained book, or is this considered the same Rogue from the Core Rulebook for society purposes? (as in, don't have to buy the book)

And I know people get antsy to start a new game but let's let the new players take their time to find/make something they want to play.
Since Arita has one Chronicle for using Merisiel they can make a PC with some extra gold and the 2 PP to purchase a wand.
Thank you! I'll give them all a look, see what I end up wanting to do, might also just make a PC and just apply the boon to another one if it's like a race unlock (assuming you can't rebuild fully before level 2 like you can for 2e, I mean)
Sad to see there hasn't been an answer on this from Paizo still. I've been wanting to run Guilt of the Grave World for people in a PBP lodge on Discord but I don't really want to without the possibility of everyone earning a chronicle for their time. (Also hurts that there's no GM incentives right now, but hopefully they fix that as well)
It hilariously implies a HUGE quality drop from the standard the Society has from the Pathfinder days to the Starfinder days. Management just doesn’t care! Same with how the Starfinder Agent dedication gives you a lot less training than the Pathfinder one.
Back in the day, they’d teach my people like my kobold how to read and made sure to prepare her well for the problems she’d encounter in the field. Nowadays they give you a gun, some credits and go “good luck, Starfinder”!
@Arita and @Fiendy: If you post here (in character would be nice), it adds the Flaxseed Lodge to your campaigns tab. This is the place where PFS1e PBP is organized. It has a recruitment thread, where games are advertized.
Excellent! Will do so, after I make a new character around the boon I won, thank you. How often do games run more or less?
Come on, everyone, let's work together! It's a long ways away, but I believe in us getting that 1e scenario converted! I think, even if you don't have use for the board game itself, the minis are very nice, and you can just pledge 3$ to get them as add-ons!
Info: As we already have an arcane caster (a summoner) I'm currently thinking about playing my investigator with the Trapfinding class feature and a good Disable Device skill. But if you want to play a rogue, Arita, I can play my sorcerer, no problem! :-)
I thought about it some, if you don't mind, I think I'd like to play Merisiel!
So I've been informed that you can only do a character for PBP one at a time, this means I will need to swap characters or go for a pregen depending our level, sorry about that
This was my first gencon and it was a fantastic experience! While participating in the multi table special was a huge highlight of the trip, I think my favorite part was hands down the Strawberry Machine Cake. That might be the best cake I've ever had! I demand you guys sell more of it somehow! (Or at least point us to good alternatives that might be around the same quality)
I think this is fantastic compromise! While unique boons are cool, I understand the reluctance to have people have to go through APs to make those sheets. Let's reward people for playing APs and engaging with Society while also keeping the workload lower
I mostly think it's confusing. Murder on Metal City at the end suggests you continue your campaign after by doing SFS, but also if you swap to running SFS scenarios, none of the XP the characters get transfers at all, unless the advice is supposed to be to run society without running society, which I think it's a bit odd
I’m confused, if you don’t issue chronicle sheets for Starfinder adventures, do they not give any XP for society? Say, if you play Murder in Metal City, how much XP is that?
I like this! As someone who isn't subscribed to four lines, I like that I'm able to have something. And I'm also glad you're taking last 12 months into account, I think I'd easily hit that Legendary threshold!
