True, but it might work well if you used armor as damage reduction rather than AC. I'd probably apply the armor check penalty as a penalty to dodge and / or parry. It would make the heavily armored character easier to hit, but they'd take less damage. Of course we're basically talking a whole new combat system now, but it sounds interesting! You're right about the rogues though. Perhaps dodging shouldn't be able to add strength, or parry not add dex to the CMD. I dunno - it's not a perfect solution there. Also, it might not be a good 'rogue vs fighter' scenario, but it would definitely open up some interesting possibilities for rangers or 'light' fighters like the cad or Lore Warden, for example.
Dotting for interest. I"ll go ahead and roll as well to see what I get. :) 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 2) = 9 7 - Dropped
Yuck... What is that, 8 point buy? lol
I have considered rolling K geography and local into one skill. Call it 'k geography and cultures' or 'K I stayed awake in social studies class'. You would use it for knowing the basic lay of the land, common customs and laws, common inhabitants, etc. This solves a lot of the 'there are too many skills' problem by combining the two, and also helps fight the (imo) absurdity of the country bumkin character picking up a rank of k local and being able to use his knowledge of his home farm to get insights into the intricacies of random cities across the globe.
Aliana chews her lip thoughtfully then shakes her head. "No, I do not think they are in immediate danger. They are close by, yes? I should think if they are in view and within the fort with us, they should be safe enough. ...and besides, she thought to herself,a wagon is not likely to provide safety against whatever happened back there...
Aliana arrives towards the end of Kams' speech, her bow in hand. With a quick glance at the situation she nods simply and turns to head back. "I will gather everyone to be ready upon your return." When she arrives back at the fort, Aliana speaks with Donal, Fulton, Porter, Oleg, and Kesten in turn, informing each of events and Kam's fear, saying, "We need to meet in council to discuss what course we should take to prepare. The others will return shortly. Have you a suitable place to talk Master Oleg?"
sense motive:
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Hemp;1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 Wink I would agree, Master Redcloak. Wink....doesnt seem, well together enough to have been much more than useful fodder. Not enough to excuse him perhaps, but I think he may be given the chance to live a more honest life. The other... he is harder to read, but perhaps the same can be said for him.
Aliana smiles and gives Tityana's arm a light pat before going back to finish up their task. "Well at any rate, I'm glad it and you are feeling better. Arrow wounds can be nasty." Later, at Warren's reflections, she asks"Speaking of the bandits, when do we intend to have the trial? As unpleasant as the task may or may not be, I don't think it one we should put off much longer. Who is to pronounce judgment? How will the trial be arranged?"
Aliana smiles knowingly as Tityana's color flushes rapidly to pink and to red. Traveling in such close company, it would be hard for her not to have noticed the way the other woman and the burly smith snuck glances at one another, or the time they've spent together. Aliana smoothly hides her smile behind scrubbing her cheek with the back of her hand, resisting for the moment the urge for a good-natured tease. Still, she can't resist a small jibe as she slices the peel off one potato. "So soon healed? That is wonderful! I think It helps the recovery process when one can be tended and watched over so attentively", she says with a bright, careless smile.
Aliana rises early, despite an inceasing desire to roll over and shut out the sun. Instead, she sits up, rubbing her eyes and yawning. I wonder what today shall bring us, she muses, sparing a guilty glance at the pack containg the journal book she has yet to begin. After splashing her face with cold water and brushing her hair, she makes her way to the kitchens. Seeing Tityanna and Svetlana busy at work, she grabs a knife and a potato, joining in. "Good morning. How did you two sleep?"
Aliana giggles softly at Porter's offer of a game and gives a roll of her shoulder. You may need to teach me the rules good sir, but I will attempt a round or two. She spends the evening laughing and swapping stories and small-talk with the settlers, the soldiers, and her companions. When watches are discussed, she offers to do her part in taking a watch over the prisoners.
Aliana slides a finger along the goosefeather fletching of her noched arrow as she helps prod the prisoners into the shed. It will serve well enough for the present. Have you any proper manacles we might borrow? Certain of these look willing to cause trouble yet if they could, and I would trust iron more than hemp.
