I was as well,
but I rigged my machine for Dual-booting so I can use windows for my window only programs, and use Linux for other things.

Pending on the version of Linux used, the User Interface could be very windows like with minor differences.
Though I'll admit it does have some hurdles that a windows user does not face,
but the upside is Linux is way more secure than windows, and it looks like more developers are taking note of Linux and developing for it.
That and almost all Malware can't run on Linux.
Malware can't make changes to the core without user Authorisation and the Admin Password..
Linux does not have MS Office, but it does have Open Office which is free and can open and write MS office files.
And if you want MS Office, badly you can use WINE to run MS Office.

And you can find help on installing and troubleshooting Linux on the internet/web.

Ubuntu is more user-friendly in my opinion.

Though I would like it better if they had a near exact interface of windows, but I can see why they ditched certain parts.

Blue screen of Death, I've not heard or seen that in years.

If the problem is the drivers, try doing a clean install of them.

Now it could also be from a form of Malware, in which case it's better to reformat the HD and re-install the OS.

If the hardware is failing it could be do to over-heating of the CPU or GPU, in which case you'll need a add-on cooler

A quick why to check if the memory is bad is download a copy of Ubuntu 13.04, burn it on a CD/DVD and reboot with the CD/DVD drive as first priority.