Aliana continues to advance with Stephanus, pausing to fire off another arrow at the bandits stubbornly refusing to relinquish the ram. 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 4 = -11d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 If Stephanus'target does not fall, she will take aim at him. If he is down, she will fire at the other one. edit: or I could just shoot myself in the foot instead. lol
"So are we set upon servitude? How will we ensure that these bandits will remain pliant and not take the first opportunity presented to run, or worse to attack us from within? It is one thing to talk of servitude as punishment when we are established and have the means and resources to enact such, but right now we are but few, and we are spread out, and we travel through apparently hostile lands we know little to nothing of. The thought of adding parole officer to our list of duties does not sit well. It makes me uneasy."
Aliana stretches aching legs as she listens to her companions debate that evening. "Gods.. I wish we were there already. I won't be sorry to not have to sit a horse for awhile... "I can appreciate your reluctance to take up the mantle of leadership gentlemen, but I believe Tityana is correct. Order is neccessary for success in this endeavor, and order requires leadership and direction. Now whether we need lay out the order of government this night may or may not be needful, but I do think more order and cohesion would be helpful in ensuring we arrive at our destination. Twice now we have been ambushed. I think it wisdom to proceed as if expecting further attack on the road ahead. We should develop some sort of operations to deal with such occurances. Set watches, perhaps a whistle or horn, blown in code to warn of danger. Three blasts could be warning of attack and upon hearing, the caravan would automatically know to circle and arm themselves... She shrugs a bit, blushing. I am no strategist, but I believe that if our enemies are coordinated and we are not, we will fall.
Fiallain listens with some interest as the men exchange war stories and catch up. glances up, a bit relieved to see Alathea return so soon. She cocks her head to the side, noticing that she is alone. Seeing her return with pack in hand, she stands, spear in hand, then sits back as it seems departure isn't quite imminent just yet. Her eyebrows raise just slightly at her comment about judgement, but decides that now is probably not the time to ask. It has been some time since I ran out of my Oosquai, I suppose this wetlander milk will have to do for now. Grinning, she gets back up to help Jasper and Alathea gather the drinks.
Aliana turns at the sound of Alexi's shout, suddenly remembering the serpent. Seeing the hideous creature making its way towards the wagons, she quickly brings bow up and fires upon it. 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 101d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 81d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 111d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Aliana silently wonders if bare fists might not be more effective...
round 4 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 2 = 81d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 what is with these rolls? :P Aliana fires another arrow that flies wide. She snarls and moves forward, pulling another arrow from the quiver as she does. I think my string may be slack from all this wet. She moves in front of the wounded Tityana to help shield her while sighting for another shot.... actions: fire an arrow at BL, move up until she is 10 ft in front of Tityana and between her and the bandits.
Rnd 3: Hearing the shouts of warning from her companions, Aliana spares a glance away from the river. Moving forward so she can peek around the corner of the wagon, she follows the gaze of the others to spot the oncoming bandits. Seconds after Thad looses his arrow, she sends one of her own in swift pursuit, the feathered shaft speeding towards the bandit leader. She mutters angrily to herself as even as the arrow leaves the sting, sensing that the shot was off and would fly wide. That's twice today Aliana, take your time, focus! Actions: move to R18, fire one arrow at BL:
dm: that would depend largely on the ground and how firm it is. If it seemed solid enough to take the weight of her horse without crumbling, then I would say she got within 3-4 feet of the bank. She would have stopped sooner if the horse was having trouble with its footing, whether from slick ground, or giving way though.
perception:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Aliana frowns with some trepidation as she eyes the rickety bridge. Her gloved hand reaches down to pat her horse as it snorts contemptuously at the sound of rushing water. Struggling to control the antsy beast, she calls to those nearest her, voice rising over the sound of the torrent and the rain. "Is there not another way through? Another bridge farther up perhaps? I'm not sure this one can withstand both the river and the weight of our caravan." She blinks, motion at the corner of her eye making her turn to look at the river. that was odd... I could have sworn.. Pursing her lips, she eases the horse a little nearer the bank. Her eyes strain, searching the waters for she isn't sure what. Finally she shakes her head and turns back towards the others. As she does so, she notices something else as well. In a clear voice she addresses the others. "I do not think we can safely use this bridge." A finger points to where the water swirls around the dam. "Those trees, they've been cut, and with an axe if I don't miss my guess. I would not be surprised if the bridge may have been sabotaged as well." Her gaze meets those of the other charter-members. "I begin to think newcomers aren't welcome to the South."

sorry as well for the delay. It has been a busy few days. Aliana graces the dwarf with a beaming smile. "Why thank you, Master Deepsilver! Just the thing to start a day like this. You are very thoughtful. So how are you two taking to the journey thus far? We seem to be making decent time, all things considered."
